Hi Eb, sorry to leave you hanging in the breeze like that. I'm in South Africa, and our hours don't correspond that well with the U.S. I feel I owe you some explanation. The editors working on new articles for creation sometimes have to get through a LOT of articles in a short time. We see an awful lot of self-promotion stuff coming in, whether by individuals or companies, and it gets to be a reflex: advert - decline. Especially on a first-time submission. Most people do not - as you DID - look at what's wanted first. I thought it looked a bit better than average, but that didn't stop me hitting the decline button.
However, that said, you came back to me and the moment you do that you move from the 80% random self-promoting chancers to the 20% who are serious about their article! That's when we start to talk. I am glad you got some help in the meantime. If you are in a rush, the live chat is a far better way to go. When you believe you are ready to resubmit, you might drop me a line, and I will take a careful look at it. That would be better than just throwing it into the reviewer pool again! I will usually catch a request within about 24 hours of your placing it, so it does not take all that long. I can't promise, not yet having seen the finished product, that I will accept it at that point, but going by your tone and your apparent willingness to work on it, I think it's likely that it will be acceptable, or will perhaps just need one or two final improvements to be ready. - Hi Ed, I have asked IShadowed what you actually did since, while I have a theory, I can't actually tell for certain! However, your article is still present in your own Sandbox, which is all you need at the moment. Meantime, don't worry about the warning. Whatever you did has already been deleted! I will have a look at the article in the meanwhile. For future reference, you can do one of two things:
- a) Just write the article in your sandbox, as you have done. That is fine. We can always either submit it for review or create it from there later.
- b) You can also create a draft article page under your User name (in your own user space). For example, from your userpage you can add on to the end of your userpage address in your browser address window, so that it looks like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ebdavids/My New Article and then go there. The page doesn't exist, so you choose to Start the page or Create the page, depending on how you've arrived there. Start typing, or paste in some text, and save. The page is now created in your User space, and no one will bother you on it until you want to submit it for review, or until it is created in Wikipedia article space. [edit]I don't know -- maybe because it's been a busy day and my brain is fried (NOT ewntirely because of Wiki), but I didn't quite get what you were suggesting I do on my User page to create a draft article. (I copied and pasted the URL you built for me and it didn't create anything on Wikipediae) -- but if it's OK for the moment that I create the next article (Gil Priel) in my Sandbox as well and transmit it to you for review (as I believe you're doing with Eli Tene's, then I see that as the easiest course for me to follow. - Hi Ed, ok I found out from IShadowed what you did, which was accidentally to create a mainspace article with the title of Wikipedia_Sandbox. (Don't worry about it, I'm pretty sure new users do it a lot.) And as you saw, it wasn't long before someone came along and deleted it. When editors see something like that, it is usually an automatic delete, and usually described as deleting a test edit.
- I have made five edits to your sandbox:
- first to fix your little formatting problem; you have to use the asterisk for bullets.
- second to delete your entire paragraph on the PCN structure and entities, because this is too close to marketing. This article is about Eli Tene, not all about his business! I believe you have covered the PCN story adequately for this article in the Career section. Please note my fourth edit: wikilinks.
- third, I did a relatively minor notability edit and some streamlining in the lead para. I dumped the Tenfold thing because it has only just been established, and will not have had a chance to establish any real notability on its own. Of course, I may be wrong, in which case feel free to put it back - so long as you provide the references to show why you had to mention it!
- fourth, I added wikilinks to the first mentions of things where Wikipedia pages exist. This includes Peak Corporate Network, so readers who want to know more about that can get there with a click.
- fifth and finally, I have added the infobox (please populate the empty fields so far as possible. If you lack information, no problem, empty fields will not display) and the Persondata templates. The latter is right at the bottom of the page, and does not normally display on the article; it is only used for sorting and categorizing.
