Sorry that such an exceptionally well-written article had to wait so long. Will review this. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 02:13, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
- Marking with for changes done.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 18:46, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 06:14, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- Please do not include citations in the lead. The facts in the lead must all be mentioned in the main text as well - the citations should thus go to the main text.
- Could we avoid the repetition of "urban agglomeration" in the first few lines?
- Any link for tier-II cities? What are they?
- I think it will be better to say "a major hub for textiles, industries, commerce, education, information technology, healthcare and manufacturing"
- Manchester of South India need not be in italics. Same for Coimbatore Wet Grinder and Kovai Cora Cotton
- to as "Pump City" "the" Pump City
- It would be good to use British English throughout the article (it should actually be Indian English for this article).
- " two thirds " hyphen
- The city is located on the banks of Noyyal river surrounded by the Western Ghats This can be merged in the first few lines of the lead to give a better look: "Located on the banks of the Noyyal river surrounded by the Western Ghats, it is the second largest city ..."
- In the 2nd para, duplinks are Tamil Nadu and Kongu Nadu; in the 3rd: Coimbatore district
- the historical Kongu Nadu Could we directly state here that this belonged to the Sangam era? When exactly was it?
- In the later part "latter"
- The city has been ranked 4th Should be "fourth", as per the MoS
- Could PM be expanded in the article?
Etymology
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 06:14, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- Coimbatore is a derivation of ...Instead of italics, put Coimbatore in double quotes.
- by Koyan evolved into --> by Koyan, evolved into
- after chieftain Kovan or Koyan Italics are not needed here
- Another theory states that...Kovaiamma and later Koniamma. Is Koniamma the same as Koniamman? If yes, use any one spelling. The lines should be swapped.
History
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 06:16, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- during Sangam period Could you add when exactly was it, in which century CE?
- Tamil epic Silappathikaram Tamil could be linked to Tamil language
- "Coimbatore was the capital city of the historical Kongu Nadu" Where is this included? (Modified it to say "part of"Magentic Manifestations (talk) 19:40, 3 March 2016 (UTC))
- Madurai Nayaks who were --> The Madurai Nayaks, who were; the Vijaynagara Empire took --> the Vijaynagara Empire, took
- The Nayaks introduced --> They introduced
- Kongu nadu Is it "Kongu nadu" or "Kongu Nadu"? Be consistent with this throughout the article.
- In the later part "Latter"
- Poligar War (1801) when it was --> Poligar War (1801), when it was
- an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 --> an earthquake of magnitude 6.0
- and an acute water "An" is not needed
- The region played a significant role in the Indian independence movement. Any more elaboration on this?
- Coimbatore was constituted as a corporation Could not understand this. (Modified to say Municipal corporation.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 19:40, 3 March 2016 (UTC))
- So that the "the city..." structure not be repeated, the line The city experienced an economical boom...Mumbai can be reworded as The decline of the cotton industry in Mumbai fueled an economical boom in Coimbatore in the 1920s and 1930s.
Geography
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 07:17, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Should it be "South India" or "south India"?- "south-western Tamil Nadu" is a duplink. Hyphen not needed
- Can the facts related to the Noyyal river be put in the same place?
- two distinctive regions I think we should say "geographical" regions; else it could also mean political or economical.
- Tamil Nadu lies to the west --> Tamil Nadu, lies to the west
- Because of its location in biodiversity hotspot of the Western Ghats Are the Ghats a biodiversity hotspot? Or is the city in a hotspot located in the Ghats? There should be a "the" before "biodiversity".
- birds of which, 66 are --> birds, of which 66 are
Link black (black soil), cotton and red loamy soil
Remaining issues:
- having experienced a 6.0 Richter scale earthquake in 1900.
"a" should be "the"; we are talking of this the second time. "Richter scale" is a duplink. Also, should the part on the earthquake be completely shifted to "Geography"?
- Moved it to geography completely as same source and repetition.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 07:00, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Climate
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 06:14, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- Duplink: retreating monsoon
wet season being from October to December I think it should be "lasting"
- @Sainsf: I changed it unless the main contributor objects it. Ssbbplayer (talk) 20:52, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- Coimbatore is located at an elevation of about 411 m (1,348 ft) Mentioned for the second time in the main text. Also, is it 1348 or 1349 ft (in the earlier section)?
- The mean maximum and minimum temperatures varies between 35 °C (95 °F) and 18 °C (64 °F) Does this mean that the average min. and max. temperatures can be anything between 35 and 18 degrees centigrade? Then it should be "vary", else the meaning is unclear.
- The highest temperature ever recorded is 40.3 °C (105 °F) while the lowest is 11.7 °C (53 °F) When were these recorded?
- @Sainsf: Though I did add in the records previously in this article. I did pointed that the highest temperatures was 40.4. I added in the dates for the record high and low. I may help a bit on the climate section as a back up. Good luck with the rest of the review as I am not the major contributor to this article. Ssbbplayer (talk) 20:52, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- Ssbbplayer Thanks for your offer. You are free to improve any part of the article; just keep us informed about what you have altered. Good luck ! Sainsf <^>Talk all words 02:21, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

