Morris etc
[edit]Had forgot to follow up on the century before lunch issue. I checked this with Johnlp and another person (whose response is in gmail which I cannot access from here) and it seems Perry's assertion that Morris was only the second batsman, after Bradman, to do it cannot be true for both interpretations of "century before lunch" (adding 100 to overnight score, or, start the innings in the morning and complete 100 before lunch). I'll get back to this after getting home in the evening.
The Macartney thing isn't that important but is a very good read. I read it in the anthology The Joy of Cricket. My copy is back at my parents' place, so can't access it at the moment. IIRC, it was taken from Fingleton's Masters of cricket. Tintin 06:50, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
To summarise from Johnlp and the other friend, Roy Minnett is apparently the first batsman to score a century before lunch in a Shield match. According to Wisden Book of Cricket Records (1986 ed), Minnett moved from c40* to c160*, and as per Charlie Wat's Australian First Class Cricket (1993), Minnett started of 65* and ended on 188*. So Morris appears to the third to do it (Bradman did it thrice in between) and not second. Tintin 01:29, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Hey Blnguyen, yesterday you added a sockpuppet tag on this user's page citing CU evidence that I haven't been able to find. I don't know the background, just stumbled on his vandalism (and blocked him for 24 hours — he wasn't already blocked from the sock evidence), but was wondering if you could follow up on this. Insertions of copyvio by Vietnamese editor
[edit]Hello, I've noticed that anon editor 96.229.179.106, who apparently is interested in Vietnam history articles, has repeatedly posted a copyvio in Talk:Vietnam in the Time of the Second World War (now deleted). Going by his last edits on that page, he might not have understood why his work kept getting deleted, hence his reposting.
Please consider leaving him a notice in Vietnamese telling him why he shouldn't post copyrighted text here. Thanks! Resurgent insurgent 00:30, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Blnguyen, could you please take a look a the LTTE article. I gave some citations regarding certain issues, one from the Hindu newspaper and the other from a prominent SL(internationally recognised) historian who has done extensive research regarding our inscriptions and published various volumes of that subject. And these have been blatantly removed with a edit note saying your sources are fairy tales.ThanksIwazaki 会話。討論 03:55, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Also, this User:Wiki Raja has no edits other than blatant reverts in the article .Not only that he has no edit even in the talk page ,has done absolutely nothing constructive to the article. He is just purely acting as a reverting machine or probably 3RRR evading account in most of the SL related articles just like the LTTE article..This is getting absolutely out of control and I hope wikipedia will take necessary actions regarding this. FL Main page proposal
[edit]You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination recently. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual content will resemble the current content at the featured content page. Such output would probably start at the bottom of the main page. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 19:11, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

web citation issues
[edit]Sir, I am in the process of converting web citations (which some users are harping about) into book citations. I have cleaned up the History/Literature portion of Chalukya dynasty and Rashtrakuta Dynasty and removed "www.OurKarnataka.com" citations as sufficient book citations already exist to attest to a particualr popular view. However web citations from Dr. Jyotsna Kamat's web page will remain because she is a renouned historian in Karnataka. I have left the "ourKarnataka.com" web citations remain in non-controversial sections like "Architecture", where the origin or language of an Empire does not arise. Darren Heitner DYK
[edit]Re your post on my talk page:"Where do you get all these amazingly obscure and offbeat stuff from?"[1] I've been getting my ideas from articles listed at AfD. For example, I closed the Darren Heitner AfD as keep because it obviously met Wikipedia policy standards, but just lacked the sources in the article. The original article focused on his agent career, but the reliable sources only covered his early life. Rather than try to force a topic to meet some sort of pre conceived notion of what should be in the article, I take time to search out all information on the topic. I then add the usable information from each source to the Wikipedia article chronologically. In this way, I let the reliable sources tell the story and this leads to amazingly obscure and offbeat information. My close of the AfD#1 caused a tiff, and now the Darren Heitner article is at AfD #2. I found Dammit, Janet! (now at DYK suggestions and at AfD#2) while closing Rocky Horror songs AfD. I'm not sure what is going on at AfD as there seem to be many listings that should not be there. However, I think it important to at least protect the DYK articles. In view of my recent experiences and my ongoing review of DYK history, I posted DYK deletion sorting. -- Jreferee t/c 17:00, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

merging pages physical phenomena and phenomena
[edit]Hello,
The pages physical phenomena and phenomena cover the same topic (phenomena has two definitions the physical one being the first and the philosophical being the latter). I would merge them, however when I brought up the issue on the WP:PHYSICS talk page a user began making unsound arguments and threatening to initiate an edit war if I merged the articles.
I believe the user's misunderstanding lies in the fact that he/she does not understand that there are two used of the word, or- well I don't know because he/she won't respond to my responses but instead goes off on a tangent. I am asking your opinion on the matter because you are both an administrator and a WP:PHYSICS member. Is there any way you can find to resolve this dispute (hopefully peacefully)?
