A disappointment

There is a top box on this page, titled "Report all things on Phabricator!". Then saying "All new reports should be reported there". The link is to: [1]. (The phabricator logon page). When I login with my wiki name DePiep, it fails. On top of this: why should I login on a non-wiki site with my wiki-id??? -DePiep (talk) 21:43, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

It is a(Wikimedia Foundation) wiki-page. Just press the MediaWIki-button (the yellow with the flower) "login with MediaWiki-account" to Authorize it. (tJosve05a (c) 23:36, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

probably erroneous correction

Dunno if this qualifies as a bug, but on Wichita Linebacker AWB wants to change "John Enbom" to "John Embom"• Lingzhi(talk) 02:36, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

plus didn't catch charcaters --> characters on [[Final Fantasy]. • Lingzhi(talk) 02:54, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
@Lingzhi: The first issue doesn't qualify as a bug - it's an issue with the typo rules that AWB uses, which I have now fixed.
For the second issue, the rules don't catch every single typo. Since Final Fantasy is the only article that contains "charcaters", it doesn't warrant a new rule, so I just fixed the typo manually.
In the future, please drop a note at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Typos to discuss changes to the typo rules. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:12, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Incompatibility with Norton Internet Security

I have Norton Internet Security installed on my computer. When I installed AWB, Norton flagged most of the files as being a threat and deleted them. I was able to get around this by temporarily disabling Norton, but when I switched the computer back on this morning it went and deleted the files again. This essentially makes use of AWB impractical. Obviously something in those files is causing a false-positive (or maybe they really are infected). Can this be investigated and fixed please? Bazonka (talk) 07:54, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Bazonka since this is a Norton Internet Security problem why not ask them to fix it? -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:00, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
It might not be a Norton error. As far as I know, AWB could be genuinely buggy. It's certainly causing Norton to react in a way that doesn't happen with any other software I run. Bazonka (talk) 08:07, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
Bazonka we still have to ask them what they think the threat is. -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:22, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
I'll try again this evening and let you know the exact error messages. Has anyone else experienced this? Bazonka (talk) 08:43, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
Bazonka Yes. It has been reported it again in the past. -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:57, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
I've tried it again and Norton descibes AWB as being an "Insight Network Threat" and that "There are many indications that this file is untrustworthy and therefore not safe". Reading further into it, this essentially means that it has too few users from the Symantec community to be able to get a decent reputation score. To resolve this, the developers need to submit it to the White-Listing program. See [2]. I suggest that this is done. Regards, Bazonka (talk) 17:21, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
After finding a link that actually would let me submit a report, I have done so. You may wish to make a report to them yourselves, as a user at [3] actually providing version information. Reedy (talk) 12:58, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

I've just had exactly this problem. After a long online chat with tbeir service centre I didn't really get any more information than above. I have also submitted a false positive and allegedly they are going to reply within two working days. It may help if the developers contact them directly. I suspect that part of the problem may be the rapid rate at which the software is updated. Norton are treating it as a new item each time. SpinningSpark 19:21, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

