Designbox
I would like to ask that the Designbox article be considered for un-deletion. The reason given for deletion was that it may not be notable enough. I believe that it is noteworthy software and should be included, citing the following reasons --
1. Designbox is an add-in product for Microsoft's Visual Studio and is listed as an add-in in the List of Visual Studio Add-ins section of Wikipedia. No add-in product will be as noteworthy as stand-alone applications, but within the Visual Studio product space, Designbox is a noted product with recognition by Microsoft, ComponentOne, Infragistics, et. al., as well as the user community. I can include additional links/references to community material if needed.
2. Designbox is a living product with an active user community. The product is actively maintained and marketed and kept up-to-date with the latest enhancements in Visual Studio. I'm not sure what metric could help here in judging noteworthiness -- but we have a large set of users that value the software and the company behind it is growing each day.
3. Designbox is functionally interesting. Designbox enables programmers and UI designers to use a novel, new approach to designing their applications. It has been recognized as innovative within the Visual Studio developer community. Quotes and links are available.
With the above statements in mind, please re-consider Designbox for inclusion. I would also be interested in suggestions for improvement for the article as well as a better understanding about what metrics/processes are used to judge notabilty so that I can attempt to address them in my edits. -Joegra (talk) 12:50, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Barcade
This article was proposed for deletion around the Christmas holiday. There is no "concern" listed as to why it was proposed for deletion. Barcade is a famous bar in Brooklyn, NY, established in 2004, with new locations about to open in Jersey City, NJ and Philadelphia, PA. Barcade is listed in nearly every guide book to New York City and has been featured in national press too many times to cite. Mir Asedullah Quadri
The article was deleted due to misunderstanding -Sparrow78677 (talk) 00:00, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
Dear Administrator,
This is regarding the article of "Shaikh Mir Asedullah Shah Quadri" which is due to be deleted in seven days. I have gone thoroughly through the article and I think this deletion is nothing but a simple mis-understanding. Shaikh Mir Asedullah Shah Quadri is a world renowned scholar of Islam his innumerable achievements are all over the internet. The editor who has put the article for deletion says that there are no third party references and asks for newspaper articles on the Shaikh. But the thing is that the work Shaikh Quadri has done is thoroughly based on the Internet. He has thousands of followers on the internet, you can just Google him if you want to know. But still agreeing with the editor, the original writer of the article sent him 39 third party references which includes personnel letters written to the Shaikh himself by many world renown scholars belonging to different school of thoughts and plenty of references from different reputed organizations have also been posted quoting Shaikh's references from their official websites. I request you to go through the whole discussion page of the article and check each and every reference posted thoroughly so that you can decide for yourself. Personally I think the editor is being too rash here. I mean he is not properly checking our references and is deleting our article in 15 minutes of our posting. Now he has put the article on deletion and it will be deleted within 7 days. Therefore, I request you to go through the article as soon as possible before it is too late. If you think there is any problem with it, then I would be glad to help but please at least remove the seven day timer from it. If you have any questions or queries, please ask. This is my personnel email 'jack78677@gmail.com'. The purpose behind this 'Request for undeletion' is not to complain about the editor but to clear a simple mis understanding. The debate on the article has been going on for quite a while now. I hope you are the one that will end it.
Thank You
- The article has not been deleted, but is being discussed at WP:Articles for deletion/Mir Asedullah Quadri, and that is where you should comment. Even if it is deleted, this page would not be the place to challenge that decision: that would have to be done at WP:Deletion review. JohnCD (talk) 14:02, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- Per a wide body of probably nearly a dozen neutral editors who came to check out the controversy, it was noted that absolutely none of the 39 (later 52) references provided met WP:RS by any stretch of the imagination. They were all either from sites belonging to/affiliated with the subject, Facebook, blogs, forums, WP mirrors, data-dump sites, etc. There was not a single scholarly publication, news article, or even tangential mention whatsoever in anything meeting WP:RS. The complainant and his compatriots steadfastly, resolutely refused to read or respond to WP:RS, and then a half-dozen of "them" were banned as sockpuppets. Kento Holding
After creating the article an administrator said it is for deletion, unless I put the "Hold-up" mark into the article which I did immediately. Then I explained on the Kento Holding discussion page the reason of the importance of the company, but without success. The discussion page was also immediately deleted. I am asking myself why was it suggested to start a discussion and later to be deleted? My reasons of keeping the article are that the owner of the company is Isabel dos Santos, the daughter of José Eduardo dos Santos, President of Angola. There are many reports about corruption in this country. How can it be, that the daughter of the Angolan president is one of the richest persons in Angola, while the State Bank of Angola is searching for billions of Dollars which have disappeared during the last years? It is an important issue all about the booming economy in this African state. Nearly everybody in Angola and Portugal are aware of these facts. There is no website of this company, yes. But that is not a proof of unimportance of a company who deals with billions of Dollars taken from the oil revenues there.--Cruks2010(talk) 17:04, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
- Not done. The notice on your talk page warned that "once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay." Your article only said that the company was registered in Valletta and was owned by Ms dos Santos, and the only sources were two reports of a transaction in which it bought shares in another company. To have a Wikipedia article a company, or any other subject, must be notable which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Just being owned by a notable person does not make this company notable.
