Eli's Cheesecake Pictures

[edit]

I was wondering if I could get some help with the copyright of the pictures on Eli's Cheesecake Company's wikipage? I uploaded the pictures from Eli's Cheesecake Company with their permission but I'm receiving messages saying there is problems with the sourcing and copyright, and so they want to delete the photos on Friday June 22, and I don't know how to add sources.

James Harden nickname

[edit]

I have restored James Harden's nickname on his profile that you repeatedly keep removing. There is no official source of nicknames, nor is there anyway to determine whether a nickname is "official." Nicknames by their very nature are unofficial. However, most are common knowledge.

If you insist on deleting James Harden's nickname based on your view that it is not officialy sourced, I believe it is your duty to remove Earvin Johnson's, Michael Jordans, Charles Barkley's, Shaquille O'Neal's, Hakeem Olajuwon's, Dennis Rodman's, Wilt Chamberlain's etc etc etc. Because their nicknames are mentioned in their wiki pages, yet have no official source for the nicknames. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmurdock21 (talkcontribs) 01:53, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like you are acting as owner of this page. One of the first policy of Wikipedia is Author's don't own the content. You have been removing the content based on your personal view. What can't we leave it and see to get the opinion of other contributors. This way its a democracy against your dictatorship respect to what goes into this article and what don't. Shaq is a experience basketball player and he is an analyst you don't have to discriminate professional figures by saying things like "We don't need to put every single thought that goes through Shaqs mind". In future a basketball enthusiast will value fun factors like this and only way we would know about those historical moments by capturing then in Wikipedia. Hope we can come to an agreement on this. Thanks, Anu (talk) 19:34, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Can we leave it for awhile without your influence and see if anyone else going to revert this. If so I will agree to take it down. I am not hear to name call or anything like that and I am here to improve wikipedia. Anu (talk) 19:47, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Its ok, I no longer plan to work on this article. This how wikipedia is loosing users, power users are acting and controlling what goes into wikipedia. I don't plan to start edit wars. In future I will lookout for your username and stay away from an article that has edits from you. Thank you for all your advise. Anu (talk) 03:32, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Price and Nash

[edit]

Per Steve Nash's NBA Bio: "Also finished the season as the NBA’s all-time leader in career free-throw percentage (2804-of-3102, .903933 FT%), just ahead of Mark Price (2135-of-2362, .903895 FT%)". FYI... Doc talk 23:03, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that number was from the end of 2010-11 season. The current number shows that Nash is second.—Chris!c/t 23:50, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This list here shows the free throw numbers rounded to four decimal places. Zagalejo^^^ 00:14, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The main thing is that not only does NBA.com list Nash ahead of Price (doesn't really matter), but that they are both clearly listed as tied at #1. I am not going to make a big deal out of it, but I trust that the NBA knows what they are doing when they rank their all-time leaders. Don't you? You are removing material that can be easily referenced when you deny that Nash and Price are tied at .904. The NBA don't go to Pi when they consider these things, apparently, and they round things off a little more leniently. There are many more players that need their stats adjusted, and timestamps are not needed for those whose seasons have ended. Cheers. Doc talk 02:42, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Answer

[edit]

