Wikipedia:WikiProject League of Copyeditors/Completed Articles Archive/August 2007

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Please move completed articles with a final proofread date that is at least one week old and in the current month to this page.

  1. Opus quadratum - I edited this to have idiomatic English (it looked like it had been babelfished!). I'm aware of other issues with it, such as the lack of references, but that wasn't flagged. As this was my first copyedit with the league, comments welcome. — Timothy (not Tim, dagnabbit!) 23:17, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done I made some more edits, but it shouldn't need further proofing unless content is expanded. Could benefit from some photos, perhaps! Good job, Timothy! SlackerMom 18:45, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Rock Springs Massacre - prior to its March GA nomination this article went through LoCE, since then it has undergone a major overhaul in FAC. Copy editing is essentially the only task left, my eyes have seen a lot of this page and I'm apt to overlook even glaring errors. The template is already on the talk page from March so you can add your sig to it. IvoShandor 12:03, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Mayan languages: Currently in FAC and one reviewer suggested we should put a shout out to you guys, though there is also another outstanding issue (citation, particularly in the history section). See the nomination here, also in-progress review comments at Talk:Mayan languages/Comments. Thanks. --Homunq 00:55, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No longer at FAC. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Love. Angel. Music. Baby.: At its FAC, several editors have stated that it needs to be looked over for POV, and one editor stated that it's "overridden with semicolon junctions and repetitions of initial adverbial phrases" and needs "greater sentence variation and syntactic easing". ShadowHalo 00:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No longer at FAC. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Anaximander: Since I helped a lot in writing the French article (a featured article), I thought I'd give a hand with its English counterpart. I think my English is fine, however I need someone to check the article for syntax, grammar, style conventions, or any typo that might have remained. (Didyaknow, after 2 zillions hours spent on a page, it totally disappears???) Any help in providing secondary references is also welcome. Thanks. — Robin des Bois ♘ 06:25, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Jeff Hanneman Not very long, lead, style and influence, and personal life sections need some attention, Thanks. M3tal H3ad 08:10, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  7. The Wicker Man (2006 film)-copyedit completed....ready for final proofread...Gprince007 13:18, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Hakata ningyō - A short article, but my biggest edit so far. Noticed that there was lots of plagiarism, which I fixed at the same time. Clockwork 04:40, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  9. Shuttle-Mir Program Currently a FAC, some objections were raised to the article, with most being solved by myself leaving only prose issues for completion. As I have pretty much rewritten the entire article from scratch, a fresh set of eyes would probably make a better job of sorting it than mine, and, as such, a copyedit would be very much appreciated in order to jump this final hurdle. Colds7ream 21:58, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Article moved to this section as it is no longer an FAC. Epbr123 16:27, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  10. Athirappilly Falls:This one is short and shouldn't take long. In addition to copyediting, I did some re-writing, checked references, added some verifiable data, and added conversion templates. Finetooth 23:42, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done Only made minor proofing changes and moved an image for better presentation. SlackerMom 18:08, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  11. American History X—Preceding unsigned comment added by Balloonguy (talkcontribs)
  12. Styracosaurus Current GA candidate which may need copyedits. Firsfron of Ronchester 03:45, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  13. Ancash Region --Otheus 14:21, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Geography section seems to have been copied word-for-word from http://www.movicorpsa.com/ancash.php. I did not complete my proofing, and I added a possible copyright violation notice to the Geography section. Finetooth 20:03, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was mistaken, and I have removed the possible violation notice. It appears that the material at the movicorpsa site was copied from Wikipedia and not the other way round. I will be more careful about this cloning possibility in the future. I hope to complete my proofing later today. Finetooth 20:11, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think you would serve the Internet community and this project well if you notified the webmaster that they're in violation for not displaying the GPL license. GNU-licensed content, like articles on Wikipedia, can be copied, but they still must carry the notice of the license. Or they could at least note that it's from Wikipedia. --Otheus 00:56, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done I made many changes to syntax, added two references, deleted redundant wiki links, and discussed these changes with one of the recent authors. I will look into the licensing issues, with which I am unfamiliar. Finetooth 04:48, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  14. Anti-Fairies (The Fairly OddParents)- My main concern is that I spelled 'Fairy' as 'Farie' a few times.--Song 21:22, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done I had to do a fair bit of restructuring and copyediting in the proof, but I think it's all done now. Cricketgirl 01:20, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  15. Multiface:I've copyedited, wikified and clarified a few things for those unfamiliar with the topic. Further comments welcome. — Timotab Timothy (not Tim, dagnabbit!) 00:52, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. An easy proof. Cricketgirl 01:33, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  16. Miranda Otto: This article about the Australian actress has been greatly expanded and I would like to nominate it for FA status soon, but would like it to go through a copy edit before it nominate it. Thanks!
