Auto patrolled
Hi yunshui, I was thinking of getting this right , how to go about this ? Shrikanthv (talk) 06:19, 26 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Shrikanthv. There's no point requesting that userright at the moment - you've only ever created nine articles, which is way below the 50+ threshold that's the basic requirement for autopatrolled. It's no great loss; autopatrolled really does nothing for you - it's just a way to keep the workload at WP:NPP down. If you aren't churning out an article every couple of weeks, there's no point in you having the userright. Yunshui 雲水 08:06, 26 November 2014 (UTC)

Tala Golzar
Hi dear Yunshui i am manager of Tala Golzar a well-known iranian model in Los Angeles, you have recently deleted her wikipedia page and she just sent me a message can you please tell me the mistakes on the page so we can edit it?
shayan@live.com is my email adres ,send me an email please
she really needs her page back on wikipedia
Shayan — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shayanred (talk • contribs) 20:07, 28 November 2014 (UTC)
- Firstly, the page was copied verbatim from her Facebook page, making it a copyright violation. Secondly, the article contained no references to reliable, independent sources. Thirdly, the content appeared to have been written solely for the purposes of promotion. All three of these are reasons for deletion in and of themselves. I should also point out that what your client "needs" on Wikipedia is wholly immaterial to Wikipedia itself; this is not a social networking site, and we do not allow the subjects of articles here to dictate the content of articles about themselves. Terry A. Osborn
The page was speedy deleted at my request, but I would like to reinstate it. Is that possible? Wikivol (talk) 00:52, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- I've restored it in your userspace at User:Wikivol/Terry A. Osborn - it still needs a bit of work to bring it to mainspace standard (that list of laudatory quotes needs to go, for starters). You can work on it in your userspace and then click the green "Submit" button at the top when you're ready to have it reviewed. Yunshui 雲水 08:29, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
Other language wiki reference help
Hi yunshui, how do we treat reference which are from other languages ? and what happens if the article entirely depends on the reference to pages which are not in english Shrikanthv (talk) 09:51, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- Per WP:NONENG (part of the Verifiability policy), non-English sources are permitted, but English sources are preferred. The best course of action with such references is to proved, within the reference itself, a short translation of the relevent text. There's no reason I know of that an article couldn't be based solely on non-English sources, indeed, I suspect we have quite a few which are. Less than ideal, obviously, but as long as the general criteria for reliability are met, the language of a source is largely immaterial. Yunshui 雲水 10:00, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
In article creation help
Hi Yunshui, I just noticed wiki does not have an article about motor energy effeciency & standards practised in the industry here is an idea of what it is link, how ever i found this article , this seems to be talking about this but is intermixed with govt programs and the title really does not suit the content . so should i go ahead and create a new article and then merge the above article with the new one or simply edit this one ? Shrikanthv (talk) 10:24, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- Merging articles is always an awkward chore, and the Premium efficiency page needs a good deal of work - I would suggest that you get stuck in to editing that article directly. Hopefully you can give it a bit more coherence. Yunshui 雲水 10:27, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- But Yunshui Premium efficiency is really false and mis leading , some times the terms are used by commercial motor manufactuerers to boost the product features, there is no "premium" to any motors and there are typical standards set up by two or three international bodies and they differ in themselves on what they think is right, is it ok if i create a article called "Motor energy effeciency" ? the article content is also outdated as we have now IE 5 motors while the article is still talking about IE 3 as "premium" Shrikanthv (talk) 10:38, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- can it be made DDK article after that ? Shrikanthv (talk) 10:47, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- DYK? (DDK is something else entirely!) Only if you either increase the prose fivefold or get it to GA status in the process; I would say either is unlikely, but that's not to say you shouldn't try! Yunshui 雲水 10:50, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

