- Looks like an edit conflict that didn't trigger a conflict. Regardless, we both said the same thing, I was just a bit more verbose and you warned the user. --Tristessa (talk) 05:18, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
98.149.130.105 Block
[edit]24 hours is long enough if you look at this IP's block history. HkCaGu (talk) 06:29, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
- Hi HkCaGu: Thanks for your message. I did block for 24 hours (as noted on the user talk page), so did you mean it's too short because of the prior history? I felt it was worth not blocking for any longer than this unless a repeat occurs after this current 24 hour block, as it may possibly be a shared IP address. --Tristessa (talk) 06:41, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry my mistake, I meant not long enough. HkCaGu (talk) 07:29, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure this IP, as far as Wikipedia editing is concern, has been used by the same person since the first edit on March 30, 2011. It has no real contribution and is pretty much vandalism-only. The only subject of editing has been Southern Californian and Mexican radio and TV stations. It was blocked for 2 days, then 3 days after expiration, for three days, then 1 day after expiration, for 1 month, then 1 day after expiration, for 3 months--that expired on September 6. Immediately it began slow rounds of vandalism on the same articles and managed to escape attention until today. This person has no intent on appealing anything either--the only talk page editing was to blank contents to trick people of his history. This is why I believe a long term block is necessary. MangoWong continues to make accusations but refuses to take it to ANI
[edit]Greetings, I tried to speak my piece and leave MW an olive branch on his Talk. I and a bunch of other folks who edit Indian caste articles, including folks who've clashed in the past, are sorting things out over at Wikipedia_talk:Noticeboard_for_India-related_topics#Varna_status_in_the_lead_of_articles and coming to some agreement. MangoWong, however, continues to loudly insist that Sitush and I are actually ruining caste articles, and when told to take it to ANI he and another disaffected editor insist that ANI is "biased" and they both refuse to go to it (diffs).
If he's going to continue making huge accusations about Sitush and I adding "lies", "defamatory content", etc. but refuses to take it to ANI, what are we supposed to do about it? Evidently Sitush and I are doing something so terribly ungodly and wrong that he's compelled to show up on a large number of caste pages, revert our work, wikilawyer every tiniest point in our edits, while completely failing to help out in any cleanup of blatantly incorrect/POV/uncited text that we few are trying to fix. So basically he's complaining that a crime is being committed, but refuses to go to the police, so he's just going to keep hanging out on the corner and loudly proclaiming that we're criminals? This is simply not a sustainable course of action. I debated putting this on his page, partially because I don't want to fell like I'm narc'ing on someone, but he's already told Sitush not to post on his page, and yells at Q. accusing him of being a "blot" on adminship whenever Q tries to mediate issues on MW's Talk.
Your call as an outsider, but I submit that he either needs to stop insisting that absolute travesties are being committed, or else find, somewhere amongst the DR options, some place where he can actually feel he's getting a fair hearing in "exposing" us. Though part of me suspects that no matter how many uninvolved people tell him he's reading the wrong things into the situation, he'll insist that they're biased Westerners, demand "an Indian admin", when confronted with any of the WP:INDIA Indian editors who disagree with him will claim they're biased in some other way, and will darkly comment upon "someday, when we get enough real Indian editors we'll be able to fix all this biased material..." MatthewVanitas (talk) 05:43, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- I feel this is somewhat like the proverbial situation where a drunk, driving the wrong way down the highway and smashing into other cars continually, hears on the radio that there's a drunk driving the wrong way down the highway causing havoc. He looks out of his windscreen, seeing the cars driving towards him, and mutters to himself, "There's hundreds of them!"
