All astronaut bios
[edit]Is there consensus that (presumtively) all biography articles about individual astronauts are within the scope of this task force? Does that imply all talk pages associated with articles that transclude {{Infobox Astronaut}} should be marked with {{WPAVIATION}} with "Biography=yes"? (sdsds - talk) 18:56, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think that that's safe to say. If you wish add the banner, go for it. If there are any objections they would arise on a page by page basis. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 19:11, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- All those articles should also include {{HSF Project}} 76.66.196.218 (talk) 15:37, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- Now the HSF banner is deprecated; please use {{WikiProject Spaceflight}}.. thanks. Mlm42 (talk) 20:04, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
Article creation assistance
[edit]There's a new template Template:WPAVIATION creator that can be used to assist in creating new articles. It will start things off by creating a page with all the standard information/headers/infoboxes, etc. You just have to fill in the blanks and save. It's still in the early design stages, so check it out and let me know how it can be improved. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 22:02, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
I plan to rename the subject article to Aldasoro brothers and to create redirects to the individual brothers, Aldasoro and Eduardo Aldasoro Suárez, similar to Wright brothers and Boland brothers. This seems the best way to handle these two inseparable brothers. Any other ideas? - Canglesea (talk) 20:48, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good plan. We'll end up with two redirects pointing to the same article, which is as it should be for now. If at some later point someone wants to write an entire article about one or the other, they can easily replace the redirect with their article text. Note however that a google search shows there is another pair of "Aldasoro Brothers" in Telluride, Colorado, and google finds more references to them than to Juan Pablo and Eduardo. (sdsds - talk) 21:01, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Marianne Merchez
[edit]Should the Marianne Merchez article be tagged with WPAVIATION|biography=yes? She is licensed as a pilot, and was trained as an astronaut, and the page uses the astronaut infobox template, but she never flew in space. Where do we want to draw the line for cases like this? (sdsds - talk) 21:17, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, Done The biography tag includes everyone from earth-bound aeronautical engineers. to pilots, and astronauts. - Canglesea (talk) 03:18, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Initial Aerospace Biography Tagging
[edit]I've completed review and tagging of Biography articles in the Category:Aviation articles with no associated task force. Thanks to Trevor and others for their help as well. Our current count of 2,300+ biography articles should be fairly accurate now. I will review the Military aviation/biography lists to pick up a few more. - Canglesea (talk) 18:41, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Frederick George Miles
[edit]Miles was tagged as an aircraft project and I have just changed it it Biography as more appropriate, it is start class does the class stay the same with changing the sub-project? Thanks MilborneOne (talk) 19:10, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, the class stays the same. I have added the B/C Class checklist; it needs a better lead section, infobox, and better citations to be promoted to C or B class. Thanks, - Canglesea (talk) 00:04, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Aerospace biography
[edit]Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:59, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- I have reviewed the articles and improved them to at least a C-class assessment. - Canglesea (talk) 04:46, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
- I have recorded the link for the 'best' version for each article available today. If anyone has some free time, Howard Hughes is the most problematic article on the list. - Canglesea (talk) 21:47, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
English aviators
[edit]I have been improving and adding info to some RAF officers and where appropriate adding the cat Category:English aviators. User:Kernel Saunters has removed it from Jeaffreson Greswell and added Category:Royal Air Force personnel of World War II and Category:British World War II pilots. As the later is a child category of British aviators Kernel Saunters says the it is absolutely pointless to list every English born pilot who served in the RAF in a general category as english aviators particularly when the RAF was British. Any thoughts, if english aviators is not for english aviators what is it for? Thanks MilborneOne (talk) 22:50, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Ronnie Nader
[edit]I've taken the liberty to tag Ronnie Nader of Ecuador to this task force after I had to protect the article due to edit warring over a lot of things starting from whether he should be considered an astronaut, a space tourist or what else.--Tikiwont (talk) 09:36, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles tagged by their banner enter a workflow such as Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, and Peer review (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found at here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features.
The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none
parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts".

GA Sweeps invitation
[edit]This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.
We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.
If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. With ~1,300 articles left to review, we would appreciate any editors that could contribute in helping to uphold the quality of GAs. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Neil Armstrong needs help
[edit]As we near the 40th anniversary of Apollo 11, the article on Neil Armstrong could use just a little work.
- Someone has tagged a few sentences "citation needed" - it would be great to get those cleaned-up.
- There seems to be a small discrepancy between Apollo 11 and Neil Armstrong concerning how much fuel the lunar lander had for landing.