- Also, your explanation above suggests that this article is intended as a coatrack for allegations of corruption in Angola. If those allegations are to be made, they would be better made in Ms dos Santos' article rather than indirectly, but in any case you would have to adhere strictly to the standards explained at WP:Biographies of living persons, WP:Neutral point of view, WP:Verifiability and Wikipedia is not a soapbox. JohnCD (talk) 22:01, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hello JohnCD, thanks for answering. I see now, that at the English Wikipedia, in contrast to the German and Portuguese WP, is measured with two different criteria.--Cruks2011(talk) 11:43, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
Sterling Winfield
incorrect assumption?
I recently searched Sterling Winfield for a bio review. Notes on his page deletion claim that he is not a 'producer' or some such reason that I do not understand. He continues to be a prodigeous producer and master of musical technology. His credits on hundreds of songs and albums speak to that. I am not familiar with the wikipedia editing process, however, I would dearly love to see the page restored or to be provided info on an acceptable process for future contributions in his honor.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter

I will notify user Bearcat (talk), who proposed it, in case he wishes to nominate it at WP:Articles for deletion. The problem with the article is that it gives no references to verify what it says. I will notify user Eclipsed (talk), who proposed it, in case they wishes to nominate it at WP:Articles for deletion. The notability requirement is to show "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject"; at present the only references cited are the school's own website and the affiliated www.sunset.cc. I have trimmed from the article unencyclopedic detail such as lists of staff and former staff, which are more suited to the school's own website than to an encyclopedia article. Pivit
Admin's stated reason for deletion was that the band's 3 albums may not have been released by a major label. That shouldn't be an issue, there are many pages on Wikipedia for albums on independent labels. I can understand if there was worry as to whether or not they had been released on any label, but a quick look at Amazon would reveal the label these records were released on as Red Eye. Pivit was a band big enough to have a few music videos and a good-sized following, along with being featured on the soundtracks for the PC versions of the Crazy Taxi series of video games. The entry 5grs has been removed immediately, without 'speedy deletion' or any prior warning. The reason of deletion the respective admin had provided was A7: Article about a band, singer, musician, or musical ensemble that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject (CSDH) without meeting the requirement of A7 directives. 5grs band is the one and only Heavy Metal band with proper and wide underground publication and franchise inside their country while they're living and working in there, the only band with female vocal in Iran, and among very few bands from Iran to perform in several international Rock/metal festivals. They had several interviews with major media like BBC, and was featured in several magazines. They of course don't have record label deal while official publication of Rock music is illegal in their country. Ontario Student Debate Union (OSDU)
I renamed my page to many times. I would ideally like a copy of the page please. I was attempting to make my page live( become a active wiki page) but I renamed the page two many times. First I renamed the page like I was instructed from a tile with my user name at the front to one that was just the organizations name. I attempted to find the page through the search bar but it did not work, so I assumed I had made an error when changing the page title, and attempted to change it again. I had a difficult time understanding the instructions and then labeled it with"user" at the front of the title, thinking it would work.(clearly that was stupid in retrospect). Lastly I tried to rename it the original name listed above. I apologize for creating this problem. The page is for a non- profit organization that facilitates High School debate in Ontario. I am okay if you decide it should stay deleted but I did not make a copy of the page before it was deleted and there were many links I added that I do not have copies of. If at all possible I would just like a copy of the page I had created. File:Florida Gators logo.svg