I had a look at this and it seems pretty good to me. I made a minor correction.— Timotab Timothy (not Tim, dagnabbit!) 14:24, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done hardly any changes on proof. Cricketgirl 02:16, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  17. Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest: This is in a peer review right now, with the intention of soon going for GA Update: Reached GA, but could still use some proofreading. It could use some spiffing up of the prose, since I've essentially done this one my own, and no expansion pack has ever reached GA before.--Clyde (talk) 00:00, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
done, and notified on your talk page --carelesshx talk 17:01, 3 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done easy proof. Cricketgirl 03:00, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  18. 1968 Red Square demonstration-a small article which may need expansion by people who know something about it....Gprince007 15:27, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done Another nice short easy proof! Cricketgirl 03:09, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  19. Necessary and sufficient conditions - Besides cleaning up mark-up and language, I replaced some examples and added some add'l substantive material. This is my first copyedit here in the league. Hope I didn't get carried away! PaulTanenbaum 00:25, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done no changes needed at all. Cricketgirl 06:01, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  20. Enter the Fat Dragon - A pretty empty article before I edited it. Had no external links + poor grammar. Fixed grammar, added more plot, added external links. All I need now is a proofreading. Erythromycin 00:21, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done no change needed. Cricketgirl 06:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  21. 1971 Bangladesh atrocities --Otheus 14:32, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done SlackerMom 17:40, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  22. Humanistic sociology --Otheus 14:41, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done SlackerMom 04:03, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  23. Sky Blue Sky The main concern at the FAC is that I'm not writing at a professional standard. I'm in the scientific field, so while I'm extremely good at writing NPOV, it makes for some boring prose. I would appreciate any help that you guys could offer. Teemu08 03:58, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
copy-edited (pretty light work), ready for proof. Cricketgirl 03:51, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done proofread completed. Gprince007 10:02, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  24. Comte de Lautréamont - picked this off the backlog, needs a final proof. Oopsadoodle 23:41, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done proofread completed, although several concerns still about content of article (on talk page). Cricketgirl 13:41, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  25. Derby Lunatic Fringe I'm not sure how to approach this article about football hooligans. It might be a fun read, though, if you enjoy reading about the flower of England's imbeciles. Rintrah 20:08, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done The article is interesting but lacks attribution. Finetooth 22:21, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  26. Xinghua Campaign, Way too overlinked (for example communist was an internal link throughout the entire article). I did the best I could. Cremepuff222 (talk, sign book) 00:04, 11 March 2007 (UTC). Round 2 I did some to it, removing a lot of redundant verbage and eliminating POV ("the enemy"), and normalizing capitalization. Note: BRITISH SPELLING. --Otheus 14:42, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done. Cricketgirl 13:25, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  27. Activism at Ohio Wesleyan University I would like to get some help to improve the grammar and prose of the article. LaSaltarella 05:10, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Few recent edits and tag was removed. Ready to proof. --Sigma 7 05:06, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done. Cricketgirl 13:56, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  28. Lucien Durosoir ready for proof, concerned that some of the sentences dealing with music terminology are still a bit messy. - Oopsadoodle 19:59, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done Cricketgirl 14:06, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  29. Leonard Orban, European Commissioner for Multilingualism. - I have written the article almost by myself and I am not a native speaker of English. --Michkalas 22:26, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    Proofread. -Dalobuca 22:29, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  30. Dirty Duck (film) is currently a GA nominee. Would like some help making sure it's up to GA quality. (Ibaranoff24 20:54, 19 April 2007 (UTC))[reply]
    a pretty light copy-ed. Cricketgirl 22:18, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done Finetooth 21:08, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  31. Battle of Wisconsin Heights - Pretty easy stuff. See talk page for biggest worries of previous editors. Cricketgirl 13:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done As mentioned in the article's talk page. Dalobuca 01:13, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  32. Kammerlader, Krag-Petersson, Jarmann M1884 and Krag-Jørgensen; all written mostly by myself, and would probaly benefit if someone with a better grasp of English than myself. Thanks! WegianWarrior 20:45, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    1. All four have no quickly visible problems or tags. --Sigma 7 05:16, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done. All easy. Cricketgirl 07:25, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  33. Multi-scale fingerboard Did the best I could with this. Probably could use a look from someone more familiar with the subject Vgranucci 02:43, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done. Cricketgirl 07:51, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  34. Polish cochineal - article written by a non-native English speaker. Copy-edit has been recommended during peer review. Kpalion 19:28, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    1. Okay for final... --Sigma 7 23:18, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done Nice article with few errors of any sort. Finetooth 23:15, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  35. Back to the Future- Pretty good article, didn't find much wrong with it. Give it a skim, that should probably do it. There's a lot of material to cover, which is why I'm putting it here.--Song 06:51, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     DoneDalobuca 15:47, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  36. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi - FAC has been halted because of issues explained at Talk:Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi#FAC. This article needs a thorough copyedit, among other issues. Sjones23 22:21, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just completed a pretty lengthy copy edit, which included extensive cleanup of wiklinks, some style standardization, lots of edits for clarity, and a few factual corrections. I think it needs to be gone over again before being given a final proofread. —beverson 07:30, 23 June 2007 (UTC) - A copyedit has been made for FAC and this discussion is at Talk:Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi#FAC. Greg Jones II 21:58, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done It was easy to read, and it seemed neutral and encyclopedic to me. —Dalobuca 19:58, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  37. Kimono-copyediting completed, still some issues with sources/POV. ready for proofread! Eliz81 11:23, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done. Cricketgirl 18:28, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  38. Henri Toivonen — The article is entirely written by a non-native English speaker. As the peer review went through without non-bot suggestions, I have no idea how bad the prose is. I'm hoping to see this promoted to at least GA. Prolog 14:15, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Has this really been here since February?! I'll have a go, although I'm not an official copyeditor! 4u1e 09:53, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Guess so. It looks like you did a good job for the article.