If the developers add a digital signature to AWB it may help. I long time go I created a request on Phabricator to do this. --Racklever (talk) 19:35, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
I've just opened a bug report on Phabricator. If you can find your original request, it may help if you crosslink to it on the new bug report. SpinningSpark 19:41, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
Ah, found it myself Bug T105995 which has been merged with Bug T105972. SpinningSpark 19:47, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
I'm reluctant to just spend money on code signing certificates on a whim; they've not said this is the problem, though it's more of an issue with Windows 10. It's stupid free software has to pay money for this. I'd personally suggest vote with your feet, and not use "security" software with such questionable histories, poor support who won't tell you what's going on. I've contacted them before, and got little (useful) response back. Reedy (talk) 19:52, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
I'm not surprised you didn't get anywhere if you showed the same attitude that you showed to me in your responses at T152997. I did the work of contacting Norton, got a very helpful response, requested and obtained putting AWB on their whitelist, and provided you with a link where you could get future releases pre-approved for free. But even that is too much effort for you apparently. I give up, AWB is a basket case.
Norton's advice to software vendors is largely about digital signing. This is far more than a whim. Digital certificates are an industry wide standard and pretty universally recognised as good practice. If, in addition, you have a security software vendor telling you that lack of them is likely the cause of your problems then you should probably be doing it. Seems to me there is a good case there for a grant from the Foundation. Procrastinating about it is definitely not going to get you anywhere. SpinningSpark 16:17, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Despite the issue here, keep it constructive, please. AWB is not a basket case. It has proven useful for a wide variety of helpful purposes. Happy holidays. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:06, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Well I was referring more to the attitude of some of the devs than the software itself. I appreciate it is useful, that's why I use it. And excuse me, was fixing the problem with Norton not being constructive on my part? SpinningSpark 18:06, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
I was referring to the "basket case" remark. All constructive efforts are welcome. Maybe it's because I'm a former dev myself that I understand to an extent why they would prioritize things the way they do. I can see this issue as not being as important as others because a user can whitelist their app, like I have done with Avast. Ultimately a fix for this issue would be a wise course. In the meantime, it's not entirely devastating. Happy holidays - and I mean it. :) Stevie is the man! TalkWork 21:38, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Incorrect error correcting

Resolved

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Albanian_migration&diff=prev&oldid=688332825 Ottawahitech (talk) 14:19, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

Ottawahitech It was not done by AWB. AWB treats this right. -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:43, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
That may all be true, but on the bot's page, it says it runs AWB. I guess the user who runs it should be asked if they always use AWB for their edits. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 16:08, 31 October 2015 (UTC)
Stevietheman there is an exception of 3 errors that BG19bot does by using a different script which is (supposed to be) better than AWB. I already contacted Bgwhite. Ottawahitech did too. -- Magioladitis (talk) 17:13, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

@Ottawahitech and Stevietheman:

  1. The edit summary does not say AWB, so AWB didn't do it.
  2. User:BG19bot says at the bottom that this job runs with a python script. The page says, This user account is a bot that uses AutoWikiBrowser,... It does not say ONLY uses.
  3. The messed up section header was added by Ottawahitech on the edit before the bot's edit. This was detected by CheckWiki, which is how the bot was run on the article.
  4. Bot was not incorrect error correcting. No heading starts with just one "=" per WP:BADHEAD. This is an accessibility issue as the edit summary states. The bot correctly fixed this. The bot still left the section heading unbalanced.
  5. The section heading had two problems before the bot arrived and left the page with one problem.

AWB admins: Under what conditions should users receive a message saying that their AWB version is out of date and that they should download the newest stable version? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 22:52, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
GoingBatty, per Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/CheckPage/Version, 5.8.5.1 and SVN are the only two versions currently allowed. I suspect people aren't told to update till after they log in. Compiling one's own AWB does cause "issues" in knowing what the "little" people need to update. Bgwhite (talk) 05:20, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
At 6 feet 4 inches (193 cm) I'm not often referred to as a "little" person. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:58, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
Based on the two issues posted on this page, it seems like there would be an advantage to being told to update before logging in. Is there an advantage to logging in first before checking if an update is needed? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 12:57, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

unable to report errors on Phabricator

I tried to report a bug on Phabricator. I tried to login with my usual account as stated above. It rejected me saying I cannot have spaces in my username. How do we use our usual accounts if we have a space in our username? Surely the policy on usernames has to be consistent! Kerry (talk) 00:37, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Unable to Start - continually asks for new version of AWB

Suddenly a couple of days ago, AWB stopped working. I can build a list, then when I try to Start I select the logon and after a few seconds it gives me the following message:

"This version of AWB is not enables, please download the newest version. If you have the newest version, check that Wikipedia is online.
Please press "Yes" to run the AutoUpdater, ..."

