[edit]Editing/Creating Article Issue
[edit]Hello, I am unable to to use visual editor for creating or editing article, i have done the preference setting and all what i know to make it work but its not working out and the source editor is hard for me.
Kindly help me out please QDJ22 (talk) 02:27, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- @qdj22: you asked this at wikipedia:administrators' noticeboard/incidents as well. next time, ask your question at only one venue, but not at the noticeboards. lettherebedarklight晚安 02:59, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- ohh okay, thanks QDJ22 (talk) 03:10, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
Donation
[edit]How often are you going to ask me for a donation. I just gave you one last week. Don't be greedy 67.87.123.86 (talk) 06:53, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has no way to know if the person sitting at your computer at any given moment has seen a donation request or donated. You can avoid seeing the donation requests if you create an account and disable them in the account preferences. We don't want you donating if you can't afford it. Further inquiries about donations should be addressed to donate (at) wikimedia dot org, we editors have nothing to do with the donation process. 331dot (talk) 07:09, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- I think the current campaign will end at some point, but not when. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:14, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Gråbergs Gråa Sång If I'm not mistaken they usually run through the end of the year. 331dot (talk) 07:58, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Welcome and thank you for your question about donations! To hide the fundraising banners, you can create an account and uncheck Preferences → Banners → Fundraising. The Wikimedia Foundation does not track the identity of IP addresses, so it doesn't know your age, income level or whether you donated in the past.
None of the Wikipedia volunteer editors here who add and improve content in articles receive any financial benefit. We all simply contribute our time because we care about building a great encyclopedia for you and innumerable others around the world to use.
If you cannot afford it, no one wants you to donate. Wikipedia is not at risk of shutting down, and the Wikimedia Foundation, which hosts the Wikipedia platform and is asking for these donations, is richer than ever.
You are welcome to communicate directly with the donor-relations team by emailingdonate@wikimedia.org

how to create our company profile page in wikipedia
[edit]how to create our company profile page in wikipedia Karuna kala (talk) 06:57, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a directory for companies, and you are not allowed to advertise a company on Wikipedia. If it is a major company that is discussed in reliable sources, then an article will be made without your involvement. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 07:11, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Long answer: read these pages: Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing, WP:PAID, WP:NORG, WP:YFA. Shorter answer, it is probably a waste of time to try. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:12, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Karuna kala (ec) The short answer is, you don't, because we don't have "company profiles", not a single one. Wikipedia has articles, typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the subject. 331dot (talk) 07:14, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Karuna kala As I noted on your Talk page, your first edit was lifted from another source, and was almost certainly a copyright violation. You can't copy text from other places into Wikipedia articles. Thanks. David10244 (talk) 07:53, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
how to crate a article page
[edit]want to crate a article page but didnt get any link to create a article Karuna kala (talk) 07:21, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Karuna kala If this is related to your question above, please read the YFA link in the answer above. David10244 (talk) 07:41, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
I.E. and E.G.
[edit]Is there any advice for, or against, using "i.e." and "e.g." in articles? For what it's worth, I know a couple of authors of mathematical books and papers who told me, about 20 years ago, that their publishers had started discouraging use of these. I don't remember why (people get them confused? Or don't know what they mean?) Thanks. David10244 (talk) 07:38, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- I can find no relevant advice at WP:MOS. But it does frequently use "e.g.". Maproom (talk) 08:19, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- MOS:ABBREV mentions both "i.e." and "e.g." as exceptions that "should not be italicised, linked, or written out in full in normal usage", which would imply that it is fine to use them in articles. CodeTalker (talk) 18:27, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Interesting (about the MOS; I didn't catch that myself).... David10244 (talk) 11:58, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- Context is everything. In a work of reference such expressions are usually fine, whereas they probably wouldn't be appropriate in a romantic novel. I'm guessing that the thinking behind discouraging their use in mathematical papers is that prose needs to be clearly distinguished from formulae. Shantavira|feed me 09:53, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- It sounds like Wikipedia is not trying to discourage use of these. Thanks for the answers. David10244 (talk) 11:57, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
I AM NOT ABLE TO CHANGE (user CONNECT) FROM TOP OF THE HEADING
[edit]HI... I WANT TO EDIT USER CONNECT FROM MY PROFILE PAGE FROM TOP OF HEADING..KINDLY SUGGEST & GUIDE ME TO EDIT THIS RAJAL JAN SAMADHAN KENDRA (talk) 08:09, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- RAJAL JAN SAMADHAN KENDRA I'm not sure what you are asking, but please do not "yell"(use all capital letters). 331dot (talk) 08:10, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- hi..i want to edit user connect from my wikipage, kindly guide me how to edit this RAJAL JAN SAMADHAN KENDRA (talk) 08:12, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Courtesy link: Connect (users group) Maproom (talk) 08:14, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- RAJAL JAN SAMADHAN KENDRA (ec) I don't know what "user connect" is. You attempted to edit the Connect (users group) article to add information about what I assume is your company. If you are attempting to create a new article, new accounts cannot do that, you must use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft for review by more experienced editors. Before you do, however, please read about conflict of interest and paid editing for information on required formal disclosures. 331dot (talk) 08:16, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Are you referring to an article title? 331dot (talk) 08:18, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- RAJAL JAN SAMADHAN KENDRA. Wikipedia does not have "profile pages". Not a single one. This is a project to write neutral, non-promotional encyclopedia articles. A User page describing your plans as an encyclopedia editor is allowed, but self-promotional content is forbidden. All self-promotional content will be deleted on sight. Try Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn or TikTok instead, where self-promotion is encouraged. Cullen328 (talk) 08:47, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

