Question

You said: "Hey I have a question! I borrowed my friend's camera and went to a wrestling event and took pictures. Does that mean those images belong to me? Or my friend?"

Provided you were not taking the pictures for your friend, the images belong to you. If the "payment" for taking the pictures is that you give the pictures to your friend, this would be a work for hire and the copyright would rest with your friend, though this is debateable. If your friend paid you to take the photographs, there's no debate, the copyright rests solely with your friend unless there's some other contract in play. --Yamla 17:13, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Adoption

Hello, I am new in Wikipedia and I would like to be adopted. Can you adopt me?--Idontknow610 14:40, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

You asked: Are you willing to adopt me?

Yeah I can do that. You seem like a good faith editor. Before you decide let me just briefly introduce myself. I'm 33 years old and live in Denmark. I've been with Wikipedia for about a year. I tend to mostly do things like disambiguating and general clean-up but I have been involved in most of what goes on here and I have a good understanding of policy. I have been working on several hard-to-work-on articles. I am online everyday so usually you would have to wait no more than 12 hours for a reply, mostly because I'm in Europe. If you choose to be adopted by me just leave a notice on my talk page! Happy editing! MartinDK 06:05, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations!
Congratulations on your recent adoption, Zenlax, and welcome to Wikipedia! I saw that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. Being an experienced editor myself, I accepted your request. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the person to see about it - just leave a message on my talk page. Remember, I am willing to help you and make your time here more enjoyable. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have, and remember to "be BOLD!"- I'm here to help you; no question is a stupid one. In the mean time, here are some pages that you might find helpful, in case you haven't already gotten the official welcoming:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome and congratulations!

Randy Orton trivia

As I stated in my edit summary I removed it per the policies WP:BLP and WP:A. The specific policy clauses are WP:BLP#Trivia sections and WP:A#Wikipedia articles must be based on reliable sources. ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 01:09, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Ehhhm. Yes the television show could go in the article although it might be best to create a new subsection above personal life called "Television appearences" as I don't think it would fit into "Personal life". As for his favourite wrestlers, if you can find a decent reference for that (i.e. not a fansite/blog/forum) and put that in "Personal life" then I don't think anyone would remove it. article ratings

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply. Yeah, anyone can rate articles although GA (good article status) and FA (Featured article status) have to be submitted for approval (basically an experienced editor independent from the project has to review and assess the article). As with everything on Wikipedia there is always the possibility that someone will disagree. This page is a good place to refer to. ŞůṜīΣĻ¹98¹Speak 14:35, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry

Hi Zenlax. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you but real life has been a mess the last 2 weeks or so. I lost my connection and family problems have consumed all my time. I wanted to get back to you on saturday but my internet repeatedly screwed up. I was able to AfD 2 articles but when I wanted to respond to your messages I got disconnected again.

I would very much like to rate an article for you but like it says above GA and FA needs to be submitted for community approval.

I hope you are doing well, I'll take a look at your edits now and get back to you later today.

Once again sorry for not responding but both my internet problems as well as other real life issues should be resolved now.

MartinDK 07:27, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

The article that you want to rate is Shane McMahon? MartinDK 07:32, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!!! Everything is fine again now fortunately. I read the article and personally I would rate it as B class. It is fairly extensive and it reads like it pretty much covers what needs to be covered. The first part of the article needs better sources and the sytax used for creating references needs to be improved. I can't help you with getting more sources but I can help you with the syntax for citing webpages. Remember that anyone can rate an article. For Good Article status or Featured Article status you do need community approval though. Once the first part of the article is better sourced I would suggest that you submit the article for a peer review. I'll get back to you later today and show you how to cite web pages correctly. MartinDK 06:07, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Citing sources

Okay the syntax for citing web pages is real simple. I already fixed it in the article but the basic syntax is

.<ref>{{cite web|url=url of the web page|title=page/article title|accessdate=date retrieved}}</ref>

You need to cite sources when stating something that isn't common knowledge (like George Bush being president) or when stating something that is blatantly apparent from the references given. For example you don't need to cite a source for the fact that he is a wrestler because that is already obvious form the sources provided.

You do however need to cite sources for thing that aren't obvious. For example, when saying that

He began his on-screen career as a referee named Shane Stevens in 1990, and was the first performer to walk out to greet the audience at WrestleMania VI. Soon leaving behind the blue shirt and bow-tie, Shane McMahon took on the role of a backstage official at WrestleMania VIII in an attempt to break up a brawl between Randy Savage and Ric Flair.

you need to cite a source for that. I would imagine that it wouldn't be too hard to cite a biography or some other reliable source. It just needs to be there so that people can tell where that information came from. I don't think it will be too much work for you, maybe just looking up page numbers in a biography or citing some reliable web page but it really improves the quality of the article. Lack of citations is the first thing that people look for when rating an article.

Have a great friday night!!!

Don't mention it. The list is just a list of users that I may have interactions with in the future (it used to be titled "Friends", but I felt like it related too much to WP:MYSPACE; it still currently means the same thing. I actually borrowed that title from you). Anyways, I've been sorta inactive (or semi-active) on WP:PW, as I've been focusing more on other projects (South Park, Family Guy, hip hop music). I've completely stopped watching WWE, so that's a reason for my inactiveness on pro wrestling. TTYL. The Chronic 01:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

From the Members

Welcome to the second issue of the WikiProject Saw's newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It's now "Saw Weekend" and Saw IV has been out for a couple of days now. (If you haven't seen it, don't worry, I won't spoil anything for you.) Because of this, a lot of the articles are probably going to need a bit of work. I'll go into more detail on other various sections. All in all, a lot of the 'challenges' from last month's newsletter are still here. Since the release of IV will probably be the last major release of info at least until next year's V we could probably just try to improve the information we already have.