Please restore the deleted Gator head logo ("File:Florida Gators logo.svg") for the University of Florida Gators sports teams immediately. Administrator Zscout370 has overstepped the bounds of his authority in deleting the proper logo from 19 separate pages, after substituting an improper logo for each of the 19 prior uses of the proper logo. There is no policy that justifies the removal of these logos. This was done by Zscout370 between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. EST, and presented as a fait accompli without discussion, and without prior notice on the file page, on the file uploader's talk page or anywhere else. Zscout370's sole justification was contained in one of his edit summaries, to wit: "as a member of the SEC, I know this is right out." (It is unclear which of the 12 "member" institutions of the Southeastern Conference Zscout thinks he is, but we'll put the bizarre grammar issues aside for the moment.) Proper "fair use" justifications were provided for the University of Florida page and all 19 team pages on which the proper Gator head logo was used. The "Gators" script logo substituted by Zscout370 is NOT the primary logo of the Gators sports teams, in fact, the substituted script "Gators" is not used by any of the teams other than the football team (and then only on their helmet and not elsewhere). The substitute script logo put in place by Zscout does not even use the correct school/team colors. Zscout's removal of a proper "fair use" logo and substitution of an improper logo, followed by the immediate deletion of the proper logo with the use of the "unused image" template as justification smacks of "boot-strapping." In an effort to further stymie the use of the proper logo, Zscout has created a protected redirect from the file address of the proper Florida Gators logo.svg to the improper Gators script logo. The abuse of this process by Wikipedia administrator Zscout370 stinks to high heaven and should not be without consequences. Pending resolution of this dispute, all of the improper logos substituted by Zscout have been deleted from the 19 pages from which Zscout deleted the proper logo ("File:Florida Gators logo.svg"). Because Zscout acted outside any of the normal procedures for contested "fair use" images, I hereby request the immediate restoration of the status quo ante uses of the proper logo, pending any further discussion regarding their use. Thank you. -Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 10:52, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

In its present form the article may well be nominated for deletion again: it gives no indication of notability, a requirement to have a Wikipedia article, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." It is also rather promotional in tone. Read WP:Your first article and, if you are connected with the company, WP:COI and WP:BESTCOI. JohnCD (talk) 21:37, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
The article was marked to be wikified, and it was wikified according to the guidelines prior to the time needed to. I don´t see a reason to have the article deleted -200.49.162.239 (talk) 15:25, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- The article Sandra Torres here on the English Wikipedia has not been deleted. The deletion you are complaining about was on the Spanish Wikipedia, and you must ask them about it - each Wikipedia is run independently and has its own rules and procedures. JohnCD (talk) 15:37, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Burlington Landlocked Forest
Burlington Landlocked Forest was deleted due to "G12: Blatant copyright infringement: content from http://www.landlockedforest.com/ and subpages". This is *OK* as the same group of people ("Friends of the Landlocked Forest") is maintaining both. The group is trying to spread word of the forest (a rather large piece of open space NE of Boston, surprisingly unknown), and is not objecting to the text being copied. Additionally, there is no copyright notice on www.landlockedforest.com at all.
