You may be interested in the above photo contest, which runs from Oct. 21-Dec. 4, 2011. There is a specific challenge for photographing NRHP-listed sites in DC. Also, several of us are working on getting the tables at National Register of Historic Places listings in Washington, D.C. and subsidiary tables ready before Wikimania 2012. This would mean including a photograph for each site (about 42 sites remain without one), and starting an article for each DC NRHP listing. Any help appreciated. WikiWomen's History Month
Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:DC will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in DC's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 23:57, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- And on that note, I am planning an edit-a-thon about women in science in March to be held in DC, however, this won't focus specifically on women in DC. Please ping me if you want to work on a Washingtonian theme for the month of March in the project or something offline! SarahStierch (talk) 23:57, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Brian Lamb
I'd like to invite members of this WikiProject to review and comment on a new draft for the article about C-SPAN founder Brian Lamb which I have written, and is currently under discussion on the Paid Editor Help page of WikiProject Cooperation. I have indeed written the new draft on behalf of C-SPAN, and because of my COI I'm seeking consensus for the change as opposed to making changes directly. However, at present there's one independent editor who finds the article a clear improvement and another who prefers the current one, so further views would be helpful. Congressional Cemetery project
Dear Washingtonians,
I've started a little project involving QR codes, QRpedia, and the Congressional Cemetery. For a one-month trial period, 6 QR codes which link to Wikipedia via QRpedia, have been installed at the Congressional Cemetery. Please take a look at Outreach for things you can do to help continue this project. Probably the best thing you can do is to visit the cemetery and scan the codes with your smartphone. We'll all be checking the statistics to see if this is really a worthwhile venture.
Any help, suggestions or questions would be appreciated.

