my reply and follow up

Hi, Thanks for your message.. But I am still unsure of how to licence this content.. Can you please give me a step by step guide on how to do this... (i.e. is it just a case of linking to the GFDL license page?)

Thanks in advance for your help, MichaelEHowe (talk) 22:51, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thanks for your reply... I have now had that statement placed at the bottom of moragsiller.com. Please let me know if i need to do anything else to get this wiki article live again.

Substituting

Oops. Sorry. :D I always forget which I should and which I shouldn't. :/ I almost left you a {{copyvio}}, anyway. :) It kind of flows naturally from the fingertips!

By the way, if you haven't, you might want to duplicate your note on that article at the contributor's talk page. Once the article is gone, the talk page will probably go with it. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:49, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lol, I always enjoy the big red shouting when I forget to substitute some templates... the {{copyvio}} is a pretty scary one at the best of times! Ah yes, that's a very good point; it does sometimes slip my mind that article talk pages, and the often lengthy explanations upon them, are deleted along with the articles themselves... I've left him a message. :) – Toon(talk) 01:00, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

N'Zogbia/Insonmia

Hey, I think I forgot to mention it's the atual video. Here it is. Best --DFS454 (talk) 18:33, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well in that case, as the video has probably been (illegally?) copied from the broadcaster, we can't include the video or link to it, as that could be against the law. it would be quite informative, however. – Toon(talk) 19:05, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Does that mean most Youtube videos are also bound to this same rationale? --DFS454 (talk) 19:13, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It does indeed, unfortunately. See WP:YOUTUBE. – Toon(talk) 01:44, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(unindent)I'm interested in improving this article, would you know how to get a wikiproject leader to compile a to-do list for the article? --DFS454 (talk) 17:57, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It wouldn't have to be a Wikiproject leader, any experienced editor could compile a list of improvements. I've done a couple of Football GAs, and I don't mind making a few observations tomorrow; due to N'Zogbia's age and how (comparitively) little has happened in his career, a Good Article is the best the article can get to at the moment, in my honest opinion. Take a look at the Good Article criteria - the article is actually in pretty good state at the moment. I think the main issue would be references; try to get as much as you can referenced, and make sure the language is neutral and no assumptions as to motives or opinions of parties are made; for example: he impressed the club and they were keen to sign him. Is there a source somewhere which says that the club were especially keen? This could constitute original research. The next sentence also needs a source. I'll have a comprehensive look tomorrow and come up wiht a sort of review - if you want some feedback, you could try asking at the Wikiproject Football talk page, or even listing the article for a Peer Review - although it's usually only longer articles and those on the way to Featured Article status which get a lot of feedback. I upgraded the article to C-class on the talk page, as it's not far off B-class IMO. – Toon(talk) 19:13, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I had been meaning to put an edit summary in but i pressed move too early. I thought it was too similar to one of the others so it was to help distinguish it more. I am going to move this comment to the talk page. Simply south not SS, sorry 16:30, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Toon05! If you have time and if you're interested, could you take a look at the above article? It has made lots of progress since an earlier version of it was deleted and since you last looked at it. Your advice would be welcome on how to improve it further, and maybe on how to rename it, because the current title appears a little bulky. Cheers, Madalibi (talk) 10:50, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fine Art Guild

Hi Toon05! You've put a copy violation the page I wrote for the Fine Art Trade guild.

Teapot picked up a possibilty for copyright violation before. So I completely re-wrote the text with new headings etc, Teapot thought it was a much bettr re: copyright infringement. This version was substantailly different from my previous attempt to write something original about this guild.

