JohnCD

Hi, I have no intention of wandering around Wikipedia. One of the reasons to notify you was to have my father's accounts disabled. I'd be grateful if you could restore the changes I made to his talk page though, that message was important. There'll be no further activity from any account JohnCD may have had. All should be blocked forthwith. Robert — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.24.244.137 (talk) 14:35, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My talk page

Hey thanks for reverting that IP, yet again I must add. Seeing the recent IP's that have come to the page, is there a range that could be blocked for the time being or is that too much collateral damage? RickinBaltimore (talk) 13:15, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Something like this one, this one, or this one. There is some collateral if it's more than a few hours/days, but I'm of the opinion they can be applied whenever needed. And I'm also leaning towards applying a big long LTA block on both ranges. You aren't the only target, so semi-protection is less useful. An edit filter might be an option. I'd suggest, if I'm not around for the next one, immediately applying x.x.x.0/24 blocks as needed for several hours each (example). Ping to KrakatoaKatie for opinions on a longblock. -- zzuuzz (talk) 13:42, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't that what Wikipedia is? That's what I'm trying to do. Rude editors like yourself are not helping.184.145.42.19 (talk) 18:36, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't get written on ANI. I think you've misunderstood what I've done if you think that's rude. That place is mainly full of boomerangs. You are now free to continue contributing in a collaborative and respectful manner. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:42, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

said the user removing other people's comments. -- zzuuzz (talk) 14:34, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If I'm not mistaken, this user's edits match the MO Tile join sockpuppets historically used to become autoconfirmed. I don't know if that's enough evidence to earn them an indefinite block at this time, but I would like to see your opinion. Sro23 (talk) 02:29, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Sro23: The account is now blocked. Indeed it's very similar, but my money is on it not being Tile join. Per beans, but compare closely some of the accounts at Bethel Church, Mansfield Woodhouse - almost as obsessive as Mascot Guy. -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:53, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Glitch in the blocking code, or just a typo?

From the block log: "changed block settings for 192.0.2.16 (talk) with an expiration time of 4 decades, 7 years, 30 days, 54 minutes and 52 seconds (anon. only, account creation blocked) ‎(test of 61 hours)". That's a looooooong 61 hours... :) --Guy Macon (talk) 06:08, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Guy Macon: That's what I thought. It was a short range block which brought it to my attention.[1] There's a bug in the display of the block length. See[2]. -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:57, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cut-and-paste move at AM-RB 001

Hi zzuuzz, would you be willing to perform a WP:HISTMERGE at the articles Aston Martin Valkyrie/AM-RB 001? It appears that an IP editor attempted a cut-and-paste move instead of requesting a page move at WP:RM. The move is legitimate and constructive, the change is to update the page from the prototype car's name to its (now) official name ([3], [4], [5], [6]) Thanks — Iambic Pentameter (talk / contribs) 13:35, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

RE: chantry island lightstation

I have researched this article in depth, this is also my home. Most of Peter K Burians add ins, did not have fully cited material -- they where missing titles, links etc. Which is why they came up in red. I am not challenging his work or time spent, I am challenging his content and proof. When I researched this article, there was a lot of material I wanted to add and could not, as I could not locate info that could not be challenged in verifying. Everything I put in this article and proved came directly from the Federal Government. I had to accept it, which is why I made sure website links where added to the article. I am sorry someones pride his hurt over this article, however, I am an historian on this lightstation and a Doctorate Researcher. Rangeblock

Hi. You were the responding admin at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive948#Possible rangeblock so I thought I should talk to you first.

Although this dynamic IP has started updating timestamp on articles with a note (diff), as soon as there is not note (and sometimes with a note) he fails and gets corrected (diff) and reverted (diff) as well as warned (see User talk:2A02:C7F:5405:1300:8016:7667:AE35:FD3D).

Is it time for a block now? We can not go and add notes everywhere this editor might edit. Qed237 (talk) 10:19, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Qed237: OK I'm prepared to issue a short Attention Grabber™ block, hopefully timed to coincide with their next editing session. I'll need to find or fashion a talk page message to point to. -- zzuuzz (talk) 07:21, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the block. It worked until it expired [8]. Qed237 (talk) 10:40, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And last night it was Mattythewhite going on a revert mission of this disruptive IP (diff). Soon I have no choice but return to ANI. Qed237 (talk) 13:37, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Qed237: I'm a bit troubled by the combination of vast improvement and minor inconsistency; I wonder if bringing the stats completely up to date will help (Jeff Hughes (footballer) ntupdate = 4 November 2013 !). However, for the time being I've applied the same block (rinse, repeat).[9] You could always ask Mattythewhite to apply the range block. Even if he doesn't normally do range blocks, this one can be applied without collateral. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:52, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Misc ref desk.

