Adding an entry for Kennet Partners
I'd like to submit a draft entry for Kennet Partners, a firm I'm affiliated with. Kennet is a growth capital investment firm active in Europe and the US. A number of our peers, co-investors and competitors have Wikipedia entries.
The link to a draft page is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Yacout/Sandbox#Kennet_Partners
I have tried to respect the formatting guidelines and templates, but please forgive any errors.

Resources?
Thanks for inviting me to join the task force. Am I the third member?
Annual reports and analyst reports on some key firms are hard to find. What are the best sources of information for writing articles? Can you recommend a book or two that I can request on inter-library loan?

Creating PE firms
I am looking at the template proposed to create a new entry for a new PE firm but I am a bit confused (or lack experience) on how to take them and put them into a new page. Is there an example I can refer to? I looked at the Carlyle, Alpinvest pages but the entire format is different... So is there a page I can cut and paste the format of to create new entries...thanks for any guidance. from Tliaudet (talk) 08:48, 18 June 2008 (UTC)Tliaudet

Categorization of private equity firms
Category:Private equity firms now has 130 articles. Although there are many larger categories, this number arguably makes it hard to find articles or groups of similar articles.
I have proposed that firms be subcategorized by country - that is by country of headquarters, as indicated in List of private equity firms. The subcat would obviously remain in the Private equity firms category. This would be similar to the way other international businesses are categorised in WP - e.g. banks, insurance companies, law firms. Against this it is argued that PE firms are too international and subcategories would not be helpful.
I think the test question is: can x firm be said to be a US firm or a UK firm (or a firm from another country)?
Any views? Mhockey (talk) 18:06, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- As discussed already, I completely disagree. In addition to Category:Private equity firms of the United Kingdom You have already created:
- Your primary agenda appears to be categorizing UK related items and as it applies to PE, to start subcategorizing PE articles is not productive in my judgment.
- And in response the question is not can you subcategorize something but should you. In fact there is an entire page (WP:Overcategorization) for peple who think that everything that can be categorized should be. The question is how best to organize the articles. The articles are already divided by investment type between venture firms and more buyout focused articles. If there were hundreds of firms then it might be a reasonable argument to try to break down the list further. However, at that point I would argue that the geographic focus (i.e., US, Europe, Asia, LatAm) is far more important than the country where a firm is headquarterd. I think for now the existing categorization is more than enough. And given that many "UK" firms are either pan-European or global in investment focus, I think this is better left as is. |► ϋrbanяenewaℓ • TALK ◄| 19:15, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
I think there are a few red herrings here:
1. I have no agenda to categorize UK related items. I have an agenda to try and improve WP on matters where I have some knowledge.
2. I am happy to discuss each of the other categories I have set up, but the reasons are all different.
- Category:Investment trusts of the United Kingdom is a subcategory of Category:Funds. It could probably have been Category:Investment trusts - as far as I know there are none (or very few) outside the UK. I set up the category because someone had written dozens of stubs on investment trusts without categorizing them beyond saying they were companies quoted on the LSE.
- Category:Real estate investment trusts of the United Kingdom was set up because UK REITs have a quite different history and characteristics from US REITs, and I thought it confusing to mix them up.
And so on - but those issues are better discussed elsewhere.
3. WP:Overcategorization is mostly about placing articles in too many categories. It does tell us to avoid subcategorizing subjects by geographical boundary if that boundary does not have any relevant bearing on the subjects' other characteristics - if you are arguing that. I dislike overcategorization and I'm trying to reduce it. To take examples you have cited: many UK investment management companies were in both Category:Investment management companies and Category: Financial services companies of the United Kingdom. I substituted for both Category:Investment management companies of the United Kingdom. The UK REITs were in Category:Real estate investment trusts and Category:Property companies of the United Kingdom. Again I substituted one category for two.
The thing to focus on is that categories are a finding aid. Categories and subcategories are there to help the user find articles. If you are saying that no-one is likely to be looking for PE firms of the UK, or that "PE firms of the UK" is a meaningless concept, fair enough.
But you and I have aired our views enough. It would be good to get the views of others.Mhockey (talk) 21:18, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
To Do list
I see that this project has a large list of "Articles to create". What criteria has been used to select these candidates? Has thought been given to the general criteria for inclusion? Remember that Wikipedia should not be a directory of every Private Equity firm in existence.
I blanked your Template by accident and it Might not be my fault
Hello,
The invitation template on my Talk page is not the Substitute one as it should be, I think. So, when I edited it by blanking it; it wiped out the original; I suppose.--Wikipietime (talk) 03:01, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
Vision Capital
I am Julia van Tuyll and I work at Vision Capital. I am reaching out to this group for some advice on the creation of a dedicated Vision Capital Wikipedia page. There is already reference to Vision Capital on Wikipedia in context of our ownership of a number of portfolio companies. We think it would be very useful for Wikipedia users to be able to trace the owners of these portfolio companies, but despite our efforts to create a link from these mentions to our page, we have struggled to get any traction. I would be very grateful if you could consider working with us to create a page or give us advice on how we may move forward.
To give you some context, there are currently 26 companies within Vision Capital’s portfolio across Europe and the Americas. In total over 10,000 people are employed by companies owned by Vision. Vision Capital has raised seven funds totalling over EURO1.9bn. It currently has EURO1.7bn in AUM. Thank you for the feedback I have made a change to the initial content removing PEP Funds and replacing it with 'Funds advised by PEP'. It is not the intention to create a new entry rather improve the existing entry with more current information. - Since there is no article on PEP funds, I think what you need is Wikipedia:Articles for creation. There are instructions there on how to submit new articles for consideration. CorporateM (Talk) 01:49, 22 February 2013 (UTC)
- I have disabled the Request Edit. Can you please post this on the Talk page of the article? You may also want to get some help on the help board on how to format citations the format is clean enough for an editor to be able to review the content. CorporateM (Talk) 20:49, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

New article for review - Angel CoFund
Hi, after some initial drama surrounding the proposed content and oddly my username, I know that my content is being watched. I would like it if I could have some feedback/second opinions on the article found here User:IP7942/Business Angel Co-Investment Fund. I'm not sure which list to add it to on the main page or what tag to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks --IP7942 (talk) 15:31, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
- My references look messy, but using Visual Editor I can't see a way to edit the view of the references without deleting them and starting over. I would very much appreciate help with this too. --IP7942 (talk) 15:35, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

No deletion alerts here?
I am looking for the alerts section of this wiki-project. Other projects use it to alert members of nominations for deletions. Anyone? Ottawahitech (talk) 18:07, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Would you care to comment on this posting?
In addition, I am trying to find some model articles—Class B, Class A, Good article—as models for a venture capital article. I didn't see any on this project page, but perhaps they'd be posted somewhere else. If you have any input, that would be helpful!--CaroleHenson (talk) 23:45, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
NCORP
People working in this area should be aware of the current WP:NCORP guideline, which has recently become considerably more restrictive about which sources are considered usable to show notability. It is possible that some frequently used source in this area will no longer be considered acceptable for this purpose. I added a statement to that effect to the notability section of the project page. Formal guideline of course have variable strengths depending on how they are interpreted and used, but it is my personal observation that in recent months the standard seems widely accepted at AfD. A new newsletter directory is out!
A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom
parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:56, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