If you restore Burlington Landlocked Forest, I will wikify and reword the page. -Miden (talk) 20:42, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Not done. Assertion that it's *OK* and absence of a copyright sign are not sufficient - the text can only be admitted to Wikipedia, even in a user page, if the copyright holder has made a release as described in WP:Donating copyrighted materials. You will have to rework the text offline before resubmitting it. Be aware that minor adjustments of wording are not sufficient - see Wikipedia:Copy-paste. There are also issues of notability and tone - I will give more advice on your talk page within a day or two, but in the meantime read WP:Your first article. JohnCD (talk) 21:23, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Kumite Ryu Jujitsu
Kumite Ryu Jujitsu is a notable and reputable style of Jujitsu made famous by a top competitor and practitioner Soke John Davis (student of Dr. Moses Powell, And Florendo Visitacion (Grand Professor Vee), stuntman, SAG actor and kick boxing and Wide World of Sports competitor, etc.). It is practiced globally. Some notable students are: Chuck Zito,Anthony Muhammad,Bill McCloud, etc. Some more info: The School of Survival
Li'l John Davis is the founder and current Sōke of Kumite-ryū. He is also a 9th dan in Sanuces-ryū, which he studied directly under Powell. He has extensive experience in jūdō, aikidō, karate, and arnis. He has been employed as a bodyguard and has a wealth of self-defense experience. He has 40 years of martial arts training and is a member of the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame. He is also a technical advisor and member of the Board of Directors of the New York Martial Arts Center.[3] He founded Kumite-ryū (which he dubbed "The School of Survival") as the successor art to Sanuces-ryū and Vee Jitsu. It contains the "Te" forms and broad range of integrated techniques found in Vee Jitsu, as well as the simplicity and survival mentality of Sanuces-ryū. Kumite-ryū's simple mission is elegantly stated in the Kumite-ryū Creed: "As we walk, we walk in peace, and fear shall not prevail. We are not the aggressors, but if we are attacked, we will fight with those who fight with us. And if we must fight, we will fight to survive." Style
Kumite-ryū has been influenced by other styles, the most prominent among them obviously being its mother art, Sanuces-ryū, and its predecessor, Vee Jitsu. It has also been influenced by Muay Thai and, more heavily, by Shōtōkan, from which it derives the use of kata and the kyū/dan ranking system. The ranking system comprises white, yellow, green, purple, and brown belts followed by ten degrees of black belt. Kumite-ryū makes use of both "hard" and "soft" techniques. Its movements flow smoothly, combining power, simplicity, and grace. The system is characterized by its practical applicability to the street through a systematic approach to blocks, strikes, holds, grapples, locks, throws, falls, and kicks, and by its "follow-through" style. John Davis has gone a long way toward making Kumite-ryū as "real" as possible. Courtesy is always shown when entering and exiting the dōjō, addressing superiors, practicing with other students, and sparring with the uke. Students must wear a plain white gi, and can accompany it with a dark hakama if they have one. Students who have attained belts in other martial arts schools may not wear them in the dōjō. Students are strictly forbidden from showing off techniques outside the dōjō and from practicing with non-students. Kumite-ryū is, above all things, a practical art, intended for self-defense on the street. The more "McDōjō" aspects of some martial arts schools are not present. For example, students will never enter a belt contract or pay for belt tests or rankings. Falls and rolls will occasionally be done on a bare floor or on concrete to simulate the kinds of falls one can expect in a real fight. Students will never be expected to break boards or bricks, but they will be expected to perform grappling, kumite (free sparring) and randori (practicing defense techniques from multiple attackers). In Kumite-ryū, randori is performed with the tori (defender) standing in a circle of uke, who may attack at will, either alone or in groups of two. Kumite-ryū students are expected to constantly hone body and mind by perfecting their form and using their knowledge of technique in new ways to face unexpected situations. While it is generally a hand-to-hand art (as one is not usually expected to be carrying martial arts weapons on the street), the system also includes techniques in the use of (among other weapons) the jō, bō, tantō, and nunchaku. Dōjōs
This is an incomplete list of Kumite-ryū dōjōs.

reasoning -96.250.7.211 (talk) 03:05, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
The reference to Professor Florendo Visitation as being 'obscure' is an insult to the reputation of a great man. There are many reasons why he should not be deleted not the least of which is: On August 11, 1971, the American Judo and Jujitsu Federation (AJJF) officially recognized Vee-jitsu and issued Master Visitacion its highest rank of Judan (tenth black). Please reconsider because there are a lot of Vee-Jitsu organizations in the country & they will all be upset when this becomes known.
Thank You, Thomas M. O'Brien

Master of Finance & Control
I had earlier made a page by name " Department of Financial Studies ( DFS ) - MFC" which was deleted as it looked like an advertisement but after your suggestions I made a new page "Master of Finance & Control" wherein I have mentioned only the facts related to this course and have avoided any kind of promotion or advertising. If there are particular lines which you find inappropriate, please mention them. I would either remove or modify this to suit the Wikipedia policies. Please help me out with this. I would love to cooperate and follow all the guidelines. -Anshugoel12 (talk) 07:14, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- Not done. Even without promotional language, this is not a suitable subject. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a notice-board for course prospectuses. Individual courses within a University are very unlikely to be notable enough to have an article. This has been explained on your talk page here. Also, if you are connected with the course, you should read the guideline on WP:Conflict of interest. JohnCD (talk) 12:09, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
I understand your concern but this Department is not merely a department of a university but it is kind of an autonomous body with regards to its admission process etc. This is a post graduate course which is similar to the MBA course offered by various B-schools. Since, all B-schools have a page devoted to them on Wikipedia, I want to provide information about our B-school as well through wikipedia. I request you to reconsider my request. I assure you that all the information provided would be inline with the Wikipedia policies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anshugoel12 (talk • contribs) — Anshugoel12 (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic.

