[edit]Translators
[edit]Hello, Wikipedia Help desk!
I've searched around and I'm still not sure this is the correct place to pose this question/request: if it is, that's great. If not, and if there IS somewhere to point me in WP -- point away! Thanks.
Simple request: I've published an article in English. (My first.) I've now been asked whether it's possible to translate it onto Hebrew and have it published on he.wikipedia.org . I know the simple answer is "yes," but also that it's not that simple. I neither read nor write Hebrew, and even if I could get a good translation of the article, I realize we'd still need someone fluent in both Hebrew AND in editing in Wikipedia in Hebrew (and with the proper keyboard, etc.), since I've learned that just getting the article posted initially doesn't end things -- there will probably be unanticipated formatting issues as well as post-publishing comments that have to be addressed and so on.
The question: is there a "marketplace" somewhere in Wikipedia where I can post a request for someone capable of handling the translation, placement and up-front editing of the piece, where people offer themselves up for tasks like this (ideally voluntarily)? I've been unable to locate one so far.
Thanks!
Ed Ebdavids (talk) 00:24, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- I assume that the person(s) asking for it to be translated into Hebrew can read/write Hebrew? You should refer them to he:ויקיפדיה:תרגום (the hewiki version of Wikipedia:Translate) or to Wikipedia:Translate us PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 02:45, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Removing "needs cleanup"
[edit]After I have cleaned up an article, how do I remove the banner at the top that says "this article needs cleanup".
Also, how do i get someone else to review the article i cleaned up.
rich (talk) 00:45, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- If you believe that you have adequately addressed the concerns, you can remove it yourself. Look fo either the "
{{Multiple issues|....}}
" tag or the "{{cleanup|...}}
" and either remove it completely, or amend it as required. As for it being reviewed, sooner or later someone will look at it and "review" it PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 02:40, 12 August 2012 (UTC) - If you're referring to your edits to the Arizona Stadium article (it helps if you tell us what article you're referring to in case of any special circumstances or clarification), then you would edit the article and find at the top where it says {{Multiple issues|update=April 2012|cleanup=April 2012|expert=College Football|date=April 2012}}. Take out the |cleanup=April 2012 bit. And then save. Dismas|(talk) 02:42, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Both of these articles are locked, but new information has come up that should be added:
In an August 12, 2012 interview with the Deccan Herald, Asko Parpola clarified his position on Indus script by admitting that Sanskrit-speakers had contributed to the Indus Valley Civilization[1]
I'm not sure I should be the one to do the edits, since I published a book on this topic and may have a conflict of interest.S. M. Sullivan (talk) 01:56, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- My advice would be to discuss this on the articles' talk pages. If you receive no response in (say) a week, be bold and make the changes! PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 02:37, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

- A bit late in the day as the 'addmitting' wording has been added to articles, but it's clearly a pov way to phrase it. Dougweller (talk) 05:25, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Fair use for statues?
[edit]Recently, it appears there is a group of Wikipedians who have DEDICATED THEIR LIVES to deleting pictures of statues because of a lack of "Freedom of Panorama." Is there ANY WAY images of copyrighted statues could be used under fair use? Or are we just doomed to a modern sculpture-less Wikipedia? If so, I'll start nominating all of the pictures on Christ the Redeemer (statue) for deletion as well. Sound unreasonable to anyone else? DavidSSabb (talk) 02:50, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- As far as I can tell all of the photos on the Christ the Redeemer (statue) page are licenced and not used under Fair Use rationale. Did you mean to link to a different page? If you have issues with the WP:FAIRUSE policy, then bring it up at the talk page there. RudolfRed (talk) 04:56, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- I meant to link to that page. That page isn't really the point. But using the same criteria under which Commons:File:DanBooneASU.jpg was recently deleted under, and the criteria that every single image of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is nominated for deletion under, pictures of statues where the artist died less than 90 years ago (in the US, 70 in Brazil) should be deleted. My question was, is that actually what is supposed to be happening, or is there a fair use rationale that would allow pictures of copyrighted statues to remain. DavidSSabb (talk) 05:25, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- You would only need to delete the photos if they were not licenced, and all the photos in the Christ the Redeemer page are licensed, so it doesn't matter that they are not eligible for fair use or public domain status. As far as I know, Commons never hosts non-free content, so fair use won't save those photos anyway. RudolfRed (talk) 05:56, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- On the topic of the Martin Luther King, Jr. a picture could be uploaded locally under fair use. Ryan Vesey 06:05, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

- Fair use exists for all statues so at least one image should be used. On another note, Brazil allows freedom of panorama so any images of Brazilian statues can be freely licensed. You can view specific freedom of panorama requirements at Commons:Commons:FOP. I'm certainly not a fan of Freedom of Panorama laws. You can't even upload a picture of a building from Laos due to their highly restrictive licenses. Ryan Vesey 06:02, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

- I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. why kashmir is showed as territory claimed by india on wiki?