- I am absolutely certain that MW is well-meaning and trying to do what he believes to be editorially necessary, and I am also certain that he genuinely believes the WP:INDIA articles have a systemic bias. I believe also he feels, by extension, that since the content (in his eyes) is biased, the editors must be biased also. I tried, as you read, to discuss the issues with him, but his reply was not particularly useful and I really don't think I made any progress whatsoever towards him getting the point. But we must also reflect on the fact that he has resolutely failed to engage in meaningful dialogue with other Wikipedians (including me), that his eccentric interpretation of Wikipedia's policies is largely self-exculpatory and used as a justification for his own efforts, and that the problem is localised to his editing only. Therefore, a cost-benefit analysis is necessary and I believe that a topic ban from the WP:INDIA articles would be appropriate; he has regretfully become a "tendentious editor", irrespective of his ethics and motives.
- I suggest that a topic ban is drafted and posted to AN/I for a community vote (this should be noted on the WP:INDIA noticeboard). He is disrupting article progress on a wide diaspora of articles with little net content of his being kept, and is not being productive in this topic area. After he's been forced to edit in other subjects for a while I wonder if he might get the picture a little more, and the ban can of course be reviewed then. --Tristessa (talk) 16:33, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
MedCab closure
[edit]Tristessa,
Do you have any objection to me clerkishly closing Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/14 September 2011/Jeff Frederick? It's been more than a week since the requesting editor's block expired, so there's every appearance that they're not coming back. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 00:32, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Survey
[edit]Hi Tristessa!
I have put together a survey for female editors of Wikipedia (and related projects) in order to explore, in greater detail, women's experiences and roles within the Wikimedia movement. It'd be wonderful if you could participate!
It's an independent survey, done by me, as a fellow volunteer Wikimedian. It is not being done on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation. I hope you'll participate!
Just click this link to participate in this survey, via Google!
Any questions or concerns, feel free to email me or stop by my user talk page. Also, feel free to share this any other female Wikimedians you may know. It is in English, but any language Wikimedia participants are encouraged to participate. I appreciate your contributions - to the survey and to Wikipedia! Thank you! Palazzolo
[edit]Hi Tristessa - don't mean to badger you but what news of your mediation on Palazzolo? --Fircks (talk) 08:23, 2 October 2011 (UTC) Hi Tristessa - further to my last message I have discovered that Palazzolo's BLP has been transcribed by someone to Facebook as his page. Which is an appropriation of his rights as a free man. The sooner we can resolve the issue of his BLP, the better. When can you do this? Thanks--Fircks (talk) 09:37, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Hi Tristessa - just a gentle prod regarding Palazzolo. I say this because the mills keep turning, against him. There was an article in a major paper linking him recently to what they described as a serious Mafiosi, who was in fact found innocent in court and died, anyway, in 2006. What I'm saying is that your timely intervention and help is important. --Fircks (talk) 04:58, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
Hi Tristessa - it's an auspicious day, 11/11/11, and here's hoping you might continue the mediation of Palazzolo's case. I don't know how else to get something to happen on this case, except to keep reminding you. With thanks, as ever - --Fircks (talk) 05:19, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

- Oh sure, it's on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/NicholasTurnbull, my old username (way back in 2005). --Tristessa (talk) 20:42, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- By the way: I understand your point re current article contributions, and I've been more active in WP:DR than I have in mainspace for a long time. But this would surely be a policy suggestion that would need to be proposed; there's no policy that currently stands which prohibits admins from performing admin tasks if they have under a certain number of mainspace edits, and I feel the judgement I've made in this situation appears to be satisfactory. If there is a good reason why the block should be lifted, particularly whether there's proof to show he'll listen in future, then I'll lift the block. I'm not seeing any right now, though. --Tristessa (talk) 20:46, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

LGBT rights in the Commonwealth
[edit]Hi - things have been moving on recently around this issue and media coverage has increased, reflecting recent political developments. Now that the Commonwealth Secretary General has made a historic inclusion around LGBT rights in a speech he gave yesterday (plus the interventions of the PMs of Britaina and Australia), do you perhaps feel more reassured that the article has some substanse now and is neither OR or synthesis? In which case perhaps we would agree to take it off the list of articles for review? Contaldo80 (talk) 08:57, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Status of Vito Roberto Palazzolo
[edit]Tristessa, Wikipedia talk:Requests for mediation/Vito Roberto Palazzolo has became stale. I don't mean to be obnoxious, but this is the second recent case you have taken then allowed to go stale. I'm not sure if there are extenuating real-life circumstances that have prevented you from being active, or if there is a reason why you are unable to progress the mediation past its current stage, but we cannot have our cases languishing in the way that this one is. Please could you indicate what the status of the case is, and whether you are going to push the case on soon? Also, in future, please do not assign yourself to a case if you are unable to follow your commitment through; mediation is not especially time-consuming, and I think we would all prefer that a case be assigned to somebody who can remain active. If you would prefer to discuss this privately, my e-mail is open. If I don't hear from you within the next couple of days, I'll embrace BOLD and assign the case to another mediator. Thank you, AGK [•] 14:20, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Oldcsd-user
[edit]A tag has been placed on Template:Oldcsd-user requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it must be substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{substituted}}</noinclude>).