C-SPAN Video Library / External links project
Hi, I'm looking for editors to help with a C-SPAN related project. Previously, I've worked on the C-SPAN article and those for related topics, on behalf of the organization. Since C-SPAN falls under this Wikiproject I wondered if editors here would be interested in helping out with a process I've set up to add links to topic-specific C-SPAN interviews to relevant articles.
The basic idea is that there are many articles about public figures who have a page on the C-SPAN Video Library and, while there are templates with parameters for C-SPAN website URLs in External links sections, many articles do not currently include them. For example, in the George H.W. Bush article, you can see that a link has been added for "Appearances on C-SPAN programs". These links are potentially a great resource for readers of the articles they're added to and also for editors who can use the interviews to add more detail to articles.
I created a Reward board entry for the project, so if you're able to help out you can claim the rewards (a barnstar-style award, and C-SPAN hat) described there. The full list of articles to add links to, with instructions, is in my user space: User:WWB Too/C-SPAN ELs
Let me know if you'd like to help out. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 16:26, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
examiner used as a ref
I was working on the article for the Dupont Circle Fountain and got a blacklisted EL warning for an existing citation that used examiner.com (which is blacklisted), which was citing the sentence "The park has also been the location of political rallies, such as [...] those protesting the 2003 invasion of Iraq...". Previously the URL did not include he http portion of the URL so the spam blacklist didn't pick it up. It seems wrong to leave it as is (it's deliberately circumventing the blacklist, and is a malformed link). I also hate to remove it and leave an uncited statement. So, I'm asking you all for some help. --Bachrach44 (talk) 09:53, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Images for C-SPAN
I'm not sure how active this board is, but I'd like to see if I can find someone to review some suggestions I've made for new images to include in the flagship C-SPAN entry. I intend this as a step along the way to FA candidacy, and it would be swell if anyone here would like to be part of that; in the meantime, however, the article needs a few more images. See here for that request. Happy to answer any questions, if need be. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 18:25, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Expand scope?
Is anyone interested in expanding the scope of the project beyond District of Columbia, into the Washington MSA areas in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia? There was a previous discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_District_of_Columbia/Archive_1#DC_scope. I think it would be useful to have the entire metro area in one project. Los Angeles and the "city" wikiprojects below (Chicago, Houston, San Francisco Bay Area, etc) cover entire metro areas. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:51, 21 May 2013 (UTC)
- I awai a response within 7 days. If there are no responses I will change the scope. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:18, 24 May 2013 (UTC)
- Seems reasonable to me. I think we do need to clarify exactly what that scope is though as in how far out. I would recommend using the beltway as the general "Metro" criteria although we could go a little outside that I suppose like Andrews AFB and the National Harbour area. Kumioko (talk) 03:41, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
- Comment that seems reasonable. At the very least WPDC should cover the areas returned via retrocession to Virginia. Ofcourse, everything inside the beltway, as well, the various Washinginton/DC military districts, such as including Andrews AFB. The metro-DC region should be in scope. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 05:12, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
- Comment: Personally I had the Wasington MSA in mind as often the projects are defined by the MSA but I agree that the retrocession places are absolutely needed. If people think there won't be enough attention on DC itself there can be a DC task force within a DC metro WikiProject. WhisperToMe (talk) 12:21, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Help reviewing revised draft of C-SPAN
Hello, anyone watching this page! I'm looking for an editor (or editors) to review an updated draft I have prepared for the C-SPAN article. Back in late April, I requested a peer review of the article and received feedback from two separate editors. I incorporated a number of their suggestions, and what I did not include I subsequently explained at Talk:C-SPAN. Unfortunately, neither editor has offered any follow-up comment.
The reason why I have not been bold and made these changes: I am not just a fan of C-SPAN, but in fact I am a consultant to the network. Because I have this financial COI, I am avoiding all direct edits to the live article, and my revised version remains in my userspace, here: User:WWB_Too/C-SPAN_(2013_revision)
Since this article falls under the purview of this WikiProject, this is one place I'll be asking. If an editor here is able to review the the changes—and perhaps move them live—I would really appreciate it. Worth noting: my explanation is meant to be thorough, so it will take a bit of time. However, I've tried to make it as easy (and fun?) to follow the changes as possible. Hope to see you at Talk:C-SPAN, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 22:00, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Discussion to remove the Automatically assessed logic from the WikiProject United States template
Greetings, there is a discussion regarding removal of the logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories from Template:WikiProject United States. Most of the categories (over 220 Wikipedia wide) were deleted in February 2013 because they were empty. These categories were previously populated by a bot that hasn't run since 2011 and the categories aren't used. Removal of this uneeded/unused logic will greatly reduce the size and complexity of the WikiProject United States template. Any comments or questions are encouraged here. Kumioko (talk) 18:22, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Lest there is any confusion for people who don't speak the same language, the words "logic used to populate Automatically assessed article categories" refer to the feature that was supposed to allow this WikiProject's template to "inherit" class and importance ratings from other WikiProjects. Kumioko says that there are no longer any bots performing the function that formerly copied those ratings. --Orlady (talk) 22:57, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Requesting FA review for C-SPAN
Hello, anyone watching this page! As I mentioned in a message on this Talk page back in April, I am interested in bringing the C-SPAN article up to FA status. I've spent several months updating and improving this article following a Peer review and have now submitted it to WP:FAC. I would like to invite any interested editor to review the C-SPAN article and to contribute to the discussion on the FAC page.
Frequent readers of this Talk page might be familiar with me, but if not, I am a consultant to C-SPAN so my work on this article has been done in accordance with Jimbo's advisory to COI editors, as explained in his Paid Advocacy FAQ. This means I have avoided, and will continue to avoid, direct edits to the article. For this reason I hope all editors will feel welcome to make changes directly to the article.
If you are interested, the FAC discussion can be found here. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 13:05, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! The monthly collaboration is now in its third month since reactivation. The first article Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was improved significantly in February, as was George Washington (the second one) in March. Although the latter article was not nominated for GA, enough work was done for contributors to identify remaining content areas needing improving before an attempt is made, which is great progress. Thus anyone keen on reading up on Washington's role in the American Revolution and the presidency is most welcome to review and contribute. Magicpiano (talk · contribs) is planning on buffing material for the American Revolution segment by focussing on the daughter article, George Washington in the American Revolution first. Anyway, Chesapeake Bay is the new collaboration picked for April and anyone is welcome to work on it. For choosing new candidate articles for May and beyond, editors should think about articles which have a range of issues that a variety of editors can help with, from content (primary school to university level research) to copyediting. Having a look over current and past ideas (which can be seen here and here (even older ones). So folks have a think about which articles are in most in need of fixing, or alternately, have a clear pathway to GA or FA status. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Category Name Change from [[Category:Washington, D.C. City Council members]] to [[:Category:Members of the Council of the District of Columbia]]
The correct name of the legislative body in the District of Columbia is the Council of the District of Columbia. A text vs. footnote query
Can we get some opinions on the article about Trayon White? The two editors currently looking at the article are both on the fence about something, and would love some input from others. The issue (as discussed on the article Talk page) is that some information in a footnote might be better served by being in the main text. On the other hand, both editors also think it's minor enough to keep in a footnote. Some additional input would be nice. - Tim1965 (talk) 15:45, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