[edit]Hello Team,
This is surprise to see that most of the part of the kashmir is shown as a territory of china or pakistan on wiki.
Please revised the information correctly as it is hurting all indians who are visiting wiki.
If these territor's are the part of pakistan and china then there will be no issues to claim whole china and pakistan as a part of india.
please check and then post the figures correctly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.131.85.207 (talk) 06:32, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- If you have concerns about the Kashmir article, you should post a note on that article's talk page. RudolfRed (talk) 06:40, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- This question has been discussed many times - see the archives of Talk:Kashmir conflict. Wikikpedia attempts to be neutral, and, with respect, your view of matters is one of several conflicting views: Wikipedia should be reporting all the views without privileging any of them. --ColinFine (talk) 09:43, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- You don't refer to a specific page or map but I guess you saw a map which shows who is currently controlling the territory. The map may have dotted lines to signal a territory claimed by another country. This goes both ways. The unidentified map probably also has a part which is shown as controlled by India but claimed by Pakistan. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:23, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Translators (ATTN: PHANTOM STEVE)
[edit](Sorry that this is a new section -- I couldn't figure out how to place my response on this Help desk page immediately under your answer to my question.)
Thanks for your helpful reply, but the person who asked -- and who HAS offered to do a basic translation -- is, and will remain, clueless as to how to work with Wikipedia -- that's why I'm looking for someone who can both handle the translation (or the "requestor's" initial translation) AND then process it into a Wiki article. Someone facile in Hebrew and working with Wikipedia. (And, of course, he/she would be directed to or know of those pages you cited.) So -- is there a resource on this site to find someone like that? Thanks. (And if you can, please tell me how to format my replies to replies so they end up in the right place, rather than creating a new section each time!) EdEbdavids (talk) 06:37, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- I really think he:ויקיפדיה:תרגום (as linked by Steve) is the best place to ask. As for adding to an existing discussion, you edit that discussion (by picking the 'Edit' beside its title), and then add further text. You can indent it by starting the paragraph with a colon (':'): the more colons, the deeper the indent. --ColinFine (talk) 09:48, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you, ColinFine (and Steve). Appreciate the advice -- but it looks like, at least to start the process, I'll have to find some level of a combo Hebrew (and possibly)
Wiki expert to place/read the response! Off we go. Ebdavids (talk) 20:10, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
The Prospect Before Us
[edit]Article "The Prospect Before Us" refers only to a folk album. Its talk page is inaccessible, and the fact that the title also applies to a Sadler's Wells ballet of the 1940s cannot be raised there in your byzantine, arbitrary, and blinkered editorial process, with which I am personally completely fed up. While the ballet isn't revived these days, its score, which Lambert, who was a brilliant conductor, recorded, is of interest. It was arranged by Constant Lambert from music by Boyce, and was, since Lambert also edited the music he had drawn it from, the set of Symphonies Boyce published under that title (really what we would now call overtures) in the 1760s, indirectly the means by which this music, in its original scoring, which Lambert had "improved", was restored to the current baroque repertory. A short article might not be out of place, but even if the ballet were referred to in your Constant Lambert article (which ignores this important side of his activity), disambiguation might not be out of order.Delahays (talk) 08:30, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- If you'd like to write an article about the ballet, since you seem to know something about it, you can put it at The Prospect Before Us (ballet). When you've done that, you can add a link to the article about the ballet to the top of the existing article about the folk album by using the {{for}} template. This is how things are normally done when there are two articles about things for which the names are the same. You could additionally add links to the ballet in the appropriate articles for the composers and such. Additionally, the talk page for the folk album is accessible at Talk:The Prospect Before Us. But if you're going to be writing an article about the ballet, I don't see why you'd need to edit the talk page of the article about the album. Dismas|(talk) 09:13, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Incidentally - that talk page is not inaccessible, it just has no talk on it yet. To talk there, you could click on its "New section" tab. But I agree with Dismas, it would be better just to create an article about the ballet, as he says. Maproom (talk) 09:28, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Exporting templates to a private wiki