     Done. Cricketgirl 13:04, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  39. I've just finished my second major copy-edit. I found the Freedom of the press in Italy a challenge. Could someone please proof read it for me to make sure it is okay. Also if you have any feedback on how I can improve my copy-edits could you please leave it on my talkpage? Is this the correct place to ask for a proof read? Thank you Mehmet Karatay 21:48, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
this had already been  Done but was worth the extra check. Has a bunch of Italian at the bottom, commented out, translation welcome! Cricketgirl 14:58, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  40. Eugenio Espejo: This article is currently on peer review, with the intent of changing its status from B-class article to Good Article. It has lots of grammar mistakes. Any comments about it are welcome. Dalobuca 01:20, 13 March 2007 (UTC) No longer on peer review; still needs copy editing. Checking out its talk page might be useful to copy editors. Dalobuca 0:45, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I made many small changes to grammar, syntax, and punctuation but did not mess with structure. Finetooth 00:48, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done. Cricketgirl 16:44, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  41. Shareef Abdur-Rahim: recently turned GA, just want to ensure everything is tight enough to sustain the GA status, thanks. Chensiyuan 22:53, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I will work on this article in the near future. --Kenneth M Burke 17:04, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unsure: What the "third overall pick" in the second and third lines of the Atlanta Hawks section refers to, Rahim or the group of players? Awkward wording. This was a first copyediting of mine for the league, hope its satisfactory enough. --Kenneth M Burke 00:40, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. An easy proof - nice work Kenneth. Cricketgirl 05:30, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  42. Holden The article has had a massive overhaul in the past few months, and I feel that it needs someone unfamiliar with the wording to copyedit the text. OSX (talkcontributions) 00:03, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I made many small changes meant to improve concision and clarity. I added a couple of wiki links for automotive terms such as "rebadged," and I tried to substitute plain language for jargon or terms that seemed more promotional than descriptive. In general, the article seems quite well-written. Finetooth 00:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
     Done. Cricketgirl 06:57, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  43. (From talk page)Could you please help me to wikify the references of Alvaro Uribe. Most references are external links like "[1]" and not like "[1]".Thanks,--Ricardo Ramírez 19:56, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    The article is now copy-edited to my satisfaction. -Pgan002 03:47, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Proof-read up to the "International Relations" section. Cricketgirl 07:34, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. The last section has a huge amount of "who?" tags which could do with attention... -Cricketgirl 08:47, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  44. Švėtė Took a fair bit of restructuring, and I'm still not sure about the river/River issue. Short. Cricketgirl 14:23, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done Had a few free minutes, so I thought I'd pop in and edit. BTW, Chicago MOS says to capitalize River when part of the name and lowercase when a number or list of rivers is named, so I followed that convention here. Galena11 16:22, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  45. Hayley Westenra Article has been placed on hold for GA pending another copy edit due to failing the well written prose requirement. Andrew D White 03:09, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    ready for proof. Cricketgirl 06:51, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Michael Schumacher -- 83k size article (including references). Needs proofreading. See my notes on talk page below the LoCE banner. --Otheus 14:03, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Over 400 edits have been made since proofread was requested. This one needs to stabilize before it's worth the time spent to proof it. SlackerMom 17:35, 7 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oklahoma City bombing: (Copied from talk page) I would like to request that a member or two here please review the article. It is currently in GAC and I just want somebody to look through some of my sentence structure, grammar, and the lead section. I believe the lead intro section could use some work (I put details out of order as it is in the article, don't know if that is acceptable). Even if you tell me how to fix any mistakes, that would be fine. If anyone here would be able to assist, I'd appreciate it greatly. --Nehrams2020 09:02, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    Taking a look. Otheus 12:51, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not too many technical problems, but overall, the lead is too big and filled with detail. I've cut it down a bit. I believe the order of the lead is the most important order; the organization of the article should generally follow it, but definitely not the other way around. (IMNSHO) --Otheus 13:18, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Re-worked the lead and first two sections. Otheus 14:23, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