Hi, you recently reverted 2 edits by anon 86.16.15.70 on the miscellaneous reference desk. As an admin I'm happy to explain myself to the occasional banned user, even though technically you are not permitted to edit any page on Wikipedia (nor are you permitted to remove my comments whilst insulting me with bad grammar). No one has told me anything about you. Your name has a vague whiff of familiarity, but you are mainly obvious to me from your sockpuppets in the aforementioned article and persistent reinsertion of this unsupported (and contentious) allegation. If you're not prepared to read BLP you're missing out on a fundamental Wikipedia policy. If you're not prepared to adhere to verifiability, another core Wikipedia policy and philosophy, then we probably don't have much to discuss. If you're not prepared to even attempt to provide a reliable source, then whatever... So far all I've seen is a banned user inventing and inserting defamatory information, with nothing to support your arguments. -- zzuuzz (talk) 06:16, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kekistan

I see that you create-protected the Kekistan article space. I do understand why, given the meme associated with it and the hoax articles that have been made there. However, there are now some third party sources that support the notability of this topic. However, I am not suggesting that we create an article at Kekistan but rather that a redirect be placed there leading to Pepe_the_Frog#Kekistan, as the Kekistan meme is a submeme of the Pepe the Frog meme. If you could put a redirect headed in that direction (and probably protect the redirect from meddling with indefinite semi protection or something similar) that would be great. Thanks. — InsertCleverPhraseHere 11:13, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Yes both Kekistan and Republic of Kekistan contained misinformation and are both salted. I am sympathetic to creation of redirects - not overly impressed with the current references which were of concern at DRV - but sympathetic nonetheless as they have been improved and alternatives can be found. Deleted page

Hey! This is regarding the page you deleted: 1975 French Open – Women's Doubles (I had nominated it for G3 speedy deletion). I presumed that a page with a valid title for an article, but content that does not fit into it, could be considered as vandalism as it would be "misleading". On the other hand, deleting it as "test page" would make sense based on the content of the article itself. Any comments? Thanks for the deletion by the way. Jiten Dhandha • talk • contributions • 19:40, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. When speedy deleting I'll often just use my own assessment about which criteria to use. It's not especially wrong to call it vandalism because as you say, the title. It could also have gone under A1 or possibly A3. I find that unless it's created maliciously it's less bitey to simply call it a test - which it probably was. -- zzuuzz (talk) 19:53, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah right! Makes sense. It was definitely a tough call - took me a few minutes to tag it. The thing you said about it not being malicious is very true. I'll keep that in mind next time when tagging articles for CSD. Thanks for the quick and helpful response! :) Jiten Dhandha • talk • contributions • 20:05, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Watch this one today

Preakness Stakes is today and we have another of those "change data in weird ways" vandals, possibly the same guy who was causing all the trouble on the horse racing articles this past year under several sock accounts -- this one kind of looks like a sleeper. Hi, you recently performed a rev-del on list of unusual deaths. Was it by aforementioned user, or by one of his socks? I thought Bishonen got all his edits to rev-del. —usernamekiran(talk) 18:00, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. You're welcome. Yes, almost identical edits by one of many socks. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Jaredgk2008. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:03, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

LTA vandal sock

SEAmericanJeeepl3- Can you block it and hide the edit? I know the SPI was just closed but this person apparently never stops pooping out accounts. Sro23 (talk) 22:32, 29 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I think we just protected the same page at about the same moment and I undid yours. Apologies. -Ad Orientem (talk) 18:28, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Aye, it happens. Your time is fine, I prefer my message, and there's now too many tags. Swings and roundabouts. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:31, 4 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A kitten for you!

For pouncing on that template vandalism noticed on Donald Trump.

Amazon AWS

Thanks for your range blocks on those Amazon AWS IPs a few days ago – recently I'd seen a great deal of vandalism coming from them, the messy kind of IP hopping seen at Robert Plant and Robert Smalls for example. I don't know very much about range blocking (forgive me if I'm wrong), but I think you may have blocked a range of Comcast IPs as Amazon AWS registered IPs. I'm referring to 23.24.0.0/16, I also noticed this note mentioning that from an IP within the range. Perhaps you only meant to block 23.23.0.0/16, numerically similar? Thanks, and sorry if I've misunderstood —72 talk 17:55, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I've unblocked the range. It should of course have been 23.22.0.0. -- zzuuzz (talk) 18:11, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kekistan Redirect

Kekistan should have a redirect to Pepe the Frog#Keke#Kekistan given the usage of the co-opted Vinland flag during recent the ACT!_for_America#March_Against_Sharia. Its flag has been cited as a hate symbol by and Anti-Defamation League, and has been featured in coverage of the xenophobic protest, so it's gone beyond being a hoax. kencf0618 (talk) 20:44, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. That which was deleted will forever be a hoax. Please see #Kekistan and User_talk:Lankiveil#Kekistan. -- zzuuzz (talk) 21:10, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, this protection seems appropriate to me. You can appeal for another admin to unprotect over at WP:RFUP. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:04, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I saw that you gave this user a 24 hour block for "memeing"... I'm confused; what's this block about? Am I missing something? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:14, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I blocked a few today. Filter 860. Memeing, memeing, no tolerance for it these days. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:19, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
AHH! The edit filter I wrote! Carry on good sir! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:17, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Resurrection of Jesus‎ - Armenian combo

Just in case it matters (edits seem to have stopped since but the address was left unblocked), 31.47.197.30 was also part of the combo with 46.71.199.54 and 46.71.59.120 which you already have temporarily blocked earlier (and Chlie123 who was blocked by Maile66). Thanks, —PaleoNeonate - 04:20, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I took the view that it's either stopped or been reassigned. -- zzuuzz (talk) 06:56, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