So I press Yes and it updates. Then I start AWB again, and the same happens again. And again. I can't see another report of this, so maybe it's something strange about my configuration (Windows 8.1, Google Chrome Version 49.0.2623.112 m, AWB Version 5.8.5.1). --Gronk Oz (talk) 10:25, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

If you upgraded as an administrator then try to run as another regular user you've probably got your file permissions in a conflicted state. As the simplest way forward I suggest you download the latest AWB zip manually from sourceforge, unzip that to a new folder as the Windows user you will run AWB as, then run AutoWikiBrowser.exe from there, don't run the updater. If that all works you could manually copy over any plugins used from the old installation. I'm assuming you're running on your own machine rather than a work one that has restricted access. Another of our users also reports the same issue. -Chieftain Alex 21:44, 2 December 2016 (UTC)
Just a follow up FYI, we've found that our namespaces were configured incorrectly due to an extension, in this case Semantic Mediawiki 2.4.1 (we're about to patch up to 2.4.3) - the PHP error generated by the namespace problem appeared in the logs as "Notice: Undefined offset: [104|105] in ...\ApiQuerySiteinfo.php", which unsurprisingly breaks AWB because its searching for a namespace (in this case "104", Type) that hasn't been setup properly. I have no inside knowledge of AWB but standard procedure would be to log off your Wikipedia account (Hmains would click "log out"). Wait a few seconds. Log on to Wikipedia as normal. Caution: you do not have email enabled, so there is no way to recover if you have somehow set a password that you cannot enter to what the system expects. After confirming you can log off/on as a user, start AWB. If AWB says you are logged in, use AWB File, Logout. Then use AWB to log in using the new password that worked for the Wikipedia account (not an old password that AWB may have remembered). Johnuniq (talk) 04:55, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I did figure it out and thought I had updated this location. I had not. All is well again. Hmains (talk) 04:58, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
I had the same issue - "Logon Failed"/"Aborted". After trying hard with no success, I gave up on using AWB for many months before stumbling on to this page. Can someone change the message? It is driving away users (two examples here.)
Thanks.

AutoWikiBrowser has stopped working

I get the message AutoWikiBrowser has stopped working when I try to run it, Release 5880. --Dthomsen8 (talk) 15:50, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

@Dthomsen8: I just did a quick run and it appears to be working. Maybe some kind of temporary glitch in the API was afoot earlier? Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:21, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
I've been getting this message in a dialog box that appears for a second or two and suddenly closes every time I've tried to run it in Windows 8.1 for the past year or so. It still happens with the current release version (i.e., release 5900). Doesn't matter what directory I run it in, C:\ or otherwise. I have every feature in the the .NET framework 3.5 and ".NET framework 4.5 advanced services" enabled at the moment, although I've tried it with only the 3.5 features enabled and it still fails to run. I really have no clue what the problem is or how to work around it. The browser version of AWB unfortunately has much less functionality than the application, so I rarely use it.
This is a cropped image of my desktop with the AWB directory and the dialog box that I keep seeing when I try to run AWB. If anyone has any clue about how to fix this issue, I'd appreciate the help because I'd really like to use AWB again. Seppi333 (Insert ) 00:47, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Nevermind. It seems like this issue is caused by Windows registry errors since I've been able to use AWB again after reinstalling my OS earlier today. Seppi333 (Insert ) 01:57, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

Categories being skipped

I am processing a list categories to make some changes in the content. But some categories just get skipped and I must go manually edit them. The common feature of these categories is that the first line is a blank line. Is this a bug in the latest AWB? Hmains (talk) 06:12, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Hmains example? -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:45, 26 January 2017 (UTC)

Category:Road transport in India was skipped when processing a list of categories. I then manually changed it. Category:Road transport in Vietnam is an example that was correctly handled by the AWB process I was using. Hmains (talk) 03:42, 27 January 2017 (UTC)