I feel your judgement to be harsh, please re-consider the placing of this copyright violation tag on FineaArt Trade Guild. Advice on how to write this information without straying from facts would also be of help. Thanks--Tunebroker (talk) 18:56, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fine Art Trade Guild

Thanks for your thoughts. I definitly need help with this. Please help me create a version of this page which says the same things in a different way. --Tunebroker (talk) 22:48, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Saw your note on the talk page and think a GA improvement drive would be a great idea. I've just written the article's lead, though perhaps a couple of the more minor points could be trimmed, and rewritten the early life section (it was generally a mix of copy-vio and false information anyway). If you do start work on it I'll be happy to help you with any copy-editing/referencing/peer reviewing that you need. However, personally I would advise against an FA push at the moment as his career is bound to end within the next few years and the article could be better structured (and sourced if any new bios emerge) once his playing career is done. Cheers. Sillyfolkboy (talk) 01:25, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you completely there. I wrote that note a while ago now; I can't seem to find the time to commit to diving headlong into the life and times of Michael Owen. If you have that time, I'd be delighted to see the article make it to GA without my input; my toes were never really there to be stepped on. :) – Toon(talk) 01:30, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I similarly find myself pushed for time. When I write an article I heavily research it, which takes up much of my time. In fact I seem to spend as much time reverting vandalism from my watched pages as I do actually adding new improvements. It gives me food for thought over ideas about flagged revisions and "registered editors only", even though I would like to remain committed to an open encyclopaedia. Hopefully I'll find more time...
Oh, and good work on Shearer and the Shay man. You guys are fools for letting him go to City. It's the knackers-yard for you lot now! Sillyfolkboy (talk) 02:11, 11 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers — and don't I know it... he's been the league's best gk for years, the worst decision (in a period of making many, many bad decisions) the club has made since sacking Sir Bobby. – Toon(talk) 23:36, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

The correct title for this person is Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill not Lady Henrietta Gelber. The items in the Categories section at the bottom of the page all refer to Lady Henrietta Spencer-Churchill not Gelber.

Assessing interest

Hi. I'm attempting to put together a project for addressing copyright issues. The primary purpose is to create a place where people who address copyright concerns can easily collaborate, particularly when encountering more difficult or complex tasks. You can see my beginning project page here. I'm trying to assess whether this is likely to fly, and you were one of the first people I thought of. :) I would be very grateful for any feedback you could give me, including whether or not this is a Project that you think would be of use/interest to you. Please don't worry about hurting my feelings if the answer is no. (You can worry about hurting my feelings if the answer is, "F&#$, no!" ;)) I'd really rather not invest a lot more time in it if it's not likely to get participants. That said, if the answer is "No, because...." and the "because" is something I can fix (such as the project page is just way overly detailed), I certainly would want to know. I think it would be a great use to me if I could get it off the ground so that I could stop running around like crazy whenever I have a question or need assistance with a problem. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:17, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Just wanted to let you know that I got the requisite 5 at the Project Proposal page, so I've moved it into project space. If you're still interested, please consider joining the small roster of members (currently = me). --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:33, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks, I'm in the middle of answering Jennavecia's question at the moment, it's turned into a biggy so apologies if this is a little brief. I think a version of the picture which was cropped to remove the other person would actually be pretty good near the part of the article which mentions his charity bike ride. – Toon(talk) 20:05, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hi toon. regarding A Shearers situation with the eufa pro .. Your thoughts were right on this. I changed it to a Copyvio CSD tag. ttonyb1 (talk) 15:25, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I usually tag them as {{copyvio}} if the author of the article asserts ownership of the content as they did on the talk page — this gives them a week to email permission or to note GFDL release on their website. The tone of the content is probably not appropriate anyway. – Toon(talk) 15:28, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You flagged my PyQuante page with a copyright violations. It was flagged early this morning, and then I removed the flag and put a note in the discussion page that I owned the copyright to the material. Clearly, this was not sufficient, since you reflagged the page. What do I have to do to remove the violation?

I also added a note on the main PyQuante web site that use of the material is permitted under the GFDL.

