Topic ban
Hi Wizardman, when you closed this discussion as 'Ban of indefinite duration enacted', does that include other people nominating his articles? It was certainly suggested, in "I would go so far as to say that, as part of the DYK ban, his articles should simply be deemed not eligible", but I have nominated a couple of his articles and want to ask if it is allowed. Hi, Wizardman! Glad to see you on the AMA.

Help with new draft for Gary Loveman
Hi there, Wizardman. I saw that you're a member of WikiProject Biography and I wanted to ask if you could review a draft I've written for the Gary Loveman article. Gary Loveman is the CEO of Caesar's Entertainment and although his article is generally ok, I'm hoping to improve it by providing new sources, updating it with new information and formatting the citations consistently. As I've prepared this draft on behalf of Gary Loveman, I have a conflict of interest with this topic, so will not make any edits to the article myself.
If you're able to help with this review, and possibly updating the article if that is something you would feel comfortable doing, I would really appreciate it. So far I've posted about this on the article's Talk page and on the Talk pages for WikiProject Biography and WikiProject Business but haven't received any response. The request at Talk:Gary Loveman explains the changes I'm hoping to make in more detail and also provides a link to the draft in my user space. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:55, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
- I'll take a look at this later this week; noting here so I remember. Wizardman 02:33, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks Wizardman. Let me know if you have any questions. 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 22:56, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Wizardman, I'm wondering if you think you might still have time to review my draft for the Gary Loveman article or if I should continue to look for other editors to review. Also, if you know of someone who might be interested in reviewing my draft, please let me know. I'm not sure where best to reach out about this article, I have a few WikiProjects in mind to ask but none stand out. I'll reach out at those if you think you might not have a chance to take a look yourself. Thanks, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:59, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

GA review closing technical question
BlueMoonset recommended your expertise in this unique GA review matter. I reviewed an article that has been a GA for a few years, it was a GA going into the review. The nominator requested another review on the article because she had added a lot of new material and wanted to make sure it was still up to standard. I agreed, it deserves to continue as a GA. So that I don't screw anything up technically, how do I properly finish/conclude/close out the review at Talk:Disappearance of Madeleine McCann/GA1? Many thanks in advance. --ColonelHenry (talk) 01:21, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
Welcome to the 2014 WikiCup!
Hello Wizardman, and welcome to the 2014 WikiCup! Your submission page can be found here. The competition will begin at midnight tonight (UTC). There have been a few small changes from last year; the rules can be read in full at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, and the page also includes a summary of changes. One important rule to remember is that only content on which you have completed significant work, and nominated, in 2014 is eligible for points in the competition- the judges will be checking! As ever, this year's competition includes some younger editors. If you are a younger editor, you are certainly welcome, but we have written an advice page at Wikipedia:WikiCup/Advice for younger editors for you. Please do take a look. Any questions should be directed to one of the judges, or left on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will make it to round 2. Good luck! A block Secret made and evidently intended to revisit
Hi Nick, the notice on Secret's talk page refers us to you and Nick for issues regarding his/her past administrative actions, so I have put an identical note on their talk page. There's also a relevant thread on HJ Mitchell's talk page where I intend to leave a note ...
Ryk72 was blocked indefinitely with reference to an Arbcom decision and on the strong suspicion of being a returning user. I've checked their talk page history and do not see their having been warned of the applicable Arbcom sanctions (the first post there was a series of questions that they reacted badly to; I wish there had at least been a welcome template first) and I consider it to be possible that they merely have an expert interest in the field of the discussion to which their edits were made, and/or that their expertise in Wikipedia comes from either being a quick study (they're right, some of us are) or an editor exercising the right to a Clean Start. They have been advised to e-mail Arbcom and that avenue is of course still open, but they might have privacy concerns ... and in any case I see that Secret himself/herself was inclined toward revisiting the situation, and I can see several possibilities even if we think of it as a WP:ROPE situation. I suspect what has happened is they've dropped through the cracks because of the holidays (and attendant angst) and the coincidence of Secret's retirement from adminship. I may be being sadly naïve, and I do appreciate the stress of these seemingly insoluble problems of duelling nationalist interests, but I don't see leaving this editor blocked as clearly benefitting the encyclopedia; there's a chance we're depriving ourselves of someone useful who just started out in a strife-torn area. Perhaps one could ask them where else they would like to edit, and go from there. However, their unblock request was declined, and Arbcom sanctions are in the picture - and I may indeed be being very naïve. So as one of Secret's two designated go-to fellow admins, could I ask you to have a look? Yngvadottir (talk) 22:00, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello! I recently advised a newbie, User:Geercom, who wanted to request an article about journalist David Geer. (They had put the request in the wrong place.) WikiCup 2014 January newsletter
The 2014 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with, at time of writing, 138 participants. The is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2010. If you are yet to join the competition, don't worry- the judges have agreed to keep the signups open for a few more days. By a wide margin, our current leader is newcomer Godot13 (submissions), whose set of 14 featured pictures, the first FPs of the competition, was worth 490 points. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:
- 12george1 (submissions) and TropicalAnalystwx13 (submissions) were the first people to score, for the good article Tropical Storm Bret (1981) and its good article review respectively. 12george1 was also the first person to score in 2012 and 2013.
- Sven Manguard (submissions) scored the first ITN points for 2014 North American polar vortex.
- WonderBoy1998 (submissions) scored points for an early good topic, finishing off Wikipedia:Featured topics/She Wolf.
- TheAustinMan (submissions) scored the first bonus points of the competition, for his work on Typhoon Vera.
- Igordebraga (submissions) has scored the highest number of bonus points for a single article, for the high-importance Jurassic Park (film).
Featured articles, featured lists, featured topics and featured portals are yet to play a part in the competition. The judges have removed a number of submissions which were deemed ineligible. Typically, we aim to see work on a project, followed by a nomination, followed by promotion, this year. We apologise for any disappointment caused by our strict enforcement this year; we're aiming to keep the competition as fair as possible.
Wikipedians interested in friendly competition may be interested to take part in The Core Contest; unlike the WikiCup, The Core Contest is not about audited content, but, like the WikiCup, it is about article improvement; specifically, The Core Contest is about contribution to some of Wikipedia's most important article. Of course, any work done for The Core Contest, if it leads to a DYK, GA or FA, can earn WikiCup points.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Closing ANRFC discussions
Hi Wizardman. I noticed that you worked on the AfD backlog today (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/True Jesus Church in Singapore and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Asad Zaman).
Would you consider closing some of the discussions at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Requests for closure, particularly the Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion discussions which require the admin tools? I remember reading your AfD closes in the past and have always found them to be well thought out. I searched for your name at WP:DRV and found your detailed close at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ginger Jolie. I remembered reading your detailed, carefully considered close when I tagged the AfD with the deletion review template.
Your ability to read complex discussions, distill the consensus, and clearly explain your thought process would be very helpful in resolving disputes at ANRFC. If you don't have the time or the inclination to close ANRFC discussions, then no worries—I understand. Thank you again for the good work you do here, particularly at WP:CCI (and specifically at the CCI I filed here). Best, Cunard (talk) 11:03, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

