[edit]- Wikipedia:No meta-templates → Wikipedia:Meta-templates -- No policy, No is POV →AzaToth 10:20, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Strong delete, the status of this has been a source of constant arguments and we don't need redirects that muddy the waters. Crotalus horridus (TALK • CONTRIBS) 20:28, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Polish invasion of Czechoslovakia → Occupation of Czechoslovakia -- Inherently POV term almost never used in English (Google shows 6 hits) (6)Balcer 07:36, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong oppose. Another instance of Polish editors trying to whitewash embarrassing stains from their country's history and to cover up blatant aggression. If the redirect is deleted, I will restore it the next minute. --Ghirla | talk 09:05, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete. per Balcer. Anti-Polish POV magnet. - Darwinek 11:31, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. Especially that the matter could be pretty well explained in Border conflicts between Poland and Czechoslovakia. Halibutt 11:37, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. I'm wondering about the wisdom of deleting a redirect that represents a POV sentiment if that sentiment is discussed and dismissed as being POV in a target article. I've not read either Occupation of Czechoslovakia or Border conflicts between Poland and Czechoslovakia, but I'm wondering whether it would be better to have a POV redirect point at an article that places the POV sentiment in an NPOV context than to delete the redirect altogether. I'm looking at this from a general treatment perspective rather than taking into account the specifics of this particular context. User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:18, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- The situation here is much simpler: the expression "Polish invasion of Czechoslovakia" is practically never used in the English language in any context. Google shows 6 hits for the expression (see [1])(plus now the Wikipedia redirect as well). To my thinking, redirects do have to adhere to some minimal standard of use, otherwise we will have to allow millions of other redirects that users simply make up. Besides, if anything, it is the participation of the army of Communist Poland in the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact forces which would be brought to mind by this phrase, not the events of 1938. - Cecil County (MD) → Cecil County, Maryland -- This is a redirect from an unusual abbreviation that was used only once and is now unused; it is unlikely to be used again as the common abbreviation is "Cecil County, MD" .. inclusion of the parenthetical is idiosyncratic. - List of places with interesting or unusual names → Wikipedia:Unusual articles/Places with unusual names -- A redirect from the encyclopedia namespace to the WP namespace. [edit]- GMC_Sierra → Chevrolet_Silverado -- This page is supposed to be about The GMC Sierra. However, it redirects to a page about the Chevrolet Silverado. These trucks are related, but by no means the same truck. -Mtz1031
- Oppose unless there is a plan to for someone to write an article about the GMC Sierra. When that happens, the redirect can go (and in fact will be replaced by the article). Until it happens, a redirect is fine. --Nlu (talk) 21:37, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose - These vehicles are virtually identical. --SFoskett 03:47, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Feederliner → Regional_jet -- Feederliners are many types of aircraft, and are typically turboprops instead of jets Mexcellent 08:02, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Indeed, which is what the article was about when I wrote it a long time ago. It appears that someone has removed the content to some other article, and then turned this into an incorrect redirect. It should NOT be removed, at a minimum it should be pointed to the correct article, or re-instated. Maury 14:44, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Hmmm. I have done some poking about and I can't find anything like my original article at all. The regional jet article may had clipped large portions from it, but the turboprop section is missing. Likewise the regional airline article is about the the companies, not the aircraft. Yet there's nothing in the history of the feederliner article as to what has happened. It was about 5 pages long, I swear! Maury 14:47, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Looks like your feederliner article was merged with regional jets,
which then gradually lost all references to turboprops. While some regional jets are feederliners, most feederliners are not regional jets. The worst part of it is there are quite a few articles on turboprop aircraft that mention they are feederliners, but going to feederliner takes you to regional jets, which is silly to say the least and causes the encyclopedia to contradict itself. The ideal solution would have been to not allow the articles to be merged, but that was two years ago, so whaddyagonnado. Delete the inaccurate redirect and move on, I hope. Mexcellent 17:23, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply] - Actually, it's worse than I thought. feederliner AND regional aircraft both redirect to regional jet, which makes no sense at all. If anything, the main article should be regional aircraft, and there should be redirects pointing to that article from feederliner and regional jet. The whole arrangement of feederliner/regional jet/regional aircraft has been slowly edited over a couple of years to the point where the relationships don't make sense anymore. I might fix it. Mexcellent 17:46, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Hitoshi Igarishi → Hitoshi Igarashi -- Misspelling. Igarishi is not correct. Igarashi is correct. Mochi 17:58, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose because in my reading, I've seen this misspelling before, meaning it's quite likely some one could come here and search on that spelling. In that event, it would be good to have a redirect in place. adavidw 06:17, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Aang Cibi → Aang -- This redirect to an animated character profile is practically useless, because it seems to have been born of a mistaken reading. The only occurance I've found of the phrase "Aang Cibi" (beyond pages that refer to wikipedia) is on a fanart site, where the artist has drawn a chibi of the character and mispelled the word itself. This has led to multiple people mistakenly claiming that the character has a surname. However, its page history may need to be merged. --Buinne 06:05, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Charles Cotton (poet) → Charles Cotton -- Because another Charles Cotton biography was added, the original Charles Cotton was made a disambiguation page, pointing to both, Charles Cotton (poet) (the original) and Charles Cotton (geologist) (the new one). A suggestion was made that the poet retain the Charles Cotton page, where a pointer to the geologist would be added. These changes have been done, so I request Charles Cotton (poet) be deleted. The nominated redirect was kept. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 23:26, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- "Jimmy Norton" → Jim Norton (comedian) -- The redirect has actual quotation marks in it, when near as I can tell, the person never spells their name like that, and nobody would be searching for a name enclosed in quotes like that. adavidw 06:11, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- There is a small possibility someone would type it in, and meanwhile it's not doing any harm. Oppose. ··gracefool |☺ 23:12, 6 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Mr. Treason → Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Mr. Treason -- Redirect from article namespace to Wikipedia namespace, and not one of the usual shortcuts. I speedied it yesterday, but it was recreated (by the same career vandal), and before just deleting and protecting the page, I thought I'd bring it here to get more opinions. GTBacchus(talk) 23:33, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep, per the reasoning I used on Willy on Wheels, even if that was deleted. Stifle 09:42, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. By virtue of being in the main namespace, Mr. Treason should be an article about the vandal (if encyclopaedic and verifiable). I'd like exceptions to be really exceptions, i.e., WP:... shortcuts.