- Of course, once you know how, you can do all this for yourself! For Priel's article infobox, for example, I suggest copy and paste Tene's infobox, and then edit the content. Ditto for the Persondata template. Be sure you include the double curly brackets which both open and close the template content! The quickest way to learn anything is to look at the edit page and see how it's done. The Tene article as I have left it is actually ok to go online, if you are happy with it. Oh yeah, the Cheat Sheet on wiki formatting is very useful, and if you need more there is a link from there to the full instruction page. Let me know when you want to create the article. [edit]Article has been created. Great job, there was very little I really had to do. Had this article come up in AfC it might well have passed; without the Peak Corporate Network section, it would certainly have passed any reviewer. So, next time, you are going to create your own article on Priel (I will talk you through it when you are ready), and then you are on your own. Unless, of course, you need help suddenly! I think, for your convenient reference when you are looking for anwers, I'm also going to hit your Talk page with the big welcome screen, the one with all the references to helpful pages! - Hi Ed, you should know that a passing editor warned me that there might be a copyvio (copyright violation) issue on the Eli Tene article in the Career section. This is a serious charge, because copyvio is one of the things for which articles can be deleted without discussion. This seems to have been because of shared text with the Peak Corporate Network article. I have edited that part of the text to make sure it is different enough to pass any copyvio accusation. For your future reference, the quickest way to check for any copyvio is to search on whole sentences or long phrases on Google or Bing, and see what else comes up.
- I have also changed back the section headings you capitalized, because WP:MOS guideline says that in phrases only the first word is capitalized.
- There was an objection to your YouTube reference (I think just because it was YouTube) but this is a video of a news broadcast, so I think we can keep that in.
- P.S. IMPORTANT: Dougweller, who is an Administrator and has a lot of experience on WP, has advised that even directly linking to copyrighted material on an unofficial site can also be considered copyvio! - An article on ET was created in 2008 (something I was not aware of) and was deleted after an AfD (Articles for Deletion) nomination and discussion. This could somewhat prejudice the matter IF your ET article should be nominated, but your ET article should not be nominated, and has the substance necessary to stand against an AfD nomination. If you need to respond in an AfD discussion, then you must make points ONLY in direct accordance with WP policy. One key point is that any biographical article which has at least one statement about the subject which is properly substantiated by an independent, reliable, widely published source, must NOT be deleted. In the case of your ET article, the Ynet reference alone would be sufficient. In conclusion, you need to make sure not to borrow text wholesale from other articles (PCN)! Technically, since you are the author of both, you are allowed to, but it is not worth the risk of another WP editor jumping to conclusions and speedily deleting your article. Look at the current history of Eli Tene and see the Edit Summary statements which I and others have put in, explaining what we edited and why. You should also get into the habit of labelling your edits in the same way. See also my talk page for the discussion with User:Dougweller. I, too, assumed it was OK for me, as the author, to use some same copy in describing identical aspects/subjects in different but related articles, but I appreciate your caution. Peak article: way ahead
[edit]Ok, I have consulted with Dougweller, and got someone else to look at it as well, and Doug is basically right (although I still think he cut too much, and I've told him so!). He is willing to review his edits, although you should know that most of his cuts will stay in place. What you need to do is to locate, or reinstate if they are relevant, reliable sources which go to the notability of PCN. I have looked, and cannot find anything online which is truly independent. There are, for example, press releases on news sites, but they originate with PCN or its subsidiaries, and are therefore not independent. I am sure that there are some print sources which you had (unless I'm thinking of someone else). For now, I suggest just list them at the bottom of the article and make a comment when you save the page (Edit Summary) to the effect of Please don't delete: to be incorporated, or some such. If you can incorporate those refs immediately, then do that. I have work I need to do now, so will be offline until tonight, about 10 hours from now. PS Where have you put the Priel article? I can't find it! If it is not yet on WP, I suggest save it as a user sub-page: go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ebdavids/Gil_Priel (never mind the red link, go there anyway! Click on "Start the User:Ebdavids/Gil Priel page" and paste in your content, then SAVE the page. This creates the page in your user space. If you want to make quite sure no one tampers with it in the meantime, tag it by inserting the {{User draft}} template at the top. (The latter will not protect an article in Main space). How to create your own article
[edit]Hi Ed, let's see if you're ready for this!
You are a registered user who has enough edits and now knows enough about Wikipedia to be allowed to create articles for yourself.
Your GP article is not perfect, but it's close enough. (I would have said a little less about PCN, and a bit more about Priel's Perspective, but it's your article!)
Your article is currently a subpage to your user page.
Your userpage: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ebdavids"
This is a subpage: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ebdavids/Any_subpage_title_here"
You create an article by "Moving" it (NEVER by cut and paste!). It is good practice to first check and see that there is not already an existing article by that name (or a very similar name, which might mean someone has already written the article you had in mind).