DYK nomination
hi yunshui , I just created this article Dahlander pole changing motor , it was quite surprising that such a basic stuff was missing in english wiki , is it fine for DYK nomination ? Shrikanthv (talk) 13:25, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- It's still a bit too short to be nominated, you need another twenty-to-fifty words to meet the minimum requirements for length. Looks generally okay otherwise, though I haven't checked the sources out. Yunshui 雲水 13:32, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- (I should add that I don't understand the article at all; I'm guessing it makes sense to an engineer but us lay people need a bit more hand-holding for the technical stuff!) Yunshui 雲水 13:33, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- Kind of stuck with expansion, really not getting an idea with expansion Shrikanthv (talk) 14:22, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hm. Perhaps some examples of where it would be used, and what it's used for? It might also be an idea to add some more explanation around how it actually works; I've sort of got the impression that it might work by passing a current through a series of electromagnets in sequence, but that might be entirely wrong... Try writing for someone who doesn't understand how an electronic motor works at all (e.g. yours truly) and think about how you'd explain it to them. Yunshui 雲水 14:28, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

- Okay, I've given it a once over. I reckon you shouldn't have too much trouble getting it through DYK. Hook might be tricky - the best I can come up with off the top of my head is "... that pole-changing motors are named after their inventor, Robert Dahlander?" I'm sure you can the DYK guys can come up with something better. Yunshui 雲水 09:56, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

FA
Hi Yunshui, Was just thinking anyways have put so much effort into Aurobindo article , is it ready for an FA ? Shrikanthv (talk) 09:26, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
- Not at the moment, I'm afraid - looking at the talkpage, it seems that even the GA status is in doubt. I've only had limited experience of FA: I only have one to my name so far, but whilst that was a comparatively easy promotion, it still required over 36,000 bytes of discussion (that's 10,000 more than are in the actual article), over a month of deliberation, hundreds of edits and many, many hours of work before it was ready. If you want to get Sri Aurobindo to FA - which is a feasible, though Herculuean, goal - you will need to do a great deal of additional work on it. I don't think it would be quick-failed in its current state, but it certainly wouldn't pass without considerable improvement. Yunshui 雲水 09:37, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

The fact was ... that Hibutsu ("hidden buddhas") are found only in Japan? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hibutsu. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. - Rollback is a userright that's granted to trusted users, which allows you to revert multiple consecutive edits by the same editor. Twinkle, which any registered user can install, does the exact same thing, along with a whole bunch of other bells and whistles. To be honest, I don't really know why we keep Rollback around, given that anyone can Twinkle themselves up and do exactly the same thing... Yunshui 雲水 13:58, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi yunshui, I just got a information that i got a mail ? it could be little bit silly but where is the inbox located! and hmm before going into edit warring here also my discussion in talkpage , what would you think is correct for wiki Shrikanthv (talk) 07:25, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- The inbox is your inbox - mail goes to whichever email account you've associated with your account (it's listed in your Preferences if you can't remember). As for Saffron terror - way too much "alleged" stuff going on there; whilst it's appropriate to identify allegations if that is what they are, such claims still need to be soundly sourced. Vandalism
I spent a long time considering the activities of User:89.187.100.76 at Little Nicky before I was sure they were vandalism. I finally reverted them and issued a level 3 warning because I thought they were so serious. They were cleverly done and while undetected, lowered the credibility of Wikipedia. If I had my way I would block this user, but perhaps that is against policy. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 13:27, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Not against policy particularly; if they were still at it I would happily boot the IP for a day or so. However, their editing spree seems to have concluded; there's been no activity from the IP for a few hours. I suspect whoever is responsible has given up, so I'll leave off blocking for now, though I'll keep an eye on the IP. Yunshui 雲水 14:37, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