- Due to the presence of the mountain pass... from June to August. Are we talking of the city or the district? Hyphen not needed in south-west.
- the North East and the South West monsoons This varies from how you writ these terms in the article.
Demographics
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 06:42, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- No hyphen in "sex-ratio"
- constituting 52,275 males --> comprising 52,275 males
- I do not think we need to link census when we have already discussed a lot related to it in the earlier para. Rather link "2001 census"
- The population of the urban agglomeration...females 49.92%. Combine the two sentences
- within Municipal Corporation "the"
- 8.9% of the population under 6 years of age "6" in words
- The Sex ratio was 964 females per 1000 males Caps in "Sex ratio"?
- Municipal Corporation Does "C" need caps?
- According to the religious census of 2011, Coimbatore had 83.3% Hindus, 8.6% Muslims, 7.5% Christians and 0.6% others This can be removed from the section as it is already mentioned in the "Religion" section afterward, and is more suitable there.
Administration and politics
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 06:43, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- No source for the Mayor parameter in the table to the right?
- Duplinks: Coimbatore district, municipality, Chettipalayam, Sulur, Singanallur, Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency, AIADMK
Economy
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 07:17, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- Link "Special Economic Zone" or explain it. Link Limca Book of Records and e-commerce
- Duplinks: Robert Stanes, CODISSIA, TIDEL park

Culture
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 07:20, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
"Tamil" should not be linked if you have already linked it in "History" as I requested.- a dialect is --> a dialect, is
- who are engaged in trade and commerce Source?
- The city conducts its own music festival every year. Repeated later on. Better remove the first mention and keep the other

- South India is again a duplink. Why is "S" in caps?
Who is Rangaswamy Naidu ?
Remaining issues:
- Sree Annapoorna Gowrishankar Hotels are known for its unique taste of Sambar. This appears a bit problematic. Are these the only hotels to have achieved such a feat? The idea of taste often depends on the individual. This may even look like original research.
- The Sambar tastes unique from the chain of hotels which are present only in the city. Refers to the article. Let me know if it can be re-worded.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 20:52, 3 March 2016 (UTC))
- A quiz is not appropriate enough to be used as a source. I think this should be removed. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 06:49, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- Removed the line as it was ambiguous.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 07:01, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Transport
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 17:28, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
The Prime Minister of India declared the government's intention You should mention the then PM by name.- Coimbatore Airport "the"
- and the Union Cabinet granted it the status of international airport on 2 October 2012 Can be better worded as "it was granted the status by the Union Cabinet on 2 October 2012"
- " 18th largest" and " 13th largest" go to the same page, and both are duplinks.
- the CMC group is expected comma. What is the CMC group?

Duplinks (Road): Madukkarai, State Highways Department, Peelamedu, Ukkadam, Gandhipuram, Singanallur, Ukkadam, Government of India
Remaining issues:
- Please care about "the" and commas. They need to be used in several places. If you are not able to fix this yourself then wait for me, I am a bit busy just now. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 07:19, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 17:33, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Duplinks: G.D. Naidu, Indian Air Force, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Government of India, SSLC exams- "Examinations" is more proper than "exams"
- The first college opened in Coimbatore was the Government Arts College in 1875 --> The first college of Coimbatore, the Government Arts College, was opened in 1875
- The forest college and research institute was opened in 1916 Caps?
- Rephrase the third line as: "The first engineering college in the city, the Arthur Hope College of Technology (now known as the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore), was started by G.D. Naidu in 1945."
- for teaching appears redundant
The literacy rate in the city is 80% As of when? Will this not have been repeated from the discussion in "Demographics"?
Remaining issues:
- The 1st para of this section appears a bit listlike and uninteresting. Please rewrite it in a better way.
- Re-arranged lines.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 16:11, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

