Wikipedia:About the Main Page
The Main Page is Wikipedia's home page for English-speakers. Besides by the link in the left sidebar, it can be accessed by typing en.wikipedia.org, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ (not specifying an article name in the URL), or going to www.wikipedia.org (not specifying a language in the URL) and clicking English (Clicking another language will take one to the main page for that language of Wikipedia.) at the top-left of the Wikipedia logo, and a link to it is displayed on Wikipedia's Bad title pages.
Uses
[edit]The Main Page is typically used to guide readers to high-quality articles. This includes feature articles and featured pictures.
History
[edit]The appearance of the main page has been updated with increased computer processing power. The current design was instituted in March 2006. Past versions of the main page are kept for reference and can be found here.
Deletion
[edit]The Main Page has been deleted a total of sixteen times.(LMFAO)[1] Because this is an extremely bad idea, coding was added to the software to prevent this from ever happening again.
Editability
[edit]Because of the Main Page's prominence, it is permanently fully protected. (Actually, it is technically cascade-protected, but because it is transcluded in five pages that are permanently transcluded, the Main Page is effectively permanently fully protected.)
