Advice sought - Melbourne trams articles
Recently there has been some discussion at Talk:C-class Melbourne tram#Proposed reorganisation of specification data. The central issue is should the infobox be split or should it be retained in the Infobox tram standard format.
The reasons for and against have been given in the article talk page. Can we please have some feedback from other editors as to which is the preferable format? DCB1927 (talk) 10:09, 17 March 2014 (UTC)

Westchester County, New York streetcar tidbits
Who has tidbits for my proposed List of streetcar lines in Westchester County, New York? I've been trying to start that list for several months, and I'm certainly not going to post it as is at this point. I've tried to ask people at WP:NYPT, but nobody there seems to have any info either. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 15:59, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
Leaflet for Wikiproject Streetcars at Wikimania 2014
Hi all,
My name is Adi Khajuria and I am helping out with Wikimania 2014 in London.
One of our initiatives is to create leaflets to increase the discoverability of various wikimedia projects, and showcase the breadth of activity within wikimedia. Any kind of project can have a physical paper leaflet designed - for free - as a tool to help recruit new contributors. These leaflets will be printed at Wikimania 2014, and the designs can be re-used in the future at other events and locations.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g:
• Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
• Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
• Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.
• Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____
• Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost
The deadline for submissions is 1st July 2014
For more information or to sign up for one for your project, go to:

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:48, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Distancing ourselves from Wikiproject Trains
Can we create our own banner rather than using {{WikiProject Trains}}. Instead can we have our own WPBannerMeta which says {{WikiProject Streetcars}}? Fremantle99 (talk) 22:14, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that's a good idea. This WikiProject has low participation - just look above to see how rarely a thread gets answered (I count just three threads which have replies in the last five years). Of the various signed-up participants, only about half (Arsenikk (talk · contribs) Bahnfrend (talk · contribs) Bluegoblin7 (talk · contribs) Cecropia (talk · contribs) Evan C (talk · contribs) Fremantle99 (talk · contribs) Kjet (talk · contribs) LPBrennan (talk · contribs) Mackensen (talk · contribs) N2xjk (talk · contribs) Psjk2106 (talk · contribs) Scillystuff (talk · contribs) Trolleychai (talk · contribs) YB3 (talk · contribs)) have made any edits anywhere in Wikipedia within the last year; many of those are also signed up at Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Members. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:27, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with Redrose64. May I suggest an alternative? A portal would be better than a banner. There are already portals for streetcars/trams in five other languages, and you can find links to them by clicking on this link to the wikidata page for them. Wikipedia:Portal has information on how to create a portal, further information can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals, and see also Portal:UK Trams. The first issue you would need to resolve is what to name the portal: Streetcars or Trams? My suggestion is that you name it Trams, because that's the plural of the name of the en.wiki article about the subject. Bahnfrend (talk) 12:06, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- I understand however WikiProject Trains is a similar project not our parent. I can make both a portal and a banner. Besides, what does participation have to do with anything Redrose64 (talk · contribs) Bahnfrend (talk · contribs)? Fremantle99 (talk) 21:08, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
- WikiProjects that have few participants soon become moribund, and may be marked as
{{inactive}}
, the result of which may be that it gets merged into another WikiProject. Given Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikiproject Trams, I would recommend that you seek formal approval at WP:COUNCIL/P, and please ensure that you notify WT:WikiProject Trains of your intentions. --Redrose64 (talk) 21:50, 20 January 2014 (UTC)- Alright then I'll do just that. Fremantle99 (talk) 20:36, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
- How do you notify the council Redrose64 (talk · contribs)? I see the thing about new WikiProjects and Task Forces but nothing for portals and banners. Fremantle99 (talk) 20:43, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Portal created find it at Portal:Trams Fremantle99 (talk) 21:16, 24 January 2014 (UTC) Guilty as charged... the minor edit I made today is the first in a long time, and it wasn't a streetcar page either. But the interest is still there.Trolleychai (talk) 20:07, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
- If you do decide to split off from WPTrains, you should 1)Change the userbox, because it looks too much like the WPTrains userbox; 2)Notify affiliated WikiProjects like WP:NYPT and WP:WMATA, and 3)Provide as much help as you can with my proposed List of streetcar lines in Westchester County, New York. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 17:49, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

- I agree - I recently selected that image as the image for the links to Portal:Trams. Bahnfrend (talk) 00:51, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
- Go to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Streetcars/reform for al reform information.Fremantle99 (talk) 05:56, 9 February 2014 (UTC)
- I would suggest merging back that "reform" talk subpage to this talk page, as splitting discussions onto separate pages tends to confuse editors. Note that this WikiProject is already set up as a taskforce of WikiProject Trains, and over 2,300 articles are tagged as such. So there is an option to simply add a separate importance rating and assessment table within WP Trains. Given that the two projects are so close in scope, and that many editors might wish to work on both, I would suggest that might work better than starting from zero with this new project template. The bigger problem I see is that currently is confusing when editing a tram related article, seeing first a train wikiproject and than the streetcars taskforce. I think it would be worth considering renaming this project into WikiProject Trams, as most articles within its scope are called use the term tram. --ELEKHHT 03:50, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi everyone! I spotted your individual project banner on a couple articles this week and that led me to your quality and importance categories and saw that they were created in June (and severely underpopulated). Yesterday I added code to the WP Trains banner to sort articles into these categories as appropriate and added the streetcars-importance
parameter so you can set that separately as well. After adding the code, I updated the template documentation to reflect the change. Now articles that are not tagged with your specific banner but are tagged with the WP Trains banner will appear in your assessment and importance categories. Today after checking that the categories are getting populated, I noticed this discussion.
I have no strong opinions on whether you choose to use your own banner or continue to use the WP Trains banner. Both are there for you to use. The most compelling reason that I see for having a separate banner would be if there are articles in your project's scope that are not within WP Trains' scope; I don't know of any articles like this, but that could be just that I haven't seen them yet. Two other examples of similar WikiProjects with their own banners are the Transport in Scotland and Transport in London projects; the WP Trains banner parameters sort them appropriately, but both of those projects also have their own banners. Some Scotland and London articles use the individual banners while many more use the WP Trains banner only. The Trains in Japan project used to have its own banner but redirected it to the WP Trains banner a few years ago even though there are a few articles within their scope that are not within WP Trains' scope; the Trains in India project was using a parameter on the WP India banner, but now has parameters in the WP Trains banner that sort articles appropriately as well. Expert attention
This is a notice about Category:Streetcars articles needing expert attention, which might be of interest to your WikiProject. It will take a while before the category is populated. Iceblock (talk) 22:56, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
Reassess Casablanca tramway
Hi,
Could someone perhaps reassess Casablanca tramway. I don't know the procedure for requesting that here at this project. (It's also at Wikiproject Trains.) It's currently stub class but I've translated practically all of the French article, as requested by the {{Expand French}}
tag – my guess is it should now be Start class. Thanks, Si Trew (talk) 16:57, 23 October 2014 (UTC)