The Willy on Wheels discussion can be found at Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion/Redirect Archives/January 2006#January 13, and Stifle's "vote" was "Keep, unless you're going to change all the pages that link to Willy on Wheels too." However, no pages link to Mr. Treason. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 13:44, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]- Indeed, nor to Willy on Wheels, besides deletion discussions (like this one). -GTBacchus(talk) 20:19, 11 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Faggoth was merged into Black metal, so has to be kept (in some form) for its history. See Talk:Faggoth and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Faggoth. -- Eugene van der Pijll 17:14, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- HTML entity redirects: a variety of redirects have been created in recent weeks whose titles are HTML entity codes, as listed below in the subitems. These cannot be searched for or located in the usual way. For instance, to find "[[<]]" you would have to type < in the search box. To link to it, you need to type [[<]] in the wikitext. Further, these titles will cause problems with bots and scripts that analyze redirects, because the scripts will convert the entity codes into the corresponding character. I propose a blanket rule that all such redirects be deleted, including those listed below. --Russ Blau (talk) 13:53, 9 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment: I removed the tags because I assumed the page history was needed following the previous merger(s) as per GFDL. If that's a problem, why not just protect the redirects? -- JJay 09:37, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment I agree with JJay. I looked at the "Arguments for" page and found a detailed history of a merger in July 2005 and all the content is duplicated in "Existence of God." It seems like the "for" and "against" pages should be made into redirects and then protected so they can't be reverted. Thatcher131 12:12, 16 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose, the history needs saved. Protection probably isn't necessary, but wouldn't be harmful in this case. Peyna 00:22, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. It is not necessary to keep the redirects, it is only necessary to preserve the history. That may also be achieved by moving the redirects out of the main namespace, for instance to Talk:Existence of God/Arguments for the existence of God. However, there seems to be no reason to delete the redirects. -- Jitse Niesen (talk) 23:38, 17 February 2006 (UTC)The above is preserved as the archive of an RfD nomination. - Joo → Journal of Oregon Ornithology -- Violates WP naming conventions; was created purely as an excuse to wipe out an actual article (stubby though it was) without going through a proper AfD. Aaron 20:30, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Patsy Ramsey → JonBenét Ramsey -- See below for reason. Patsy Ramsey is the mother of JonBenét Ramsey. adnghiem501 08:41, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. See next for rationale. -- JLaTondre 14:23, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- John Ramsey → JonBenét Ramsey -- A very few non-notable persons are named John Ramsey, and John Ramsey which is redirect to JonBenét Ramsey is the father of her that does not necessarily need to be created for an article. adnghiem501 08:35, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. Your rationale for deletion is exactly why they should be kept. They don't need their own articles so a redirect to where they are actually discussed is appropriate. That's one of the purposes of redirects. -- JLaTondre 14:23, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment:It would be wrong. Two non-notable persons with the same name, listed at Wikipedia:Find-A-Grave famous people/R are not about JonBenét Ramsey's father, and they could be redirect to a wrong article. Their articles have never been created before. It's better to put the redirect up for deletion. Please check "What links here". adnghiem501 06:49, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- I've deleted the blue links of those non-notable John Ramsey at Wikipedia:Find-A-Grave famous people/R. I'm so sorry; I must be confused with my thought, once in a while. The target should be kept. adnghiem501 07:14, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Spotscouter → Spotscout -- This was an article that was {{prod}}ded and survived the 5-day mandate. Before an admin could get to it for deletion, a user blanked the page and turned it into this redirect (the redirect target is itself about to be deleted by unanimous consensus in an AfD). - John Gerrard has been redirected to John Gerard S.J.... the original page needs deleting --Timsj 13:32, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
- This appears to have been a merge, not a move, so the original page needs to stay for the page history or be history-merged. If "John Gerrard" isn't used for anything else, it seems like a sufficiently likely misspelling to keep this as a redirect. Kusma (討論) 01:16, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
