Multiple user boxes stretch across the screen, causing display issues

Wbm1058 As I mentioned at Talk:Tesla Model S, the same display issues with the userboxes even in Gonnym's user page. And in the user page, it is not just on the iPad. Even the desktop is showing a gray background on the right. I request you to now read Wikipedia:Userboxes to help decide what is best in these situations. Neel.arunabh (talk) 00:59, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

That user has chosen to put their user boxes in a table. I'm not aware of any userbox regulations specifying how they may or may not be arranged on a user's page. Ultimately the behavior you are complaining about is how wide tables are handled. This behavior should be the same regardless of whether the tables contain user boxes or not. See Help:Table for details of table syntax and functionality. Your issue is with a specific type of table, i.e. wide tables. To make any substantive changes in the handing of wide tables, MediaWiki developers will likely need to implement changes or enhancements. See HERE I searched Phabricator for "wide tables", you may look through these issue reports to find ones that are relevant to your concerns. For example, Improving how tables display in iOS appwbm1058 (talk) 01:21, 1 November 2021 (UTC)

Oh, I see. In your example on this page, you did not place them in a table. – wbm1058 (talk) 15:35, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
But if you don't put them in a table, you don't duplicate the problem. If I reduce the width of my window to make it really narrow, the userboxes automatically stack into a single column; they don't stay in a single row because I haven't forced them to do that by putting them in a table. – wbm1058 (talk) 15:40, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
Your 6 boxes work fine. I find that too for small numbers, but you have rather more boxes, it does not work. Look at my page and you will see the collections of only a few boxes are fine, but more I had to leave them as blocks of three. --Bduke (talk) 03:55, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Userbox question

Is it allowable to have a straight pride flag, on one's userpage? GoodDay (talk) 04:02, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Hmm that is a good question. WP:UBCR says Userboxes must not be inflammatory or substantially divisive. The article Straight pride and especially Straight_pride#High_school_shirt_incidents seems to indicate that straight pride in general has been interpreted as a hate group in a similar vein to white supremacy, but as indicated at Straight_pride#Balancing_freedom_of_expression_vs._protection_of_students some balance or at least context may be needed. - Ahunt (talk) 12:31, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
Dead thread but I’d personally recommend sidestepping the issue and just putting a Straight ally box on your page. Dronebogus (talk) 00:05, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

What is the etiquette regarding fixing links on userboxes, especially disambiguation links and links to sections? I'm looking through car userboxes right now and many of the sections have been renamed or reorganized since the userboxes were created. Which admittedly in some cases is ten years or more ago. I've been dumping a bunch of userboxes on one of my subpages and seeing if any of the links needed completing, and (in boredom) creating my own or replicating existing ones so that I can understand syntax. Bobo. 22:38, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

You can correct links like that in other people's userboxes, just leave a clear edit summary as to why the change was made. - Ahunt (talk) 01:50, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. I didn't want to look like I was being inappropriate by editing others' userboxes. Bobo. 02:16, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

New Parkinson's userbox which needs tweaking

I've created User:Doug Weller/Userbox/Parkinson's with help from User:Ahecht who created the ribbon. I think the formatting needs tweaking but it's a bit beyond me. And should I put this somewhere? Thanks. Doug Weller talk 14:00, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

It looks okay to me. What do you think needs adjusting on it? I have added it to the page at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Health#General so other people will see it. - Ahunt (talk) 14:31, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
@Ahunt: thanks for adding it. I guess it's ok then! Doug Weller talk 17:21, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
I don't see any obvious issues, but if you need any help let me know! - Ahunt (talk) 23:27, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

Are you allowed to post userboxes you make on the gallery as soon as you make them, or is there some sort of approval process you need to follow first? Urban Versis 32 (talk) 23:58, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

I don’t know, but I say just Wikipedia:Ignore all rules. I’ve put some of mine in there and nobody’s objected. Dronebogus (talk) 00:00, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks. Urban Versis 32 (talk) 00:04, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Category for Userbox

I was trying to find a category (In the userbox galleries) for the following userbox but couldn't decide where to put it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where this userbox should be placed in the galleries?

This user is interested in futuristic weapons such as Railguns

Urban Versis 32 (talk) 00:22, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

I’d recommend Wikipedia:Userboxes/Interests/05#Weapons Dronebogus (talk) 00:35, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Or Wikipedia:Userboxes/Military#Other or both! - Ahunt (talk) 00:36, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
I considered that one, but weapons seems more accurate Dronebogus (talk) 00:37, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Cross-referencing is fine - boxes can be in more than one place, so that it makes it easier to others to find them, but your call. - Ahunt (talk) 00:40, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks Urban Versis 32 (talk) 00:43, 28 March 2022 (UTC)

Lily's pads (talk) 18:58, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

Was there a question? - Ahunt (talk) 19:03, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
@Lily's pads: Hi! The way to use a userbox is to put it on your own user page, not on the userbox page's talk page! Many people also make sure they're on the specific Wikiproject's participant list. - Purplewowies (talk) 18:41, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

Is there a userbox template with scrolling?

Something like {{userboxtop}}/{{userboxbottom}}, except it allows scrolling so to prevent the userpage from getting too large. —Mythdon (talkcontribs) 14:59, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

There is a means of collapsing them to hide them. - Ahunt (talk) 15:07, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
I recall someone having a userpage where there was a scrollbar in the userbox section of their userpage. —Mythdon (talkcontribs) 15:08, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
@Mythdon: you can use <div style="width:248px;overflow:scroll;height:50%;">...</div>. Width is to force userboxes into one column (exactly what {{userboxtop}} does); overflow:scroll is what enables the scrolling; adjust the height to your liking in any of the CSS units. Demonstration:

Hope this helps. —andrybak (talk) 20:38, 17 September 2022 (UTC)

History of the userbox

Hi everyone, I'm doing a Signpost article on userboxes (User:Urban_Versis_32/sandbox/Signpost/1). I need some help with the History of the userbox segment, so if anyone is familiar on userboxes, information would be greatly appreciated (Please reply below). Also, I'm open to accuracy-checking on the article if anyone wants to do so (It's nice to have a fresh eye sometimes). Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 18:27, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
