Merge
Accordign to the first line Air India is the same as Air India Air Transport Services. However, that article states that AIATSL is a subsidiary of Air India. Can someone verify which is correct. If they are the same it may make more sense to redirect Air India Air Transport Services to this article. --Deepak D'Souza (talk) 12:04, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Designer: Air India Logo
Hi,
Myself Arnab Roy, would like to inform you that I created the New Air India logo, which has been removed from Wikipedia. This same issue I brought in light couple of years back and after verifying my claim Wikipedia updated my name on their Air India Content page. It will be very kind of you to update the full information regarding the creation of the logo.
I request you to add the following information on your article.
Air India Logo Designer: Arnab Roy, Agency: DYW (DMA Yellow Works), Mumbai, India
In India its very hard to get any recognition as a graphic designer, but such recognition will encourage us to create more artistic awareness in our Country. I'd love to provide you any other information regarding the Logo if you need.
My Contact details are: Arnab Roy, DMA Yellow Works, 107 Sun Mill Compound, Lower Parel(W), Mumbai - 400 013, India.
email: arnab@dmayellowworks.com website: www.dmayellowworks.com
Thanking you.

Retired fleet
Shouldn't the Retired fleet subsection be removed? The fleet history of the airline is anyways covered in the article Air India fleet. Why so serious? Talk to me 16:31, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'd say it has to be removed. The Air India fleet article is pretty extensive anyway. TheMike •Wassup doc? 17:14, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
NACIL Dissolved. Now Air India
Air India is now the parent company of AI Express, AI Cargo, etc. NACIL was dissolved and is now Air India, meaning that AI Cargo, AI express and all subsidiaries now fall under Air India. Hence, the info relating to the subsidiaries must also be included on this page.
See This. Nikkul (talk) 21:42, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
- Air India Limited (formerly NACIL) is NOT AN AIRLINE but the holding company for AI, CD, IX and IC. Hence the AI and AI destinations article cannot include info about CD, IX and IC. —Abhishek Talk to me 01:36, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
Air India is the same as Air India Limited. Nikkul (talk) 04:39, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- Please see discussion under Air India destinations page. Air India should have AI, IC, IX and CD destinations and fleet info listed in its page esp. after the single IATA code merger on 27 Feb, 2011 [1]. Upcoming merger information and updates can go in to the AIL page, if required. Frankly, after the 27th I do not see a reason for the existence of the AIL page . See United Airlines, Continental Airlines and United Continental Holdings where each airlines in the holding company has its respective subsidiary information listed in its own page, pending the completion of the merger. (Please note: The "subsidiaries" excluded in the Continental fleet information fly under a different banner e.g. Continental Connection, etc.) I hope this stops the unnecessary reverts and edit wars. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.134.139.76 (talk) 20:01, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
Merging the pages on Air India and Indian
Starting from 27th February 2011 these two merged airlines are going to be effectively one entity with common code on all flights (AI).Hence we can say the merger is complete and makes more sense to put those pages together. What say? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Reachmugunth (talk • contribs) 01:12, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- It would make sense if we only merge their destinations and fleet. IC being a 58 year old airline has its own history and deserves a separate article despite the merger. —Abhishek Talk to me 01:38, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Please do not remove incidents that have been added. The section is accidents AND INCIDENTS. Incidents are relatively minor but important for safety nevertheless. LogicDictates (talk) 07:21, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Merge with Tata Airlines
Tata Airlines (or Air India International) was the pre-nationalisation avatar of Air India. Per this in 1953, Air India International was nationalised as a seperate entity and all other airlines were nationalised and merged into Indian Airlines. Therefore, I do not see a need for a separate Tata Airlines article, the two are the same. Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 08:30, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- Looks reasonable to me. The Tata Airlines article doesn't have much content and we can always undo the merge at a later date if more material appears. --rgpk (comment) 16:06, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
- I believe it's best to merge Tata Airlines into the history section of this article. —Abhishek Talk to me 16:28, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Move Air India fleet here
OK to move Air India fleet here like all other airline articles? Aviones de pasajeros (talk) 16:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- I like this way of interacting with others, rather than making unilateral decisions. Congratulations. Regarding the proposal, this article was started in July 2008 and has been edited since then without any claim. I don't see the need for merging it back into the parent article. Air India is regarded as one of the most important airlines in the world, and I think it deserves the priviledge of having a separate article for their fleet, just like Delta Air Lines. Of course, this is my view.--Jetstreamer Talk 17:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- After seeing how little was left of Air India fleet after I cleaned it up and removed unsourced claims I wanted to suggest the same inclusion of Air India fleet here. Delta Air Lines fleet has much sourced information - something that was not true for Air India fleet. Lumialover (talk) 23:33, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