Am I looking to you like grammar expert? As one member there already said, you are acting like page owner of all NBA players bro. I just did a little cleanup for Thunder players, want to make readers easier in that mess, and if you want to edit my work, do it. Have you ever put some text in, or you are just grammar freak? Pay respect and to those who write text. Just few examples, for Serge Ibaka, you made one correction, put just one "the" while I put more than 1,000 words and made page, in my opinion, much better for readers. Then, you made correction of Fisher's page and look at this sentence: "Phil Jackson said that Fisher was "definitely the spokesman for [the Lakers] as far as leadership goes." Bro what does this "[the Lakers]" mean to you. Did Jacson said in interview with these brackets or he maybe thought of the LAKERS (the NBA TEAM)?! To not be just hater, you made and some good job, for example like this one in Hayward's page, but pay go***mn respect to others! Thanks! AirWolf (talk) 22:03, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I feel like we should close this thread so I'll give you my answer on comment you posted on my talk page (maybe I could do it and on my talk page, but here we are..) First, my bad for Kyrie, lack of focus while editing it, I had put points from his rookie NBA season and other stats from his final Collage season, also and that with stats that you mentioned. The thing I disagree is with brackets. Yes, I saw them in books, newspapers, magazines etc. But not in this form [text], I saw like this one (text). And you don't need to inform me about your wiki stats, it's easy to find. Also, I appreciate your "NBA group" here on wiki, but have appeal. Isn't it better to contribute more by putting more text in articles then just looking for grammar errors by the users who wrote something? I saw lot of articles of NBA players that are almost "empty" (usually players that doesn't have too much media coverage). Opposite example is Jeremy Lin or I don't know. He played only one good season there and have multiple times more info than, let's take, Rudy Gay's article who is, to be honest, much better player even they don't play at same positions. But it's not point in Lin's or someone else popularity, I talk about text empty articles of the most of the NBA players. Sorry for the long text. AirWolf (talk) 02:08, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Allow me to comment. You may not agree with the bracket thing, but it is a generally accepted convention that many media/books/writings have adopted. So for the benefit of the general audience, we should use it regardless of what we think about it. And yes content is important but grammar is equally important. Not only does bad grammar make content unreadable/untidy, but it reflects poorly on Wikipedia editors.—Chris!c/t 02:40, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Wikipedia has a guideline on best practices for handling quotes. This is "to help editors produce articles with consistent, clear, and precise language, layout, and formatting. The goal is to make the encyclopedia easier and more intuitive to use. Consistency in language, style, and formatting promotes clarity and cohesion; this is especially important within an article." Hope that helps.—Bagumba (talk) 07:57, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Euroleague removal?

[edit]

Removal from ITN/R? What does that even mean? Do they mean that the Euroelague article should not be allowed on Wikipedia and should be removed from the site?Bluesangrel (talk) 02:38, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So they are saying that Euroleague news, like "Olympiacos wins the Euroleague championship" should not be in the news section, because the Euroleague isn't news worthy? Is that basically what the debate is about? I don't want to get involved in the discussion without understanding what the argument is. But if that is what the discussion is about, then I will give my opinion on it.Bluesangrel (talk) 07:17, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kostas Papanikolaou article

[edit]

On the Kostas Papanikolaou article, there is a dispute over an award being listed there. Papanikoloau was not named the "Euroleague Final MVP", as no such award even actually exists. However, during the in-game TV broadcast, the 2 Euroleague TV announcers pick a player of the game from the TV announcers and make it for the game. The same way that NBA games will pick a player of the game through the TV announcers. But, on the Papanikolaou article, it keeps being listed as an actual real award, as "Euroleague Final MVP". This is implying that he was voted the MVP of the Euroleague Final (which he was not) and actually this award does not even exist, as the actual award is called the Euroleague Final Four MVP. I changed the edit that is listing the "Euroleague Final MVP" award. So, I was just wondering, what do we do about "awards" like this? An in-game TV broadcast award, picked by the TV announcers "player of the game". Personally, I don't think that this award should be listed, because it's not an actual award, and certainly listing it as "Euroleague Final MVP" seems misleading, because people reading it will think it sounds official. I don't know, it seems to me that this sort of thing should not be listed as an official award, but there seems to be a dispute on it, as it has been added several times. So, I just was wondering what your thoughts on it are, before I talked to the editor that is adding it about it? Because I'm really not sure if say, NBA players get such in-game TV broadcast awards counted as official awards or not.173.216.228.181 (talk) 21:20, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the official award, from the official website of Euroleague, Spanoulis takes second Final Four MVP trophy! - but I think here is where the confusion is coming from, 2012 Final Four MVP: Vassilis Spanoulis, Olympiacos Piraeus - as you can see, that is the actual real official award. But, then there was also the in-game TV broadcast's "player of the game", as picked by the 2 Euroleague TV announcers - Player of the Game Interview: Kostas Papanikolaou, Olympiacos Piraeus - so apparently this is what is causing the confusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.216.228.181 (talk) 21:31, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it isn't for Greek basketball, but for Euroleague basketball. No, it's not important. It holds the same importance as NBA in-game TV broadcast player of the game awards. So then, am I correct in that it really wouldn't be something to list as an award, since it actually really isn't one?173.216.228.181 (talk) 09:22, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Erik Spoelstra and Filipino heritage