[edit]My employer has started a wiki. I would like to export a few templates (not all) from Wikipedia. What is the easiest way to do so for a newbie? --123.236.177.234 (talk) 08:36, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Depending on the number of templates, I would say copy/paste would be the easiest for just a few templates. A template is nothing more than a specialized article. There may be a way to get them out of a download of the database as well though never having downloaded the whole of Wikipedia, I'm not sure on that one. See WP:DOWNLOAD for info on that. Dismas|(talk) 09:06, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- But beware: many of the most-used templates in Wikipedia are complicated beasts that use numerous other templates, so it may be difficult to get them working in another Wiki. --ColinFine (talk) 09:51, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- I would like to use Infoboxes. It doesn't seem like copy-pasting that will work? --123.236.177.234 (talk) 11:19, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Unless the infobox has another template imbedded in it, I don't know why it wouldn't work. If it did, you'd have to copy that template as well of course. Dismas|(talk) 19:32, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Reusing Wikipedia article content in a private wiki
[edit]I'm busy setting up a wiki for a disability support organisation. The members have a need to create information and guidance articles for people who are new to living with the particular condition. I would like to "seed" some of those articles with excerpts, or in some cases even entire articles, from Wikipedia. The members will then modify and adapt the content to suit their specific needs. Because these articles would most likely still contain passages from Wikipedia we have some doubts about the copyright status of the artices. Please advise. Roger (talk) 09:47, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- In general you can freely do so, as long as the source is acknowledged. See WP:Reusing Wikipedia content for more information. --ColinFine (talk) 09:52, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- That policy page isn't really clear about the copyright status of documents that use passages from Wikipedia, as distinct from republishing entire wikipedia articles. Can we claim full copyright or are we forced to use CC by SA for our entire work just because it contains some material from WP? If we can't fully copyright our articles then we'd rather use WP as a source the same way sources are used here by paraphrasing rather than copying - it just means a lot more work and time... Missing reference in Chinese Wikipedia 'Hong Kong Tramways'article
[edit]A few days ago there was a visible reference to a book called 'Amazing Ding Ding' in this page, but it has now gone. This book was only published in June of this year and I notice that The Centenary Date with Hong Kong Tramways, which was published in July is still there.
Can someone explain why this is, it is my belief that some sort of underhand practice has taken place here to deliberately remove the earlier book and if this is the case it renders Wikipedia useless in a free information world!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lurdenlaw (talk • contribs) 11:25, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- This help desk is for the English Wikipedia and I don't know Chinese. It was removed in this edit. You will have to discuss it at the Chinese Wikipedia. If you make absurd claims like the sixth most visited website in the World being useless because a link is removed from one of millions of pages then they may not take you seriously. Wikipedia is a wiki and things are changed or removed all the time for various reasons. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:45, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
With respect this is NOT a claim let alone an absurd one, for your information I was on the Chinese site and was linked back to here, hence my question. I appreciate that one of the main strengths of wikipedia is its ability to be edited by users, but if people start to edit it purely for their own (commercial) gain then that will render the article and by definition wikipedia useless over the long term. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lurdenlaw (talk • contribs) 11:50, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Whoever you are you certainly appear to be rather sad and somewhat pathetic person. If you look at the details of the books before you make wild accustaions you will see that I have NO vested interest in either book other than being a buyer of them and interested in fair play to both authors and if, as you claim, this site is only for the English Wikipedia and I can't edit the Chinese one then what's your problem? - It defines its own rgb color with

Product is dead, but no official word so nothing to document?
[edit]This has been bugging me for some time now but I don't really know what to do about it. Jumpgate is a game I used to play for a while. I came back to it and found it utterly dead. There has been absolutely no official word about it dying (all released employees mention strict NDAs) and the only place information is coming through is through third-person leaks posted semi-anonymously in forums. The main website is still up but all links are dead, officially due to a temporary server outage sometime last year. With this kind of situation, will the Wikipedia page always show it as currently active, as there are no citations to link to otherwise? As a side note, the article for its sequel is flagged as likely-dead. Odysseus (talk) 16:33, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

- Bah, I should have checked my sources again anyhow within the last couple months. User:Michelle19660620/Jan Hofmeyer Community Services
[edit]Hi there, I published an article for the 1st time last night. This is for my MBA project, but the article lasted about 5 minutes before it was deleted off the system again. I managed to publish a much shorter version and it seemed to have made it through the day. Q1: Is there anyone out there that can tell me if the shorter version is violating any Wikipedia rules? The new article is called Jan Hofmeyer Community Services and the older deleted version is currently in User:Michelle19660620/Jan Hofmeyer Community Services.
