Question about this Project

I noticed that this project is undergoing a restructuring and by a strange coincidence I am also restructuring and resurrecting WikiProject United States. There are currently dozens of Wikiprojects related to the United States (most of which are Inactive or maintain minimal activity) and I was going to create an arts and Entertainment subproject or task force (I hadnt really worked out the details yet) . I was wondering if you would consider restructuring as a subproject or Task force under that Wikiproject. This will allow maximum participation and visibility for both projects while minimizing overhead by sharing things like templates, membership and to do lists. There's no requirement too mind you its just a suggestion since I am going to create an entertainment related something (Aside from television theres also novels, authors, music, etc) anyway. There are also a lot of Wikiprojects that relate to this one that I believe could/should be covered by this project. See the Embassy page and the Arts and Entertainment section for the list I have so far but a lot of them are Inactive and I believe should consolidated somewhere. Please let me know what you think either way.--Kumioko (talk) 03:47, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next

Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.

The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Please let leave a comment on the Portals talk page or let me know if you have any questions or ideas. --Kumioko (talk) 19:03, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Some questions about the scope of the project

I was hoping I could get some clarification from the scope of the project. It seems clear enough that channels, titles of series and episodes would be covered under this project but here are a couple things that are not so clear and I think need to be discussed. Does the project or should the project cover:

Merger of this project into WikiProject Television as a task force

It has been suggested that WikiProject American television be merged into WikiProject Television as a task force since the project might be inactive or semi-active. After reviewing this project that it appears that there have not been any active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. If you have questions or comments, please let us know. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 08:29, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

I have to admit I am a little confused. On one hand you add several projects to WPUS and then you ask to merge this one into Television when its already associated to WPUS. I am fine with it don't get me wrong but I am a little confused. Perhaps sharing it would be appropriate? --Kumioko (talk) 03:57, 22 November 2011 (UTC)
Just to clarify were not removing or disbanding WikiProject American television. Just adding and converting into a joint task force since I've created the project myself one year ago. There are only 5 members (there were 6 since I've left). It is not very active. The only change is adding it to the WikiProject Television project banner template and you can see and looks here with others such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Realtly television, Glee and Dexter. This would allow the project to be visible of mach large editors as well as take advantage by various bots. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 04:55, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Its no problem, I was just confused. So your saying it will be associated to both projects? --Kumioko (talk) 14:43, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, just like American cinema and United States military history task force. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 20:56, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Quality reassessment request

I'm sure this is probably the wrong place, but this is the first time I'm making a request like this, so I'm not sure exactly where I should put it. I recently noticed that The Mickey Mouse Club article was rated as "B-class" roughly five years ago and doesn't appear to me to meet "B-class" criteria in any way, shape or form, so I was hoping someone here could take a look at the page and reassess it properly. I left a message about this a couple of weeks ago and got no replies. My concerns I expressed on the article's talk page are as follows:

I should be clear that I'm not necessarily suggesting that any content within the article should be removed, but rather, that the article should be reassesed. Given the article's lack of citations to reliable sources, I believe a "B-class" assessment for the page defeats the whole purpose of having a rating system in the first place (I honestly can't see any way that it should rate higher than "Start-class"). --- Crakkerjakk (talk) 19:44, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

April Newsletter for WikiProject United States

The WikiProject United States Newsletter
April 2011

Scope and Mission of WikiProject United States

Welcome to WikiProject United States on the English Wikipedia! We are a project dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the United States, with an emphasis on subjects with regional and national significance. This project was formed to coordinate the development of United States related articles and help maintain the United States Portal. Some project goals are to help list and categorize United States related articles, develop quality standards for articles and build templates that help users browse the articles that fall under this project. This project also provides a place for Wikipedians to share information and resources regarding improvements to United States related articles. Here, editors can ask for help with certain articles and bring otherwise overlooked articles and problems, to the attention of other editors. For more information of the role of WikiProjects, check out WikiProject guidelines.

WikiProject United States assessment table

Current statistics

Project news

Since the last newsletter was sent there have been a number of significant discussions and events that pertained to the project and United States related articles in general.