[edit]

Thanks for your input on the Erik Spoelstra contribution. Although I do agree with you that Asian-American, also implies being of Filipino descent, I felt that adding Filipino-American made it more specific and should be at least be specifically acknowledged. The reason for this is because there's still a certain number of Filipino-Americans who do not consider Filipinos as being Asian. The Pacific Islander Wikipiedia article was vandalized for a while, with people reverting the article to include Filipinos under that section. It wasn't until I brought this to the attention of mods that they finally protected the page. Please keep an eye out for vandalism in the future and my only suggestion to keep it fair would to include being Asian-American and Filipino-American, therefore it specifically acknowledges both and not just one in general. Greetings, newly minted Administrator! We have a small problem at the Terrell Suggs article. It's not official until it's officially announced, in a press release. Notice that (as of this writing) the Knicks and Blazers' websites say nothing. Even the material on NBA.com doesn't come straight from the NBA itself. The site hosts a lot of content from third-party commentators. (If you read carefully, you'll see things like "sources say", "reportedly", etc.) Just be patient. We'll get things done when it's necessary. Wikipedia is not a news site. Ronnie Brewer

[edit]

Alright, I was just going by what I saw at the time. The "Free Agent Tracker" on the NBA site doesn't have Brewer listed so that's why I was unsure as to why he was listed as a free agent. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:40, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lasme

[edit]

It was announced in Greek official press and by Panathinaikos that he agreed to terms with the club at one year for $400,000 US dollars net income. However, he was playing in NBA summer league at the time, so they could only fax the contract to him and have him sign it and fax it back. The story from Lasme and his agent is that at the last moment when he was to send back the contract, his wife convinced him not to sign it, as she wants to stay in the USA and so he would keep working out with NBA teams. So, basically, it was true that he joined them, but at the last moment, he changed his mind. He agreed to terms, but didn't sign, then changed his mind.Bluesangrel (talk) 09:04, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gasol & Spain's 2010 FIBA World Championship Squad

[edit]

This is the second time I had to ask for your help for something that I can't access for some odd reason (the first time being that Piratas de Quebradillas roster for getting rid of P.J. Tucker), but even when I'm logged on, I can't seem to access Spain's 2010 FIBA World Championship roster template at all! All I wanted to do was edit Marc Gasol's spot from M. Gasol to just Gasol since his brother wasn't on Spain's 2010 roster, but I can't since Wikipedia thinks it's a deleted template that needs creation! I don't know why this is happening to me, but can you help me out with this conundrum? - AGreatPhoenixSunsFan (talk) 11:19, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Did Brad Miller and Jerome Dyson go to the Suns or the Timberwolves cause ESPN says that they went to the Timberwolves yet the Hornets site said they went to the Suns? DaHuzyBru (talk) 03:11, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I reckon that we will know the fate of the footballer until 9 August. If the situation is still unclear until then, I will ask you to extend protection for a couple of days or re-request one at RPP, whichever you feel comfortable with. Cheers. Kosm1fent 12:32, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

NBA team roster order

[edit]

Hey, is it important how ordered are players (by number or any other) in team rosters. I ordered Lakers and Heat rosters by number, but few moments later I asked myself was I wrong there. Do they (rosters) need to be in the same order as one on the official sites? Thanks. AirWolf (talk) 18:03, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

However, I decided to revert my edits to its 'defaults'. Most of the articles have default order, there is no need to these two be exception. AirWolf (talk) 00:21, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, Zagalejo.

