- My guess is because you marked the change as minor. The edit is clearly not vandalism, but because so many lines were altered you tripped the filter. " The Memoirs of Virginia Lord' a book about a time when love was innocent
{placeholder}
- This would be deleted for multiple reasons: One, it is largely copy pasted from http://www.amazon.com/Memoirs-Virginia-Lord-Marianne-Pilgrim/dp/1452802742; two, it doesnt really read like an encyclopedia article or tell us more about the book. Try looking at other pages for novels such as Catch_that_Rabbit (random example, I havent read it myself). Thirdly it doesnt indicate notability. A book that nobody other than the publisher has been promoting is not likely to survive on Wikipedia irrespective of any other qualities of its article. —Soap— 16:36, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I was attempting to edit the character 'Danny' under 'Minor Characters' on the Wiki page for List of Trailer Park Boys Characters. I was attempting to add the following bit of additional detail:
"Most commonly he can be heard screaming "WHAT IN THE FUCK" and "FUCK OFF WITH THE GUNS" whenever something goes wrong. Occasionally he screams longer monologues, such as in "A Man's Gotta Eat," the same episode where he is referred to by name (for the first time) by Ricky after three seasons of anonymity. Danny can also be heard screaming in jail when the hockey game gets canceled in Trailer Park Boys: The Movie."

I can't possibly imagine why the edit would not be allowed unless, of course, Wikipedia itself subscribes to Marxist theory.

Hi There,
I bought my pikelet cd, and found her page deleted when i looked her up on wikipedia. She may may not be setting the world on fire in Louisiana, but here on the other side of the world (Melbourne, Australia), she has achieved some degree of "importance [and] significance".
A quick google reveals that she has had articles written about her in Melbourne's main broadsheet ,and elsewhere over the past 3 years, and played at Melbourne's main Arts Festival
A quick look at her Myspace page reveals that she has released 2cds on the Chapter Music Label.

- I can confirm Iamany's false positive. A spam-only account created his spam biography at WP:UPDC. Apparently replacing the entire content of a namespace page didn't trigger the filter, but when Iamany tried to revert it, the edit filter caught the reversion and reported it to AIV. As an admin I'm whitelisted, so I reverted the spam bio (and sent him a {{UsernameHardBlocked}} for New Year's Eve. :-)
- Something to think about: the first admin who responded to the AIV report couldn't really tell if this was vandalism or not, so making the details a little more user-friendly would be a great help for newbie admins. KrakatoaKatie 03:37, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

- Description
- So, I left a friendly message for RJaguar3 explaining the issues with the Pufc template, due to date formating issues. After I added the message, I realized that putting a demonstration for Pufc on the talk page, I had now put the talk page into a bunch of Pufc categories. So, I went back to try to modify my message, to show the output, rather than transclude the template, and I was repeatedly blocked. Finally, I was able to at least disable the templates by removing one of the {} on each side, but now it just looks stupid, since it's not showing anything useful. I would like to replace the first "pufc" example with "Error: Invalid time", since that is what it produces, and the second with "the desired result", since it does what you want. I understand you are trying to keep folks from removing these tags, but it seems a bit extreme if I am the one who added it by mistake in the first place.

I was against the creation of this filter but there's not much I can do about it. The "nowiki" tags are sometimes used by vandals to make a page unreadable, and therefore their use has been greatly restricted, even though they have legitimate uses. Is there a way to get the message you want to write without using "nowiki"? —Soap — 16:37, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- It wasn't the "nowiki" that triggered it, but the removal of "{pufc", as far as I can tell. For example, I was able to do this, but I couldn't replace the tags completely (or remove the final set of curly braces). 134.253.26.11 (talk) 16:42, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- No, that wouldn't trigger any filter. The thing is that this filter knows that false positives will come up, so it allows you to make a few edits but not too many in a row. So the nowiki is really the trigger, but it doesnt come to force until you've made three edits in a row with that in the text. —Soap— 16:47, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- So, does it time out? Will I be able to fix it if I wait a bit? 134.253.26.11 (talk) 16:49, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for letting us know, but it's not possible for the filter to be able to tell whether you're deleting a spurious reference table or a good one. It also seems that the edits it tagged were not deletion, but simply changing the spelling of "references" to "refernces", which would mean the references section never ends. —Soap— 16:50, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

- Description
- I was trying to move the whole article to "Chicanery (band)", since the word "Chicanery" on its own requires disambiguation. I changed the "Chicanery" page to a disambiguation format, and created a new page "Chicanery (band)" which was linked to by the disambiguation page.
- Date and time
- 17:29, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Comments
The standard way to do this would be to move the old page to the new title, and then rewrite the now-empty Chicanery as a disambiguation page. That way the edit histories of the articles are in their proper place. The edit filter would not stop that. But if there is no such page as legal chicanery then I would hold off until an article is written before creating a disambiguation page. It is not necessary to have articles for all English words, in fact some of them are specifically protected against creation (though pages for them exist on Wiktionary). —Soap— 18:14, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

