Dispuptive editing
[edit]Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at H.J. Whitley. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continual disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. You also made a disruptive edit to Charles E. Toberman where you reinstated a reverted edit. Would you also please familiarise yourself with Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Thank you. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 11:47, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not add unsourced or original content, as you did with this edit to Whitley. Doing so violates Wikipedia's verifiability policy. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 20:10, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Whitley. Shellwood (talk) 20:14, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
- Can you help me out. Not sure what is wrong. Is it the map picture I added? It was given to me by H J Whitley. I am his great-granddaughter. Not sure how to source. I have the original document. Thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whitleyfamily (talk • contribs) 20:26, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hello. Wikipedia does not publish WP:Original research. You should submit your map to a WP:Reliable source which can then vouch for not only for its authenticity but also for its WP:Notability. Read all the links that have been provided for you on this page. Good luck! Sincerely, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 00:37, 1 June 2018 (UTC)

I am one person and I am part of the Whitley family. It is not a business and does not represent one. What I am attempting to do is make wiki have the correct historical information. I have newspaper clippings from late 1880s to the future. I used Whitley family because it is easy to remember so that I can log on easily. I am a senior citizen, one person, and that is easier for me. I am not being paid by anyone to do this. I have posted things over the years and have never received any payments. It is very strange and a bit unnerving to be attack this way. It was better when I just used my IPS address. At this time I am one of the foremost historians on Hollywood History. If you feel I will be banned for my name let me know and I will try to come up with something else. /* Whitleyfamily */ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Whitleyfamily (talk • contribs) 22:52, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
- I thank you for your reply. I would suggest that you change your name to better indicate that an individual uses it, as your current name suggests that more than one person uses it or could use it, which is not permitted. You don't need to start totally over as stated above. You don't have to use your real name.
- I don't think anyone means to attack you per se, but an important principle of Wikipedia is verifiability. All information must be verifiable. It doesn't have to be online, but it must be available to access somewhere. We can't just take your word for it, no matter your credentials. You might find information on citing sources at WP:CITE which may help you. 331dot (talk) 23:20, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
Signature needed
[edit]Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:
- Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
- With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.
This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.
Thank you. --David Biddulph (talk) 23:05, 13 September 2017 (UTC)
Copying within Wikipedia requires proper attribution
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Hollywood into H.J. Whitley. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was moved, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 21:06, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
- I see you are still not adding the required attribution, as required under the terms of the CC-by-SA license. Please have a look at this edit summary as an example of how it is done. Please leave a message on my talk page if you still don't understand what to do or why we have to do it. Thanks, — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:37, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
- Actually. I was the original contributor to the water and power site. I didn't realize there was the same information on Wiki for the Hollywood sign. My information is coming from family archives which consist of diaries, Board meeting minutes, new paper articles, photographs and much more. How should I handle this? I do not want to spend time searching all of wiki each time I post. All I am attempting to do is make the history complete and correct. Whitleyfamily ]] Hope I signed off correctly.
- The webpage http://waterandpower.org/museum/Early_City_Views%20(1925%20+)_Page_3.html contains a great deal of content copied from various Wikipedia articles. It should therefore not be used as a citation. Please find another source. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 19:04, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

- Go to the article Hollywood and find the content on Whitley. Some of it may have citations. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 11:39, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