As I am unfamiliar with the site, I don't know if you are able to access the older document.
Q2: Are detail like the below allowed for the article on Wikipedia? Jan Hofmeyer Community Services (JHCS) is a non-racial charity organisation registered with the Department of Social Development as an independent non-profit organization on the 1 August 2000 [009/757/NPO], to uplift the marginalized communities of Jan Hofmeyer, Vredepark and Vrededorp. Since 20 June 2008 JHCS is also registered as a section 21 Company. The organisation is registered with SARS in terms of section 18a of the income tax act.
Help will be much appreciated. Michelle
- My guess is that the article was deleted because it did not demonstrate that its subject was notable, and that the current version Jan Hofmeyer Community Services will soon be deleted for the same reason. (Ordinary editors, like me, do not have access to deleted articles.) Maproom (talk) 18:41, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Brown University people entry literature

It is important. My entry was removed (due to placing it myself? or due to the fact that Shangri-la was cited as the official sequel to LOST HORIZON--there is only one book possible for that title, this book, due to the fact that it was published by William Morrow NY, the publishers of James Hilton's original and they were the only folks along with the estate of JHilton who could approve it), therefore, however, all my information is correct and my name should be entered in that site along with my literary (major publishings available on Amazon for credence) accomplishments. Please help me to get on the site or provide someone (other than myself) that might be able to write and submit this piece. Many friends and fans of the books have asked why my name does not appear on the Brown University people list/literature. - The article in question is List of Brown University people, and I assume you are Daniel Altieri. There is no Wikipedia article about you, as there is about almost all the others listed in the article – this explains why your name does not appear on the list. Maproom (talk) 19:50, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Thankyou Maproom: it is true. There are no books about me. However, my name lined with Brown and graduation can be sited in several places including Dan Altieri 1971 John Hay Library archives for a published thesis. The books and at least several of their foreign titles with my authorship are available throughout the web: i.e: Dan Altieri COURT OF THE LION (by the way named to best historical fiction lists); also Dan Altieri DECEPTION: A novel of murder and madness in T'ang China or DIE EISERNE KAISERIN (a huge success), or Dan Altieri L'EMPERATRICE DES MENSONGES, OR Dan Altieri SHANGRI-LA" the return to the world of LOST HORIZON--etc..I do not know how else to provide proof or verification--as a scholar and writer, one of the things we love about Wikipedia is its constant work to retain honesty and authenticity, but how might Daniel P. Altieri (A.M. 1971) be put into its proper place without the unneutrality of nepotism--all this information is easily verifiable. The publishers used to put out write ups all around the world but I would jnhot know how to collect them all--There was William Morrow in NY 1988, 1991, 1994, along with Michael Joseph Viking Penguin, UK 1989, as well as Bertelsmann (Europe--parent countryof Random House and owner of our major imprints in Europe (well, many of them). My name is everywhere. Please help me--this Brown network is most important and my place on it most most deserved--and this is one case where I must self-promote. Years ago our dear friend's father wrote the screenplay for Lawrence of Arabia--due to the blacklist his name was excised, I am not saying that this is happening now, only an honest search for truth in information. But this is the truth and it is sad to be constantly deleted--I was careful to avoid any statements that were not readily available. \By the way the eNY Times Notable book for Shangri-La: read--"...beautiful and subtle." I just would most love your help to finally get up on that much deserved list. Thankyou, Wikipedia rocks and you folks too Dan Dear Maproom_I did remember something, Dan, here again: there are several mentions of Daniel Altieri author in Wikipedia: One referring to the Precious Consort (the real one in China long ago), does mention THE COURT OF HE LION and another a very brief one mentions SHANGR-LA in the sequels part of the James Hilton article when it says there are only two sequels to LOST HORIZON--my name appears there as well with Eleanor Cooney--however, in truth, there is really only one sequel that was authorized by HIlton family and publisher and that is Shangri-La, the other "Messenger" was not officially approved-so perhaps that article mention needs emmendment. Thanks again Dan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Preciousconsort (talk • contribs) 21:26, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- I don't have any doubt that you wrote those books, and that you graduated from Brown when you say you did. But a mention in the List of Brown University people article will (in my opinion) require an article about you; I assume that the lack of such an article is why MikeWazowski (who I believe is an ordinary human Wikipedia editor) keeps deleting your name from the list. An article about you will require evidence of your "notability". This must involve third-party citations. And "third-party" excludes Amazon, which sells your books; and your publishers; and even Wikipedia itself. A review of one of your books, particularly in a respected publication like the NYRB, would count.
