The Société Générale du Cinéma et de la Musique (SGCM Guinea) is a Guinean company, founded in 2017, that specializes in film and music production, promotion, training, and distribution. SGCM has become a significant contributor to Guinea’s audiovisual industry, producing a range of films, music videos, and organizing cultural events.

History

SGCM was founded in 2017 to meet the increasing demand for quality audiovisual content in Guinea and to promote Guinean culture through media. Since its establishment, the company has supported numerous artists and filmmakers, helping them gain recognition both nationally and internationally.[1] The company's founder, Abdoulaye Traoré[2] a.k.a WAD, has played a key role in its development and in fostering the talents of emerging Guinean filmmakers and musicians.[3]

In 2023, the international committee of the FIFE (Festival International du Film Espoir) added Guinea to the list of countries that will now host the festival. Abdoulaye Traoré, appointed as the festival delegate for Guinea,[4] oversees the event under the auspices of the Société Générale du Cinéma et de la Musique (SGCM).

SGCM Partnerships and Collaborations

In 2023, SGCM entered into a partnership with the Office National du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel de Guinée (ONACIG) to co-organize the Festival International du Film Espoir (FIFE) in Guinea. This collaboration was formalized to promote Guinean cinema internationally and to provide training and networking opportunities for local filmmakers.[8]

The 2023 edition of FIFE, held in Guinea, focused on the theme "Women and Peace in the World," and included screenings of documentaries, short films, and training workshops to enhance the skills of local filmmakers. Contributions

Since its founding, SGCM has played a significant role in the growth of the Guinean audiovisual industry by supporting local artists and filmmakers. Through its work, SGCM has helped bring Guinean culture to international audiences and has contributed to the recognition of Guinean cinema and music.[7]