- Keep these instructions handy, and open User:Ebdavids/Gil Priel in a new tab or window.
- In the article (/GP) window, look just to the left of the Wikipedia search field. There is a little black down arrowhead indicating a drop down menu. Click on that, and click on "Move".
- In the dialogue box you have two fields to worry about:
- Make sure the first field is selected as "Article" and not "User" (which is the default field from your starting position).
- Make sure the second field is just your article title eg Gil Priel. Whether or not you use an underscore to separate the words does not matter: it will display the same, and will work the same. Make sure that your username does NOT appear in the second field (it will be there by default for any subpage).
The rest is not critical, but to be fully correct (and so you aren't left wondering!):
- In "reason for move" type something like "new article creation".
- If your subpage talk page has been used to discuss the article in development, then you DO want to move the talk page with the article. Otherwise you don't want to.
- For pages that you have created, you usually DO want them on your watch list.
- Click on "Move page".
Provided that there is no collision with a pre-existing article (or redirect) with the same name, Wikipedia will do the rest. If there is such a collision, the move will be aborted and everything will be reset to the way it was before the move was attempted. In that case you go and ask for help, which will usually be forthcoming.
Congratulations - you should now have created your own article, and can use the same procedure for other articles in future.

P.S. Don't forget, after creating your new article, to remove (delete in edit view) any tags which no longer belong there, such as the User draft tag, or perhaps the sandbox tag. [edit]Yep, it feels great to have seen Gil Priel posted, completing (pending predatory editors!) the Peak Trilogy for the moment.
Here's the follow-up question I mentioned may come to you: Eli Tene, who apparently is happy with his bio article, has asked about having it translated into Hebrew. Not intending to bother you again so soon, I did some due diligence into what would be involved (to begin with, though I'm a pretty-much lapsed Jew, my knowledge of the Hebrew language doesn't go much beyond "shalom") and found a few things on Wikipedia:Translate us and (though it's about translations in the other direction) Wikipedia:Translations. They provide the Wiki basics on how to transfer and tag articles, cautions and sensitivities in actually doing the translation, etc.
But that's not the totality of what I was looking for. What's clear to me is that if Tene is to get what he wants, he'll need the assistance of someone fluent in Hebrew and English AND in working in Wikipedia (and, of course, with the appropriate equipment/keyboard), both to do and format the original translation and to be able to receive and react to subsequent editorial comments, if any.
My question to you is -- are you aware of a spot in the Encyclopedia where people volunteer/make themselves available to do translations from English into other languages, hopefully including Hebrew for he.wikipedia? I don't know if this has come up much or at all for you (perhaps, in RSA, from English to Dutch or vice versa?) but I thought with your greater familiarity with and travels throughout Wiki, you might be able to point me somewhere...
Of course, if the answer is "no, that doesn't exist in Wikipedia." I'll totally accept that and they advise Eli Tene Plan B (For instance, checking around for, as I said to them, "Some Jewish, geeky son or daughter of one of Eli's friends," or something like that!)

Made minor changes. Having trouble formatting a couple of footnotes.

A year or so ago, I created the item entitled Eli Tene. After initial acceptance, with some minor revisions a long time ago, it has existed without edits for quite a while. That was my first experience with writing for Wikipedia, but i was proud to have gotten through!
Today I went back to the article to make some simple changes -- a couple of changes in text and the addition of two references to back up the new information. The text edits seem to have gone through smoothly, but unfortunately, I've gotten a bit rusty and couldn't exactly remember how to format and add the footnotes correctly. (I tried to look it up in Help, but apparently didn't do the right thing.)
If you loom at the piece, you will see the text edits I made. Here is what I tried to do, but got an error message I couldn't understand (so I deleted the "try" from the piece). There are three footnotes I would like to add, all of then links to websites of the organization concerned.
(a) In the introductory blurb (above the contents box), after the footnote that's already there, I would like to add this footnote: http://www.israeliamerican.org/honorary-board-of-directors
(b) And in the Community involvement section, after Friends of the Israel Defense Forcesreference, I would like to add these two footnotes: http://www.fidf.org/page.aspx?pid=266 and http://www.fidf.org/chapters/los-angeles/la_gala_2013
I am completely stymied as to how to do this correctly. Can you guide me or -- better yet -- please insert them for me, and then remind me what to do next -? (Or do i just SAVE the changes you or I make?)
