Your deletion
[edit]was reverted as the reason you gave was obviously incorrect. As to your ignorant statement, a reference is given which in turn bases on German court records. --Dodo19 (talk) 19:48, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry for my "ignorant" statement. Your claim based on a single sentence (...das mit Hilfe von Angehörigen der 20. Waffen-SS Division unter dem Befehl des Kommandeurs der Ausbildungs- und Ersatzeinheiten, Georg Ahlemann, abgeriegelt wurde) from the lone source you provide is simply incorrect. Don't you think the Soviets wouldn't have used this for their propaganda if it were true? The fact remains that after interrogating the surviving witnesses even the Soviet authorities, who did their utmost to demonize the 20. Division, never accused any members of the Estonian Division in any of the crimes committed at the Klooga concentration camp, because they simply weren't present. However, accounts abound of how the Estonian conscripts arrested the German officers who were in charge of the training camp. How could Ahlemann be in two places at the same time, under arrest at the training camp by his own soldiers, and providing security at the concentration camp? What your precious court records (that you probably have not seen with your own eyes) contain is most likely the orders how the liquidation was supposed to have taken place (just a conjecture;).--Vihelik (talk) 22:05, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Campus Ambassador at IU
[edit]Hi Vihelik, thanks for your interest in the Wikipedia Campus Ambassador role. What are some of the campus-based topic-oriented Wikis you've worked on?
More details about the Campus Ambassador role can be found at http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_Campus_Ambassador. Here is also a little bit more information; in a nutshell:
The Campus Ambassadors are crucial components of the Wikipedia Public Policy Initiative. Volunteers in this position will be in charge of training and supporting the participating professors and students on Wikipedia-related skills, such as how to create new articles, how to add references, how to add images, etc. Campus Ambassadors will also help recruit other people on campus to contribute to Wikipedia articles, for example by setting up Wikipedia-related student groups and by organizing "Welcome to Wikipedia" social events. In general they will become known as Wikipedia experts on the university campus (in your case, on the Indiana University campus). The estimated time commitment for this role is 3 to 5 hours a week, possibly slightly more at the very beginning and very end of the semester. The Wikimedia Foundation will hold a three-day training for all Campus Ambassadors in August, and will continue to stay in contact with and offer full support for the Campus Ambassadors throughout the academic semester.
If you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador at Indiana University, I would like to send you the application form. What email address can I send this to? (Feel free to email me this info if you prefer: alin@wikimedia.org).
Thanks. I look forward to hearing back from you!