More generally, I see that the article Connect (users group) has had an adveristement tag for over eight years. It continues to read like an advertisement. Is it time to take stronger action, such as moving it to draft space or invoking one of the deletion routes? Feline Hymnic (talk) 11:11, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Feline Hymnic, Yes. -- Hoary (talk) 05:25, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Hoary: Done. I'm not used to doing this, so I from Twinkle chose "PROD"; I hope that was a reasonable choice. Feline Hymnic (talk) 11:30, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Feline Hymnic Seconded, if that actually does anything... I sure don't understand the OP's sentence after "Hi", but the other, experienced editors probably got it right. :-) David10244 (talk) 12:07, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- @David10244: He made this single edit to the article, which took it way, way off its topic. (Note: There are two things here: (a) the user's request about editing the article (b) the worthiness of the original article independent of his request. My note was prompted by the former, but led me to consider the latter.) Feline Hymnic (talk) 17:28, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Feline Hymnic That edit looks like the OP is trying to hijack the article. The "History" section of that article is its own weirdness. Deletion is the way to go.... David10244 (talk) 19:42, 26 December 2022 (UTC)
- I predict that the article hijack was unintentional though. David10244 (talk) 06:23, 27 December 2022 (UTC)

Main Page Articles E-Mail
[edit]Is there a bot witch sends you a E-Mail containing the text from today's featured article to On this day? Black backdoor (talk) 16:48, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- @black backdoor: the closest thing we have to what you ask is this, which gives the "today's featured article" and the "on the day" sections, coupled with wikitionary's "word of the day" and wikiquote's "quote of the day". lettherebedarklight晚安 11:50, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
How should a BA degree be wikilinked?
[edit]When showing that someone has a Bachelor of Arts degree should it be wikilined. I put (BA) but someone changed it to (BA)? Which is the correct way? I think that it is not known by enough people to be wikilinked. GameOfAwesome (talk) 19:10, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- @GameOfAwesome, linking to Bachelor of Arts while displaying BA is fine. 43,000 articles, seemingly mostly biographies, have a link to Bachelor of Arts, often displaying just BA. Or you can use B. A. which redirects directly. StarryGrandma (talk) 19:27, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you! GameOfAwesome (talk) 19:37, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- B.A. (without a space) would be a more usual abbreviation than B. A. - David Biddulph (talk) 19:40, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
Page move
[edit]A page is proposed to be moved to a new title, but I would like to propose an alternative title to move the article to. Is it possible to put on vote 2 alternative titles at once? Grandmaster 20:41, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- If you're talking about this move then I don't think so. There are already like 8 votes and what you're asking would annul the votes of people who’ve already voted in the current Move as it was proposed. If you want to suggest an alternative title, I advise adding it to your vote. I've done so myself. ZaniGiovanni (talk) 21:27, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Not to annule. Just to have a parallel vote. Same people can vote again. Grandmaster 21:29, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think that's how Moves work, and there is a strong consensus forming on the current one. As I said, I think it would be best that you propose your suggestion in your vote like others have done. ZaniGiovanni (talk) 21:36, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

Revision IDs returned by the server do not match error
[edit]Hi - When I try to open my sandbox page I get the error "Revision IDs returned by the server do not match (document: undefined, metadata: 1127308937)." I assume it's trying to open in visual editing mode, I'm sure if I could open in source mode I could fix it. Can you help? Thank you. Iguana0000 (talk) 20:46, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Iguana0000 - Your sandbox is currently a redirect to Richard Gigger, Jr. - perhaps that has something to do with it? casualdejekyll 20:49, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yes I wrote the article there and then it was moved into the main space where it now lives. What to do? Iguana0000 (talk) 20:53, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Iguana0000 - I've blanked the sandbox, see if that helps. If not I'm not sure what to do, but if you want to edit the article more then go to the link in mainspace to do so. casualdejekyll 20:57, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
- THANK YOU! That article is fine, needed it cleared in order to start on another one. Iguana0000 (talk) 21:05, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