- I apologize, but there's not much that can be done about false positives like this because there's no way for the filter to know if a page has old edits or not. Large edits could be excluded, but I believe that there are some people who watch this filter for the sake of protecting people's privacy and they would want the large edits in. In any case, a vandalism as blatant as this will be reverted very quickly by those using automated tools. —Soap— 22:50, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I replaced capitalized surnames (and it got past the filter). Sorry!
- I was about ready to say, decapitalize the surnames and the filter won't trip. —Jeremy (v^_^v Hyper Combo K.O.!) 05:11, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

- A duplication of the text appearing in the summary had been pasted into the 'Notes' section below it. This did not include any special markup (hyperlinks/proper references). It was removed, but with warning that the error may not be minor (likely due to the quantity of text being deleted).

Thanks for reporting this. I see that the template has a "suggestions" link in the bottom
But there's not really anything that can be done since it's an automated process and can't tell one kind of deletion from another. This is one of those filters that I would rather we do without, but I can't go around disabling everything I don't like. Sorry for the inconvenience. —Soap— 22:18, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

- Twin Peaks (filter log) (redo)
- Description
- My purpose was to add details from the New York Times about the Japanese VHS and laserdisc releases. Prior editors has spun-off such details to Twin Peaks media releases. I noticed that Twin Peaks had significant duplicate content between the two, content that later caused the main article to be updated without keeping Twin Peaks media releases up-to-date. I attempted to rectify the situation by removing most of that section's content from Twin Peaks and updating Twin Peaks media releases with both the new details I was added as well as the details previously added only to the main article.
Of course the edit filter was triggered, which has happened in the past in such situations. In the recent past, I circumvent the problem by re-enabling cookies, and after another check-in attempt or two my content has been accepted. Apparently, the filter rules have changed, and my workaround no longer works, a blow against WP:Anyone can edit. If Special:AbuseFilter/30 had been just a little bit more patient, Special:AbuseFilter/279 wouldn't have to have been invoked, and I wouldn't have lost my work on Twin Peaks. Please consider relaxing rules for filter 30 a bit to allow someone with cookies off to turn them on and have a few more changes of getting past rule 30 before the situation is escalating. Thanks.

- Edit filter 30 triggers on blanking large portions of a page, and only affects unregistered and newly-registered users. To avoid filter 30, you'll need to log in. —Jeremy (v^_^v Hyper Combo K.O.!) 04:15, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- What you say is true but not to the point. What makes this a false positive is that the filter system failed to recognize the change as legitimate. As I said before, the way the system used to work is that I enabled cookies, then apply my changes again. This time, that workaround failed. Since WP:SS is still a guideline, I either need this to be recognized as a false positive since it didn't let me follow the WP:SS guideline, or advice as to what an IP editor can do to work around the filter system in this kind of case. Thanks. 67.100.125.194 (talk) 21:46, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'll ask again, in another way. I was following WP:SS and triggered an edit filter for blanking out a portion of a page. Since summarizing a section requires "blanking large portions", I request that the edit filter be changed to allow an IP editor to summarize a section. I was happy with the workaround that used to exist (described above) and am hoping either the earlier version could be reinstated or some alternative can be found. Thanks. 67.100.127.117 (talk) 09:04, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- That can't be done w/o rendering the filter inoperable as the filter cannot differentiate between summarizing and blanking (as retarded as that may sound), as removing so much as one paragraph trips the filter. —Jeremy (v^_^v Hyper Combo K.O.!) 09:11, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- All I can add is that it's normal to accumulate edit filter hits over time, as many of our more active users already have. Here's mine: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:AbuseLog&wpSearchUser=Soap (a few of those were deliberate, to test things, but most aren't). —Soap— 13:01, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Also, this filter hasn't changed since April. I'm not sure what you mean about using cookies, but it shouldn't have any bearing on whether your edit is tagged or not . —Soap— 13:04, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

- The filter thought he was the tennis guy. NawlinWiki will know who I'm talking about. As for the edit itself, I don't speak Romanian, but do you (Vvvladut)? I see no hits on Google for the "aerien" spelling, but only one for the "aerian" spelling. I would expect the name of a division of the WW2 military to appear more than once in all of the Internet. —Soap— 12:29, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Therefore I have spent the whole day writing a page about it (I am a amateur knife maker and stabilize my own wood and have done over 2 years of research on the subject) that goes over its history and what it means, how it works and the market forces present and past.
When I tried to save the page it rejected it for some reason. So here I am