GA Review
hey, thanks! all of the grammatical errors you listed have been corrected, and i've deleted the segment regarding the skate park. while i'd love more information regarding the legal situation, what i have here is all that is currently available on the subject through my research. and lastly, i've added a tiny reception section, comprised of retrospective reviews. it's difficult to find reviews of the album (considering it's actually just a demo that got picked up on CD later on and distributed worldwide). well, at least it's difficult to find reviews from reliable sources - i don't view sites like absolutepunk or sputnikmusic as true sites for reviews. i've added a rolling stone, allmusic, and a small segment from the total guitar interview already cited.
if there's any more questions/suggestions, let me know! Thardin12 (talk) 02:45, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
sleeping giant versus Bengali film
I saw the plot section of Jaagoo and then compared it to its cited source (unquoted).
I feel confident the same well-meaning author has done the same with all his other articles about Bangla movies, and maybe some of his other created articles and/or his other contribs.
Should I go through preparing exactly five examples of problematic pasting, and then ask for a CCI? Just out of tiredness, I would prefer not to. Is it the easiest way? Can I do it without five examples? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 00:12, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
Question
Why did you delete the GA talk pages for Talk:Operation Corridor 92/GA1 and Talk:Battle of Logorište/GA1 ? I did not abandon them. I am confused? I've been a tad busy as of late, but I have been in the middle of some pretty unusual circumstances and was waiting on a response. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 05:55, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Don Gault you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Closing GA reviews
I notice that the GA review for Patrice Chereau was closed and that a message that the article had passed was sent from me to the nominator. How did that happen? I hadn't passed the article. Not all of the concerns that I raised were fully addressed. --Jburlinson (talk) 23:43, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

