can we really say the n-gage was dominant?

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap's Japanese release should be in the notable release list

Removal of Individual Famitsu Source

[edit]

In response to JCW, who posted the non-excuse for keeping the Famitsu section citing PrincessKaori94, stating "Famitsu is a highly popular Japanese gaming magazine, not an obscure review site. What criteria should we use to determine whether a gaming magazine isn't? Do only American magazine reviews count?" - First off, Famitsu is already included in Metacritic review metrics, as are all other reputable review sites from all over the world. It's a strawman argument. Secondly, it being a highly popular Japanese gaming magazine is entirely irrelevant. Game Informer is a highly popular American gaming magazine. Should we include a chart detailing its awards and tribulations for the year? The metacritic/gamerankings section is impartial and does not focus specifically on one niche community. If editors are dead-set on keeping it here, then I propose we add other sources as well, similar to how there are other regional sources given for sales in the other sections. LuckyLopp (talk) 02:25, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding other regional sources would be a wonderful idea. The reason we have regional differences in the other sections is because not every region is the same. No region gets all of the same games, so there will always be differences between them. That's why I wanted to keep Famitsu in the first place; Metacritic and GameRankings represent the North American and European regions. Whilst Metacritic has used Weekly Famitsu in some of its ratings, it rarely ever does so, especially prior to 2003. Famitsu was not once mentioned in any of Metacritic ratings for the games that were awarded being in the Platinum Hall of Fame in 2001 despite many them being well-known titles released outside of Japan.
If Famitsu wasn't even included in the rating of games such as Final Fantasy X, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 among others, I'm not going to assume it was used of most of the games on their lists in the articles. GameRankings only used US/UK-based sites and magazines based on looking up their ratings via archive.org. At least with Famitsu in the article, all three major regions are represented without question rather than just one or two and hoping that the third is mentioned in a few of the ratings.
