Description
[edit]A WikiProject aiming to increase the coverage of restaurants and related topics on Wikipedia.
There was a task force by WikiProject Food and drink that did something similar; the Foodservice taskforce. This proved to be too broad for a mere task force and is now in a state of perpetual inactivity.
I propose this topic is broad enough to become a fully-fledged WikiProject. The topic is too broad for a single task force. dibbydib boop or snoop 03:38, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Support
[edit]Also, specify whether or not you would join the project.
- As nom. Of course, if this is successful I'll wholeheartedly contribute to this WikiProject. dibbydib boop or snoop 03:38, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Restaurants is one of the few topics in which I would claim any expertise, so I'm happy to support this and try to play an active part if and when, and in whatever format, the project takes off. Please keep me posted. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:12, 22 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- This is a great idea, something like this is needed on Wikipedia. I would join if this were to become a WikiProject, I can help with local stuff or chains. Keep me informed. -- Dswitz10734 (talk) 00:02, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- Just stumbled across this proposal. I'm surprised why this wasn't already a WikiProject, considering when many other niches are. I would definitely support this and be an active editor. JackFromWisconsin (talk | contribs) 19:43, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
[edit]User:Dibbydib, WikiProjects (the groups themselves) are usually not successful when a lone editor wants to create one. Have you considered alternatives such as a task force, joining an existing group with a related scope, working informally or the other recommendations at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Guide#Before you begin? WhatamIdoing (talk) 22:51, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
User:Dibbydib, this project seems to be gaining momentum. I would continue with this idea and propose this idea to similar projects, their editors may be willing to help. I wish you the best of luck! Dswitz10734 (talk) 00:05, 20 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Dibbydib, DoubleGrazing, Dswitz10734 and JackFromWisconsin: usually, 5 or 6 people is generally used as the treshold for closing a wikiproject proposal as successful. This proposal has been open for more than a year, but you are quite close to having the project created... So, are all four of you still interested? Do you think you can get a few more people to give their support, perhaps by doing some advertising among people who frequently edit related pages? Otherwise, might it be an option to instead revive and revise the "Foodservice" taskforce of wikiproject "Food & drink" as the "Restaurants" taskforce? - Oppose: The proposed project's has been a proposal for 16 months, and yet only attracted 3 editors (outside of the nominator, of course). The scope is also too narrow. It is a better idea to work in the already created taskforce or working on already made WikiProjects, like WikiProject Food and drink or WikiProject Companies. You say you are aware of them, but then why are you trying to start a new WikiProject. The point of a WikiProject is not to be something that only 1 editor in 5 months joins and that focuses on very few articles that are perfectly covered by current WikiProjects and taskforces.

- I think it would make sense to close this as unsuccessful. A WikiProject is a group of editors, and there is no clear evidence that a group of editors has emerged. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:18, 3 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @WhatamIdoing I'm still here, and I still support this project. Dswitz10734 (talk) 16:51, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, but you aren't six or eight or ten people. A WikiProject is a group of people. One person is not a group. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:15, 4 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
