Football article improvement drive
[edit]A United fan from Leeds? That must get interesting...
I just wanted to let you know that when voting for articles there's no need to change the nomination date as it's supposed to stay the same. It's on there to help people work out if the article has had the 3 votes a week that it needs to stay on. CTOAGN (talk) 16:02, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Joining Projects
[edit]Hi! You asked me how to become a member of various associations such as Wikipedia:WikiProject_Indian_cinema . . . in most cases, it is simple . . . just visit the Project Page and then look to see if there are any requirements for the members, and check to see if you meet them, and if you do, then add yourself to the list. the managers of the project will then usually visit your talk page and add an information portal and how to get started. Many projects have no particular requirements other than user interest. So feel free to add yourself to a list and talk with the other members and that's basically all there is to it! If you need more assistance, please feel free to ping me. I will answer here on your talk page if you like. Arundhati bakshi 16:25, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Tom Chaplin
[edit]i'm trying to do this Tom Chaplin page
- Do you need help? Arundhati bakshi 16:52, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well yeah....Tom chaplin's the singer for the band Keane and when you click on Tom chaplin in the Keane article, it gets redirected and the keane page comes up again and not the tom chaplin article.--Victoria Eleanor 16:55, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- That's because the Tom Chaplin page is a redirect page . . . it will redirect you to the Keane page. What you need to do is edit the Tom Chaplin page itself and get rid of the redirect and add your info. Click here to do this. Arundhati bakshi 17:00, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
Userboxes
[edit]You can learn all that you need to now on Userboxes here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Userboxes -- its best not to overuse them, but they can convey information about you to others very quickly and visually. There is some discussion about getting rid of some of the political ones, so you may want to avoid using those. You may copy the format and templates that I have used on my userpage (I have them in a table) and add them to yours, then you will want to edit the page and alter the userboxes to suit your own preferences after reading about the various categories available. Please let me know if you need any more assistance. You can test it out on your Sandbox if you like. Arundhati bakshi 18:08, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Hello...
[edit]Hello,
I was browsing the "Wikipedians interested in electronics" category for new entries and I chanced upon your page. Good to see that you have very good knowledge of Hindi & Marathi. Rohitbd 08:51, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Hi....
[edit]Great to hear about somebody who's into electronics completely!!!!!I'm basically into Indian Culture and History. And gosh, India's history is really vast!--Victoria Eleanor 14:48, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I am (perhaps not that) completely into electronics. And its such bliss to be a musician, isn't it? I can't imagine myself doing anything more than "bathroom singing" let alone play any instrument :-) Rohitbd 14:56, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
Barnstars
[edit]To award a Barnstar, read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Barnstars and then take the template for the type of Barnstar you wish to award and paste the code on that person's talk page. You can fancy it up by using the "frame" parameter as you can with all images, which is how I usually see them placed on a page, with your own text for the reason for the award. Just grab the template you want and paste away! If you need more help let me know.
(Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 13:35, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the barnstar! I didn't know that you meant to award one to me! :) Thanks again! (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 19:12, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks!
[edit]Hi Victoria!
Just a quick note to say thanks for the barnstar, and also for supporting my (doomed) RfA. Regarding the latter... it is pretty frustrating how bad the re-submission is looking considering that the first one was one hour away from passing! Never mind - it has been a good experience and illustrates that adminship is not for those with a clear personal views about the way things work!
Anyway - many thanks once again, and hopefully we'll be in touch! DJR (Talk) 16:28, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

Re: Uploading Difficulty
[edit]To upload a file, save the file to your hard drive under a suitable name. Then naviagte to Special:Upload and under "Source filename", click the browse button and select the file that you wish to upload. The "Destination filename" will likely then be filled in for you (this mainly does things like get rid of spaces and lowercase CamelCase names). Next, you have the "Summary (author, source URL, {{tags}}, etc.)" box. If you did not create the imageor information needs to be added about author copyright, the URL where you got it, etc., add it here. You can leave this blank if you choose. Lastly, and most importantly is the Licensing info. You may use an image most often as fairuse or logo, or webpage screenshot (Note: this is *only* for software or webpage screenshots, not isolated photos on a web page.) Read through the copyright section a choose the correct one. Then upload the file.