- Yes, it should be merged. I see absolutely no need to have a separate article. Merging would definitely not overwhelm this page. —Compdude123 01:50, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
The article states that an Air India flight crashed during its course from Karachi to Bombay in 1947. If it is relevant, can someone please confirm the information and add it in the accidents section. Samar Talk 14:43, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
Move Criticism & Controversy to the end of the article
I propose we move criticism and controversy to the end after "Awards" section. In no article would we find the criticism part being writeen right at the top. Every organization has its share of criticism. I propose we even reduce the amount of words spent on the viral video by Captain Chabra, if not remove it altogether. American Airlines had a similar case where a flight attendant made a series of videos and ultimately he was sacked. But nowehere does it feature in the article. I have temporarily moved the criticism section at the bottom. Other views are welcome. Vistaindia (talk) 15:32, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Claims that AI is one of the largest airlines in Asia
@Vistaindia: claims from this edit that AI is one of the largest in Asia. Now first of all I would say that this is WP:OR. The edit itself references to the AI article and there is no claim. Even if there is a claim by AI, it cannot be added considering the source to be WP:PRIMARY and for this claim to be true, a reliable, third party source is required! — Abhishek Talk 13:14, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- @Abhishek191288: I understand the original research thing. What about this list: List of largest airlines in Asia. It seems to be sourced from the corresponding airline's websites. It's not a claim by AI, rather it's circumstantial evidence from statistical comparison. I would like to be convinced that the list is bullshit as well. Vistaindia (talk) 13:20, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- List of largest airlines in Asia isn't even updated. About the airline websites used as sources, that is merely done to get the actual fleet number. FYI, AI now has 97 aircraft (the article still states 113). Rather than a claim that it is one of the largest, it would be more logical to include where it stands. And yes, regarding the edit which I removed that was purely WP:OR. If you are nominating this for GA, you will be asked to remove such statements. — Abhishek Talk 13:24, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Take your point. AI fleet is 105 though, FYI (http://www.airindia.com/fleet-details.htm). I am correcting it in the article. Still a lot of work left before nominating it for GA, though. Thanks, Vistaindia (talk) 13:34, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Nope. The last 8 aircraft belong to CD (Air India Regional). So the total fleet of AI is 97. — Abhishek Talk 15:10, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Third worst safety
I have removed what looks like a WP:SYNTH. One source was dead and the other doesn't look reliable. The conclusion that AI has the third worst safety record is merely based on the number of people killed in accidents for the total number against the number of people that the airline has flown. This very ambiguous in the conclusion given the fact that most accidents of the airline involve a fault with the aircraft and hijack is also not a mistake of the airline. The conclusion should merely be based on the number of people killed in accidents where the airline happens to be at fault. — LeoFrank Talk 04:02, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
Is state ownership really a controversy
With most flag carrier airlines at least part in state ownership, this is hardly a controversy. The corruption mentioned is, but this section is misleading. Mtaylor848 (talk) 12:58, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

There has been a slow edit war concerning this. Air India destinations is not in sync with this page and mentions Visakhapatnam Airport along with others using the official website as ref. A quick check up turned up nothing for me, need help here.