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Bulwersator (talk) 08:14, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Request for Comments on Wikipedia:Representation
[edit]Hi there! My name is Whenaxis, I noticed that you are on the Mediation Committee. I created a policy proposal called Wikipedia:Representation. I think that this policy would help the Mediation Committee as well as the Arbitration Committee because the goal of this proposed policy is to decrease the amount of time wasted when an unfamiliar editor files a Mediation or Arbitration Committee when other forms of Dispute Resolution have not yet been sought. For example, an editor may come to the Mediation Committee requesting formal mediation when other dispute resolution areas have not been utilised such as third opinions or request for comments. A representative works much like a legal aid - there to help you for free and:
- File a formal mediation case or an arbitration case on your behalf
- Make statements and submit evidence at the case page on your behalf
- Guide you through the expansive and sometimes complex policies and procedures of Wikipedia
This proposed idea can also help the editor seeking help because it can alleviate the stress and anxiety from dispute resolution because mediation and arbitration can be intimidating for those who are unfamiliar.
I would highly appreciate your comments on this proposal at: Wikipedia talk:Representation. Cheers and Happy New Year - Whenaxis about talk contribs 22:37, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Ole Nydahl article
[edit]Please take a look at the Ole Nydahl article. For many years now, followers have supressed or diminished the criticism section. The matter has been discussed at length and the issue of including the relevant critisim, such as him sleeping with his own students, admitting it to a newspaper, and another large newspaper featuring it, is something which Nydahl's followers continuously supress regardless of the arguments. Even though the proponents of including this critique win, the proponents then leave and then the followers creep back. It is always the same followers over the years. The net result is that even when the properly sourced criticism is added, it is reduced again after some time. Time and again, people ask the followers to use the Talk page, but they only do so when pressed. I do not know much about Wikipedia editing but you can contact me at coreheim |at| gmail.com if need be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.150.118.208 (talk) 12:58, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates or other materials from Wikipedia, as you did at User talk:Xanderliptak, you may be blocked from editing. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:03, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi there Zebedee: Please can you tell me why you left me a disruptive editing warning? The user's banned from editing their talk page; I'm just an uninvolved admin in the AN/I thread who checked initially to see if he was talk-banned; found he was, and figured you'd just forgotten to blank the talk page (there's no point in leaving his comments/refused unblock requests lying around). Have I missed something? Cheers, --Tristessa (talk) 17:08, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi. Apologies - I hadn't realised who you were, and it just looked like he'd started socking to blank his Talk page, having been socking recently. I'd thought that blocked users should have their block and block review messages preserved, but I guess I'm mistaken - I'll go revert myself right away. Sorry again. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 17:14, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Just to thank you for having solved the case of the IP obsessed with numbers. Seems that another user has spotted that the same user has been making the same edits from other IP adresses, but lets hope he gets the message this time and stops messing articles. [edit]Actually, it would appear to me that HW was indeed reverting massive NFCC violations in that article. What makes you think that the trivial typos that he fixed at the same time were his real intention, thus making his edits to be only "under the colour of WP:NFCC"? Repair of WP:NFCC violations have always been exempt from WP:3RR.—Kww(talk) 18:47, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
