Ionization methods assignment

[edit]

You can find ionization methods in the ion source page, Category:Ion source or at Mass Spectrometry Terms (note that the last site is MediaWiki but not Wikipedia).

Assignment 1

[edit]

Wikipedia Assignment 1 is

  1. Create an account and join this course page.
  2. Complete the introductory training modules. During this training, you will make edits in a sandbox and learn the basic rules of Wikipedia.
  3. Create a User page.
  4. To practice editing and communicating on Wikipedia, introduce yourself on the user talk page of one of your classmates, who should also be enrolled in the table at the bottom of the page.
  5. Explore topics related to your topic area to get a feel for how Wikipedia is organized. What areas seem to be missing? As you explore, make a mental note of articles that seem like good candidates for improvement.

Assignment 1 Completion List

Assignment 2

[edit]

Wikipedia Assignment 2 is

  1. Add 1–2 sentences of new information, backed up with a citation to an appropriate source, to a Wikipedia article related to the class.
  2. Research and list 3–5 articles on your Wikipedia user (talk) page that you will consider working on as your main project. Look at the talk page for existing topics for a sense of who else is working on it and what they're doing. Describe your choices to your instructor for feedback.

Potential Articles for Development (Assignment 2)

Potential Articles for Development (Assignment 2)

[edit]

Topic #1: Addition of a section to Gas chromatography mass spectrometry To this article I would be interested in adding a section on the 5-port valve cryotrap method. This is similar to the purge and trap section but I is a little different. I don't think this would be enough to move the article up two sections, which is my only problem. https://oup.silverchair-cdn.com/oup/backfile/Content_public/Journal/chromsci/40/5/10.1093/chromsci/40.5.276/2/40-5-276.pdf?Expires=1486696369&Signature=TV92MFrWS1s5WTpxWGc~P5bXR~il1z~1v5Zeha~eSxdHyMiRRnxOlWRixtOBZ2v-MO1rDza8w6eEO2vXxqkfFRqzpK9Ul4exF2zoS9EqjQ5mlnJCTAoXYAvvVXL7LB8sKmflJmHkMYjSOreBPaQXoVQ8zzN3vPjhFOeF4T1jKdlr-VJlsLJCI8rGsBj4VyLSwbSYxW9jD7OQO~KdtgnoXKd7dSOFkzlNBTLN5tzMpsNdOJLGzSDDuQcXHapHfD3VeQ4BIUzpC2IbByoGrpSTAr~nU2zZVNoJsK0~arwBpjUytdKsAwfxUiDl9WdzJOjgNBeFK1T9w7tq7o2e3dk6PQ__&Key-Pair-Id=APKAIUCZBIA4LVPAVW3Q

Topic #2: Desorption atmospheric pressure photoionization This article is listed as a start, but can be vastly improved with more instrumentation and schematics, as well as, some application and limitations sections. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/mas.21477/abstract

Topic #3: Orbitrap This article says it is a start, but it seems like it could be a "C" article. I will have to check the checklist and see if it meets the criteria. It also seems like it would be hard to find enough information to completely cover this topic. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/ac4001223

Topic #4: Atmospheric-pressure laser ionization This article is listed as a low level stub article that has multiple errors that can definitely be fixed. This page needs more diagrams and better organization of the sections. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/articles/15645511/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael.p.hayes (talkcontribs) 03:29, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Topic #5: Isobaric Labels This article seems like a stub article that definitely could use some work. There could be an addition of a few more sections. The only issue I see if finding good reviews on the article. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/pr500880b — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michael.p.hayes (talkcontribs) 03:52, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edit on Wikipedia page (Assignment 2)

[edit]

I made a minor edit to the Wikipedia article on Isobaric labeling. The addition of common isobaric labels was made to the introduction section (with a reference). I thought is was suppose to be a review, but after I read the reference, it seemed like a paper, labeled as a review. Addition topic edits can be made on functional groups and other labeling types.

Hey Everyone

I found this link and it is an ambient ionization review article. It provides the dates of discovery and references for newer techniques (after 2000). Mine was pretty hard to find until I saw this, so I wanted to post the link for ya'll!