Lead
The article's lead section needs to be done up. The lead needs to be of adequate length and having a good intro statement. This is part of the GA criteria 1b. 2015 death "sucked into jet engine"
Just how relevant is this? It did get international coverage, see BBC article. But the article also treats it like a usual negligence incident like the in-cockpit pilot brawl etc, so does WP:NOTNEWS apply here? Reverting for now. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 14:08, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Fleet images
These images, showing pictures all the way to 1958 are no doubt relevant here. I don't see how we can remove them stating that commons link is available like how we usually do for galleries. Airline articles usually have such image templates in their fleet para (Luftansa, United_Airlines). Ugog Nizdast (talk) 14:34, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- Gallery type displays like Lufthansa are frowned upon as commons is the place for image galleries, that said nothing wrong with placing relevant images through the article where they can illustrate the history and development. MilborneOne (talk) 16:17, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

I'm happy to see the article promoted to GA status. However, such articles cannot include sources with their reliability in doubt, and Planespotters is one of them. AI Scissor Hubs
Should scissor hubs be listed as focus cities or secondary hubs? Specifically, LHR and HKG are operated as scissor hubs. Additionally, would AMD be considered a focus city for AI, since they fly international routes to LHR/EWR from there? --Wallacevio (talk) 18:05, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
A true scissor hub has at least two destinations on each side. For example LHR would need more than just EWR on the west to qualify. Similarly, there would have to be a flight from HKG to another non-DEL Indian city. --Irehdna (talk) 18:12, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
Current Event Tag
Since the Government of India has commenced discussions with regards to the partial or even complete privatization of Air India to various parties including, other airlines, private equity companies, etc., and, since there is continuous about this, I am wondering whether we should place the 'Current Event' tag at the top of the page. This will be helpful in my opinion. Would love to hear the opinions/thoughts of y'all on this. Thanks! FlyingBlueDream (talk) 14:22, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

- If figures are to be changed, new references must be provided that back the new figures up. It is no good adding new figures but leaving the references in place that back up the original set of figures. Mjroots (talk) 20:12, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

- I have been asked to have a look at the last few edits to see whats going on here, clearly some adding facts not supported by the references has been going on. I have to say that User:82.32.116.24 was removing what they saw as vandalism and although they should have asked for help rather than keep reverting and edit warring. Main culprits appear to be User:Freightcar2 and User:Royard9 who appear to have added the wrong dates (or reverted to the wrong info). Note that [99] needs to be changed to 2017 per the quoted reference. I would keep the protection on and give User:Freightcar2 and User:Royard9 a chance to supply new references here for the dates they added. MilborneOne (talk) 20:55, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

Air India Express Flight 812 (Mangalore Crash)
Is there a reason that the Air India Express Flight 812 crash in Mangalore hasn't been discussed in the 'Accidents and incidents' section? --Norcaes (talk) 08:34, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- Probably because it is a different airline and it is included in the Air India Express page. MilborneOne (talk) 18:19, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
- I see. I was wondering if it might be appropriate to add a paragraph about the crash. Considering Air India Express is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India, it does have implications for its safety record -- also keeping in mind that the media does tend to conflate the two, e.g. in this Guardian article. --Norcaes (talk) 11:44, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Please update 94 destination in the main description
Hello
I see that 94 destinations of Air India is being mentioned in the template and down at the destination section. but it is mistakenly entered at 90 in the main description.
Could anyone please update it? Thanks in advance.

Change "In 2000–01, attempts were made to privatize Air India and from 2006 onwards, it suffered losses after its merger with Indian Airlines." to In 2000–01, attempts were made to privatize Air India and from 2006 onwards." only.
Reason: The next line is wrong as Air India Ltd was at a loss of Rs. 541 Crore and Indian Airlines was at a loss of around Rs. 231 crore. To say "it suffered losses after its merger with India Airlines" is factually wrong, when the actual position was Air India Ltd. was double the loss than Indian Airlines. Only reason both company suffered is because of bulk ordering of planes even though their books did not support such a purchase. Indian Airlines was market leader before merger in Domestic Sector.
