History buff needed

Please check out List of current and former capital cities in the United States and make sure that North Carolina's capital cities are listed accurately. A word of warning: the page does contain quite a bit of complicated wiki formatting, so if you're not comfortable editing it, just post your changes on the talk page and someone more experienced will apply them to the article.   JEK   19:54, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Nominate articles for Portal:United States

I've worked for the past month to update Portal:United States and keep it better maintained. Though, I think the Portal:United States would be even better with broader participation. One way to do that is instead of choosing the "selected article" myself each week, if others would nominate articles and help make decisions. (same goes for pictures, though these are stocked up through July 29) If there is anything related to North Carolina (or anything else related to the U.S. - culture, music, literature, geography, history, politics, ...), please nominate. I'd also like people to weigh in on the nominations and help select what should be featured. Thanks. --Aude (talk contribs) 23:35, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

To increase awareness of the project, ...

I strongly suggest that you place a reference to it on the WikiPedia:List of WikiProjects page. Badbilltucker 17:45, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Done - I've also been adding the Project template to each NC related page I encounter. This will bring in the most awareness to the project as NC editors will take an interest. Morphh 14:34, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Adding the banner was taking forever - I've put in a request to have a bot add the template to every article under the Catagory "North Carolina". Morphh 04:23, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Everyone - Please look over this list User:Betacommand/North Carolina and remove any that should not get tagged with the Wikiproject North Carolina Template. Morphh 20:15, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

North Carolina for U.S. Collaboration of the Week Please Vote!!!! Morphh 17:36, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

New participants - North Carolina is still up for U.S. Collaboration of the Week Please Vote!!!! Morphh 15:44, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Quick question, Betacommandbot has been going around adding most tropical cyclone articles having to do with NC with a WPNC tag. Question being, is this what is wanted by WPNC? Cheers, – Chacor 04:23, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Feel free to remove the tag. It was very difficult to work out the details of tagging. It was based on articles that were under the North Carolina category. I tried my best to exclude things that did not fully apply but certainly some things might have gotten taged that did not fully apply. If you feel this article does not relate to the scope of the project, go ahead and remove the tag. Morphh 13:06, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

City, County & Metropolitan articles

I've just joined this list; I look forward to future participation. Thus far my NC work here has been limited to cities, counties, town and metro areas across the state - primarily attempting to build some layout continuity between them. Some of the metro articles in particular lack consistency - I'd like to hear some other organizational ideas; the Charlotte, Triad and Triangle articles could stand for reorganization and general review. I've noticed a lot of "chamber of commerce"-type promotional stuff getting inserted into those pages randomly; and they lack maps and illustrations.

I'd also like to see metropolitan area articles developed for all of the NC MSAs (metropolitan statistical areas) that don't already have them: Asheville, Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton, Fayetteville, Wilmington, Greenville and a few others. I'd like to see the standards between the big three worked out first however. Any thoughts?

Another idea - I'm taking the liberty of inserting this template, which is being used in association with Alabama cities/metros:

Any thoughts on developing something like this for the NC Metros? I like the concision of this; it would make a good way to clean up the long lists we have now.--Davidals 17:38, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm with you on the general review - we should probably put some of these articles up for Peer Review. I'm not that familiar with the Metro Stats but the template does look interesting. Morphh (talk) 17:44, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the note - I'm slowly working on this, but other help and opinions are fantastic. Likewise, I'm trying to beef up some of the NC culture stuff - thus far making sure a few things/people (Romare Bearden, Carson McCullers, Merge Records, David Gordon Green [+his films], Black Mountain College, et. al.) have approriate NC category links, which apparently flew under some radars... All slow going...--Davidals 00:28, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Surf City, NC

Surf City is currently listed in Pender County which is mostly correct. On the Onslow County page there is a link to Surf City which brings you to the pender county page. There is a small part of Surf City which is actually in Onslow County. Can someone research this in some more detail? Rob110178 09:46, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Community Colleges

One of the first personal projects I ever took on was creating an article for the North Carolina Community College System (where I used to teach), with links for potential articles for each school and identification of where it is located. I've been creating the articles as I have time, but it's always easier for me to create them for the ones I know a little about and the ones in larger metro areas (e.g., Durham Tech). Moreover, when I started, I didn't know much about editing, so they're sketchy on that front, too.

I wanted to request that anyone with an interest check the main NCCCS page (by the way, you can use the shortcut NCCCS) and start articles for the community colleges that are still redlinked. I also am just now starting to get familiar with school infoboxes, so the articles are mostly text. It's also possible that some of you would have images of the schools that could be uploaded under the correct licensing, to liven up the pages. Lawikitejana 00:47, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I've started and completed the Mitchell Community College page. I'll keep updating it, adding new sections, etc.

Invitation to new WikiProject

A new WikiProject has been started, and may be of interest to members here. It is WikiProject National Register of Historic Places. It covers all listings on the Register, in all states and territories. Should you be so inclined, please feel free to join. And spread the word to any other interested parties. -Ebyabe 19:52, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 19:14, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Tar Heel Article

I have vastly changed the article for Tar Heel and I was hoping some members from this project may lend some help so we can get this article up to GA status. Remember 21:47, 5 November 2006 (UTC)

The North Carolina is currently under review for GA and on hold for minor changes. Suggestions for GA approval are on the article talk page. Please review and assist in getting this article to GA. Thanks Morphh (talk) 04:13, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

I created an SVG version of Image:WPNC.jpg; see Image:WPNC.svg. Feel free to use it for your project and modify it as you see fit. Mike Dillon 07:54, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Excellent - Thank you Morphh (talk) 17:42, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 22:16, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
