Hello I'm looking for a book review on You Don't Know Me by David Klass found at:

The online url doesn't work nor is it archived on IA. My Ebsco/Gale coverage also doesn't cover 2001 unfortunately. This is to expand You Don't Know Me (novel). Thank you. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 20:18, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Official Verbatim Report of the Parliamentary Debates of the Zambian National Assembly

[edit]

A bit of a tricky one this. I am using the Official Verbatim Reports from debates in the Zambian National Assembly to compile a list of MPs in Zambia since independence (see 1964–68 and 1969–73, which are now complete) and the ministerial positions held by said MPs so that I can complete the lists of ministers and create decent articles on every MP and minister (e.g. Sikota Wina).

Unfortunately there are several volumes that I have been unable to access via the British Library but some appear to be on Google Books, apparently in blocks of two (based on searches like this, it appears that there are two listings in each set – both of which I would like if possible). In many cases it is not clear what the page numbers are. However, at the start of every report there is a title page, followed by a list of ministers and then a list of constituency MPs. This is what I am ultimately after in order to get a full record of MPs and ministers.

The volumes I have not been able to access are:

  • mid-late 1973 (mid-1973 is here, showing a double listing (you may have to click on the search button again to make it appear)). I have the first volume of 1973 (January to March)
  • 1974 (mid-1974 here, another double listing)
  • 1975 (not searchable)
  • 1976 (mid-1976 here, another double listing)
  • 1977 – not on Google Books?
  • 1978 (here)
  • 1979 – not on Google Books?

If I can access these, then I can ensure that List of members of the National Assembly of Zambia (1973–78) and List of members of the National Assembly of Zambia (1978–83) are complete (I suspect they are currently missing any MPs elected in by-elections or replacement nominee MPs).

Hope that all makes sense. Cheers, Number 57 22:33, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Number 57, of the works that you have, do any indicate what the copyright status is? Some countries (but undoubtedly not all) would release such works into the public domain, and if that were the case here, Google Books might allow full view. --Usernameunique (talk) 05:27, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernameunique: Unfortunately I only took photos of the pages I needed, which don't contain the copyright detail... If it's helpful, I can get another edition out from the library to check, but I am currently overseas and won't be able to access the library until early May. Number 57 11:13, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Number 57 & Usernameunique, section 12.(2) of the Zambian Copyright and Performance Rights Act says government copyrights last for fifty years after publication. It's possible that the reports were and are public domain, but where the copyright law itself is copyrighted, it seems unlikely. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 16:24, 16 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I guess I an solve! Ordered it, but unsure if I get it. Wait for about two weeks.--Antemister (talk) 10:06, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Number 57 Got two volumes, I think (vol. 35) and a thin (vol. 36), both from 1974, they contain a list of the MPs, will copy them. Do you need additional lists exept the one for the 1978-1983 aparliament?--Antemister (talk) 15:50, 4 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Antemister: Apologies, I didn't get this ping for some reason. In terms of what I'm still missing (aside from the ones listed above from 1975–1978)):
  • 1978–1983 parliament – missing the entire first session (1979). Nothing between March and November 1982. Missing the first report from the fifth session (early 1983). Nothing after July 1983, but not sure if it was in session.
  • 1983–1988 parliament – possibly missing one between March 1984 and January 1985 (not sure if the NA was in session). I also have nothing between March 1985 and August 1986, and nothing after August 1986.
  • 1988–1991 parliament – I have nothing except June–August 1991 (third session resumed)
  • 1991–1996 parliament – missing the initial report from the second session (early 1993 I think) and I have nothing after August 1994.
Hope that all makes sense? Number 57 21:49, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Number 57, for the 1980s, the holdings become more incomplete: UB Bayreuth has 59.1982; 64.1983 - 65.1984; 67.1985; 71.1986; 74.1987 according to ZDB. Should I order, like before, the list of MPs?--Antemister (talk) 07:27, 6 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Number 57, apparently I have access to 1972-1978, but I'm about to leave town for an extended period and won't be able to visit that library until about mid-September. Feel free to contact me then. Zerotalk 02:35, 9 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, got those. I've left up the Montgomerie paper in case anyone can find it, but I fear Trocki may have made a mistake. In describing the history, Montgomerie himself [14] makes no mention of an 1832 paper. At the risk of outstaying my welcome, now that I have Trocki's bibliography, can I please request Trocki's sources:
  • Oxley, Thomas. "Gutta Percha." J. Indian Archipelago and East Asia 1 (1847): 22-9.
  • Buckley, An Anecdotal History of Old Times in Singapore, pp. 402-405. (This edition seems to align with the cited page numbers)

