Referencing errors on 2016 NFL season

Reference help requested.

I was simply trying to keep those award tables in Section 10 all in a separate section and not wipe out the information below it. Can anyone more experienced with Wikipedia code fix my mistakes?

Fixed by Lizard the Wizard. Next time, you could test out new tables first in your sandbox (which you could use without disturbance, if you logged in with a registered user id - although logging in is not necessary per se to edit Wikipedia and making mistakes is part of the learning process). Quick Question

How do I pass an electrical DC current through water salty or not? The electric eel can pass a high voltage through the water that hasn’t got much chloride in it, then why it so hard to do? Put it this way, the eel doesn’t it very well and no one so far has given a correct answer to this question. Hiding entries from watchlist

I have the main reference desk pages on my watchlist and at the moment there is a large number of entries recording changes in visibility (due to content being hidden) and protection level (due to persistent vandalism). Is there any way of hiding these entries from my watchlist? I looked at my watchlist prefs and nothing stood out. Thanks, --Viennese Waltz 08:01, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

@Viennese Waltz: Right. .mw-changeslist-log-delete { display: none; } will get rid of deletion logs and .mw-changeslist-log-protect, .mw-changeslist-log-delete { display: none; } will get rid of both deletion as well as protection logs from your watchlist. These go into your common.css. Please note that the code hides these logs across all pages. Let me see if there are page specific css for logs as well. - NQ (talk) 08:47, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

@Viennese Waltz: If you want to make them specific to just Special:Watchlist, the following in common.css or global.css should do the trick:

body.mw-special-Watchlist .mw-changeslist-log-block,
body.mw-special-Watchlist .mw-changeslist-log-delete,
body.mw-special-Watchlist .mw-changeslist-log-move,
body.mw-special-Watchlist .mw-changeslist-log-protect {
    display: none;
}

I added block and move logs as well, just for a broader example (there will be others for other log types as well). Pick whatever mix of those meets your needs.

@NQ and Viennese Waltz: Oh, right, yeah. Something like the following should restrict it to just WP:RD:

N.B. I've not actually tested that, it's just a quick construction thrown together. CSS pattern matching like that can be quirky, and I'm not quite sure if that's correct or best for matching one of many classes on an element. If it doesn't work, it's in the general area, and just needs a bit of a tweak (to one of the other advanced CSS pattern matching selectors). It's also sufficiently advanced that it could vary between browsers.

@NQ and Viennese Waltz: Ok, did some experimenting. Yes, I was hopeful that the browser might enumerate the classes against it, but *= is needed instead. Namespace 5 (above) is "Wikipedia talk", so you also need 4 for "Wikipedia". This is probably the correct, narrowest case, solution (as long as your browser has reasonable support for CSS level 3 selectors — fairly commonly supported these days):

French School at Athens

Hi,

• As a non-native English speaker I discovered this page and created a related category. Just, I'm a bit suprised with the title of the page which I would have expected to be "French School in Athens" or possibly "French School of Athens". The current title seems to be a raw translation of the French École française d'Athènes. Can someone please tell me if things are what they're supposed to be or do the correction (of both the title of the article and that of the category?).

• Also, I intend to translate the École française de Rome and create an associated category. What titles should be appropriate? French School in Rome? at Rome? of Rome or would it be better to keep the French intitulé? And anyway (I've tried), any title redirects to Roman Historical Institutes of which the School is only a part. How to do and independant article and under which title?

• Endly, I created another category which probably should be "Category:Contributors to the Supplement to the Encyclopédie (1776–80)".

A Google search of the official site gives me 14 results for "French School at Athens" and only 2 for "French School in Athens". The purposes of the French School at Athens (not found by Google) uses "at" in a heading. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:21, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

My article was considered suitable for speedy deletion

I started a new article 'Stephen Hagen' and whilst working on it with a large number of citations, the page was declared suitable for speedy deletion. The compilation of the article has been ongoing over several hours; I have justified why the article should not be deleted but the caption is still on the article and I have not received any follow-up such as the removal of the speedy deletion warning. Shortly after you posted here, another user, the same that tagged your article (Stephen Hagen) with a speedy-deletion notice, has left a message on your talk page explaining why it was probably a bad idea to write the article in the first place. I suggest you read that notice and follow the links.

