Paper is held in Montreal here at McGill's Blackader-Lauterman library. If you happen to be nearer Seattle, the U of W Libraries have it on paper and microfilm according to this. Hi. We've got a copyright complaint that I can't investigate, as I can't access the article: [10] (Lutchmansingh, Larry D. Evolutionary Affinity in Arthur Mackmurdo's Botanical Design. 1990. 4th December 2011). The contributor has edited the article since it was flagged, but the person who added the flag - evidently his professor - did not remove it. It would be best if we could check it ourselves anyway. Can somebody access that article to compare it to Arthur Heygate Mackmurdo or help me get ahold of it so that I can? Wall Street Journal

[edit]
Resolved

This is a contentious BLP that has evidently been riddled with copy-pasting from news sources - the kind of story that attracts a lot of unfamiliar editors who may not know that they can't copy content here.

As expressed at the second link above, a contributor is concerned that the section under Buddy_Fletcher#Louisiana Pension Funds is copied from the Wall Street Journal, which is pay-per-view. Is anyone here a subscriber, able to access that article and just eyeball that paragraph against the source? All that we need to know is if it copied or substantially copies (close paraphrasing) the source to the point that the material needs to be rewritten or removed. Note that the paragraph has evolved a bit, but may still constitute a derivative work. An earlier version is visible at the BLPN thread.

Any assistance much appreciated. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:26, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for looking into this, Shrike. :) You must either be a subscriber, or your browser is really, really nice to you and kind of sneaky. :D I can't read it either. Can you find the information sourced to the article by any chance and compare them? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:03, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Here what I see does it whole [72]?--Shrike (talk) 12:08, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That helps a lot, thanks! It shows blatant copying, at least for most of the last two thirds of the paragraph in the article. Can you show us this source, too?--Bbb23 (talk) 12:15, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure that URL is right?BTW I only searched the article headline in Google and followed a link.--Shrike (talk) 12:24, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I copied it from the article (the editor keeps doing it wrong). It should be [73]. I tried searching based on this headline and couldn't find the complete article as you did.--Bbb23 (talk) 12:31, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Its very strange I am search using quotes and it gives me it as a first link nevertheless here it is [74]--Shrike (talk) 12:34, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you mean, a link to the WSJ, I get that, too, as the first Google hit, but then I hit up against the subscription issue. If you mean another site, I don't see it. Isn't Zoho some sort of place that you can share material with others? Aren't you posting the text to Zoho and then providing a link for us to see it (that's what I'm assuming, but I'm tired and doing this quickly)? In any event, thanks again for your help.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:22, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I mean link to WSJ maybe it have to do with my geolocation. The zoho its just a viewer that I use to share.--Shrike (talk) 13:33, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dunno, I assume it meant you were a subscriber. In any event, neither Moonriddengirl nor I can see the entire article when we link directly to it. Again, thanks for all your help.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:45, 26 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To narrow the page numbers down, search for individual words. The HathiTrust search won't do complicated search operations like AND, so you'll have to list the pages that match each keyword, then find the page numbers that are duplicated for each keyword. "Kerala" is found mostly in pp.97-117, but there are other hits. LeadSongDog come howl! 17:12, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is it possible to see a copy of this law journal article for possible use in Wikipedia? The article is Sexually Explicit Speech and Feminism, by Janis Searles. It's in Revista Juridica Universidad de Puerto Rico, vol. 63, pp. 471 ff., cited by lawyers as 63 Rev. Jur. U.P.R., starting at p. 471 (1994). The journal is in WorldCat with several variant journal titles, but they all share the first two words (Revista Juridica). I need the English version. It might be available in Lexis, Westlaw, or HeinOnline (approximate name), which are subscription databases. I didn't find it in Google, no library near me gets it in paper form, and the journal apparently has never been in a filled or stale request here and is not a shared resource here. Please, i need the big version of the OED-entry "Homintern". a) I can folow the term in print back to 1949, is there more? Or is there less and i should make a submission? b) are there different meanings, or one in OED? --Franz (Fg68at) de:Talk 20:33, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There is no such entry in OED website but they give it as one of the example for analogy and quote this phrase as in this book [[107]]--Shrike (talk) 21:09, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
THX. Then i need
  • W. H. Auden: "A Playboy of the Western World: St. Oscar, the Homintern Martyr" in Partisan Review, V. 17, No. 4, Apr. 1950
to check the meaning ("writers clique" or "gay community").
And it would be very nice if someone feel like to go through Partisan Review year 1940 (vol. 7) and 1941 (vol. 8), if there is an article from Auden (in Google Books i found only critics from books with Auden), and if so, see if he use there "homintern". I have some suggestions like "in a 1940/1941 issue of Partisan Review" but no clear evidence. The first i found is this from 1950. --Franz (Fg68at) de:Talk 22:03, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    • "Strikers go on rampage", May 31, 1969
    • "Curacao awaits poll in uneasy peace", August 5, 1969
    • "Curacao elections", June 4, 1969
    • "Truce to hold talks in Curacao", June 3, 1969
    • "Strikers threaten to burn town", June 2, 1969

I'm not sure how to link the Guardian articles, so I've just listed the titles and dates.

That's ISSN 0027-934X. Looking at worldcat it doesn't look like this is widely held by university libraries. However, one idea might be to ask on a genealogy forum: genealogists have services similar to the resource exchange where they'll do free lookups of information for each other. A directory of these lookup services is at: [175]. GabrielF (talk) 17:04, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so far. The NGS does offer online access to their archive to members, and sells full back issues if available. Hello learned people ! I'm translating into french the articles about Manfred Stern . The WP en article is said to "lack inline citations" . This is sad, particularly for the Herbert L. Matthews article "Canadian Leader Praises Spaniards" in The New York Times, December 12, 1936, which seems capital to me, as i think it rang Stern's first toll. But the NYT's archives are a maze to me. Could you give me a link to that article ? . I think the best would be to simply add the link to the article in Wp en. I don't know what chapter structure he has, but some relevant pages I've seen cited on the former are mostly 125-137, and then 149-166. On the latter, the relevant info should be around pp. 103-106.
