Leonsis edits
[edit]Hi there, I'm hoping we can iron out the issues of the Controversies section on the Ted Leonsis article. I started a discussion on the Talk page about the back and forth the editors seem to be having regarding the 2004 Hammer incident, and about the section in general, so I'd love to get your views there so we can get some resolution. Ronan Farrow
[edit]Hi - I noticed you recently had some of your edits to Ronan Farrow undone by a IP editor. I used to attempt to edit that entry but gave up because it was so overrun by sockpuppets trying to massage the bio. I wanted to let you know I've filed a sockpuppet investigation request for the editor who undid your edits (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/AsadR#15_January_2014). If you are interested in continuing to contribute to Ronan Farrow, or opening a point for discussion on the Talk page about reinserting your contributions, I would be happy to lend my 0.02. I thought your contributions were appropriate and reasonable. BlueSalix (talk) 10:21, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Just wanted to touch bases. I've removed content added to the Ted Leonsis article. While we cannot use this extraneous material based on the nature alone, the content is only sourced to blogs and unreliable sources. You may wish to review the guidelines for reliable sources and verifiability. If you have questions, please feel free to drop me a line. Best regards, Cindy(talk) 23:24, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

[edit]Hi there. I twice wrote out a longer note here only to find my browser crashed and my unsaved edit was lost. Can you please just read my mind, instead? Thanks, --doncram 17:04, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- I guess not. Mainly I was hoping you might choose to fix up Draft:Bud Otis and move it to Harold F. Otis or Bud Otis, but no problem if not, i would submit it to articles for creation sometime.
- And FYI, since I drafted that by modifying from a copy of Jessica Fitzwater, i noticed miniscule suggestions maybe:
- when naming a reference to be able to re-use it, you don't need to use quotes if it is a single word. E.g. ref name=fnpprofile and ref name=fnpprofile/ rather than ref name="fnpprofile"/ saves a few electrons.
using {{cite news}}, the newspaper would be the "publisher=", is the usage I see. A "work=" might be part of describing an item as something unusual, different than a newspaper article, but i am not sure what. Maybe the work= field is more useful with {{cite book}}.(never mind, i was wrong per {{cite news}})- and Frederick News-Post has an article so can be wikilinked (and is hyphenated)
- date of the newspaper article is more important than the accessdate,
- So i'd revise from Jessica[1]
- to Fitzwater[2]
- (Oops, I have accessed the FNP too many times so it won't let me see the article and get the correct author and publication date here, so I just put in the ones that were correct for Bud Otis's profile, instead).

[edit]Hi, I just wanted to let you know I've been in contact with User:Artmaven77 and other folks at the Hirshhorn museum about the recent policy violations that happened on Melissa Chiu's article. First of all, thank you for your work defending the Wiki from undisclosed COI, self-promotion, and sockpuppetry. I really wish that her husband hadn't decided to take matters into his own hands, but it is too late now I suppose. He is far from the first to get tripped up in this fashion. Anyway, I'm talking with other Smithsonian and Hirshhorn staff to try and increase their awareness of about how to edit ethically and avoid COI. I hope that, in the end, the result will be a better, more useful encyclopedia around art-related topics and biographies. Cheers, Sarasays (talk) 02:40, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Jack Evans and DC Council
[edit]Hi, I do mostly agree with your opinions that the Jack Evans page is poorly organized and contains some random, piecemeal information. As I mentioned, I am trying to improve the pages for dc government officials and information generally. Some of those pages are in need some serious attention and it seems like you have the interest and research knowledge of local sources to provide excellent content. Phil Mendelson is my first, major endeavor, as he is Chairman of the Council and his page contains very little information, but [Yvette Alexander]'s page also lacks rich detail.Anonymouse202 (talk) 20:40, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