- Hi Yunshui, I noticed the unblock request. In my opinion "I have read through the Wikipedia:Non-free content article briefly and I have understood the Wikipedia policy of using non-free content and will adhere to the rules." sounded reasonable enough and asking to express again in own-words felt a little like WP:IWANTTOHEARYOUSAYIT. Perhaps giving rope would have been less hassle. --AmritasyaPutraT 13:41, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Given the history of copyright violation, a bare minumum requirement for unblocking is an understanding of Wikipedia's copyright policies, which are comparatively complex. I for one am not willing to unblock an editor who has been quite literally breaking the law on their word that they now understand these policies, especially considering that he had been warned multiple times and continued the same behaviour. The fact that the supposed reading of WP:NFC (not actually Wikipedia's principal copyright policy, which he didn't even claim to have skim-read) was admittedly "brief", plus the fact that a previous unblock request actually claimed that copyright should be ignored if the information was valuable to Wikipedia, also contributed to my unwillingness to unblock based on this claim.
- I believe you are misreading WP:EHP, which says nothing about confirming a user's understanding of their block; it simply suggests that administrators should not require an admission of wrongdoing before unblocking. I do not require such an admission, I require a demonstration of understanding of a policy which all the available evidence suggests this user does not understand.
- Editing Wikipedia is a priviledge, not a right. If Wikipedia is likely to be harmed as a result of allowing a particular user to edit, we do not let that user edit. We are under no obligation to be "fair" to that user and allow them another chance. Whilst WP:ROPE is a useful way of thinking about blocks, when the user is blocked for activity which has a direct legal implication for Wikipedia, it is not appropriate to unblock them "just to see if they do it again". I would suggest that you familiarise yourself with Wikipedia's blocking policy, rather than its user essays, as it is this policy which actually governs the criteria for unblocking users. Yunshui 雲水 14:32, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining Yunshui. You are probably right. --AmritasyaPutraT 02:54, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

Karuna Ezara Parikh
Hi! I want to ask you to check something for me. User:Danice thrall was blocked as a sockpuppet of User:Padmalakshmisx. After that, article "Karuna Ezara Parikh" was deleted by you as WP:G5 [2]. Now, a newly registered user User:Gokudu recreated the article. This seams suspicious to me as this new account is only one day old. I can't see deleted articles, but I'd like to ask you to search for the deleted article and check if the newly recreated article is identical (or similar) to the deleted one. If it is, than it might be a sign of sockpuppetry. Thanks! Vanjagenije (talk) 12:10, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes I (new user) copied and saved the old article in my note pad (ex:Karuna Ezara Parikh) created by the other sockpuppet.
- And I have pasted it since it was well written.
- The content did not attempt to disrupt or vandalize wikipedia.
- Think again before you take a call. Retaining such good content is no harm.
- how can the same sock edit within one day, if his IP is blocked?
- why dont you take the lead and create those articles, if you are that much into expanding wiki
- if others do your job, why do u suspect them.
- if some one is disrupting wiki, admin will take care of it, why do u waste ur time in trivial matters.Gokudu (talk) 12:53, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

- @Gokudu:, if you're not the person, why did you feel the need to copy the article into your notepad? One thinks that you knew that it would be deleted.
- "other" sock puppet? Are you admitting that you are one?
- CSD G5 is a valid reason to delete, whether or not the article harms Wikipedia, because the person is not allowed to edit. Not the account(s), the person.
- It does harm the encyclopedia, as it sends the message that blocks aren't serious.
- The user can change IPs if they don't have a static one. The sock master has plenty of socks, presumably created through a block or two, so they'd know how.
- Expanding the encyclopedia isn't the problem; sometimes trimming bloat is more necessary.
- Admins aren't omnipotent, and @Vanjagenije: did his job well by warning someone with the power to do something. I generally do the same when I come to something that needs admin tools. Origamiteⓣⓒ 04:14, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
- You somehow stumbled across and saved the article two days before registering an account, then recreated it in an almost identical format, showing considerable knowlegde of Wikipedia's formatting processes, and then immediately demonstrate an understanding of Wikipedia concepts such as sockpuppetry, vandalism and IP blocks - and you expect me to believe that you're a different person? Pull the other one, it's got jingly Christmas bells on. Account blocked, article G5'd. Yunshui 雲水 08:35, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Yunshui I think I unearthed something I did not want here, what to do with this ? is it perfectlly acceptable in wiki ? , I know for sure with time this is going to kick up conflict in article they are in already !? what should be the right thing to do ? The user is going on adding that Abhinav Bharat , Sangh Parivar & VHP organisation have been accused of involvment / allegegly the members invovled to many of controvercial articles ? e.g 1.1) here 1) here 2) here 2.1) here 3) here 4) here 5) here 6) here 7)here 8) here here 9) here here

