2nd AfD for Nadini Premadasa

[edit]

Hi, I see that you have unsuccessfully tried to nominate this article for deletion for the second time. If you know that the article is not substantially different from the first incarnation, please feel free to nominate for speedy deletion (Db-g4). For now, I'll just try to fix the AfD for you. Jarkeld (talk) 19:35, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Please state why you nominated the article for deletion at the discussion page here. Jarkeld (talk) 19:43, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I closed the AfD because the article was g4'd as I said above. It's a good option in these cases. Jarkeld (talk) 17:53, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There are still problems because you are reusing the original author's style and words. It is common because, we learn of the subject from the source. I will look into today. you are getting better, but still lots of work to be done. It would help, if you wrote down your points in sinhala and then retranslated them into english in your own words. (works for me). will do a rewrite later in the day.--Sodabottle (talk) 04:50, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I have not got time actually to help re-write this article, and I don't think I would be good at it, but I can give you some ideas:
  • To avoid what you write being too close to the original sources, first read the sources carefully again, then go away and do something else for an hour or two, then write the article in your own words. After that, you can check it against the sources to make sure it is accurate, but if you make any changes then, be sure not to take actual sentences from the sources
  • Then you can ask for comments at WP:Requests for feedback. If you do that, explain that you are trying to avoid copyright problems.

Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism. Wipeouting (talk) 17:28, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wipeouting, I see that you are persisting in adding your edit based on a self-published source. I have begun further discussion at Talk:Premakeerthi_de_Alwis#FAO User:Wipeouting, but would suggest you refrain from retrying your edit until consensus is reached. To continue with your insistent addition of this information could be construed as disruptive editing, a link you should read. Thanks, Bigger digger (talk) 15:56, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
You have been indefinitely blocked from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from other sources without verifying permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted.

Please take this opportunity to be sure you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content. If you believe this block is unjustified or if you are able to provide a credible assertion that you understand and intend to comply with these policies, you may appeal the block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:57, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid that it seems you are unable to stop copying content onto Wikipedia. In a series of edits to King George Hall, Colombo over yesterday and today, for instance, you added the following text:

The University of Ceylon was established in July 1942. Its predecessor was the Ceylon University College (UC), about 20 years extant, affiliated to the University of London. The Chancellor of the was The Governor of Ceylon, and its first Vice- Chancellor was Dr. Ivor Jennings On the opposite side of Thurstan road were cited the Science and Arts Blocks, King George’s Hall, the main lecture hall and the cricket grounds.

This source says:

The University of Ceylon was established in July 1942. ...Its predecessor was the Ceylon University College (UC), about 20 years extant, affiliated to the University of London.... The Chancellor of the U of C was ex officio The Governor of Ceylon, and its first Vice- Chancellor was Dr. (late Sir), Ivor Jennings, a fortunate and laudable acquisition indeed...On the opposite side of Thurstan road were sited the Science and Arts Blocks, King George’s Hall, the main lecture hall and the cricket grounds....

It goes on.

Your contributions to that article have been deleted. Your other contributions will be evaluated for copyright concerns as well. Our copyright policies have been explained to you many times; I do not believe you should be permitted to continue editing without some very clear and plausible indication that you will follow these policies. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 23:00, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

More about the current concerns

[edit]

Wipeouting, respectfully, I believe that you are probably attempting to do something on Wikipedia that will prove nearly impossible at this point in your efforts to add extensive text. If you are not fluent in English (as some of your talk page comments suggest you may not be), you are likely to find it extremely challenging to read sources and reformulate them in original language. I have some ability in a few other languages than English, but I don't believe I would be able to do this in any of them. While you are certainly fluent enough to converse well with others here, I worry that you are not fluent enough to compose extensive content. Copyright is a very serious matter on Wikipedia. So far, none of your efforts to rewrite articles that have been tagged for copyright problems have been usable because they have all continued to be copyright problems. I've asked other copyright workers on Wikipedia to review them just to make sure that others saw them as a problem as well. After the ones we've identified have been cleaned up by other people, you have come back and added copyright problems to them again and now, as with the above, all new articles have had copyright problems added. I do not believe that you are intentionally creating these problems, but since you keep creating them anyway I don't know how we can be sure that you will stop. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:13, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Friend , if it is possible to unblock I solve the problem you have Identified. I do my future works with out Violating any copy rights. you can block me permanently next time ? --Wipeouting (talk) 06:47, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How would you propose to solve this problem? I don't see how you can avoid if it you intend to continue adding extensive text. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:31, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Moonriddengirl.I exclude all problem texts assist with other friends writers. surely i will continue my editing getting advises from other writers who have better experience than me. you can block me permanently next time if i make another fault. II really appreciate if you can assist me to solve my Problems . I wrote few unblock requests and all were rejected. what should i do next --Wipeouting (talk) 14:16, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you should reconsider what you want to do here to help out. If your friends are able to access these sources and handle them in accordance with our copyright policies, why not point out the sources to them and allow them to compose the content? I would imagine that you could add sourcing to articles that need it, add infoboxes, contribute the various improvements that do not require composition without any challenge. It is far better for Wikipedia that we have incomplete coverage than that content is added to articles that does not legally belong to us. Not only might that get us into legal trouble, but it can also cause a lot of damage to articles down the road. If we find an article in 2010 that somebody added a copyright infringement to in 2008, we might lose two years worth of work from other editors to that content. If you were willing to pledge to contribute in other ways than adding text, I think that might help. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:40, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Friend I understood, dangerous of copy rights violation very well now. I am not going to adding those problematic text or Violate copy rights further. I hope do my contribution to Wikipedia using other ways. I follow your and other friendly writers advises definitely.--Wipeouting (talk) 18:57, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you would agree to voluntarily restrict yourself to contributing in ways that do *not* add text to articles, I would recommend that you replace your last unblock request with a new one explaining your willingness to do so and why. As I said before, I don't believe that you have intentionally caused troubles, and I would be inclined to take your word for it myself. However, another administrator will review your request. But I do have to caution you that you would need to be careful here. It's for everybody's benefit if you stick with your restrictions, because I know you can contribute valuably to the project in other ways that will not risk future copyright problems. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:10, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Friend , I perform on Wikipedia as I promised you --Wipeouting (talk) 04:56, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear friend ,What should i do for unblock ? Could you please assist me ? --Wipeouting (talk) 12:00, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I would suggest waiting a week or so and coming back with a very clear pledge to not add text anymore, but only to contribute in other ways. What you wrote in your last unblock request ("I exclude all problem texts assist with other friends writers. Surely i will continue my editing getting advises from other writers who have better experience than me.") does not guarantee that you will stop the problem, since you refer to "problem texts". I'm afraid that we have to assume that if you could recognize clearly "problem texts", you wouldn't have added them to begin with. You've shown that you can do positive contributions that don't involve adding text, as here. (Although I don't at all understand why you removed so much sourced information from this article as well as useful categories like "Living people" and "Year of birth missing".) Ultimately it will be up to the community to decide if your pledge can be trusted and if it is worth the risk. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:56, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed most of information is in correct the article you mention on link two. He is a business man and there are lots of Promotional links are added as foot notes. I was tried to develop this Article writing from Middle of point of view. It was not finished because I was Band. I got your point and don’t go to Add text any more to Articles. I do my contribution like first link you mention. I hope write another appeal after week. Thanks --Wipeouting (talk) 12:45, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add unsourced content, as you did to Iranganie Serasinghe. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. It seems there is a little bit or plagiarism from the article Sunday times 8 February 1998. Please see Wikipedia:Plagiarism as to exactly what we expect editors to avoid. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:59, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
