Jervaughn Scales

[edit]

Jervaughn Scales' career history seems incredibly out of date and possibly inaccurate. Also, I'm finding conflicting sources for his date of birth. Some list August 11, 1971 while other list August 8, 1971. I was wondering if you can verify his LatinBasket profile to update his playing history as needed? Regarding birth date, if you can't find a definitive source on that then that's ok. Thank you DaHuzyBru! SportsGuy789 (talk) 19:59, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lorenzo Duncan pro history

[edit]

Really hard to find professional info on Lorenzo Duncan. All I could muster was his year in the British Basketball League in 1988–89. Do you have any sources for him? SportsGuy789 (talk) 23:38, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@SportsGuy789: There is no eurobasket profile for him, so it would likely require a lot of digging to find his career info. This vid says he played 6 years in England from 1986. This suggests he played for Kingston Kings in 1991. I wouldn't use either as a source in the article, but it may help in your search. Googling using key words isn't bringing up much for me. Revision of my edit on Otago Nuggets

[edit]

Hello, you undid my edit on 20:58, 12 July 2022 on the article Otago Nuggets. I have added the source of the signing of Todd Withers on his article. The official announcement of his new club Rytas Vilnius:

https://www.rytasvilnius.lt/lt/naujienos/rytas/n/pirmasis-ryto-legionierius-i-vilniu-atvyksta-toddas-withersas-1607/

How should I know that Todd Withers actually plays for Otago Nuggets, if the official announcement is already done? I'm interested in new informations in using wikipedia. I always use official sources when I change something.

Thanks for your support, have a nice day. :) WayNeTraiN123 (talk) 17:05, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@WayNeTraiN123: Thanks for the message. As a follower of the New Zealand NBL, when you removed him from the roster – before seeing your edits at Todd Withers – it was an immediate red flag to me as I knew he had played 2 days earlier and that the New Zealand NBL season was still in progress. I checked Otago Nuggets socials and they had not announced anything. However, after seeing your edits at Todd Withers with an official source, I don't blame you. Maybe as a little bit of advice, consider linking the source in the edit summary. My approach would have been different had I seen a source in the edit summary. FYI – it's not uncommon for players to play in an "off-season league" i.e. playing in a lower-tiered league in between 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons. Players may sign with a team while still active in another. Hope this helps. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:12, 14 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why so many reverts with no explanation?

[edit]

Why are you putting back the two-word over-capitalized forms "Semi Finals" and "Quarter Finals"? It is more common to use the one-word or hyphenated forms, and in WP we don't over-capitalize, per MOS:CAPS. Also see the recent discussion at the bottom of my talk page. @TonyTheTiger: I have added a bit of info. Usbasket and RealGM list Webber with the DOB of April 5 instead of May 4. What source are you referencing for the DOB? DaHuzyBru (talk) 13:42, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Thx. Not really an RS. However, keep in mind that European date format may present May 4 as 4/5 instead of 5/4. One source or the other could be written in correctly.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:19, 22 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@TonyTheTiger: That's why I'm asking for your reference. What is your source that states May 4? DaHuzyBru (talk) 00:01, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ESPN.com lists 4/5/1980. ESPN.com.au lists 5/4/1980. Given the US does mdy, that would be April 5, 1980. Given Australia does dmy, that would be 5 April 1980. Let me know if on your end, you see something different. DaHuzyBru (talk) 00:25, 23 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

hi DaHuzyBru, hope all is well, I wanted to know if you had a page for professional basketball player Raheim Brown? Allstarglobal (talk) 05:19, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Allstarglobal: Below is what Eurobasket has for Raheim Brown. DaHuzyBru (talk) 08:00, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Is there a Wikipedia page for this? Allstarglobal (talk) 10:46, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, is there anything for Brooks Sales on Eurobasket? Allstarglobal (talk) 11:24, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is no Raheim Brown page currently. You might want to consider creating a draft in your Sandbox where you can test out creating content with references. I have put Brooks Sales' info below as well. DaHuzyBru (talk) 12:54, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Legend, I appreciate the information on both guys. Regarding Sandbox, I have never edited or created a page before, can you refer me to someone that assist in this or could help start a page? Would love to try and create and edit a few pages for said guys with references. Thanks again for your replying Allstarglobal (talk) 23:36, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just added some starter-point links to your talk page. This should help you with learning a few things. If you create User:Allstarglobal/sandbox, you can use this space to test and draft. DaHuzyBru (talk) 09:30, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok great thank you, I appreciate that. I will go there now and see what i can do✨️🙏 Allstarglobal (talk) 06:34, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, just to clarify, did you mean you started a player page for either player stated at that sandbox and I can contribute to? Would be appreciated it😁 Allstarglobal (talk) 13:15, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Exum