- I wrote on the talk page that the entry for Comilla city is confused with Comilla District as a lot of the content on the city page is about subjects outside of the city and really belongs on the district page. My note was written about 7 years ago. It looks like the page has changed a lot but hasn't improved very much. It appears that you've added a lot to the page but haven't provided any references. Sources are very important. You really should add a source for something like the names of metro neighborhoods. If you don't have a source and are just listing neighborhoods based on your memory, you should remove those contributions. Bangabandhu (talk)
Your edit has been undone by this diff. A discussion on the talk page to return the information to the article is taking place. Perhaps you would like to participate. Buster Seven Talk 06:54, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

Resource Request follow up
[edit]Hi Bangabandhu,
Last month a Resource Request volunteer reported sending you a copy of:
- Demetri Porphyrios, "Classicism is not a Style," in "Architectural Design" vol. 52, no. 5/6, 1982
to complete your request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request#New Classical Architecture. They didn't make it clear whether you had also acknowledged receipt. We've all experienced cases where a wrong file is attached or anti-spam software filters it out, so we like to close the loop on requests by hearing from the requester that they actually received the article they wanted. You can do this by marking the request {{resolved}}, or simply reply, and I'll mark it for you. Worldbruce (talk) 16:37, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. I'll reply there as well, but I haven't received the article. A link was posted to it for downloading, but I don't have account at OCLC to access. Not sure how to send a wikimail, as suggested. Thanks for the follow up. Bangabandhu (talk) 17:20, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
Classicism is not a Style pdf
[edit]I have obtained, and can send you a full text pdf of:

to complete your request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request#New Classical Architecture. Please use Special:EmailUser to email me so that I can reply with the pdf as an attachment. Regards, Worldbruce (talk) 02:09, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

Catenary arch and weighted catenary
[edit]Agreed, the two are quite similar. However, there is a distinct difference:
- Catenary arches only support their own weight, are of uniform thickness and
- Weighted catenaries may not be not of uniform thickness, or, support more than their own weight.
This is why I feel there should be two articles. Certainly they should be cross-linked.
dino (talk) 16:16, 18 November 2016 (UTC)
- Are you sure that a requirement of a catenary arch is that has uniform thickness? It's my impression that weighted catenaries are a subset of catenary arches. Also, there's not enough content for weighted cateneries to merit a separate entry. Bangabandhu (talk) 20:49, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Notability criteria in Deaths in 2016 list
[edit]Hi. There is provision for notability to be proven over a period of 30 days in the article Deaths in 2016. This is agreed by past consensus of interested editors: if a link to a person listed and properly referenced (which Tudor Braga certainly is currently) remains a redlink thirty days after the date of death, it must be removed. The reason why this is not done earlier is to allow creation of an article if notability can be proven. In the case of Braga, notability remains a possibility, despite what any of us might think. On the 4th January 2017, Braga may well stay on the list (if blue), or disappear if still red. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 22:58, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

reversals
[edit]OK, it is time we discuss. We tend to chose only one official website. Since there is no 'subject.com' official website (controlled by the subject) we tend to chose from one of the social networking sites controlled by the subject, and preferably the one that is most informative regarding the subject. In this case we should chose only the facebook or only the twitter, except if there are compelling reasons to link both. In my experience, generally facebook pages tell more about the subject than the twitter, but I am willing to be convinced otherwise. What would be your suggestion? --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:36, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
- I think the purpose of the guideline is to prevent traffic from being diverted to commercial or self-promoting sites. That's not the case here. Readers, like me, want to know about all the official accounts of our elected officials. It just isn't helpful for you to choose between Twitter or Facebook as which one is official. I appreciate what you're doing, but I think your efforts would be most useful to the projectif they were directed at external links in the text body, not external links that are already in the external links section. External (not as reference) links in the body really disrupt the flow of the text and far more likely to divert traffic than something in the external links section. Bangabandhu (talk) 00:30, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- No, you are thinking about WP:SPAM. Our policies and guidelines suggest to minimize links. And that is also reflected in the template documentation of many of the templates that are in use for social networking sites.
- While doing this, I also take out inline external links, and sometimes clear out improper referencing, tag articles that are unreferenced, etc. --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:11, 9 March 2017 (UTC)
- Right, I understand how you're interpreting the guidelines. I don't think deleting elected official's Twitter accounts makes a stronger entry, especially when you're arbitrarily deciding between Facebook and Twitter and the guidelines discourage Facebook links. Why not just leave well enough alone and make less questionable edits, which is the case with inline external links? Bangabandhu (talk) 14:37, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Notice of Neutral point of view noticeboard discussion
[edit]There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.
- You and I seem to be talking well past one another and I think we're spending too much time at it. I've put up a posting asking for some additional eyes. I've said really nothing about the substance, figuring a review of the article and its Talk page will do, and I tried to be evenhanded in describing our general disagreement. I hope you agree. Sorry for the template - I'd have told you about this anyhow - but the page said I needed to do it. JohnInDC (talk) 16:28, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