In the last 48 hours, an anonymous IP user (122.107.175.113) has added an unnecessary "United States" link to American basketball players' birthplaces, as well as pipe-linking the American nationality in the infobox to "United States," in several hundred player bios. Adding "United States" to player birthplaces is unnecessary, as has been discussed on the project talk page before, and pipe-linking "American" to "United States" is contrary to WP:OVERLINK. Can you do something to stop this? Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 02:33, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Help with FIBA Basketball World Cup Yugoslavia/Serbia issue

[edit]

The FIBA Basketball World Cup and related articles to it keep getting falsely edited to show that Serbia won medals that were actually won by Yugoslavia. This also happens on the article page of Serbian national team. On one of the articles, Russia is also credited with the medals of the Soviet Union. If you try to fix this, someone else just edits it back. The Serbian national team article totally takes credit for medals that are not officially theirs, and you can't edit it to fix it, without it being reverted. Can you help with this? Here are the official records from FIBA --> [1] [2] [3] - the same problem exists at the Serbia and Montenegro national team article, which was even redirected, but FIBA counts it as a separate team --> [4] - and again, FIBA counts Soviet Union and Russia as separate teams, with separate medals, but in some articles Russia is getting credited with those medals, but here is how FIBA counts it ---> [5] [6] - the same problem exists at the articles of individual tournaments, where the wrong teams are listed, trying to credit medals won to countries that don't actually get credited with them, or simply placing the wrong country in the tournament competition. Can you help with this problem? Because no matter how much editing you do to fix it, the edits just get changed back, especially the ones related to the Serbian and Yugoslavian national teams.Bluesangrel (talk) 11:31, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure which users especially are responsible. It seems to me like it's a lot of different users, but mostly Serbian guys probably. Seeing as how the Serbian national basketball team article is.Bluesangrel (talk) 15:17, 23 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Basketball players

[edit]

Ok, I retract that. I only checked the history of Arroyo's page. Either way, I don't think that something as controversial should have been decided by a handful. Politically speaking, only 40 something percent of Puerto Ricans identify as Puerto Ricans Americans, or 'American citizens living in a territory', those affiliated to the PNP. A similar percent is affiliated to the PPD, which identify as Puerto Rican and only see the citizenship as a commodity for travel and other stuff (in example, social security). Then, there's those affliated with the PIP/MUS, which exclusively identify as Puerto Rican as well. The only thing that all of them have in commmon is that they indentify as Puerto Rican in some manner. I think that this issue should be revisited in the Puerto Rico project's page, I also like either leaving it blank or refering exclusively to IOC nationality. There's at least five or six administrators listed in that page, but few actively discussing in the talk page, perhaps you being an administrator could contact those that are not aware, especially the adminitrators. Old School WWC Fan (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 06:28, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that the issue should be voted for by people that don't understand how local politics work. That is a hot switch and it will sooner or later blow up. About adminiatrators, even if they don't have any special powers shouldn't they be more experienced than "normal" users? I will e-mail them, just in case. Infobox basketball biography

[edit]

Hey, I have created header colours for the Euroleague teams, but don't know how to exactly put them alongside the NBA color template in the code of the Infobox basketball biography template. Can you help me there somehow? Everything is working, I tested it in the sandbox just by renaming NBA with the Euroleague. As the Euroleague is no.1 (or whatever other way said) league in Europe, second to the NBA, it deserves header colours just like the NBA teams, so I created similar templates to NBA's ones. If you know how to edit this in wiki's code and want to contribute and help me with this, next thing to do after, let's say, we have done this, is to edit code so it could be workable in, for example, CSKA Moscow form. The harder way is to add to every player of the Euroleague teams team_link parameter, but if you know how to fix the code, then great! This is because it can redirect to other unwanted pages, like in this case, to Sports Organization CSKA (CSKA Moscow). And the second thing why do we have to do this, is because many European/Euroleague teams have different official names than how do people know them for.