Magioladitis any news? Hmains (talk) 03:40, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Hmains Apologies for the delay. I am busy IRL. I 'll try to check this tonight. -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:06, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Hmains can you please post your settings or send them to me by email? do you want ot make changes in the pages that are contained in the category or change the content of category itself? -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:49, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Magioladitis please specify what settings you mean and how to capture and send them. And this is a about categories within a list of categories being skipped. Thanks Hmains (talk) 17:08, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Hmains Just save the settings file you use so I can see if you have an skip conditions activated, what is the input in the source field, etc. You should save them in xlm file. -- Magioladitis (talk) 17:10, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Magioladitis Ok; I have the XML file. I am not set up to use WP email. So next? Hmains (talk) 17:34, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Hmains Post it in your sandbox or in a subpage so I can copy it. -- Magioladitis (talk) 17:37, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Magioladitis Ok; done at User:Hmains/sandbox Hmains (talk) 17:45, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Hmains If I am correct, some pages are categorised via templates instead of categories and AWB can't recognise them to rename them. The first page uses Stub Category. This is one of the reason I don't like categories generated by templates. You'll have to use a custom module that changes the value of a template parameter. -- Magioladitis (talk) 17:54, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Magioladitis my example above of Category:Road transport in India being skipped read as follows before I manually changed it: Indian road network Road transport in India Nothing seems to be unusual here Hmains (talk) 17:59, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Hmains You are right. It's a bug. Let's see if we can fix it. -- Magioladitis (talk) 18:08, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Magioladitis Category:Road transport in India is only one illustration of categories being skipped. I did not capture others, however; I just work around the problems. Hmains (talk) 18:14, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

Magioladitis when might this be fixed? Hmains (talk) 04:08, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

rev 12155 Fixed. In the meantime you can turn off the "only genfixes" skip check and perhaps enable "only whitespace changed" instead. Rjwilmsi 08:39, 25 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes, but any idea when rev 12155 will be in a AWB version for our use? Thanks Hmains (talk) 20:08, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

AVG

So, AVG decided that AWB was a virus, and closed and deleted the program while I was in the middle of going through a list of 7,800+ articles. This probably isn't normal. Alex|The|Whovian? 04:19, 6 February 2017 (UTC)

@AlexTheWhovian: I have had to whitelist the app's executable for Avast. I assume this would work for AVG as well. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 13:45, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

I could not report this at the new bug site because I can not log into the site using my Wikipedia user name and password :-). However I am not sure if a mistake in the AWB script counts as a bug. So I will report it here and let other decide. AWB finds dots after a citation needed template and removes the dot by default, but unlike with an in-line citation it does not put a dot before the citation needed.

The latest article I have come across where this occures is in the article Incest there is a dot after a citation needed: "and they are usually stripped of their last name[citation needed]."

-- PBS (talk) 08:14, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

AWB genfixes don't change that text for me. What AWB version do you have, do you have any custom find&replace rules etc.? Rjwilmsi 10:37, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the check. Whoops! My mistake. I had added a rule to deal with about 350 articles where the long citations used citation and for reasons only known to the editor who altered the articles to use citation appended a dot at the end of the long citation. I had assumed (wrongly)—not noticing the similarity regular expression pattern matching that citation and citation needed are actually quite similar—that this was a standard rule. As over the last couple of months I have seen about half a dozen cases of
This is a fantastical sentence[citation needed].
it would be a useful standard rule to introduce (along the lines of a ref tag pair before punctuation), however I'll leave that idea for other to follow up.

Possible Bug

Hello

I try to add only the orphan banner, checking manualy a category of pages. AWB works fine with finding if the page is orphan or not. But when i use the "Pre-parse mode", every pages are falsly detected and highlighted in green. Is there something to do ? --Archimëa (talk) 09:47, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Possible conflict with two-step verification

I'm not sure this is a proper bug, so I'm trying here, before opening a task on Phabricator: I have a problem in logging in to AWB with my main account since I've enabled the two-step verification (I'm admin on both it.wp and Wikidata). It doesn't just let me log in, it just gives me "aborted" as a message and that's it. I can log in as a bot though.

I've tried disabling the two-step verification, and it lets me log in without any problem, so I guess this is the problem. How can I fix it? Is there any suggestion or do I have to report this bug? --Sannita - not just another it.wiki sysop 11:49, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

AWB won't work and gives me a bunch of errors

Hey there! I'm from Turkey, so I'm connecting with VPN to here. Anyways, I have a problem with AWB in the last days. When try to run it, mirror windows appears and program won't let me log in. I'm using my computer in Turkish but these are the mirrors:

WikiFunctions.Parse.Parsers type initializer returned an exception

Failed to read data from transfer link: An existing connection was forcibly closed by a remote host