For your awesome contributions to politician articles including Jan Gardner, Jack Evans (D.C. politician), and many more! gidonb (talk) 06:06, 17 June 2018 (UTC) |
Thanks for this and thanks for saving that Gardner article in your talkspace. Someday, I hope. Bangabandhu (talk) 23:54, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi. Regarding Jack Evans (D.C. politician), providing a citation for cases like this can be problematic and tricky. Sometimes people complain about this "primary" source rule. If you have any thoughts about how to balance these competing interests, I'd be interested.
Also, unrelated, there are occasionally D.C. meetups if you're into that kind of thing. --MZMcBride (talk) 05:25, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
- I'd never seen him mentioned as John, so without the sourcing I thought it was vandalism. I don't understand how anyone could seriously argue that no source is better than a primary source.
- Thanks for the word on the meetup! You should definitely invite Jack Evans, too. Bangabandhu (talk) 11:33, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

[edit]This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have recently shown interest in living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect: any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or any page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
DCist has quoted you in what appears to be clear evidence of a COI. Having directed personal animosity towards an article subject arguably makes your involvement with that article a BLP violation, and I would advise you to refrain from editing the article. Should you continue to edit the article, tread carefully, because you will be subject to the aforementioned discretionary sanctions going forward. Swarm ♠ 05:24, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

== A page you started (Fort Myer Construction) has been reviewed!
[edit]Thanks for creating Fort Myer Construction.
I have just reviewed the page, as a part of our page curation process and note that:
The article's content itself is well-written and neutral, but the section titles for "Contracting practices", "Other awards", and "Staffing" are misleading and give a biased impression of the company's history to a reader skimming the article.
To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Rosguill}}

- Thanks for the feedback, I'll revise the section titles. Bangabandhu (talk) 14:52, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for your suggestion to improve the page. I added a couple of links, and I am removing the template. The foundation of the museum was quite a noteworthy event in the history of the Nazi occupation in Ukraine, and is cited in numerous sources, including those of Ukraine's governmental agencies, which can be retrieved by simple googling. --Dmitri Lytov (talk) 22:55, 10 April 2019 (UTC)
United States Park Police
[edit]Hello Bangabandhu, Several years ago I stumbled across a large number of articles on federal judges. Most of them were direct copies of pages from Federal Judicial Center biography pages. That bothered me but I couldn't find any Wikipedia policy or guideline that argued against it. The United States Park Police article is on my watch list so I noticed the talk page section you started. I've done what I can to clear up a misunderstanding regarding public domain sources. I'll leave the debate regarding the article's content to others. Gab4gab (talk) 19:59, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
Fort Myer Construction Company edits
[edit]I tried to add more information about Fort Myer from a Court Case alleging that the Fort Myer family of companies are a RICO enterprise. (Racketeers)
I did not know how to insert a foot note. Could you help with this. There is much more to say about this company and its alleged criminal activities and mysterious deaths. Are you interested?
Thanks Contento1941 (talk) 02:23, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
- You're not putting a space in ref name - wikipidia doesn't know how to read refname, so it came out all mangled. I reverted the addition because the significance of that case isn't clear, or the quote that you added. I'm sure there's pages of pages of testimony in most court cases involving the company, so why pick that one? I prefer to stick with secondary sources - if the issue is significant enough to merit mention in the Washington Post or the Washington Business Journal, its a good indication of its notability. Did any media write about that testimony/case? I suggest adding it back in, citing that source. Bangabandhu (talk) 14:08, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