- I can't create an article about you myself, as I know nothing about you and have never read any of your books. But I can warn you of the obstacles in creating an article. If you read the whole of this help page, you will see several complaints from new editors who have created an article, failed to demonstrate notability, and found it has been deleted. Maproom (talk) 23:04, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Thankyou Maproom: and editor MikeWazowski: I appreciate your task and understand the way this must proceed & I appreciate that you have stayed with me on this most important quest and do need toresolve it . Therefore, for a start, I am going to dig up (although many in storage), after so many years, a few of the reviews of notability from U.S. newspaper publications and Foreign ones may still be immediately available--thankyou and please stay with me as I shall attempt to properly resolve this174.62.64.19 (talk) 18:06, 13 August 2012 (UTC)presciousconsort Dan
Dear OrangeMike:and Maproom: I enjoyed reading the little blog.about Orange mike And to everyone helping me here--Maproom and MikeWazowski et.al.it is great to see the human side, right behind this immense human/computer accomplishment of Wikipedia. Briefly, I was not writing very much about myself, but by simply putting the book titles and my date at Brown etc. and knowing it was in red color, I hoped that "Someone might pick up the ball and edit a legitimate piece". I was happy for the red color--please someone out there, you know me--edit this article make it "blue". Left alone, I feel that I might be forgotten. Did I mention that both COURT OF THE LION and DECEPTION/IRON EMPRESS and many titles in Europe achieved the distinction of garnering the best consistent reviews around the world for the publishing house back then. And that these first two works were highly acclaimed critically around the world. In fact Deception, titled Eiserne Kaiserin was touted on the same page in Die Spiegel in Germany as Schindler's List. But I felt that if I did not pull it together to make a bit of controversy, there would be no one out there who would remember me for the list.In England, when the British version of COURT OF THE LION came out, the entire staff of Michael Joseph, Viking Penguin stood up and applauded as we literary novices entered the room and the Publisher rode down in the elevator to offer a bottle of wine--these moments are lost, but at least to be on the notable list of Brown Students would be some remembrance, some honest worthy compensation. But how to remind people? I am not cool or hip, -- but seems the books were, very evidentally. But now, but for A few people each week visiting the Kindle ebook sites where many of the international reviews were gathered, that is all. I needed to start something--and being not computer savvy--but knowing everything I would say to be the truth as my temporary Brown People Entry list only mentions the nameof the books, there was little room for self-promotion. Hey, remember me, dear Brown, we sold several (low) million copies and the San Jose Mercury News on a sunday said..." the best book of...and Le Figaro in Paris...wow! Best historical books lists, Alas...But who would remember if not for that rewarding little line in Brown notables, so I dove in, broke the rule but knew that I was down in the color red and as yet unconfirmed, and unauthenticated, and hoped it was a "red flag" so that someone would go, oh yeah, let me confirm this stuff about this guy? Those were great books. We were even put on the short list for the BOOKER PRIZE (but no one would know as it was an error of nationality, obvious ly long ago in 1989-90some over-eager but well-meaning British judges jumped the gun without seeing that the coauthors were American. But simply because they enjoyed the reads... nice feeling for the moment, but well, it too, was never recorded. Someone, out there, from U.S. France, England Germany where ever you might be, maybe some way we will make the list? I have enjoyed this time with all of you, and look forward to continuing to hear from you a I solve the list citation problem. You are doing great work--no kidding here. Sincerely174.62.64.19 (talk) 20:34, 13 August 2012 (UTC) Preciousconsort Dan
Dear Maproom: Thankyou for your response regards a review of quality for my verification. I have many such prestigious reviews on the lines of NYRB from around the world, how and where would I cite them?Where would I put them? I have the general year placed journal or major paper that the reviews appear, the authors etc. Inorder for my Brown people list entry to be returned, should I replace my name on list? (that sounds wrong) and then add these great review cites so that an editor can check them and decide against further deletion? How? Where?174.62.64.19 (talk) 19:01, 14 August 2012 (UTC) Dan
- You begin by requesting the creation of an article about you at Wikipedia:Requested articles (obviously, disclosing fully your own conflict of interest). At that point, offer as much specific information useful in the creation of an article as possible. Thus: don't say, New York Review of Gallimaufry reviewed This Book of Mine sometime in the 1980s; because that doesn't help. Instead, we need to know the usual reference information, i.e.:
- Fonebone, Cunigonde. "This Book of Mine Cures Warts in Toads, May Inspire Global Reunification" New York Review of Gallimaufry March 17, 1987 (Vol. 139, No. 17); p. 43, col. 4.