If your image does not have the right copyright info, it will usually be deleted quickly.
So be sure to get that information right and to make sure you have the legal right to use that image. if you need more help, let me know. Before uploading, take a look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Image_copyright_tag -- they explan copyright pretty good there. (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 14:38, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Images
[edit]Hello VE. the images that you asked me of look perfectly Ok, provided you used the correct license. And don't worry, you will not be blocked about uploading copyrighted images (unless it becomes obvious you are doing it to vandalise the place -- I would stand up for you since you asked first). They would just be deleted and you would be notified. Don't take it personally, as I have made errors like this myself.
Just remember if you get if from a website, it is almost certainly copyrighted -- then you will need permission. If the photographer releases all rights, then it can be in the public domain. If it is a promotional photo it needs to be labelled as such. if in doubt slap the {{fairusereview}} tag on the image and someone with more expertise will review it. if you got it from a web page, or magazine, etc., list the source.
Photos I usually find necessary on articles about people as you want to see what they look like, but this is also a headache for me since the American copyright laws are so funny. As for now, I would say you are safe with these images, as long as they are really in the public domain. (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 15:08, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, certainly. You see, when you choose a license, a licensing template is automatically added to your page. You can alter this if you find it necessary. just click on the image itself and that will bring you to the image page . . . then click on "Edit" . . . you will see a tag with the copyright info. Then you can alter it if the license is wrong. Look at WP:CP and take a gander at that page and the probs listed and how they are dealt with. Also, some images can be used under a not-free license . . . you just need permission to use them. Try clicking on images that you see and looking at the source of the page and getting used to the tags, and you will get a better idea of what tags to use for what kinds of images (I am doing this as we speak). If in doubt, use {{helpme}} on the top of your talk page and someone will be with you in an instant, but likely they will just ask you where you got the image and read the policies to determine its legal status. Image Tagging Image:050521 ColdplayBerryman vs standard.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading Image:050521 ColdplayBerryman vs standard.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. bluemask 13:46, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- This is what I was talking about before if you didn't specify the source or choose the right license. Don't let this bother you -- I have gotten several of these messages. Just try to correct the information. I have found Deeptrivia of invaluable assiatnce to me in retaining images. In this case, you need to state the source of the photo, and probably claim fairuse. (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 16:23, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
- I have found where you likely got the photo: http://www.pleasureunit.com/coldplay/photos.php?category=guy and cited the source, then claimed fair use and to be sure, I have added the fairusereview tag so that someone else can get a look at it and make sure of its legal status. Hopefully this will alleviate the possible deletion problem. (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 16:30, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
New Welcome Message?
[edit]Could you look at Item 25 on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Esperanza and comment on it -- this is a proposal that I think may save many of us headaches in the future. (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 23:13, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Message & Pic
[edit]Well, the new welcome message is something that has been preoccupying me for some time now since I see so many new people here with good intentions who are clueless as to what they shouldn't do, get offended and just leave, when they were under the impression that they could start an article on anything based upon the previosu welcome messages. Then they see they are under attack for their efforts and it comes as a shock.
As for the picture, if you get it from a web site, the best idea it to use the following template with your pic: {{fauirusein|Name of Article you got the image from}} . . . be sure to list the URL and the name of the website/article . . . album covers or covers of books, VCR/DVD products are fair use as well. Otherwise you need to be careful, since it's likely copyrighted. (Don't fret over this -- I still make similar mistakes).
And thanks for the Holi wishes! (Arundhati Bakshi (talk • contribs)) 17:04, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi - I noticed you've got "the fifth best British album of all time" in your CD collection - perhaps you'd like to contribute to the peer review I have requested for the Arctic Monkeys article. I've put a fair bit of elbow grease into the article over the last couple of days and there are a few more bits and pieces to be done, but I think it's looking very good.
I should also say nice idea with the CD collection. I might do that myself if I get time... though it might take a very long time with 140 CDs!!!

[edit]Don't worry, I don't use the net during weekends! It's logical you haven't heard any other song from UTIS (very few in fact have). Now the album is out you just can go and buy it:) Some guys from Mixup music store in Mexico didn't know the album was going to be released today and they released it last Friday so I may be one of the first persons in the American continent to hear it! It's great!!!:P Fluence 22:33, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey!