The article Janeese Lewis George has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Fails notability guidelines for politicians. Google searches not finding anything to support WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. noq (talk) 16:02, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

CORE
[edit]Hi Bangabandhu, thank you for keeping an eye on the CORE page. I have been trying to edit it to update the info given that the company has changed since 2019. There is a new co-founder in Ann Lee, per their website. I understand you are trying to make sure the edits are accurate, but please check the sources on the article to verify the info. All the info is verified. If you have any direct questions, I'm happy to provide info. (For example: Jenkins was the co-founder of J/p hro, not CORE). Please review the edits before you undo them. Thanks for your help in keeping an eye on the page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KNWLEDGEISPWR (talk • contribs) 02:20, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
- No, you haven't resolved the sourcing. See RS-SELF. Self-published sources are largely not acceptable. There are a slew of other issues. We can take it up on the talk page so that other editors can contribute and it will be documented there. Bangabandhu (talk) 01:38, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
Donot turn this page into your personal views page, Wikipedia is not place for propaganda. We have structure for all articles about Law enforcement, this article is not any different. Just compare. I have to inform administratotors about your actions. Once again, this is not a propaganda place. M.Karelin (talk) 10:44, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- What "structure" are you referring to? All contributions to the page are well-sourced and relevant. I wish the same were true for your comments. Bangabandhu (talk) 12:47, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Oye Owolewa page
[edit]Greetings, this is Oye Owolewa himself. There's an article about me that recently published that went into detail about my life. I've included information that is very important for the general public to know. The entire biography is factual and was referenced. A lot of time was spent putting that together. I noticed that you changed it and referred it back to the previous content that had a lot of issues and did not tell a full story about me. I'd like for you to either restore the page to the contents previously published. Or allow me to do so and leave my page alone. Thanks in advanced.
- Dr. Oye Owolewa US Representative of Washington, DC Ajnvoxo (talk) 19:08, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
- There's a lot of issues here. First, Wikipedia is not a place for you to write your autobiography, or share a version of yourself you want the world to see. Wikipedia specifically discourages users writing about themselves, see WP:BLPEDIT. Most of the edits were made by SMBraund, a sole purpose account that has only edited that page. The comment above suggests that's actually you. It is important you familiarize yourself with guidelines against multiple accounts, WP:MULTIPLE.
- The biggest problem with your edits was that nothing you added was actually corroborated by the sources you provided. For example,
While in high school Owolewa dedicated himself to community service. In 2006, he joined the Boston Student Advisory Council, a citywide body of elected school leaders representing Boston's public schools. He went on to serve as vice president, and later president. Owolewa also partnered with both Boston University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s National Society of Black Engineers to create a Boston Latin School Pre-College Initiative, serving as the group’s president from 2006 to 2008. Between 2007 and 2008, Owolewa served on the Boston Public School Committee as the alternative student representative. In 2008, he was one of a hundred students nationwide chosen to visit Washington D.C. and meet Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Stephen Breyer. It proved a momentous occasion. Overwhelmed by the cultural and historical significance of the nation's capital, Owolewa decided it would one day be his home.
- Apart from the tone, which is self-aggrandizing and unencyclopedic, none of the sources support any of the content. Providing a link to a URL of subject is much different from providing an independent, verified source. The same is true for all of the additions to the article. It is especially important that you not change content that is factual and supported by references. You seem to want to change that you were born in Nigeria, as multiple sources state, and write that you were born in Boston. Bangabandhu (talk) 21:00, 27 February 2021 (UTC)