- Once there is an article about you here, then it would be appropriate for somebody (preferably somebody other than yourself) to add your name to the long illustrious list of Brown alumns. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:50, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thankyou OrangeMike (by theway, much enjoyed the very hip picture of you). The odd thing is that I am not so much requesting a full article about me,(I understand tahtisthe process) and there already articles about the Books COURT OF THE LION and DECEPTION etc. galore. There are even mentions of the books in other Wikpedia articles: Court of the Lion is mentioned in Wikipedia article of Yang Guifei; Deception of L'Imperatrice des mensonges (French bestselling title of same) is mentioned in Wikipedia article of Juge Ti (Judge Dee); Shangri-la is mentioned (erroneously, this article needs a major correction and apology to us --the authors) Wikipedia in James Hilton sequels article. Yes, I would appreciate it if someone would [please reverse the deletion from the Brown U. List, that is sufficient mention for me for now--unless someone wants to write yet another story about TheCOURT OF THE LION, or DECEPTION /Eiserne Kaiserin novels etc.(my/our critically acclaimed novels of China.) However, as I can cite (many more than I can list from all over the world, references to the notable level of critical achievement for the first three books mentioned in my (alas, deleted Brown LIst): OK for Shangri-la Kirkus Reviews, "Shangri-la: the return tothe world of Lost Horizon," Kirkus Reviews Review post Kirkus Reviews Issue Feb. 15th 1996; for The COURT OF THE LION: Publishers Weekly Issue Jan. ?1988 (spectacular praise, for DECEPTION: a novelof murder and madness in T'ang China in Kirkus Reviews, review posts, Kirkus Review Issue March 1, 1993. I don't care about an article about myself but anyone who is familiar can write about these highly reviewed books. I had to get file folders for the sheer amount of review material worldwide from press and newspaper coverage. pleaes continue until Iam back up on the list. Dear SarahStierch: Thankyou for your response. I have appreciated the well-meaning and helpful advice from the editorial staff. I was hoping that the sheer amount of notoriety received in literary critics review material much of it posted on the web from Parisian papers Le Figaro, German Die Spiegel, To London Times, Publisher's weekly, Kirkus reviews and many many newspapers, and the remarks and reviews keep coming long after these bookswere published--nevertheless,I was hoping that the notoriety of the books themselves would have provided already ascertainlable proof of my legitimacy and "notability", without an article asn such--MAPROOM said if I could come upwith one gret prestigious review cited, that would be proof enough, I got a hundred of them--how to proceed and get back on the list--through out the late 80's and through the 90's the books were praised,staggeringly--comparedtoNameof the Rose, Better tha Shogun etc etc. etc. the reviews iwere ncredible, awesome (if you will excuse) even from the perspectives of the most hardened of lit agents and editors inNY back then.
But about me, what would there be to say. I wrote them and coauthored them and am writing new works and painted large Chinese brush landscapes and visited China and translated Chinese and Japanese that appears inthe novels, my very self. Rode some fine horses, danced ballet (really), and, much earlier on attended Brown (with degrees), University of Pennsylvania, Indiana University's daunting Asian studies department and others in other fields, etc etc. and went on to lecture a bit and then simply lay low and created and wrote... so who cares about me, it is the books that have achieved the notableness--but that should carry me onto the list? Shouldn't it...Heavens, I didn't found a city, or start a great institution (had lots of fans, can't speak for them) or anything...so where to go from here to get on my rightful place in the list? Where can I gather and post some of the most easily accessible of my prestigious reviews..,?Or why doesn't anyone just click on Daniel Altieri author. They'll keep coming--match them with COURT OF THE LION or DIE EISERNE KAISERIN or L'IMPERATRICE des MENSONGES or SHANGRI_LA or HELP!!! Onward and hopefully upward. What's a fellow gotta do?--Did i mention Best histortical ficition lists (several)...and 174.62.64.19 (talk) 23:54, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