[edit]Hii..
Finally, its confirmed. Arundhati's back! Take a look at her talk page. I dont think she still hasn't started editing yet but shes replying to the msgs on her talk page. By the way, I saw your cd collection on your user page and it looks pretty impressive. I almost have all the music from your cd collection but in the form of mp3's , which, I should confess, downloaded off of the net :-). Thats because the CD's are way too expensive where I live. I am looking to buy some CD's during my time in Kuwait. Do you have any suggestions? And theres another piece of news, which maybe not of much importance, but, I got my first very electric guitar!! Its an Ibanez RG 370 DX (there are pics of it all over the net)! woo hoo!!! *breathes deeply* Ok then, take care and Happy editing! Jayant,17 Years, India • contribs 21:13, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the congratulations! I already downloaded the Arctic Monkeys album off of the net. Right now I an downloading the debut album of Angels and Airwaves. What do you think of them? And have you heard the latest album of Red Hot Chili Peppers? I downloaded it and I think its great! Anyways, See ya around! Happy Editing! Jayant,17 Years, India • contribs 17:56, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, stadium arcadium. A cd usually costs about 400 Rs. over here. And since the Arcadium is a double album it might cost upto 500Rs. Which is quite a lot! So, I usually end up downloading the songs. (I've never bought a cd till now. ;-) Have you heard of a band called The Bravery? There are very good. Try listening to them if you can. See ya around! Jayant,17 Years, India • contribs 19:08, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- EDIT:- I just found out from my friend in whos right now in India (I am in Kuwait) that the RHCP - Stadium Arcadium is 645 Rs. In US$ its about 13$.. I am glad i downloaded my copy! ;-). Jayant,17 Years, India • contribs 19:42, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- No, I haven't seen any of the world cup matches because I aint getting them on the tv over here. I have a satellite receiver but the particular channel that gives the matches isn't coming. :-( .Anyways, I heard about the Brazil vs. France match. I am glad I didnt watch though, I would've got a stroke or something due to the tension! :-). And sorry about the England exit. I just heard today that David Becham just resigned as captain of England. BTW, I just download the latest album by Muse which is very very good. Its more on the pop side than rock, but it makes for a good listen. See ya around! Jayant,17 Years, India • contribs 18:17, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
- I have Muse' Black Holes and Revelations. I was very surprised by their style. So, who do you think will win the World Cup? I personally like to see Germany or Portugal win it. They've really under achived for quite some time now. Jayant,17 Years, India • contribs 15:53, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi :)
[edit]Hello there!
I couldn't watched it because I was at school! I was wishing Germany to win too because Argentina unfairly eliminated Mexico (mostly because of Busacca bad refereeing):( Great thing they won :)
And good luck tomorrow vs Portugal!! (we lost to them too)
THE HISTORY WILL BE REPEATED!!! 40 YEARS LATER :)--Fluence 22:28, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, we'll have to wait
[edit]We'll both have to wait to South Africa 2010. I wasn't expecting so much Brazil to win. Look, in the history of World Cups an European (e.g. England '66, France '98) has always been won by an European team (England and France), and an American (e.g. Uruguay '30, Mexico '86) has always been won by an American (Uruguay and Argentina). My point is wherever the tournament is held, a country from that continent will win (except for Korea-Japan '02, because they are weak teams). Now you're right, our only hope is Germany:) --Fluence 22:43, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
Any other team to support?
[edit]No!!! Seems Germany is out :( I can't believe it. I was sure Germany was going to the final. Now all chances have gone I'll support the French. My mom's cars are Renaults.
Keane to featured article and an award for you
[edit]Hi Victoria. Seems I lost too with Italy. Hope England or Mexico to win in 2010!!
Since I entered to the Wiki, i focused on updating and supporting Keane articles. You've seen I started all Keane singles (except IIAW?) and some other things. I also want to congratulate you for Tom's and Tim's articles. They are good articles thanks to your contributions!
Anyway, my point is that Keane is a little denigrated in some places and sometimes even discriminated. I've been trying to complete the Somewhere Only We Know article to make it a featured article, with its little bronze star, but somehow it's still short for some other featured.
