I beg to differ on the subject of your neutrality. However, I do appreciate the fact that you have chosen to contact me regarding the matter. The article has served the purpose for which it was intended. Ms. ----, If you happen to have a free weekend; Bavaria is quite beautiful. Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Webmgr! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Karsten Voigt - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

This is an automated message from VWBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Olga Holtz, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~oholtz/vita.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) VWBot (talk) 14:54, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Olga Holtz requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. This isn't to discourage you from making an article about her; she has an article on German Wikipedia. However, if you are going to do that you cannot copy and paste her CV from an external website; even though some of it was paraphrased, it was far too close to let go. When it gets deleted, I'd encourage you to recreate the article without the infringing material. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 15:21, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Have added interwiki link. Keep up the good work; I really appreciate your contribution at maintaining WP's quality standards. --Webmgr (talk) 20:32, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Allison Stanger for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Allison Stanger is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allison Stanger until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. aprock (talk) 05:15, 3 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Carsten Jacobson has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. As an experienced editor you will be aware that simply changing a few words here and there is insufficient to create an article here. A full rewrite is required, perhaps using that original text as a citation. Your article has a substantial verbatim text match with the original, and other words show only light changes. The article Richard Moore (engineer) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

Would his official bio, from his own university web page, already referenced under "external links," suffice? --Webmgr (talk) 07:20, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, footnote your articles about living people when you create them, or don't create them. Sources must be reliable, third-party secondary sources, not primary ones affiiated with or written by the subject. Yworo (talk) 07:27, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
...unless they meet the requirements listed on WP:SELFPUB --Webmgr (talk) 07:37, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nope, primary sources alone do not establish notability. See the general notability guideline. An article with no secondary sources at all will be deleted. Typically, a minimum of two reliable, independent, third-party sources are needed to establish notability. We don't write biographies of people for whom no other third-party biographical sources exist. Yworo (talk) 07:38, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, the criteria for academics would apply. --Webmgr (talk) 08:05, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Only if you can establish verifiability using independent, third-party, reliable sources. We do not take the subject's word for their accomplishments. We use self-published pages from the subject only for personal data such as date and place of birth, residence, etc. If you can establish the facts through reliable independent third-party sources, then the criteria for academics would apply. The verifiability requirement isn't negotiable, it is required. Yworo (talk) 15:19, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Revandalism

[edit]

Ok, so I forgot to add a source for this tiny contribution. It may appear a quick solution to simply delete unsourced contributions, rather than making the effort of amending another user's slight. In the long run, however, such unforgiving practice frustrates well-intentioned authors, not just women, and discourages further participation. Verifying and adding missing sources may be an annoying chore, but it immediately improves the article, and it establishes a work atmosphere that benefits the WP project at large. Blindly reverting and deleting, on the contrary, isn't helpful — neither for the article nor for the overall collaborative climate. --Webmgr (talk) 04:58, 5 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just had a look at this article and it looks like a cut-and-paste from the German WP. This is fine, provided that proper attribution is given. For this, you should put the {{translated page}} template on the article's talk page. In addition, the translation if far from complete. For example, you left things like [[John O'Keefe (Neurowissenschaftler)|John O'Keefe]], which gives a redlink (of course, because we don't use German disambiguators), but who has an article (unsurprisingly, as he got a Nobel Prize last Monday): [[John O'Keefe (neuroscientist)|John O'Keefe]]. The same goes for names of institutions and universities, which often have articles here, but under their English names, which here are more appropriate than the German names, of course. Thanks for your contribution, I didn't know this foundation and I found its history interesting. Hope you'll find some good sources so that the notability tag can go. --Randykitty (talk) 08:33, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, in the future, references are placed in-text, not in the edit summary. Check out our page on referencing for more details. Thanks! Tek022 | Comments? 07:54, 9 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The Foreign Area Officers Association which advertised that luncheon with Nagata in Fort McNair along with his bio is tied to the U.S. Navy's Naval Postgraduate School, so I find it only reasonable to assume that such an organization on such an occasion would publish Nagata's official military bio which as a work of the USG is in the public domain. What is your alternative explanation, a scenario which would constitute a copyright claim to a list of dates and ranks? Andrew J. Weinstein moved to draftspace.

[edit]

An article you recently created, Andrew J. Weinstein, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Modussiccandi (talk) 11:46, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm the editor who moved your article to draft. I did so because I think the subject has some merit, but you did a very poor job of finding sources. Please find more in-depth coverage of Weinstein before considering a move to the mainspace again. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 11:47, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