Base connection closed: Unexpected error occurred in submission

I translated the errors, so it's possible that there are mistakes, but why can't I run it, can someone please help me? ~ Z (m) 10:50, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

It's a network error, presumably related to your use of a VPN. If your browser requires specific proxy settings to use the VPN, AWB will pick these up from the defaults for Internet Explorer browser, so you may need to set up the VPN proxy there for AWB to work, even if you then use another web browser. Bots tab gone on nl.wikinews.org

A few weeks ago I used AWB on nl.wikinews.org and at that time I had a bots tab in AWB. Starting the same version of AWB up again, this tab has gone, only for nl.wikinews.org. The status of the account hasn't changed either: my botaccount has still a botbit. Using AWB also at nl.wikipedia.org, also with botaccount, there the bots tab still is present. Why is the bots tab missing on nl.wikinews.org and how can this be solved? (version 5.9.0.0, Windows 10) Thanks! Romaine (talk) 04:24, 18 August 2017 (UTC)

Has nl.wikinews.org made a change in relation to their AWB checkpage? Rjwilmsi 10:46, 18 August 2017 (UTC)
So far I know we do and did not have a AWB checkpage. Romaine (talk) 16:08, 18 August 2017 (UTC)

The same problem now occurs in Wikia (aka FANDOM). Logging in using AWB and a bot account used to work, but although the latest AWB still recognises the bot flag, it doesn't allow the Bots tag because the account supposedly is not an "approved" bot (so why does it have a bot flag?). — Korax1214 (talk) 09:24, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Please modify autotagger behavior for underlinked tag

Tracked on Phabricator: T112382. (tJosve05a (c) 12:00, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

The current behavior of this I believe tags for any pages with 1-3 links or based upon a percentage of the page. However, I think a check should be added to checks only pages above 100 words or something similar, since 1-3 tags seems like a bit high for pages with 1-2 sentence stubs. See here:

Thanks, Shaded0 (talk) 18:58, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

  • I was curious enough to dig through the svn project code to find this. Inside the file: autowikibrowser-code\AWB\WikiFunctions\Parse\Tagger.cs (Line no's: ~155-189). Probably just changing the boolean rules around "bool underlinked" to instead factor in word count.
Also I submitted a comment here: phabricator-T112382. If you have a process for creating PRs or something let me know and I'd be happy to help. To push an update to fix this, would you need to do a new version build i.e. 5.9.1.0?
Shaded0 (talk) 21:22, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
It might be good to exclude "standard appendices" when calculating word-count - i.e. See also, Further reading, References, External links etc. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 20:03, 21 February 2018 (UTC).

Possible bug : WikiFunctions.Parse.Parsers

Bug filed on Phabricator: T183686. (tJosve05a (c) 12:00, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Hello.

Before doing a false report at Phabricator, i would like to know if others users have this problem :

Since Friday, I'm unable to launch AWB. When loading, an error message stops the process : "error come with WikiFunctions.Parse.Parsers". After this, AWB takes a long time to load, with an error of loading time... Then the software is launched, but disabled or not working.

Does this problem come from my side -- I did'nt changed anything to my OS, any hadware or software changes, but Windows update only-- so i'm a bit surprised?

Does someone experience this problem too ? Is it a bug ?

Regards. --Archimëa (talk) 12:48, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Could be client-side; I was using AWB with no issues on Sunday (17 Dec). Primefac (talk) 14:05, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
Sounds like errors on start up due to being unable to connect to wiki, so could be internet connectivity or wiki API issue. Which wiki is it? Rjwilmsi 16:31, 19 December 2017 (UTC)
I have the same bug as Archimëa (same error, and then software doesn't work), and I'm also on fr.wikipedia.org. So it's maybe a fr.wp related issue? @Rjwilmsi and Primefac:. Kind regards, Jules78120 (talk) 20:02, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Bug in preview

When I preview a article that has an unknown template parameter, I see the expected warning message such as "Warning: Page using Template:Infobox website with unknown parameter "Video Personality" (this message is shown only in preview)." But if a parameter is used twice, I don't see a warning from preview within AWB but if I edit the article normally, preview gives something like "Warning: Audioholics is calling Template:Infobox website with more than one value for the "logo" parameter. Only the last value provided will be used. (Help)" Does anyone know anything about this? MB 00:29, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