Central Europe
[edit]First of all, Wikipedia is an encíclopedia, all famous Encyclopedias use the Central Europe term. All European Geography society of national scientific academies use the C.E. term too. Therefore the denial of this term is unencyclopedic and unscientific. It is a geographical (scientific) qustion rather than political.
Encyclopedia Britannica Cambridge Encyclopedia Columbia Encyclopedia
German Brochaus Encyclopedia
French Larousse and French Encyclopædia Universalis
All of them use the Central Europe term.
United Nations is chiefly a political organisation rather than scientific.
- To User 77.111.183.192: You must be confusing me with somebody else in the article discussion page. I never claimed that the term Central Europe shouldn't be used, or that it is unencyclopedic or unscientific, or made any claims about the UN. I simply deleted a map that, along with its definition of Central Europe, was falsely ascribed to the United Nations, when, in fact, it can be traced back to StaGN - an organization that oversees the streamlining of geographical names in German-speaking countries. Please check earlier versions of the article, not only the edit summary which, apparently, can be misleading. By the way, the same map is correctly used in section Mitteleuropa, the German term to illustrate the concept of Central Europe in German tradition. --Vihelik (talk) 15:05, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Contribution team
[edit]Greetings! Please excuse this intrusion on your talk page, and allow me to invite you to participate in the newly-formed Wikipedia Contribution Team (WP:CONTRIB for short)! The goal of the team is to attract more and better contributions to the English Wikipedia, as well as to help support the fundraising team in our financial and editing contribution goals. We have lots of stuff to work on, from minor and major page building, to WikiProject outreach, article improvement, donor relations, and more—in fact, part of our mission is to empower team members to make their own projects to support our mission. Some of our projects only take a few minutes to work on, while others can be large, multi-person tasks—whatever your interest level, we're glad to have you.
If this sounds interesting, please visit WP:CONTRIB and sign onto the team. Even if there does not appear to be anything that really speaks out as being work you'd like to do, I'd encourage you to join and follow the project anyway, as the type of work we'll be doing will certainly evolve and change over time. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me, or ask on the team talk page. Regards, ⇒DanRosenthal Wikipedia Contribution Team 22:18, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- By the way, this is a human edit (not a bot). I'm specifically contacting you as you expressed interest in the Campus Ambassador position, and the Wikipedia Contributions Team has a lot of commonality in working along with the Campus Ambassadors. You can reach me on my talk page, or by email at drosenthal@wikimedia.org with questions; I can't guarantee that I'll be checking back on your talk page often enough to hold a sustained conversation there. Western Europe
[edit]Hello there. Credible sources are sources. There are Western Europe maps/definitions that include more countries than those in the map, so the "at least". You can change the "at least" if you think it is POV, but I think you should not delete the map based on the sources already provided. Unobjectionable (talk) 20:29, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, my question again: What makes Finland WE, but not Greece? Who decides that? Is your your map based on geography, history, or what? One map in the intro part is enough, and the UN map is clearly better (it is based on defined criteria). You are welcome to add your map elsewhere in the article, provided you define the criteria for the composition (geographic, socio-economic, historic, or whatever). Right now you force the reader to go to the websites you provided in the references. All references you provide are maps of convenience defined for the specific purposes of the organizations that use them.--Vihelik (talk) 20:35, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
- The UN map is a map of convenience too. The UN states precisely that. We can find countless sources with a non-UN version of Western Europe, that includes my Western European country, Spain and Italy in WE. Unobjectionable (talk) 20:44, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you for your detailed analysis. I have in my posession a German map showing the same borders. Don't forget, that all the territories of the Brothers of the Sword became part of the Teutonic State. As far as correcting the map, even if you are correct, I can't do it. I'm indefinitely banned from the German related articles. Sorry. Thanks again, Space Cadet (talk) 18:51, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Vihelik, here is my address: spacecadet123@inorbit.com. Send me yours, I will not abuse it. I have a couple of things, that I want to send to you. Children's Museum update
[edit]It's time again to share the latest news on the Children's Museum of Indianapolis Wikipedia project! In the last few months we have been busy with our third image donation, which was made up of 150 images that were professionally photographed specifically for this upload. We are asking for volunteers to categorize these images and distribute them into Wikipedia articles. Your help is appreciated! Check them out here.
We have also donated our first video and a second GLAM-Wiki Infographic to Commons. In September we were thrilled to welcome Jimmy Wales to the museum. Following our successful Edit-a-Thon and Translate-a-Thon in August, translations have continued with the help of the established QRpedia community, (particularly Russian translations thanks to Lvova!) We have begun to analyze our implementation of QRpedia codes and completed an extensive case study. In November we presented at the Museum Computer Network conference about how museums can effectively collaborate with Wikipedia. You can see more details on the Prezi.
In more general news, in addition to serving as the Children's Museum's Wikipedian-in-Residence, it was recently announced that I will be taking on the role of US Cultural Partnerships Coordinator for the Wikimedia Foundation. In this role I will be working to streamline the process of connecting interested US GLAMs with the Wikipedia community. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to let me know. Be sure to sign up for This Month in GLAM to keep up with the latest GLAM-Wiki news from around the world (subscribe).
We have a listing of High Need and Moderate Need requests on the Ways to Help section on the project page. I encourage you to lend a hand if you're able. While the Children's Museum partnership continues to truck along, we still are in desperate need of volunteers to help disperse our images and update and maintain content. Thank you for your time and help. Happy holidays! LoriLee (talk) 16:45, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

- English one looks okay to me. The Chinese characters for Xian Na is wrong though, checked and it should be 仙娜. Translating the names is not really that useful, Xian in Xian Ni and Xian Na basicaly mean immortal or fairy. Xian Ting if you translated it directly would be Constitutional Court, which doesn't really make sense here, I think they just wanted similar sounding but distinct names for their ships.--KTo288 (talk) 21:44, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Nomination of Võro Wikipedia for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Võro Wikipedia is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Võro Wikipedia until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. eh bien mon prince (talk) 01:32, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
The article Võro Wikipedia has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No statement of notability
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. TheChampionMan1234 10:56, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
Population update project
[edit]Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.
A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.
Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).
Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.
Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)
Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.
If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.
The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.
Jump in at the WP:LANG talk page if you have any comments or concerns. Thanks for any help you can give!

Hi. I see you are listed as a member of a WikiProject of a Baltic state. I was wondering if anybody who actively works on Estonian, Lithuanian or Latvian articles, would be interested in launching your own Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Baltic), based on the Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic) and Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea would be to try to bring about 1000 article improvements and creations on this region as an enjoyable challenge and potentially things like National Contests with prizes. If you'd be interested and think it's something you might regularly contribute to, comment and sign up at Talk:Baltic states. If there is interest we can move this to a project somewhere and set something up, thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:26, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Europe 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:10, 7 November 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Your recent editing history at Gustav Naan shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
