[edit]Discussion
[edit]May I suggest changing the name to WikiProject:East Anglia. Neither Essex and Cambridgeshire have projects at the moment, the wider scope would gain a larger catchment area for members. The four counties could be subdivided into task forces for a more concentrated effort. MortimerCat (talk) 08:22, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- That sounds like a good idea. Jolly Ω Janner 12:19, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Seconded - though it might be safer to call it Wikiproject:Eastern England. There's a long history of fruitless debate over whether Essex and Cambridgeshire should be included in East Anglia. Barnabypage (talk) 12:24, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- The original suggestion was for a Norfolk and Suffolk project so I say stick with East Anglia to start the project. Whether to include Essex and Cambridgeshire can be the projects first debate! MortimerCat (talk) 12:59, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I originally wanted to start a Norfolk project, I have now included Suffolk. I did muse over "East Anglia" but as that historically "East Anglia" only included Norfolk and Suffolk (the north and south folk of the East Angles) until recent times and I did not wish it to become a project that was too big for the small amount of editors that would be involved.
- I have included both as they share many things, mainly the broads, the river Yare and historically the Angles.
- There were/are discussions on starting a project for each county (see Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_England section "WikiProjects for Counties") and so at the moment it was logical to go ahead and create the Norfolk and Suffolk and to let others create the other county projects, such as Cambrigeshire, Lincolnshire or Essex etc as per the Project England proposals.--Chaosdruid (talk) 17:35, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I think the idea of having a project dedicated to WikiProject:East Anglia or Wikiproject:Eastern England is to large subject matter. I think that Norfolk and Suffolk is a big enough project alone without adding more counties. I myself would rather see a WikiProject:Norfolk and a WikiProject:Suffolk as I think there is more than enough subject matter to constitute there own dedicated projects. stavros1 ♣ 22:21 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- We also need to consider the number editors who would be actively involved. My home county Wikipedia:WikiProject Sussex combines two counties, East and West Sussex, but months go by without any activity. MortimerCat (talk) 00:09, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- I'd have said East Anglia for the title as it covers Norfolk and Suffolk without issues of which goes first (Norfolk obviously, but we don't want the tractor boys etc to feel put upon). My understanding of the periphery is that only parts of Modern Essex and Cambridgeshire would count - to quote an encyclopadia "It consists of the historic counties of Norfolk and Suffolk and parts of Cambridgeshire and Essex,". My geography teacher had the eastern edge around March. GraemeLeggett (talk) 22:20, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I think we are all agreed that a Norfolk project is required. The question is should it be "Norfolk", "Norfolk & Suffolk", "East Anglia" or "Eastern England". I suggest we take this discussion at Talk:Norfolk. MortimerCat (talk) 00:09, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- I'd argue that two separate counties should have two separate wikiprojects, one for Norfolk and one for Suffolk. jenuk1985 (talk) 13:56, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- I'd be willing to set up an assessment page for the WikiProject similar to that of WikiProject Devon's. Jolly Ω Janner 23:52, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the comments so far as well as the support !
- Jolly Janner - I'll be in touch over the next couple of weeks a lot, if you have the time, more on your chat page.
- Jenuk - I agree with you, it would be best if that could happen, however I feel that including both is a better choice - I am open to persuasion tho lol!
- Mortimer - I will create a separate chat page (here) for discussion on this matter and link in to the pages you mention, that way we will keep all informed without repeating work such as copying over comments etc. However I would yet again say that the proposals on the Project England page was for a separate project for each county.
- Thanks all--Chaosdruid (talk) 03:36, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Belated support, with a preference for including Suffolk and Cambs as well - neither is so big that they'd be viable on their own, and it's not like there's a great deal of difference between the three. If you want a quick-and-dirty way to rustle up potential members, it might be worth spamming Category:Wikipedian Norwich City F.C. fans. – iridescent 23:30, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
