Creating a sidebar
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Please help me with... What is the wikitext code for creating a sidebar. By "sidebar" I mean a box off to the side of a paragraph, carving space in the text to display information. The sidebar is typically text or image set off with borders and possibly color. - Do you mean an infobox by any chance? Chess (talk) (please use
{{ping|Chess}}
on reply) 04:47, 16 May 2020 (UTC)- What you're describing is a common feature of articles; they are created using one of the infobox templates.
- A helpful tip: when you see something on another page that resembles what you want to create on your own page, open up the source to see how it is done. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 06:11, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Infobox format, file, and location?
[edit]This help request has been answered. If you need more help, you can , contact the responding user(s) directly on their user talk page, or consider visiting the Teahouse. |
Please help me with... Thank you. Next step. I so appreciate your help. I need help defining and loading the data that I want to appear in the infobox. As you can see the name of the infobox is taken from the sandbox URL (not helpful). How do I create the data file? Where do I post it? I am accustomed to "reverse engineering" code to build what I want, but I cannot find the naming convention or location for the data. Again, thank you. - Hello! Since you've only been editing your sandbox, and it contains a rejected draft that doesn't conform to Wikipedia's Manual of Style, it's hard to understand what you're asking for since you didn't specify the data you want to appear.
- Are you trying to find a sidebar like the one at the Yoga article? If so, there are almost 200 sidebars at Category:Sidebar templates.
- Are you trying to find an infobox like the one at the University of Khartoum article? If so, there are almost 2,000 infoboxes at Category:Infobox templates.
- If you provide more information (and remove the "-helped" from the help me template at the top of this section), we can try to provide a better answer. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 21:07, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
Your sandbox
[edit]From your past edits, it seems likely that you think you are preparing a Wikipedia article in your sandbox. Having looked at its current state, I wanted to suggest that you find another place to post your writings, since your draft so far exhibits several traits of what Wikipedia is NOT. Making claims about meditation as it relates to health means that your references must meet the much stricter standards of WP:MEDRS. There should be no sort of 'how to' aspect to the article. I'm sorry if this seems frustrating to you, but there are many other places on the internet where writings such as yours would be welcome, but English Wikipedia is not at all likely to host this article in the form you seem to be taking it. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:20, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
I have carried your concerns to the author. Since then he has made revisions. I have begun to make his requested revisions. I have relayed your concerns about giving medical advice. I will note when the draft is ready for review. Not yet.WStlw 02:12, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
Your signature
[edit]It looks like your signature, where you style yourself 'SocratesChildren', is not compliant with the polices that apply to signatures, in particular * A customised signature should make it easy to identify your username
- A customised signature should provide an easily-identified link to your talk page. You are encouraged to also provide a link to your user page.
Please fix it. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:27, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
Problem with your custom signature
[edit]You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. A change to Wikipedia's software has made your current custom signature incompatible with the software.
The problem: Your preferences are set to interpret your custom signature as wikitext. However, your current custom signature does not contain any wikitext.
The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, or you can fix your signature.
- Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
- Remove anything in the Signature: text box. (It might already be empty.)
- Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (The red "Restore all default settings" button will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)
- Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:
- Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
- Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
- Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page.
More information about custom signatures is available at Wikipedia:Signatures#Customizing how everyone sees your signature. If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. 19:04, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