  • WikiProject American television has joined the family of WikiProjects that have agreed to share {{WikiProject United States}}. This project was started to improve Wikipedia's coverage of American television and the articles relating to that topic. If you are interested the project could use your help.
  • There is an active discussion on the talk pages of WikiProject United States and WikiProject Government about the inactive project WikiProject United States Government being added to the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States.
  • With the recent release of the 2010 US Census there have been multiple active conversations about how to update all the articles affected. If you have any ideas or want to help in this effort please leave your comments on the WikiProject United States talk page.
  • The tagging of articles continues and we have added several thousand articles to the count since the last newsletter.
  • We still have approximately 1300 articles in the project that need to be assessed so any help you can provide with assessments is greatly appreciated. Even 1 or 2 a day would be a big help.
  • A bot request was submitted to tag the remaining 500 pages of Portal United States with the United States banner. The project already has over 1700 of the portal pages tagged so this would be just to finish off the remaining ones.
Portal
Thanks to RichardF and a few others the United States portal is getting ever closer to achieving Featured portal status. The portal needs your help in filling in the Anniversaries (formerly known as On this day). Any help you can provide to help fill these dates in would be greatly appreciated. If you have any ideas or comments about the portal please feel free to leave them here.
Collaboration
The collaboration for April 2011 is Chesapeake Bay

The monthly collaboration is now in its third month since reactivation. The first article Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was improved significantly in February, as was George Washington (the second one) in March. Although the latter article was not nominated for GA, enough work was done for contributors to identify remaining content areas needing improving before an attempt is made, which is great progress. Thus anyone keen on reading up on Washington's role in the American Revolution and the presidency is most welcome to review and contribute. Magicpiano (talk · contribs) is planning on buffing material for the American Revolution segment by focussing on the daughter article, George Washington in the American Revolution first. Anyway, Chesapeake Bay is the new collaboration picked for April and anyone is welcome to work on it.

For choosing new candidate articles for May and beyond, editors should think about articles which have a range of issues that a variety of editors can help with, from content (primary school to university level research) to copyediting. Having a look over current and past ideas (which can be seen here and here (even older ones). So folks have a think about which articles are in most in need of fixing, or alternately, have a clear pathway to GA or FA status.
Things you can help with
  • Ideas for next months newsletter
  • Help with the Anniversaries in the portal
  • Help with the assessments
  • Help with the Collaboration
  • Comments in active discussions

Got a suggestion? A correction? Something you'd like to see included in a future issue? Drop a note at the Tip Line with your ideas!

Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template

Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. Kumioko (talk) 18:17, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Lest there is any confusion for people who don't speak the same language, the words "logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories" refer to the feature that was supposed to allow this WikiProject's template to "inherit" class and importance ratings from other WikiProjects. Kumioko says that there are no longer any bots performing the function that formerly copied those ratings. --Orlady (talk) 22:55, 31 August 2013 (UTC)

Stop the insanity!

I've run into this repeatedly, & I continue to think it's lunatic, so... Many (all?) of the network schedule pages (like this one) have ratings positions ranked. The trouble is, ties are treated as if they're not tied, & (on this page, at least), entire rank positions have disappeared. (There's no 13th I can find.) By what lunatic definition does a tie for 2d make the next rank 4th? (In a list of results, 1+1, 2+2, 3+1, & 2+3, there are three different results, not four, & that's what tied means: equal.) And don't tell me "That's how PGA does it", because PGA does not get to dictate how anything is done outside the PGA. (The fact their system is designed by innumerate nitwits is their problem.) I'm not going to go trying to fix this clusterfuck, because I know, if I do, somebody will just rv it & call "PGA rule" on me. So it's time this project actually took a look at how completly crazy this is. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 20:40, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Running time in the Infobox?

Hi. I have a question about the Infobox in television-related articles (in particular South Park), which I've asked here. Can editors please offer their thoughts? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 18:30, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

Clarification on formatting

When constructing a tv series article, do we list in the infobox only those episodes which have aired, or the (cited) total number of episodes slated for that season? - Jack Sebastian (talk) 18:16, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Proposed split of page for Amity Blight from List of The Owl House characters page

Hello everyone! I would like your input on a discussion on the List of The Owl House characters talk page, about whether to split off the section for Amity Blight into its own page. Currently, the page draft is available at Draft:Amity Blight, and consensus in this discussion is important to determine whether this character should get its own article. Thanks and I hope to see your comments. Historyday01 (talk) 01:41, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Content assessment#Proposal: Reclassification of Current & Future-Classes as time parameter, which is within the scope of this WikiProject. This WikiProject received this message because it currently uses "Current" and/or "Future" class(es). There is a proposal to split these two article "classes" into a new parameter "time", in order to standardise article-rating across Wikipedia (per RfC), while also allowing simultaneous usage of quality criteria and time for interest projects. Prod'ed ESPN show

 – Pointer to relevant discussion elsewhere.

If anyone's into working on ESPN shows: Sudden Death Seven-ball has a WP:PROD tag on it (expiring on Aug. 28). I'm not sure there's enough independent coverage that the article would survive AfD if the tag were removed, but people here may have a better idea where to find coverage of TV shows.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  22:06, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