I've left some comments on that section on the talk page, and feel free to ping me if you want me to take a look at anything else. Actually, I was heading your way with a favour request too. Harrias began to review the D'Oliveira affair at GA (link), but has been unable to finish it as real life is a bit busy, and he says he is unlikely to get chance any time soon. I was going to ask you if you could take over; if not, I'll ask at WT:GAN, but GAN can be a strange place at the moment and the quality of reviews seems to have slipped. As I'm aiming this at FAC, I'd appreciate a good reviewer. It is another cricket one (obviously!) but there's not a huge amount of actual cricket in it, and it is actually a huge race controversy connected to South Africa in 1968. But if you have neither the time nor inclination, I quite understand! Sarastro1 (talk) 22:32, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion archiving
Hi Wizardman. Thank you for clearing much of the MfD backlog in response to my request for assistance at User talk:Wizardman/Archive52#Closing ANRFC discussions!
On 2 February 2014, you removed the MfDs you closed from Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion.
Closed MfDs are usually kept on the page so Legobot (talk · contribs) can archive them to the subpages of Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Archived debates. For example, Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Dancingwiththestars09, one of the closed MfDs removed, should have been archived to 18 December section of Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Archived debates/December 2013.
I've restored the MfDs you removed so that the bot can archive them.
I've added several more very old MfDs to WP:ANRFC, so if you have the time and consideration, please consider closing them. Thank you again for your excellent work! Best, Cunard (talk) 10:37, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive
It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
- This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
- Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
- The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
- An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.
More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.
I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Reasioning
Did you have a reason for this? Is there a time limit on how long an article is allowed to be on "review"? I was just about to ask the one commenter that wasent a reviewer, if he was willing to complete it. STATic message me! 03:46, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
- An article can be under review indefinitely so long as the reviewer is actually reviewing the article. Unfortunately that was clearly not the case there, so better for a new reviewer to just start fresh so you can get a real one. Wizardman 03:51, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
Books & Bytes New Years Double Issue
Happy New Year, and welcome to a special double issue of Books & Bytes. We've included a retrospective on the changes and progress TWL has seen over the last year, the results of the survey TWL participants completed in December, some of our plans for the future, a second interview with a Wiki Love Libraries coordinator, and more. Here's to 2014 being a year of expansion and innovation for TWL!
The Wikipedia Library completed the first 6 months of its Individual Engagement grant last week. Here's where we are and what we've done:
- Increased access to sources: 1500 editors signed up for 3700 free accounts, individually worth over $500,000, with usage increases of 400-600%
- Deep networking: Built relationships with Credo, HighBeam, Questia, JSTOR, Cochrane, LexisNexis, EBSCO, New York Times, and OCLC
- New pilot projects: Started the Wikipedia Visiting Scholar project to empower university-affiliated Wikipedia researchers
- Developed community: Created portal connecting 250 newsletter recipients, 30 library members, 3 volunteer coordinators, and 2 part-time contractors
- Tech scoped: Spec'd out a reference tool for linking to full-text sources and established a basis for OAuth integration
- Broad outreach: Wrote a feature article for Library Journal's The Digital Shift; presenting at the American Library Association annual meeting

Disambiguation link notification for February 24
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cleveland Indians all-time roster, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mark Reynolds (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Could you please help me?
Hello, Wizardman! Sorry to bother you. I've withdrawn from the review of Les Misérables (2012 film). I used the "db-self" template to delete the review page. But I could not restore the "start review". I'm starting to get worried about it. So if you don't mind, I'd like to seek your help in this. Could you please tell me the correct steps to follow while withdrawing from a review? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time, --Seabuckthorn ♥ 23:24, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
- Looks like I got beaten to it. For future note though, on the Talk page you'll want to remove the "onreview" note in the status section. That'll bring the template back to normal. Wizardman 01:18, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks --Seabuckthorn ♥ 23:57, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
Tricky
First attempt creating an article on here proved harder than expected. The draft was deleted for copyright infringement but I thought work marked as draft wasn't moderated yet? I can only develop the article during quiet spells at work so need more time to get it together/submit docs than that. My account was also deleted apparently, which makes this even more of a pain in the backside. [01:26, 14 January 2014 Wizardman (talk | contribs) deleted page Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Erotic Trade Only (G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement).]

A. Chawla - Review
@Wizardman I have created A. Chawla article and you have deleted it, I don't know why but as seen comment on Article deletion review I don't think that that article is for promotional activity, it is a simple biography of A. Chawla as others, which have some good notable references and biggest company references. I am reading Wikipedia from so many years and I think you are reading and writing from more than my time. So just read again, it is your thinking how you take any article in a way. So I request you to kindly read article and revert it back as I have done many edits and I use to read Wikipedia rules. WikiCup 2014 February newsletter
And so ends the most competitive first round we have ever seen, with 38 points required to qualify for round 2. Last year, 19 points secured a place; before that, 11 (2012) or 8 (2011) were enough. This is both a blessing and a curse. While it shows the vigourous good health of the competition, it also means that we have already lost many worthy competitors. Our top three scorers were:
- Godot13 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer whose high-quality scans of rare banknotes represent an unusual, interesting and valuable contribution to Wikipedia. Most of Godot's points this round have come from a large set of pictures used in Treasury Note (1890–91).
- Adam Cuerden (submissions), a WikiCup veteran and a finalist last year, Adam is also a featured picture specialist, focusing on the restoration of historical images. This month's promotions have included a carefully restored set of artist William Russell Flint's work.
- WikiRedactor (submissions), another WikiCup newcomer. WikiRedactor has claimed points for good article reviews and good articles relating to pop music, many of which were awarded bonus points. Articles include Sky Ferreira, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus and "Wrecking Ball" (Miley Cyrus song).
Other competitors of note include:
- Hahc21 (submissions), who helped take Thirty Flights of Loving through good article candidates and featured article candidates, claiming the first first featured article of the competition.
- Prism (submissions), who claimed the first featured list of the competition with Natalia Kills discography.
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions), who takes the title of the contributor awarded the highest bonus point multiplier (resulting in the highest scoring article) of the competition so far. Her high-importance salamander, now a good article, scored 108 points.
After such a competitive first round, expect the second round to also be fiercely fought. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2, but please do not update your submission page until March (UTC). Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.