We would encourage all members to get more involved and if you are wondering what with, please ask. CyberGhostface 18:17, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Pages Needing Cleanup
  • List of traps in the Saw film series: This survived deletion, but it was recommended that we change the article a bit.
  • Detective Eric Matthews: This article could use a bit of clean-up to make it less in-universe. Since he's one of the few recurring characters outside of Jigsaw and Amanda, we could probably base it off off their formats.
Current Debates
Monthly Collaboration
  • Last month's monthly collaboration was Saw (film). As a guide, look at other featured horror film articles such as Halloween (1978 film) and Night of the Living Dead. More external information (such as behind the scenes, reception, etc) should be added if possible. A new one hasn't been decided yet. My suggestion would be to either work some more on Saw's article, or perhaps start a new collaboration.
Newsletter Challange
  • Try to make the character articles more encyclopedic by making them less in-universe. See Jigsaw and Amanda's articles for guidance. Also see Jason Voorhees, which is a featured article. (Obviously there is more information on Jason available than the Saw characters, but it is worth looking at to see what's considered the best of the best.)
  • Some of the plot articles seem to be overtly long. Without bowdlerizing them, maybe we could try to make them a bit shorter and concise.
  • Try to invite more members to this project. If you know any Saw fans who are good with computers, invite them to Wikipedia. The more the merrier.

RE: No worries

I edit Wikipedia on an iPhone the same way I would on a computer (it still retains the same WP monobook layout). It's more repetitive to edit on an iPhone (it's easier to use a mouse than to swipe and tap around the screen), but it works. It's hard for me to log into an iPhone, since my password is so long and complex (I store it within a certain e-mail message, but I don't know how to cut and paste on an iPhone). There's an application on apple.com that allows me to enter passwords easily, so I'm gonna check that out. The Chronic 23:16, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Based on "too much memory", I have two questions: how many GB is is? and, it is too full of items (songs, videos, etc.) or have you not put anything on the iPhone? I've had it for a week now, so I may be able to fix whatever's the problem. Also, BTW, my iPhone didn't come with a manual either. It is located on the Apple site [1]. TTYL. The Chronic 23:23, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
You're welcome. Just one more question: your iPhone is 926 GB?! 'cause I'm sure they only make iPhones up to only 8 GB (unless you mean 926 MB, or you fixed your iPhone to hold that much). The Chronic 23:02, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

No, the template {{welcome}} doesn't have that feature of automatically adding the signature (unless of course you fix the template to do that, in hich case it would probably be reverted). From the Editor

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! I hope this will be a good source of news to those people interested in what's happening around our pro wrestlimg community. I plan to release it every Sunday.

This newsletter will just be a way to get the community announcements to people who don't have the time to check the mesageboards, as well that to those just curious about the news. The newsleter will consist of a project news section (to do with what's happening on Wikipedia), and a current events section (relating to news in the "real world"). The newslette will also contain the Collaboration of the Week announcement.

That's all. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please post them at this talk page.

RE: Newsletter

Here are some of the things you can do to help out with the newsletter:

  1. Offer suggestions on how to improve the newsletter further.
  2. Help out with the actual draft of the newsletter; update news, injuries, project news (add new FA's, FAC's, GA's, GAC's, etc).
  3. Proofread; check for any typos, fix grammar.

Hope you can help out! Cheers, The Chronic 01:08, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Welcoming users

Hi I see your welcoming users and you seem to be welcoming them even without contribs. I am new to this but I always thought that you could only welcome users with contribs? I have just joined the Welcoming Commitee so I would like some info. Im only a newb looking for help so dont think I'm being rude!

Thanks,

I can, but you really need to source the "Background" and "Event" sections first. Davnel03 21:41, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Yep, OK. Here are the WWE.com links to the RAW's that followed Backlash to help you:
Hope this helps! :) Davnel03 20:11, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I was glancing over your article. You are really going to need more sources for your article other than WWE.com. Cheers!--TrUcO9311 (talk) 21:57, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

GA review

I'm not doing any GA reviews until Sunday, but if it is still at GAN then, I'll review it. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 21:06, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

RE: Adoption

Thank you for your offer of adoption, I accept. Drop me a line and let me know what I need to do next, look forward to working with you! Bleeding Blue (talk) 21:15, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Well, most of what I've done on here has been related to WikiProject:Nintendo. I am specifically interested in becoming involved in promoting articles on worthwhile topics. It seems that the Nintendo Wikiproject has become somewhat inactive, so I am thinking about joining a different, more active one that would allow me to collaborate with others on improving some group of articles that I have an interest in. I guess I just need some direction on what articles to improve and how to do it.
On a more minor note I'd like to personalize my sig and user page a little more but am completely unfamiliar with the markup to do anything very complicated. Maybe you can give me pointers or show me where to learn that kind of thing. Thanks! Bleeding Blue (talk) 21:33, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
I've got a signature working, I took what you gave me and spent some time tweaking it. I appreciate it! Bleeding Blue 22:06, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Question

Hey, Zenlax, I have a question for you. Today I ran into some rather elaborate vandalism. Looking at the history, it seemed that the vandal made several changes for the worse in one edit, then in several subsequent edits undid some (but not all) of the changes, I'm assuming for the purpose of hiding the rest of them in the history. Is there an easy way to restore a version of the page that you know is good, without having to undo each change one-by-one? Thanks, Bleeding Blue 04:46, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Just letting you know that I've added a few articles to this AFD. Cheers, Davnel03 17:56, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
