Stuff to add
[edit]I found a list on Module:Citation/CS1/Suggestions (a list of suggested alternatives to use when an unknown parameter is encountered by a citation template). Many of them aren't listed on Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Rename template parameters. Is it a good idea to add (some of) them to the list?

The Quixotic Potato (talk) 07:15, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
- @The Quixotic Potato: How about doing some insource searches to see how many of these actually exist? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:29, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
- As the person who added many of these parameters to the Suggestions list, I can tell you that I put them there because they show up all the time. I clean up articles in Category:Pages with citations using unsupported parameters almost every time I am on WP (6-7 days per week), and I suspect that on average, I find more than one article with one of these parameters in every day's edits. People copy and paste citations from fr.WP, es.WP, and other languages' Wikipedias, and I clean them up. If you are a geek and want some fun reading, take a look at User:Jonesey95/AutoEd/unnamed.js, the AutoEd script I use to replace these errant parameters. An insource search will not turn them up very often, because gnomes and error messages help to keep them cleaned up. Adding them to AWB's general fixes may make it easier for AWB-wielding gnomes to be part of the solution. – Jonesey95 (talk) 01:56, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
- Here's an example that appeared today. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:16, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95: You're right - I couldn't find many of these. I added this rule to the page today. Please feel free to add the more common ones. GoingBatty (talk) 13:54, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

@Trappist the monk: Is it a good idea to add (some of) the things mentioned above to Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Rename template parameters? The Quixotic Potato (talk) 07:26, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
- I don't think I have an opinion. I'm just an AWB user who constrains AWB to do only what I tell it to do (options in the Options -> Automatic changes always unchecked). I am not an AWB deveoper.
Renaming template parameters with specific values
[edit]Does the renaming template parameters functionality of AWB support filtering on parameter value? We want only the substitution disp=flip
→ order=flip
for templates {{convert}} and {{cvt}}.
No substitution should occur for other values of the parameter (e.g. disp=or
).
For context, this is preparatory to removing support in {{convert}} for this deprecated parameter use; also see discussion at Convert. Pinging DePiep, Johnuniq. —Quondum 16:53, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- No, that's not supported. Though creating an AWB custom module to do what you ask would not be difficult. Rjwilmsi 17:05, 7 January 2018 (UTC)
- Okay, thank you for the feedback. The consensus at template talk:convert seems to be to add the following cases for default AWB cleanup of usages of both {{convert}} and {{cvt}}:
- All instances of parameters
|sing=
should be replaced with|adj=
. (under 20,000 articles affected) - All instances of value-specific parameters
disp=flip
should be replaced withorder=flip
. (8,269 articles affected)
- All instances of parameters
- The first case is straightforward, but I'd prefer not to add it, as I have no experience of this and the potential impact is huge. I'd appreciate it if an old hand could do so. The second will need someone with experience to implement. —Quondum 03:07, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

I've taken the plunge and added the simple case for templates {{convert}} and {{cvt}} of |sing=
→ |adj=
. Rjwilmsi, any suggestions as to how I would go about the getting the replacement disp=flip
→ order=flip
implemented? —Quondum 03:05, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
"Multiple issues" section
[edit]Isn't the whole Multiple Issues section redundant now? It's configuring updates for the pre-2015 version of {{Multiple issues}} that uses separate parameters for each supported "issue". -- John of Reading (talk) 17:39, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- @John of Reading: Agreed - I just deleted the whole section. GoingBatty (talk) 03:13, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
Wikidata aliases
[edit]Would there be any objection to adding the {{Wikidata}} aliases {{Wd}}, {{WD}}, and {{WikiData}}? "Wd" and "WD" are less understandable to someone who comes across them in wikitext and "WikiData" is incorrect capitalization. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 06:28, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- I posted this to slightly the wrong talk page, but nevertheless Done per WP:SILENT. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 05:05, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose Save us from a hard work of distinguishing the same template. Making it shorter to write makes it harder to understand... AXONOV (talk) ⚑ 12:02, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- I think you may have misunderstood. The aliases have already existed for a while; what I did was to make it so that AutoWikiBrowser changes any instances of "Wd", "WD", and "WikiData" to "Wikidata". This standardizes around the clearer "Wikidata" form that you seem to prefer (as do I). Cheers, {{u|Sdkb}} talk 22:00, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