The first type of warning is made by code in some templates, e.g. Infobox website using Module:Check for unknown parameters. The text is normal template output (apart from only occurring in preview) displayed in the place of the template call. It for example happens for .
The second type of warning is completely different. MediaWiki automatically makes the warning for all transclusions with duplicate arguments and displays it above the whole preview and a horizontal line. It was introduced at phab:T85352 and uses MediaWiki:Duplicate-args-warning. For example, Void does nothing but previewing will show the warning. Special:TrackingCategories has other features which also display a warning above the preview, e.g. triggering MediaWiki:Restricted-displaytitle. I guess AWB omits all such warnings. It's a matter of definition whether they are even part of the preview or just accompany the preview. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:38, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

query

I'm trying to run searches in AWB to find easily confused words to resolve. I think the search I was using was "Wiki search (text)" but that no longer gets any results. Have I accidentally changed the search I was using or has something disenabled that search. On a broader note we have "Wiki search (text) (all NS)" which does work, but that gets lots of talkpages which are littered with typos that I don't want to fix. I think it would be useful to have a search option that covers articles, drafts, portals and file descriptions. ϢereSpielChequers 09:43, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

@WereSpielChequers:: use the filter to reduce to only the namespaces you want. Having said that, the search function works for me, I think. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 23:28, 16 December 2018 (UTC).

Simple filter shows extra titles

Greetings, after upgrade to newest AWB, titles found after "Filter" include extras not matching the filter. For example: Make list / Category - Articles lacking in-text citations from November 2018 / Convert to talk pages / Filter / Keep titles containing ( Q ) / shows 5 results, 2 have "Q" as first letter, 3 do not. Old version of AWB worked ok. New version Filter includes extra pages. Wondering if there is something I'm missing here? Regards, JoeHebda (talk) 15:21, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

JoeHebda, all five have Q in their names though. If you wanted to keep only those starting with Q, you should filter to keep "Talk:Q". Primefac (talk) 15:44, 1 February 2019 (UTC) (please do not ping on reply)

The line in question is:

T233069 was recently filed mentioning changes to this file, so I'm guessing that's related.

I have removed my computer's username and operating system from the error description. Pkbwcgs (talk) 11:49, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

OK, message refers to a config file C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\AutoWikiBrowser\AutoWikiBrowser.exe_Url_g3fpjdrcx5ekiheabbu0lzc0y2crpjxh\5.10.1.0\user.config so please delete that and try again (AWB saves basic info such as last window size/position to a config file, that can safely be removed if errors such as these occur). Rjwilmsi 16:38, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
@Rjwilmsi: deleting the config, deleting the older and the file makes no difference. It seems to be weird about the site selection, doesn't like opening "Options > Preferences". Site default has changed for me, if I try to select another from the bottom system line, it throws complaints. If I login in, it complains and logs me into enWS, throwing up messages from enWS, though the system line says "Wikipedia" and the following problem is identified "The type initializer for 'WikiFunctions.Parse.SiteMatrix' threw an exception." — billinghurst sDrewth 09:00, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
Found out that my version was old, though the "check for updates" was telling me that nothing was required, so it didn't seem to know to update, and I didn't think that it was failing to know. — billinghurst sDrewth 14:26, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

You are using an outdated version (5.x). You need to update to version 6.x. — JJMC89(T·C) 02:58, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

Login issues

I changed my Wikipedia password yesterday, but now I can't log in with AWB. Note I use a 'GiantSnowman@AWB' account as I have 2FA and that password has not changed. GiantSnowman 18:06, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

Unsure if this is relevant, but when I try and log in to AWB as 'GiantSnowman' it says "Login failed - aborted", and when I try as 'GiantSnowman@AWB' it says 'Login failed - failed'. GiantSnowman 18:15, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: Just a guess, but you could try Wikipedia:Using AWB with 2FA#Resetting my AWB/Bot password. -- John of Reading (talk) 18:36, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Perfect, thank you! GiantSnowman 18:40, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