... also via Biodiversity Heritage Library, the National Library of Singapore, and there is a second edition available through Google Books. This may just be the most publicly available source in the world. Ha. — Pajz (talk) 14:36, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not seeing it on gbooks in anything other than snippet or no access at all. Can you provide a link please? Google makes it so much easier to search. SpinningSpark 14:45, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

JSTOR article in French

[edit]

This JSTOR article, written in French, must talks about M. N. Dvivedi (or 'Dwivedi'), a Indian writer (or more specifically 'a Gujarati writer'). I am able to see this article through my JSTOR subscription, but unable to download it. Also, I can't read French. Is there anyone who know french, and get this article, and can tell me what the article talks about M. N. Dwivedi ? Thanks. -Gazal world (talk) 19:06, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Gazal world: The article contains a single sentence about Dwivedi: "Sur l'idée de Dieu, la conception hindoue a été exposé par M. N. D'Vivedi." With my menu-French, I translate it as: "On the idea of God, the Hindu conception was explained by M. N. D'Vivedi". This is in the context of the Parliament of World Religions held at Chicago in 1893, where D'Vivedi evidently gave a talk about Hinduism. --Worldbruce (talk) 19:47, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

{{resolved}} This from the BMJ right at the top of the page shows a small piece signed "W. T. Clegg" that I'm interested in but I can't work out the article title because I have no access to the start of the article. The contents page says the previous article, "Sigmoidostomy simplified", starts on p. 66, but this article is by a different person and the procedure is the opposite end of the body to the trachea, so probably not what I am looking for.

@Worldbruce: Er, none of these are "freely available"; there is only a limited preview. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:26, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jo-Jo Eumerus: In my location the full text is freely available, as one would expect of a book from 1907. If you are in a country where it is not, but you believe it is out of copyright there, you can ask Google to make it available. When viewing whatever it is that you can view, follow a link that says, in effect, "Where's the rest of this book?", expand "You can't see the full book", and click "ask us to review it" to have Google review whether they can make the full view available, explaining on the next page why you believe it's now in the public domain in your country.
Page 13 is the right half of a 21-line table. Neither half of the table contains the words Negro or Francisco. There is a line for Laguna del Pelado, and another for Lagunas, but nothing that appears relevant to Laguna del Negro Francisco. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:26, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Winged Blades of Godric: As a matter of best practice, I don't think it is a good idea to extend threads ad infinitum with new requests, and would suggest instead that you create a new section once you realise at a later point that you need additional material from other works as well. Colonial Families of America, Volume 11

[edit]

{{stale}}

  • Colonial Families of America, Volume 11 [28]

I don’t know the page numbers but one page contains the passage: “Mary Pitman married, in 1883, Jack Ailau, a newspaper man. who died in 1893. She died, February 12, 1905, in...” I need all the pages relating to the Pitman family including any ancestors or descendants of Benjamin Pitman (Hawaii judge). Thanks, KAVEBEAR (talk) 05:11, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

KAVEBEAR, please provide more information on that volume. If you look at https://lccn.loc.gov/66018423, it says the work "Colonial families of the United States of America" has 7 volumes. https://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=61175 seems to make a similar suggestion ("This collection consists of the entire seven volume set of Colonial Families of the United States of America" ...). Perhaps it was continued at some point, but are you sure it was under what name? I couldn't find more information on a vol. 11. Maybe you can dig something up in the Library of Congress catalogue. — Pajz (talk) 21:30, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