- Looking at these, I see a diverse range of statements and sources. Those that I've checked appear to be supported by the sources cited, but I've only looked at a random sample. If you disagree with these edits, you're going to need to make a case for the rejection of either the sources or the interpretation of them. You might find the BLP noticeboard a good starting point for this, but I'd recommend you start with just one or two of these article rather than swamping the board with all of them. It's more than I personally have either the time or the inclination to deal with at the moment. Yunshui 雲水 09:14, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

help WP:SOCK check
(have posted with other page too who has the premission for wiki check)
Hi yunshui, needed a help from you regarding checking if these two accounts or socks user:Kautilya3 and user:Thinkmaths (I think there is doubts by other users too) , I do not have permission for this check users. I do not want any data nor anykind of information only want to know if both are socks . I do not want to falsly allege nor implicate contributors (who could be good wikipedians)
Reasons why I believe that user:Thinkmaths is a sock of user:Kautilya3
1)if we check the user:Thinkmaths his main contribution is for saving the article here and original user:Kautilya3 is also very much deeply involved in protecting the article
2) user:Thinkmaths created on 9th of december who is pretty new to wiki (new commer) talks shows deep knowledge and editing of wiki article here
3) both the users are normally present at the same moment during any discussion (same time)
4) the intent of edit shows adding of particular name of a organisation in various pages his main contributions to wiki articls till now, in history of edits hereShrikanthv (talk) 07:42, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
- I think it's very unlikely. Thinkmaths, whilst the older of the two accounts (registered on December 9th in 2011), has only recently become active and appears to be an SPA interested in the Saffron Terror debate; however Kautilya3 has a range of edits across numerous topics and an apparently wider range of interests. It's remotely possible that the same user created Thinkmaths three years ago and then resurrected it to support his/her Kautilya3 account in a debate, but it seems far more likely that these are two different users - why would Kautilya3 have reserved this account purely to get an extra voice in this debate? They've been involved in plenty of heated discussions before when backup from a sock would have come in handy. Aside from commentary on Saffron Terror they've never edited in the same areas (Kautilya3 has as much crossover with Thinkmaths as you do), plus they don't even seem to agree on that. You'd never get a checkuser at SPI with that evidence; I wouldn't even bother trying. I don't see any indication that this is a case of sockpuppetry. Yunshui 雲水 08:45, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Saffron terror
Hi yunshui, had nominated this for deletion here, eventhough there is support for deletion my be 45% , I see that there is some support it to be renamed (by neutral editors) , as a mentor would ask your suggestion should i still wait till it to be closed or should i convert this discussion to rename ? Personally I feel that the article is a complete synthesis (according to thinking of some wiki editors) and on its own really did not find any neutral unbiased research or secondary sources Shrikanthv (talk) 07:12, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Whatever be the case, please wait for the AfD to close before making any major changes. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 07:24, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- A "rename" discussion is a move request, and is outside the purview of AFD, so you can't change it from a deletion discussion to a rename discussion. You can, if you wish, strike your nom and !vote in favour of renaming, but given the number and variety of !votes, the AFD discussion will still have to run its course. Congrats!
Hey, just caught the ArbCom election results. Congrats on your successful run, Yunshui. I'm happy to see you on the committee. You know what this means though— more people spelling your username wrong. Maybe some of them will make your list... :) I, JethroBT drop me a line 06:18, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hmm; I must confess I'd rather expected (hoped?) that with the subsequent influx of quality candidates my nomination would go by the board... Nevertheless, thank you; I guess I'd better go re-read all the ArbCom pages again. Yunshui 雲水 07:58, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- I came also for congratulations, and please don't read the old pages, create something new! So far arbitration was (for me at least) a synonym for waste of time, and ideally it shouldn't even be needed, - let's work on that ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:04, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Similar edits
Hi Yunshui, this is just a stupid thought but do these accounts seem similar to you in any way? UsernameHardBlocked II and Pediiawiikii ?? --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 06:43, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Couldn't say for sure, though it's definitely a possibility. Either way, they're both VOAs; I've now indeffed Pediiawiikii as well. Thanks for the notice. Yunshui 雲水 07:55, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Okie. It struck me as odd, but it could merely be a coincidence. It pinged me because the second account undid my edit and changed my edit summary. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:08, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
- Well, who doesn't have crushes at college? I certainly did. As I said, it certainly could be the same user, but a VOA block is quicker and less trouble than an SPI, and has the same net result. Yunshui 雲水 08:14, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Not assuming good faith
Hi Yunshui, sorry to bother you. I just wanted your opinion on my talk page. AFAIK, this is assuming bad faith. I'm a little confused as to why this came in such a manner. --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 08:34, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
Is that so?
Yunshui, at your user page you write: "I was recently asked what the proudest moment of my life had been. My graduation, the births of my children, my wedding, various promotions - all took second place to my successful RFA." Were you just joking, or it is how you really feel about your RFA in comparison to your family? 2001:DA8:8000:6082:260:97FF:FEC0:7B1A (talk) 20:49, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