[edit]

Regarding Grantland,[1] they were referring to Dante's article, which surprisingly was speedy deleted[2] before being re-created. His page didnt have much on his dad then. Anyways, Grantland is generally tip-top and I wouldn't normally worry about citogenesis there. No worries, don't need it necessarily restored. As for "American-Australian", MOS:HYPHEN says (recently?) to not hyphenate: Avoid using hyphens to connect racial or ethnic descriptors, regardless of whether or not they are used attributively (Aboriginal Australians, Asian American studies, Black British people). Best. —Bagumba (talk) 08:43, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I too gathered that they were referencing Dante's page, but that combined with the suspect tone of the article (opinion piece), it's probably not a crucial source to have. Regarding MOS:HYPHEN, I get that, but in Cecil's case, it's not racial or ethnic related like those examples. It's dual nationality and citizenship. Isn't that type of hyphen usage consistent across Wikipedia? Jim Carrey for example. DaHuzyBru (talk) 08:52, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, most of WP has been hyphenating, and its not a point I'm passionate about. Consider it an FYI. —Bagumba (talk) 09:03, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ITN recognition for Cecil Exum

On 7 July 2023, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Cecil Exum, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Anarchyte (talk) 05:26, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

League status

[edit]

Add league ref to all clubs before i keep arguing some must have been pro (mailed them). Even league article is 2 years old so will check more into latest updates. All has to be clearly sourced here. 93.140.253.152 (talk) 15:24, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to keep edit warring with you. As you are the one introducing the content, it is your responsibility to provide reliable sources that support the content. Your gut feeling of "some must have been pro" doesn't cut it. I provided a detailed and source-backed response at WT:BASKETBALL, so I would encourage you to provide a response there and see what others think before going through each article again and adding the same content that has led to the edit war i.e. what you did at Hawke's Bay Hawks. That is not constructive. Also, I would encourage you to sign up for an account rather than being an IP hopper. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:08, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cecil Exum

[edit]

Cecil Exum passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Beverly Hills, CA. I know Cecil and Dante via their childhood friend N.G. Eason. N.G. was in the hospital with them and the whole family that day. You can verify with a family member. 45.59.210.146 (talk) 00:33, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia requires reliable sources to support any content added to a page. Is there a public source to support July 2? If not, then stating July 2 is original research and is not allowed on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not the place for Righting great wrongs. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:02, 20 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Perry Bromwell teams

[edit]

Oi mate. Do you still have a Eurobasket subscription?

I'm drafting up Perry Bromwell in User:SportsGuy789/sandbox and could use a hand filling in his infobox. Here is a Eurobasket profile I found, but the teams section is blurred out since I'm not a subscriber. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! SportsGuy789 (talk) 04:06, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@SportsGuy789: Hey mate. The profile does not have much, but here it is:

Pennsylvania (NCAA)
1996-1997: Vag (Norway)
1997-1998: Kristiansand (Norway)

BC Uralmash Yekaterinburg players

[edit]

Hi. These players did play for the team. The official website of the club lists them, and they were all prominent Soviet players of the mid to late 20th century. Several of them have their jerseys retired by the club. Bluesangrel (talk) 14:36, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Bluesangrel: Thanks for the message. I left you a talk page message at the same time. The content you added, no matter how true it may be (see WP:OR and WP:RGW), needs to be cited with a reliable source otherwise it can be contested and removed, as I did in this case. Thanks for adding the source. I encourage you to keep adding sources for all future content. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:39, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The article already had the inline citation from the official website on it. So as I was editing the article, I saw no reason to add it again. But evidently, for some reason, it redirected wrong. But the inline citation was already right there in the article. Bluesangrel (talk) 14:43, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, but I didn't know that. You provided no edit summary and it appeared to come out of nowhere. You are correct that the citation was already used in the page. Ideally, any new introduced sentence should be cited. A ref in the article can be re-used, as I just amended. All good :) Happy editing. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:50, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi long time no write! Would you mind taking a look at this article and updating it with your eurobasket access? It looks out of date. Thanks and have a great day! Rikster2 (talk) 21:48, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Rikster2: Done. Not much on him, he hasn't played pro since 2019. He played one TBT game in 2022, but that's it. Hope all is well! DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:33, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Earl Cureton teams