The article is not deleted yet. I think it may survive speedy deletion, but its chances at the regular deletion process are not huge. Should it be deleted either way, the deleting administrator will be able to give you a copy of the material if you contact them, but you should not put it again in Wikipedia's mainspace (i.e. the pages that our readers view). I have declined the speedy deletion as I believe anyone who is asserted to be a professor and the vice-chancellor of a nationally recognised university has a legitimate claim for our notability guidelines on academics. The only reason I would have deleted the article is if it was a copyright violation, which it superficially resembles based on my experience of examining new pages, but I cannot find any evidence of copied text in this instance. I am looking for someone with the user rights for mass message sending. plainlist and flatlist

I've recently started to insert both of these whenever I think they're needed, but now I'm wondering whether I'm doing the right thing in some cases. For instance, in this edit I used plainlist to separate the title from the year in the infobox in the "last album", "this album" and "next album" fields to avoid the line break format. I've noticed that hardly any article seems to have a problem with this, since they all seem to be happy with the line break format. Should I continue making such edits? The {{plainlist}} template is preferable to the HTML line break <br /> for accessibility reasons (think screen readers), according to the template documentation, so I don't think your edits are unnecessary. clpo13_(talk) 17:21, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Murph9000 brings up a good point about using what's semantically correct for a given situation. For non-list line breaks, see WP:LINEBREAK. I don't particularly like bare HTML in wikitext, but it serves its purpose well enough. clpo13_(talk) 17:33, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

(edit conflict)@Jodosma: In general, for things which are naturally a list of items, using lists is important and should be done for WP:ACCESSIBILITY. On the other hand, they should not be used (again for accessibility reasons) for things which are not naturally lists. In this case, the years are not naturally a separate list item, so I don't think you should be using lists for them. Using it for the different lengths and labels in that edit, on the other hand, is good and correct, as they are naturally a list. Short version: always use list markup for lists, never use it for non-lists. Murph9000 (talk) 17:24, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

The template-specific advice at Template:Infobox album#Chronology is "All album titles should be italicized. The year of release for each should be listed in parentheses, separated from the album title by <br /> or <br>."
There has been a lot of "discussion" at Template talk:Infobox album, and other music templates, about the use of flatlist and plainlist - Arjayay (talk) 17:38, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

inaccuracies on my page, Hyapatia Lee

I have been trying to make changes to my page. I am Hyapatia Lee. I don't know what more I need to do to prove my identity to you but I have had several correspondences with identities unknown to me regarding the changes I have tried to make. They informed me of the need to prove my identity, so, in that effort: my blog is hyapatialee.wordpress.com and I just published a new book called Native Strength - The First Step on the Path to an Indomitable Life which is available on AuthorHouse.com and Amazon.com where I also have an author page with links to videos I have personally made (via Filmora) that are excerpts from the book. I hope this proves my identity to you. Please allow me to get to the meat of the situation.

I am not a particularly computer literate person, being 55 years old, I feel I am doing pretty well to have done the things I have. In other words, I am not fluent in HTML and obviously, have not succeeded in trying to update my page. The first thing I would like to do on my page is to add my new endeavors, namely, my book and links to relevant pages. Another issue is the use of the word "prolific" when describing my prior career in adult movies. As an actress who was involved in the business for over 10 years, 96 films (including compilations) as reported on the page currently, is not particularly prolific when compared with such contemporaries as Nina Hartley who has appeared in over one thousand movies. When compilations are excluded, my actual participation was four or five movies a year, and in some years, only two. As I was one of the most popular actresses at the time and brought in more revenue than many others, I would like to argue for the use of the more accurate word "popular" instead.

I would also like to have my work in R- rated films included. I was in Killing Obsession and worked opposite John Savage from The Deer Hunter and The Godfather, as well as having rolls in Hellroller and The Wacky Adventures of Dr.Boris and Nurse Shirley starring Paul Bartel from Eating Raoul.

In addition, my first album, The Two Sides of Hyapatia Lee was released by SRO Records. One side was country music and the other was comedy. One of the songs on the comedy side, Rub-A-Dub-Dub, made it to #3 on Dr.Dementos's weekly list of the Funny Five. As for my music with my band Double Euphoric and the album I released by the same name, I think it is worth noting that it was all original music written by me.