The images are indubitably violations of WP:NFCC#8, so the "unquestionable" exemption applies. Sharkentile doesn't have a leg to stand on. If I had come upon this problem, I would have indefed Sharkentile until he agreed to comply with WP:NFCC.—Kww(talk) 18:57, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
An indefinite block isn't an infinite one. Most of mine only last a few minutes, until the editor agrees to comply with policy. In this case, you'be blocked HW for complying with policy, implicitly rewarding Sharkentile for violating it. The dispute between HW and Sharkentile seems focused on the NFCC question, and HW is well within his rights to revert indefinitely and without limit. The question isn't "is there some way that the article could be modified to become NFCC compliant?", the question is "in it's current form, is the usage NFCC compliant?". The uses don't currently comply, and have to be removed until a compliant form can be found. They don't get retained awaiting compliance.—Kww(talk) 20:02, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
Dispute resolution survey
[edit]
Dispute Resolution – Survey Invite Hello Tristessa de St Ange. I am currently conducting a study on the dispute resolution processes on the English Wikipedia, in the hope that the results will help improve these processes in the future. Whether you have used dispute resolution a little or a lot, now we need to know about your experience. The survey takes around five minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist in analyzing the results of the survey. No personally identifiable information will be released. Please click HERE to participate. You are receiving this invitation because you have had some activity in dispute resolution over the past year. For more information, please see the associated research page. [edit]I don't see all criticism against me as an attack. Dingley seems to be going on tirades towards my behavior, as he AFDed EVERY SINGLE REDIRECT I made in the past couple weeks, and filed both the RFC/U and ANI thread on me. I know I'm going to be opposed since I often am more blunt than other editors, but Dingley's behavior seems borderline tendentious. Also as I've said, I often find myself talking to a wall whenever I try to initiate discussion — either no one discusses anything, or I just enter an infinite loop that devolves into a duck season/rabbit season exchange. That said, I have reined in the redirection for now anyway — not out of fear of Dingley insta-reverting, but because I tend to do certain types of edits in cycles. How else do you propose I go about the whole discussion thing, which never seems to work for me? Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 21:56, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
- as he AFDed EVERY SINGLE REDIRECT
- Please withdraw that, as it is quite incorrect. In the 50+ Viz character articles you blanked and redirected, I AfDed some of those that I considered notable enough to be kept. Unlike your actions in bulk-blanking the whole list because you consider all "Viz characters" to be inherently non-notable, I considered each article on its merits. Dispute Resolution – Volunteer Survey Invite Hello Tristessa de St Ange. To follow up on the first survey in April, I am conducting a second survey to learn more about dispute resolution volunteers - their motivations for resolving disputes, the experiences they've had, and their ideas for the future. I would appreciate your thoughts. I hope that with the results of this survey, we will learn how to increase the amount of active, engaged volunteers, and further improve dispute resolution processes. The survey takes around five to ten minutes, and the information you provide will not be shared with third parties other than to assist in analyzing the results of the survey. No personally identifiable information will be released. Please click HERE to participate. Please comment on an RfC about Living members of deposed royal families and the titles attributed to them on WP
[edit]Hello - I have opened an RfC about suggested guidelines in the Manual of Style for articles about living members of families whose ancestors were deposed as monarchs of various countries and the titles and "styles" attributed to these living people, at the moment often in a misleading and inaccurate way in my opinion. Please join in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Biographies "Use of royal "Titles and styles" and honorific prefixes in articles and templates referring to pretenders to abolished royal titles and their families"[2]Regards,Smeat75 (talk) 05:22, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