[edit]

Earl Cureton just died. Would you be interested to source and expand his non-NBA teams in prose and and ibx? Thanks in advance. —Bagumba (talk) 11:21, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Bagumba: Unfortunately there is no Eurobasket player profile for him. I have added what I can from his Eurobasket coach profile. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:33, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks. For future reference, about when is Eurobasket's typical cutoff period...1990s, 2000s? —Bagumba (talk) 14:37, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Someone who played the bulk of their career in 1980s will be less likely to have a profile. When I saw the 1957 birth year, I knew it would be less likely. Those who played in Europe in the 1990s, especially the late 90s, will most likely have a profile. Cureton played the majority of his career in the NBA, which Eurobasket didn't start covering until later. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:45, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Given that he was born and raised in Nigeria, and no evidence of renouncing his citizenship, should "Nigerian" have been removed? —Bagumba (talk) 00:27, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This edit removed it back in January. I see you are a frequent editor of the page, so if you feel it should be re-added, please do. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:52, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Wanted to make sure I'm not missing something. Nationalities can be messy. Thanks. —Bagumba (talk) 04:46, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What do you think about this?

[edit]

Hi, curious to know your opinion about the current condition of the New Zealand men's national basketball team article. The sheer quantity and verbosity of the sub-section headers (particularly within the "history" section) is concerning. I think the article needs help and could use additional eyes, maybe adding the {{too many sections}} template would be a good start. What are your thoughts? Left guide (talk) 10:46, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree completely. The article is too long for anyone to reasonably digest. The user is relying on a book titled History of NZ Basketball but the content they are adding is overwhelmingly fan driven with a desire to set the record straight and right great wrongs. I have tagged the article in the past but the user tends to receive this as an insult. More eyes are needed on this user's contributions as they do not take kindly to my presence. Are you willing to tag the article? They have a high tendency to remove tags without addressing the issues presented, but it needs to be done, especially from someone other than me. DaHuzyBru (talk) 11:12, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting insights, a lot to digest there, and I have thoughts about some of it but would need more time to ponder the others. Is that "History of NZ Basketball" book a reliable source? And what makes you believe the user is attempting to right great wrongs? Are they adding their own original research rather than strictly sticking to what the sources say? Left guide (talk) 04:43, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how reliable the book is as it's not available online. Most of the user's content contains original research or content that can't be sourced because it's not readily available. Most of the sources they do provide are primary sources. They tend to add content and then try to provide a source later [3], but the sheer volume of content they are adding can never be reasonably retroactively verified and sourced. Their comments here document that. They reiterate this here, where they demonstrate content ownership rhetoric. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:26, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Have you thought about raising the matter regarding the user's conduct at WP:ANI? If you feel it's too much for you alone or a few editors to handle, that can be an appropriate venue to enlist community support and assistance in dealing with problematic behaviors from a rogue single user. From what I can see, you've made good-faith efforts to resolve the issues on talk pages, and you've had a balanced and reasonable demeanor while doing so with arguments backed by policy; those would count in your favor from the admins and other experienced regulars. Left guide (talk) 12:12, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've never used ANI before and I don't think this situation is at that level yet. I'm apprehensive about having to notify the user. I'd prefer organic assistance but due to the nature of the topics, it's not something anyone is going to dedicate time to. Regarding the New Zealand men's national basketball team article, are you comfortable tagging the page? Do you wish to get involved? DaHuzyBru (talk) 12:58, 28 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To answer your questions, not by myself, (sorry for not answering earlier when you first asked, got distracted by some of the other details) which is one of the main reasons I chose to come here to your talk page in the first place. After reading some of the talk page discussions, I realized I lack the energy to deal with that user 1v1. Left guide (talk) 02:28, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, not sure if you noticed but that user is now indefinitely blocked for disruptive editing, and also turned out to be an extension of that extremely disruptive IP as you suspected. Technically, they were evading the IP block since it expired on 20 May, while the account was created and started editing on 9 May. In any case, should we restore the articles they edited? Even aside from the block evasion, you had content concerns. Left guide (talk) 09:58, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I saw that. I wanted to let the dust settle first. I was going to tag the NZ national team page and then maybe reach out to WT:BASKETBALL. I'll have a look at cleaning up Franklin Bulls too at some point. I'm not sure how constructive it would be to simply revert their entire set of contributions – the rugby community essentially did, but there could be merit to some of their NZ basketball content. What do you think? DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:17, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I noticed that the rugby folks just reverted straightaway, for hoops, here are the Bulls edits and here are the NZ nat'l team edits (both diffs include the IP). Are the sources even good? I don't have much knowledge or interest in this specific topic, just trying to help out since that user was ridiculously disruptive for such a long time. Left guide (talk) 10:42, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When I did a clean up in November [4] after the original IP got blocked, I did try to incorporate some of the refs they added. A lot of the refs on the NZ page were primary, so a lot of it should be trimmed so we aren't being shills to Basketball New Zealand. DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:48, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ahhh, apparently the user has a COI, you knew that? Not surprising to me based on the behavioral pattern. Left guide (talk) 11:01, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the user is a fan and volunteer of the Franklin Bulls. They are also very particular about and protective of the Pukekohe region. From their rugby edits, they are a fan of the local rugby team as well. They are blinded by being a fan – Wikipedia is just not the place for them. I actually suggested Fandom.com to them last year. Melbourne Boomers - Geelong United