I would like to finish this, and please if you have time and willingness, help. Of course, main problem to me is how to keep both Euroleague color template and NBA color template in the same template without bugs on NBA and Euroleague players biographies/pages.

Stuff you need to see: Template:Infobox basketball biography, Template:NBA color, Template:Euroleague color. All the other needed links are on these pages. Regards. AirWolf (talk) 05:03, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey man, I need your help here. He is constantly deleting lots of stuff on basketball articles (most of them are players who play in Turkish teams), including the Euroleague stats, which took me lot of work to put on some of the players articles.. Talk with him or anything.. See his contribs if you don't believe me, I don't have option to revert past edits because of edit conflict.. Thanks AirWolf (talk) 00:42, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

n. And yeah, btw, how does now look Euroleague-player articles, I worked on page 'standards' in the past, made more than 2,000 edits over one month or less.. 350+ players, lot of work with templates, I think they are a little better in that way.. Grammar work is too much, but at least I improved them here..

I don't think neither that he really wants to do something wrong, maybe he's still learning how to edit in the proper way, I saw on his talk page that he is asking other users how to use stuff.. I just don't know why is he removing the Euroleague stats, they are much harder to work with, than NBA stats and take much of time.. but it's OK if he doesn't continue to do so in the future..
Thanks for finding grammar errors in the Turkcan's article, I don't use English everyday in speaking, just in mind here on the internet hehe, so I do make some errors (mostlz with the prepositions and similar things).. as I am native speaker of the Serbian language..
And the third thing about nationalities, like in this example with Turkcan (I thought that he is Bosnian and searched with Google this 'Turkcan Bosnian nationality' or something like that and Google gave me the results of the link you deleted.. What should you know, even it has never to be used in the articles, is that some people from the Balkans with that Serbian-looking-like names (like Mirsad Jahović then changed Turkcan) are mostly of the Slavic origins but after the Turkish invasion on Balkans (who have stayed on Balkan from about 1400-1900) they have changed religion and that is why they non-rarely opts for Turkish passport (they are mostly from the Novi Pazar region in Serbia or Kosovo or Bosnia).. then you had all those problems with Yugoslavian wars and that is why it is very important to have good sources in the pages with these ethnic problems.. I have wrote lot of stuff, sorry... Cheers! AirWolf (talk) 03:09, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Panathinaikos B.C. depth chart

[edit]

I got accused of distorting the truth and being a saboteur at my talk page for simply doing a correct update to the team's depth chart. Page protection?

[edit]

Hi Z- I am not that familiar with the guidelines for page protection, but Mike Flynn (basketball) has had some minor edit warring going on over the application of Category:American people of Moroccan descent. There is really no evidence that Flynn is of Moroccan descent, just that he was born in Casablanca (my guess is he was born to American parents there). I removed it most recently and noted in the edit summary that a citation should accompany the category if it is re-added. All of the category additions have been done by IPs, I am just wondering if it is appropriate to protect the page so only registered users can edit? Thanks. Raptors

[edit]

All the heights and weights for Raptors are taken from here http://blog.raptors.com/press-releases/raptors-announce-training-camp-roster/. Please change them accordingly, as my previous contributions have been vandalised. And who is this HuzyBrüze guy who changed Valanciunas' weight to 231 lb? I watched the Raptors-Wizards game last night and if Jan Vesely is listed at 6'11" 240lb then Valanciunas sure as hell does not only weigh 231 lb. Valanciunas weighed 245 lb in London last summer. http://www.london2012.com/athlete/valanciunas-jonas-1071286/. It makes absolutely no sense for him to weigh less now, as the Raptors organization's biggest goal for Jonas this season is for him to get stronger (gain muscle, gain weight) and thus improve his post defense against physical NBA centers. I hope this goes to prove that NBA profiles are not as 'official' and 'accurate' as one might think, but are quite outdated.