References
[edit]Done Sainsf <^>Talk all words 17:37, 4 March 2016 (UTC) I have pointed out the inappropriate or improperly written references here. Work carefully and patiently. If refs are to be removed then do so at last else the ref. numbering done here for your convenience will be of no use.
- Ref. 6 (Docstoc) is a deadlink. Same for 121 ( "Indian Muslim Population Data"), 143 (Coimbatoresite.com)
- Ref. 9 ("Coimbatore: turning modern, yet retaining its old charm") should say "The Hindu" not "Hindu.com"
- Mention the reporters/writers for newspaper articles. Many citations do not mention them. You must consistently use Template:Citenews for all newspaper articles (for instance in ref. 73, "India – Most Competitive Cities" and 98 "Tamil Nadu Poultry Industry Seeks Export Concessions")
- Ref. 10 ("The Village Gods of South India") is a book and must properly use the parameters of Template:Citebook. We need the ISBN also. Same for all books (eg. ref. 43 (Imperial Gazetter of India, Volume 10) ) (added wherever available. Else url added.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 14:27, 4 March 2016 (UTC))
- Too many colons in ref. 44 ("Site Suitability Analysis using GIS for Coimbatore City")
- Ref. 47 ("Tamil Nādu (India): State, Major Cities, Towns & Agglomerations - Statistics & Maps on City Population") may not be reliable. Can govt. sources be used?
- Ref. 53 onward ("Rs. 76 crore deficit budget for Coimbatore Corporation") in some citations "The Hindu" lacks italics
- Ref. 61 ("Directorate of Town Panchayats"), 65 ("Assembly Elections May 2011 Results"), 74 ("About Intec Expo") need to fill the proper parameters of Template:Citeweb. I can not mention all, please do this for all the websites cited
- Ref. 67 ("Nicknames of places in India") is totally inappropriate.
- Ref. 77 ( China to face power crisis this winter ) may be inappropriate. Same for 84 ( Tamilnadu.com ), 92 ("India's gold & diamond exports fall by 20%"), 102 ("Hilton Garden Inn"), 103 ("Taj Surya, Coimbatore"), 136 ( nithyasnalabagam.com ), 141 and 142 (destinationinfinity.org), 144 ("Tourist Spots in Coimbatore - Museums/Art Gallery"), 145 ("Flights, Coimbatore Airport"), 155 "IAF units at Sulur", 185 ( Hellotaxitrip.co.in)
- Ref. 81 "City of future" is actually published by Financial Chronicle, don't say mydigitalfc.com
- Ref. 110 (Dinamalar) is inappropriately formatted with no proper link to the article. Needs to mention the language as well.
- Ref. 120 needs no URL if ISBN is there. Formatting needed as per Citebook template
- Ref. 125 does not go really anywhere ("Temples of Coimbatore")
- Ref. 135 looks inappropriate and rather commercial (Lonely Planet)
- Ref. 194, 195, 196, 207, 226 are not appropriate.
Magentic Manifestations Before a thorough check I would like to know what you are doing for inappropriate sources. Are you replacing them with better ones or are you deleting the text left unsourced after this? Don't allow ill-sourced or unsourced info to stay. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 11:26, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi! I am replacing inappropriate sources with alternate ones where there are no other sources available. If no alternate sources are available and other sources are already quoted for the statement, I am deleting them.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 13:43, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- Magentic Manifestations Good! I believe you are a responsible editor and I can entrust you with the job of using the special "Cite templates" throughout. It is highly important to do this. I have now completed the list of problematic refs. Sainsf <^>Talk all words 14:19, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
- Cool! I am going through every source to include missing information. Will update once done.Magentic Manifestations (talk) 14:47, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
Alright. I believe all issues at the GA level have been addressed. The article is well-written, prose errors have been discussed and repaired carefully, sources have been checked and images are great. The article meets the GA criteria. I promote this. Cheers!