Thanks for your help, JMG (talk) 07:30, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Aviation contest
[edit]As many of you are aware from the invitations I sent out, there is a new contest starting in the Aviation project. If I somehow missed you, check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest. I created this contest for, what is provisionally titled The Peter M. Bowers International Award For Meritorious Service in the Pursuit of Aviation Knowledge or PeMBoInAwMeSPAK, with the aim to motivate increased quality in aviation articles and improve participation in the Aviation WikiProject by offering a form of friendly competition for project members. We already have 20 members signed up, if you would like to take part you can sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the competition will start soon; if you can't take part, come out and help the competitors by assisting in their peer reviews, article promotions, etc. Hope to see you there! - Trevor MacInnis contribs 19:03, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement
[edit]This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:26, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
The New Georgia Encyclopedia ("NGE") has authorized Wikipedia to import and/or merge eleven articles, which I have copied to project space; one of these is Wikipedia:WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state)/New Georgia Encyclopedia/Charles Lindbergh (which focuses on Lindbergh's associations with Georgia).
If we are able to do a professional job of moving/merging these article into mainspace, the NGE will likely permit us to import their remaining body of over 2,200 well-researched and well-written articles, which could pioneer a trend for other private owners of encyclopedic content to release their materials into our corpus. I would deeply appreciate any help that we can muster in accomplishing this. Please note that the original NGE article (linked in the required attribution section of the above article in project space) has images, but NGE is unable to convey those to us at this time, as they are individually licensed by NGE. Cheers! bd2412 T 16:17, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Swoose Snead
[edit]I just found the Swoose Snead article, which is in dire need of help. It reads as if it were copied from an unofficial Navy or company bio, but has absolutely no souces. Also, we usually don't title bio articles by informal nicknames; even Kelly Johnson's bio is at his given name, Clarence Johnson. Any help with this article would be appreciated. - BilCat (talk) 21:39, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
The article appers to be a partial copyvio of this site, which site is copyrighted to Joel Jacobs, who is credited as writing the bio. There is an obituary from Wings of Gold here, which is probably usable as a reliable source. The article was uploaded by User:Cpheisey1 as his only edit, and appears to be Philip Heisey, Snead's son-in-law. - BilCat (talk) 22:01, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Out of uniform
[edit]Can we get uniform treatment of military bios? I've seen pages started with final rank & with no rank. (I default to no rank, since they weren't born with it.) I'm raising the issue here, also, but suggest it be discussed here, because this would appear to be the "lead project". Pageview stats
[edit]After a recent request, I added WikiProject Aviation/Aerospace biography task force to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Aerospace biography task force/Popular pages.
The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 22:52, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Commons Aviation Wikiproject
[edit]Several editors have decided to start a Commons Aviation WikiProject which is going to be devoted to aviation-related content on Commons; Commons:Commons:WikiProject_Aviation. Some of the main tasks for the project include maintaining and sorting aviation content, as well as working on obtaining permission from photographers to upload their photos to Commons, in addition to working on introducing photographers to Commons to get them to upload photos directly to Commons. There is a discussion at Commons:Commons_talk:WikiProject_Aviation at which we are trying to ascertain what the needs of the community-at-large are, so please feel free to join in the discussion. Also, if there are any project members who are willing to do some translation work for us that would be great. See Commons:Commons_talk:WikiProject_Aviation#Translations for more info. Also, anyone with scripting knowledge would be welcome, as there are some ideas which would require such expertise. Look forward to hearing from project members over on Commons with any ideas, etc. Please feel free to translate this message as needed. Cheers, Y u no be Russavia ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) 14:23, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Popular pages tool update
[edit]As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).
Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.
If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 04:49, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Popular pages report
[edit]We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Aerospace biography task force/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Aviation.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).
We're grateful to Mr.Z-man for his original Mr.Z-bot, and we wish his bot a happy robot retirement. Just as before, we hope the popular pages reports will aid you in understanding the reach of WikiProject Aviation, and what articles may be deserving of more attention. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us at m:User talk:Community Tech bot.
Warm regards, the Community Tech Team 17:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
[edit]Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? Proposed for deletion (PROD): Roger Adam
[edit]FYI, the article Advance for NPs & PAs has been proposed for deletion (WP:PROD). The first sentences summarize the subject thusly:
"Roger Adam was a French aircraft designer and manufacturer who produced light aircraft in kit from 1948 to 1955. He established the firm Etablissements Aeronautiques R. Adam."
The nominator wrote this summary of their concerns:
"Unsourced for over a decade. Only found trivial mentions in online databases, does not seem to be notable enough to pass WP:NBIO."
If you agree or disagree with deletion, there are instructions on the deletion notice for what to do.