As for the line about trying to distance myself from the adult movie business, I would like that to be removed as it is entirely false. Simply because one no longer wishes to make adult movies does not mean one wishes to distance themselves from their past. I retired in 1996 to raise my children in Indiana. Now that they are grown, I have returned to work. As an older woman, I feel more comfortable with writing, as I did for Cheri Magazine for five years in the 1980's. My weekly advice column for High Times, available on their Facebook page, is very similar. Furthermore, my first book The Secret Lifes of Hyapatia Lee has been misquoted as being an effort to either "trash talk" the business or "make excuses" for my involvement in it. It is neither. It is simply a candid look at my life and what prompted me to choose that career. Nowhere in the book do I make any statements regarding regret in my choice to be involved in that business, as I have none. In it, I make quite clear that it was helpful to me and that I was treated well in the business. My only two criticisms of the business are clearly spelled out: 1) Performers are underpaid, and 2) Most performers did not have the control over their work that I did. My childhood was shitty, so what? Lots of us have shitty childhoods. That is not to say all people with shitty childhoods will choose this profession or that my profession was a direct result of my childhood. One makes excuses for behaviors they regret. My childhood was offered in my autobiography to give the reader insight into my personality, not as an "excuse" for behavior for which I have no regrets.

I'm stalked by a wikipedia user

There is a wikipedia user and every day he checks what I have done in wikipedia. Very often then he comments, changes or reverts my work. He is not doing it in an aggressive or destroying way. It is more like a man watching the neighbors kid if it does behave right, an overseer, watchdog. I feel very uncomfortable with this situation. What can I do? @J-m.s: Since this issue seems specific to the German Wikipedia, you really need to raise the issue over there. Here at English Wikipedia, we have no influence or control over the conduct or content in any of the many other Wikipedias. You should be able to find their equivalent of our Help Desk via their community portal at de:Wikipedia:Autorenportal. The most we can do here is offer general advice, and most of us will not even properly know the policies and guidelines for other Wikipedias (each sets its own policies, although they are often similar to ours). Name change to page to reflect new brand.

Requesting help with name change on page WyzAnt. Wyzant has recently undergone a brand refresh and subsequent name spelling change. "WyzAnt" is now "Wyzant." Please see the updated website here: http://www.wyzant.com/

Please note that I'm an employee of Wyzant and would merely like to have the name of the page reflect the current brand. All other information is accurate and the log is already corrected.

Andimints12, when Joseph2302 moved the page to Wyzant, it automatically left the page WyZant behind as a redirect to the new name: this is usually desirable, in case somebody looks for it under the old name. The means that URLs with either cse will work. We have no control over what Google does. --ColinFine (talk) 22:11, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Page remains orphaned

Greetings!

I created my first page title Petplan Australia. I have a handicapped chihuahua, and know a great deal about the company. I preserved the objectivity of the piece, and created internal and external links.

I also created links from other Petplan pages on Wikipedia back to my new entry, Petplan Australia however I have an error message that states this article is orphaned.

Is there a special html code I need to use for linking from an existing wikipedia article to the new, related wikipedia article so that it will be unorphaned?

I appreciate your help very much.

To answer your question, maintenance tags on articles do not automatically go away when the problem is fixed. They need to be manually removed - see Help:Maintenance template removal. Why is today not today at Wikipedia?

Today is September, 16th (at least in Central Europe). Raoul Coutard was born in Paris, France on 16 September 1924. Why does his article say "age 91" when he was born exactly 92 years ago? When will this be updated and what logic (if any) is behind it? --88.78.7.58 (talk) 23:12, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

There are two issues here. One of them is that time-related things on Wikipedia go by UTC, in which it won't become the 16th for an hour. Two, pages will not update unless they are purged. Pppery 23:17, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

I'm assuming it is intended. UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is designed to be the starting point for all time zones. Makes sense that a global website such as Wikipedia would also use it. --Majora (talk) 23:53, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

It's deliberate that the English Wikipedia uses UTC as time zone. English is spoken in many parts of the World. {{LOCALTIME}} returns the UTC time here. Many Wikipedia languages return another value determined by wgLocaltimezone in https://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/highlight.php?file=InitialiseSettings.php. UTC is the default so enwiki is not listed. There was a suggestion with no replies at Template talk:Birth date and age/Archive 2#Time zone parameter. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:27, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