[edit]

I am contacting you on behalf of the Deakin Melbourne Boomers. We wanted to address some recent changes made to the Melbourne Boomers Page. While you are correct that Geelong United has acquired the WNBL license, they have not purchased the Boomers brand. The Deakin Melbourne Boomers brand remains intact and is not relocating to Geelong. The two teams are distinct entities, so the history of the Bulleen Boomers/Melbourne Boomers should not be listed as a succession to Geelong United. It would be more appropriate for Geelong United WNBL to have their own new page. MelbourneBoomers (talk) 01:09, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The consistent approach across Wikipedia is to keep sport team franchise history in one article. This is apparent across the NBL and WNBL project areas. It often includes renaming, rebrands, license transfers or team relocations. DaHuzyBru (talk) 02:58, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DaHuzyBru
My name is Tony Hallam and am Board Chair of Melbourne Boomers.
Tracey my colleague contacted you last week and shared with me your feedback on her request to change the Wikipedia page that has added Geelong United to the Boomers history.
I appreciate your reasons for responding as you have and eg when Dandenong Rangers became Southside Flyers this approach makes some sense.
Our situation is completely different as follows:
- the WNBL has issued Geelong United a NEW license to participate in the WNBL - see this article on the announcement https://wnbl.basketball/geelong/2024/05/09/wnbl-welcomes-geelong-united-basketball/
- the Geelong WNBL team has NO connection to the 40 year history of the Boomers
- the Melbourne Boomers is continuing in our own right - we retain the WNBL IP and brand for the Melbourne Boomers as a separate entity
I would appreciate your consideration on this matter and reflecting this by separating the Wikipedia pages to reflect the above. It is a sensitive matter for many people involved with the Boomers - and as you appreciate it has some emations related to this also.

[edit]

About the recent reverts in his categories, I understand your point, but now as his appointment is officially announced and he has signed the contract, he is already technically the coach of the team, right? Even if something might occur later and he left before any matches? 10:30, 4 July 2024 (UTC) Syvä-äksy (talk) 10:30, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for reaching out. The general rule for players is to not add cats until they official debut. The same should apply to coaches. I know the likelihood of something changing is slim, but he could excel at Summer League and get recruited elsewhere and literally never make it to New Zealand. We really don't need to jump the gun. The regular season starts in September. DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:41, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, sure, understood. No biggie, all good.10:43, 4 July 2024 (UTC) Syvä-äksy (talk) 10:43, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi mate! Would you mind taking a look at this article and correcting his club history? An IP did a big overhaul and combined tenures into season entries (which as you know is not how it’s done) but also changed dates so I want to be sure it’s correct if that bit is undone. Thanks for any help you can give! Rikster2 (talk) 14:27, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Was mostly accurate, just very messy. The article needs more expansive sources, is currently too reliant on eurobasket. DaHuzyBru (talk) 15:43, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks man! Rikster2 (talk) 18:25, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Darnell Edge revisions

[edit]

Hi, I’m the creator of this paid page. Thanks for your revision yes I certainly did add emphasis on his free throws and other stats given he opted to have all of his achievements listed, including Eurobasket. I appreciate that I am new to the Wiki creation so thanks for your edits. I am assuming you saw my edit request? I did make one specifically for his college section with some links I asked to have reviewed before I put them back in the article. The freshman sophomore and rest of the junior seasons were omitted by another admin due to school website citations, however, I added other sites that I thought would suffice. If you do get a chance to review my request there, please feel free to let me know if these can be added back with the new links I provided.
