From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Welcome to my userpage!

My username is SoCalSuperEagle. As you can probably tell from my username, I live in Southern California. I am a huge fan of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles; this is reflected by the "SuperEagle" portion of my username.

I became a member of Wikipedia in December 2006, and I have been active since July 2009. So if you have any questions regarding how a particular feature of Wikipedia works, I may be able to help. In addition, if I do something wrong, please feel free to let me know right away; I will be happy to listen to you as long as you are civil and do not attack me.

Thanks for stopping by my userpage. Please feel free to look around. Happy editing! (But please don't mess up my userpage, okay?)

My activities at Wikipedia

[edit]

I currently devote most of my time at Wikipedia to fighting against both vandalism and spam. In the process, I help patrol the article creation log, the user creation log, and the edit filter log. Whenever I find sufficient evidence that a particular user may be abusing multiple accounts, I do not hesitate to open a sockpuppetry investigation. I also post comments at the incidents noticeboard whenever I feel that my opinions would be helpful.

When I'm not doing any of the above, I will usually be creating, expanding, or improving Pokémon-related articles, as I am a huge fan of Pokémon. I am also interested in working on articles related to professional sports in the USA and Japan, as well as articles about various travel-related subjects such as highways. I also participate in various article deletion discussions and help review various submissions at the Articles for creation project.

Articles that I have started

[edit]

Here is the list of articles that I have started on the English-language Wikipedia (in chronological order):

Toolboxes for all "vandal fighters" and other patrollers

[edit]

The following is a bunch of stuff that should be useful to all "vandal fighters" and other patrollers, new or experienced.

Pages that should be patrolled frequently

[edit]
Page name and/or location What to watch out for
Special:Log/newusers
(The user creation log)
  • Misleading, promotional, offensive, and/or disruptive usernames (see username policy for details)
  • Usernames that appear to be e-mail addresses or URLs
  • Usernames that suggest that an account represents an organization or group
  • Usernames that are patent nonsense and/or confusing (such usernames could be red flags for vandalism or other problems)
Special:NewPages
(The new pages log)
  • Pages that meet one or more criteria for speedy deletion (including patent nonsense, attack pages, and blatant hoaxes)
  • Pages that constitute examples of what Wikipedia is not (such as how-to guides and definitions of made-up words)
  • Pages about subjects that do not meet the notability guidelines
  • Pages with unsourced content that appear to be unverifiable
Special:AbuseLog
(The edit filter log)
  • Continued vandalism attempts by users who have already been given final warnings to stop
  • Several disruptive editing attempts by one user that repeatedly trigger the edit filters (especially if the attempted unconstructive edits are egregious in nature)
  • Evidence that a single user may be abusing multiple accounts

Where to seek help from administrators

[edit]
Noticeboard Description
Administrator intervention against vandalism (AIV) Use this noticeboard to report blatant and persistent vandalism and spamming. Please note that edit warring, content disputes, and good-faith editing attempts are not vandalism.
Usernames for administrator attention (UAA) Use this noticeboard to report new usernames that are clearly inappropriate and constitute blatant violations of the username policy.
Sockpuppet investigations (SPI) Use this noticeboard to report suspected abuse of multiple accounts. Please note that a user is permitted to hold multiple accounts provided that none are being used in a disruptive or forbidden manner.
Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring (ANEW) Use this noticeboard to report users who appear to be engaged in edit warring. Please note that edit wars may not necessarily include violations of the three-revert rule (3RR).
Requests for page protection (RFPP) Use this noticeboard to request temporary or indefinite protection of heavily-vandalized pages or pages that are experiencing edit wars. Move protection may be requested for pages that are experiencing pagemove revert wars. Create protection may be requested if a particular inappropriate page is being repeatedly recreated with the same title.
Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents (ANI) Use this noticeboard to report miscellaneous incidents that require administrator intervention, such as legal threats made by a user.
Steward_requests/Global Use this noticeboard to request a steward to globally-block an IP address or globally-lock a global account of a user who is found to abusing several wikis in addition to the English Wikipedia. (Please note that this noticeboard is located at Meta-Wiki.)

My custom user warning/notice templates

[edit]

I have developed a bunch of custom user notification templates for use in new pages patrol and in fighting vandalism. The templates can be viewed here.