You should probably take everything I ever say at face value, and never assume that I'm kidding. Yunshui 雲水 08:30, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, for example. I'm planning to dominate the world with my Hairless cat while eating a Popscile. I'm also going to go for an RFA and become the new Jimbo wales. Yes, you can't believe what everyone says on Wikipedia. But if they are respected (Like Yunshui here) then it's a pretty good bet if they say they are not lying that they are not lying. Adoption
Hi Yunshui, just checked that I am not in your adoption list ? :( Shrikanthv (talk) 07:26, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- That's correct - you went on a bit of a break last year and so I closed the adoption - you've been flying solo for a while now. We could take it up again if you like, but I don't think you'll need it. Plus, with Arb work looming I doubt I'll have much time for other stuff in 2015 anyway - if you do want to be re-adopted, you might be better served by someone else on the list. - I saw your decline. Please take a look at Talk:Goryeo/Archive 1#Condensing the "status" section of the infobox and Talk:Joseon#Discussion Regarding the Status Label of the Infobox. A lot of IPs and newbies have been trying to remove or modify the information from both articles for more than one year. I always use talk pages. Similar information can be found at Ryukyu Kingdom, but no editors tries to remove it. It obviously whitewashing, not a dispute. Oda Mari (talk) 09:39, 10 December 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not disagreeing with you, but since it is, in their view, a genuine attempt to improve Wikipedia, it isn't vandalism - and therefore it's not an exception to the 3RR. I wholeheartedly support "your" version of the article (it has infinitely better sourcing and is, well, just historically accurate) but that doesn't mean you can edit war over it; that just brings you down to their level. Wikipedia has no deadline, and if the article ends up in the wrong version for a time whilst an RFC or similarly thorough consensus is established, it's far from the end of the world. Destabilising the page through edit warring is not constructive, however. Yunshui 雲水 10:57, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

- Hello Yunshui! I don't want to start a lengthy discussion on your talk page, but Oda Mari may have mislead you with some of his/her statements. I actually did attempt to edit the Ryukyu Kingdom page, as well as the pages of other Imperial Chinese tributary system members such as the Nguyen Dynasty and the Ashikaga Shogunate. However, Oda Mari reverted all of these edits. The discussion we're having is not just pertinent to the pages related to Korea, but to other pages in addition to the ones I mentioned above. The reason the discussion is taking place on the Goryeo and Joseon pages is because that's where the current status label was first contested. Hope that cleared things up! - I am not affiliated with these pages, but I want to note that Oda Mari has a long history of heckling other people, engaging in edit-war's, and threatening new-comers with sanctions. She frequently wears out the patience of other people but has largely escaped sanctions from administrators through a usual dance of evasive manuevers. If you find her behaviour to be disruptive, consider getting the page locked for a few months. 76.69.142.123 (talk) 09:59, 21 December 2014 (UTC)