Pradosham
People in India, especially in south India worship Lord shiva during pradosham. There is a lot more to write but I am pained to note that an article which is of common interest to many people, is deleted by someone who may not even know what is meant by Pradosham. I had just started the article and wanted the readers to add more content. I believed that there are people with more knowledge who could have made contributions to the article. Pradosham worship is gaining a lot of ground and is spreading across Indian states and cities. I am told that even in Singapore and Malaysia Pradosham worship has started taking place. I can write more but I wanted to wait for more knowlegeable people to add content so that it benefits all readers -Kbschennai (talk) 10:06, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

This is a file from 2004 On January 7, 2011 at National Register of Historic Places listings in Central Chicago the following notice was placed by SoxBot (I'd give the diff but it is a huge page) "Holy Name Cathedral This file is a candidate for speedy deletion. It may be deleted after Friday, January 14, 2011." I politely asked the nominator to hang on while I got the original uploader to comment. - Object for same reasoning as I just gave on my talk page. Filer alleges a process short-cut which clearly did not occur, and cannot provide a source for the image himself. Courcelles 03:21, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- The words in quotation marks are just a verbatim quotation of how I learned how the file was to be deleted. All I have asked for is time - and the 7 days promised in the quote seem reasonable. As far as the source - I'm pretty sure it's the uploader himself (and yes I have some evidence, but this is probably not the place to present it). Back in 2004, I suspect just uploading your own file and stating that it is public domain was probably standard procedure, not the specific song and dance we have to do now. So what is the rush? Smallbones (talk) 03:29, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Not done If you or the uploader can provide a source for the image, I will gladly restore it and, not wishing to put words in his mouth, I'm sure Courcelles would be equally obliging if you asked him nicely and with a source. Without a source, however, we have to treat the image as if it were a copyvio and I'm afraid that the burden is on those wishing to restore it to prove that it's suitably licensed. By all means email me and I'll send you the image in an attachment, but it can't be restored unless its origins can be proven. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:43, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Tripura Charan Devsharma
The page has been deleted. But why ? The Yogi - Tripura Charan Devsharma has hundreds and thousands of disciples all over the world. His Disciple "Ganesh Baba" Page has reference to this holy Yogi. If a page in the name of the disciple can exist in Wikipedia, the page describing the Master should exist too. But my God ! You people just go on deleting it without assigning reason or absolutely vague reasons. Please undelete the same immediately. And if you people are the victim of racism that you are not going to allow a page in the name of an Indian, my good wishes to you. -Nirban (talk) 17:24, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- The actual page was Tripura Charan Devasharma · ( talk | logs | links | watch ) · [revisions]. Which was deleted as it did not discuss the significance of the individual. Do you know of any books or journals that have covered the subject in detail? Spartaz Humbug! 20:36, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Apparently Tripura Charan Devsharma was a Yogi who gave a book about his philosophy to one of his students (Ganesh Baba), who then made some changes and later gave it to one of his students, who then translated it into English and published it as The Crazy Wisdom of Ganesh Baba. Kriya Yoga strongly emphasizes the Guru -> Disciple relationship and thus Nirban is apparently going on the basis that if the disciple is worthy of inclusion the guru must be. Other than his connection with the book all reliable sources about this person would likely be in Hindi, and thus somewhat more difficult to verify.
- The article did contain the text; "There his Sadhana began and within a short period he crossed all the stages of ‘Kriya-Yoga’ and became ‘Acharya’. He had and still has thousands and thousands of disciples and a good number of Ashrams in West Bengal." 'Thousands and thousands of disciples' sounds like a claim of notability... as does the title of Acharya.
- That said, the article also contains the text, "Tripura Charan always asked his disciples to do their duties to their family first and at the same time practice Kriya." - Which appears to be verbatim from the book above. A previous incarnation of this article was deleted for copyright violation - likely related to this passage. --CBD 15:31, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
