If you are nominating a featured topic, add the template {{FTCmain|ExampleTopicName|X}} to the talk page of the main article in the series you are nominating, where X is the desired archive number. If you are nominating a good topic, add the template {{GTCmain|ExampleTopicName|X}} instead. From there, click "leave comments".
If you are familiar with templates, make a topic box using {{Featured topic box}}; otherwise list the articles in the topic and another user will make the box for you. Put either the box or the list on the new page under the header: ===EXAMPLE TOPIC NAME===
Write your reason for nominating the topic below the heading, stating plainly whether the topic is a good or featured topic nomination (for archival purposes). Indicate which articles are Good Articles or Featured Articles/Lists, and save the sub-page.
Place {{Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/ExampleTopicName/archiveX}} (where X is the desired archive number) at the top of the list of nominees by first copying the above, clicking "edit" on the top of the candidates page, and then pasting, making sure to add the name of the nominated topic. While adding a candidate, mention the name of the topic in the edit summary.
Finally, add the template {{FTC|ExampleTopicName|X}} or {{GTC|ExampleTopicName|X}} (as appropriate) to the talk page of each remaining member article to let the editors of those articles know about the nomination.
Topics will move automatically from good to featured and vice versa if enough of their individual articles are promoted or demoted. No additional nominations are required for topics moving between the two.
(If subpage already exists) Change /addition1 to /addition2 or whatever the next free number is.
Add the following text to the new page making sure to change all of the example text. Include as many articles as you wish. In the last line (with the {{topicnom}} template), include both the existing topics and the new topics: ===EXAMPLE TOPIC NAME (xth supplementary nomination)=== {{Add to topic|EXAMPLE TOPIC NAME}} #[[EXAMPLE NEW ARTICLE 1]] #[[EXAMPLE NEW ARTICLE 2]]
Write your reason for nominating the new articles below the Featured topic box, sign, and save the sub-page. Indicate which articles are Good Articles or Featured Articles/Lists.
Place {{Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/EXAMPLE TOPIC NAME/addition1}} at the top of the list of nominees on WP:FTC or WP:GTC (as appropriate) by first copying the above, clicking "edit" on the top of that page, and then pasting, making sure to add the name of the nominated topic. Make sure to change /addition1 to whatever number you used. While adding a candidate, mention the name of the topic in the edit summary.
Add the template {{FTCaddmain|ExampleTopicName|1}} or {{GTCaddmain|ExampleTopicName|1}} (as appropriate) to the talk page of the main article in the series, and {{FTCadd|ExampleTopicName|1}} or {{GTCadd|ExampleTopicName|1}} (again, as appropriate) to the talk page of each new member article. Replace the number 1 with the actual addition number. This lets the editors of those articles know about the nomination.
Finally, go to the original archived discussion of the topic's successful nomination at Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/ExampleTopicName/archive1 and add the following to the bottom of the page after the discussion (changing the number of the addition as needed): ====Supplementary nominations==== #[[Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/EXAMPLE TOPIC NAME/addition1]]
This last step is necessary because templates on articles' talk pages link to the original archived discussion of the topic's successful nomination, so it needs to have links to supplementary nominations to allow future editors to examine the evolution of the topic as a whole.
Expanding the topic may require a name change of the topic itself. In this case, use the new name for the nomination, keep the old discussion on its original page, and add a redirect from the [[Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/NEW TOPIC NAME]] page to the original. If the name change passes, change the template on the talk pages of every member article, new and old, to reflect the new name.
If you are unable to follow the above procedure, add your topic and its articles on this page's talk page and mention that you would like to submit it, but that you don't know how. If someone else likes it, they will add it.
Update the {{ArticleHistory}} template on the talk pages of all articles in the topic. Remember to add both the action#= stats and the ftname= stats, and for the main article, ftmain=yes. Oldid is not required to be added in. Also remember to remove any FTC/GTC templates.
If the topic was a featured topic candidate, remove the {{FTC|ExampleTopicName}} and {{FTCmain|ExampleTopicName}} templates in the talk pages of member articles. If the topic was a good topic candidate, remove the {{GTC|ExampleTopicName}} and {{GTCmain|ExampleTopicName}} templates in the talk pages of member articles.
Update the {{ArticleHistory}} template on the talk pages of all articles in the topic.