- @Timothyjosephwood:, I visited the restaurant last night, kind of. Turns out they were closed for a private event and had a large tent in front of the entrance so I couldn't really take a picture of the exterior. The only thing I took a picture of were some support signs left by locals. I was going to take some more, but an employee came out and was giving me a strange look. She might have been wary of someone taking photos of the place after all that's happened. (with all these "private investigators" on the interwebs) I didn't think the line "oh I'm from Wikipedia" would make her feel less uneasy, so I left. APK whisper in my ear 22:50, 14 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Timothyjosephwood:, sorry for the delay. I took the photos on Sunday as I said I would, and then had a computer problem that I finally was able to resolve today. I just uploaded the photos. I was able to get a new exterior photo, and like APK, some of the support signs. The planters out front are permanent, so the exterior of the building is always blocked. I think the tent is new. I go by it regularly, but to be honest, I don't pay attention to it. I did not get any interior shots as they were filled to overflowing. I doubt they wanted me taking photos inside just the same. Looking for help with ICF International
Hello! I created ICF International (new proposed draft) for Fairfax, Virginia-based ICF International and posted this edit request. Members of WikiProject District of Columbia might be interested in this as ICF has consulted for the federal government over the decades. The article was essentially stubbed after an editor found that other editors inserted potential copyright violations. My draft fixes issues I saw with the previous iterations of the article: the entry relied heavily on primary sources, its content was choppy, fragmented and outdated. I'm asking for another editor to review and consider implementing my proposed edits because I am working on behalf of ICF, as I've disclosed on the article's Talk page. Please let me know if you have any questions at all. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 18:02, 4 August 2017 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 10:55, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
Help updating Gallup (company)

- Tim1965, I assume "Mayor of Washington, D.C." would be the "correct" name. epicgenius (talk) 14:40, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. The period in "D.C." messes up URLs. When a person pastes the URL into something (like, say, Facebook), the receiving program interprets the final period as a sentence-ender, not part of the URL. The pasted URL then doesn't lead back to the correct article. This is why most articles which would end with "Washington, D.C." use "District of Columbia" instead. - Tim1965 (talk) 15:26, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
- No, I mean the name of the article. The period(s) don't mess up the links. It works perfectly fine with the main article. What I mean is that there is an inconsistency in the articles' names. Why "Washington, D.C." in one place and "District of Columbia" in another? HandsomeFella (talk) 15:47, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

I have recently created a bot to remove completed infobox requests and am sending this message to WikiProject District of Columbia since the project currently has a backlogged infobox request category. Details about the task can be found at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/PearBOT 2, but in short it removes all infobox requests from articles with an infobox, once a week. To sign up, reply with {{ping|Trialpears}} and tell me if any special considerations are required for the Wikiproject. For example: if only a specific infobox should be detected, such as {{infobox journal}} for WikiProject Academic Journals; or if an irregularly named infobox such as {{starbox begin}} should be detected. Update to peer review page
Hi all, I've boldly updated your project's peer review page (Wikipedia:WikiProject District of Columbia/Peer review) by updating the instructions and archiving old reviews.
The new instructions use Wikipedia's general peer review process (WP:PR) to list peer reviews. Your project's reviews are still able to be listed on your local page too.
The benefits of this change is that review requests will get seen by a wider audience and are likely to be attended to in a more timely way (many WikiProject peer reviews remain unanswered after years). The Wikipedia peer review process is also more maintained than most WikiProjects, and this may help save time for your active members.
I've done this boldly as it seems your peer review page is pretty inactive and I am working through around 90 such similar peer review pages. Please feel free to discuss below - please ping me ({{u|Tom (LT)}}) in your response.
Cheers and hope you are well, Tom (LT) (talk) 23:27, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.

Could someone more familiar with D.C. geography verify all of the entries are specifically related to and within the boundaries of Federal Triangle?
Just want to make sure the category and template are correct. I'm specifically concerned about The Bex Eagle, Equestrian statue of Casimir Pulaski, Freedom Plaza, and John J. Pershing General of the Armies, as noted at Talk:The Bex Eagle, Talk:Equestrian statue of Casimir Pulaski, Talk:Freedom Plaza, and Talk:John J. Pershing General of the Armies, respectively. Would someone mind double checking for me?

Families USA COI edit requests
Hi! I've posted some COI edit requests at Talk:Families USA. Sharing in case anyone here is interested in taking a look. To plead my case a bit – these requests have been open since February, and I really think they could improve the depth and quality of sources and information in the article. I've shared a lot of content for review, but I would welcome any feedback or assistance, even on just a few items. Thanks for reading! Mary Gaulke (talk) 03:04, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class=
parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom
parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Aymatth2 (talk) 16:48, 10 April 2023 (UTC)

DC in a table in a state column?
I'm working with an editor on tables about fraternity chapters. The tables will have City and State of the school as columns. Is there any guidance as to whether DC belongs in the State Column?

Discussion at Wikipedia:Content assessment
You are invited to join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Content assessment#Proposal: Reclassification of Current & Future-Classes as time parameter, which is within the scope of this WikiProject. This WikiProject received this message because it currently uses "Current" and/or "Future" class(es). There is a proposal to split these two article "classes" into a new parameter "time", in order to standardise article-rating across Wikipedia (per RfC), while also allowing simultaneous usage of quality criteria and time for interest projects. DC Tech article
I've submitted two drafts on DC Tech and its history - while the first draft needed some work, most recently my submission was denied in a driveby review for reference/notability by a deleted user/bot. I've looked at Wikipedia's articles about Technology Clusters and would say "DC Tech" is now in the top 25% in both notability and article quality. The current re-review queue is 2 months long. Can someone help me get this accepted? Caywood (talk) 04:31, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