Rpmuller (talk) 01:26, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This one could be a bear to work out. :/ It is a 1926 translation of a third-century Greek document. The original, obviously, is pd by age. The translation may be, depending on whether or not copyright was renewed. It was first published by Journal of Chemical Education. Wikisource:Help:Public domain sets out how stupidly complicated all this is. And I wonder now if I should link that somewhere at the copyright problems clean up board, or if that would send members screaming for the hills. :) I think I'll ask feedback from a Wikisource admin! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:52, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, there's a lot to get used to! I can see where you're coming from with the article, but I wouldn't speedy it as blatant advertising. Although you marked my report as "forum-shopping" since the thread on WP:AN had been marked as "resolved" [2], Twiddlebug (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)'s most recent offending edit [3] was made after the thread on WP:AN was so marked [4]. The low esteem in which you seem to hold the biographies of living persons policy, and your apparent willingness to play fast and loose with the facts in order to indulge and ascribe unlimited amounts of good faith to users whose sole purpose on Wikipedia has been to defame living people, is despicable. Erik9 (talk) 13:28, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can understand your frustration, but WP:AIV is for vandalism only; you had already opened a thread at WP:AN, which was the appropriate venue (possibly WP:AN/I) given that this was a complex matter. I admit that I didn't assume good faith on your part, and I apologise for that; it seemed that you had come to AIV having not received the outcome you were looking for at AN - certainly requesting that more admins engage in discussion at the correct venue would have been a more appropriate response. It's almost impossible for an admin to make an informed discussion on soley the evidence you gave in your AIV report. This is what the noticeboards such as WP:BLP/N are for - if there is a BLP issue, take it to the place it belongs. This was a dispute, not vandalism. – Toon(talk) 13:42, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, your numbers are good - I've added them all up from NUFC.co.uk and compared them to soccerbase and BBC stats. The goals in the infobox were wrongly counting some of his cup goals, due to the famous Jackie Milburn-beating 206 - league goals is 283 total. Thanks for letting me know, the stats seem to get messed around with quite frequently by IPs. – Toon(talk) 15:05, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Article Frank Fiore

Hi. It says in the logs that you deleted the article for Frank Fiore. I created the article a long time ago and did not receive a notification about an AfD. I learned that it was deleted, because I got a notification about the image for that article that is now flagged for deletion (fair use image), because it became orphaned. File:Fiore frank c.jpg. The article was also never challenged before, at least as far as I know, so I am a bit surprised that it was deleted after such a long time, because somebody who does not know or not like the author puts a PROD template into the article without telling anybody and that's it. If I missed something here, please let me know. I am sure that you acted in good faith and that we will sort this thing out. Thanks. --roy<sac> Talk! .oOo. 17:39, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Review: Financial Executives International

Toon05, (I sent the same message just now to Ironholds, who recommended deletion for CDS insufficient significance, now I don't know if the additional info I added to the article has caused it to appear to be advertising to you, so I'd appreciate advice from you and Ironhold so I can strike the right balance to not be insubstantive and not appear like advertising! here is what I sent Ironholds which I'd like to get your feedback on as well based on your decision to delete.

Ironholds, I am new user to Wikipedia, I noticed you marked the Financial Executives International wikipedia page I drafted for speedy review under CSD 7; after you marked it for speedy review I added some more content as to the significance of the organization's work and added more external links and a number of references from news articles, I also posted some questions in the discussion section, including, for example, that this is a professional association similar to a number of other "professional accountancy organizations" and "professional associations" (in categories by those names). Is it possible to temporarily restore the page and review it or for you to suggest what is still missing or what makes similar professional accountancy organizations writeups' significance seem more obvious and I can try to provide that information if it is not clear from how I wrote up this one. Thank you. Regards Eorenstein (talk) 00:20, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eorenstein, I deleted the article because it existed soley to promote a company. The article was written in such a way that it discussed content in a "what the company can do for you" kind of way, rather than providing information in an encyclopedic manner - or example sentences such as: "In addition to providing the above opportunities for its members, FEI also provides opportunities for networking and education to the general public...", "Other news about the finance and accountancy profession can be found in FEI's magazine, Financial Executive; a digital edition is available on FEI's website," and "Financial executives looking for career assistance may be interested in FEI's Career Center. In furtherance of encouraging strong corporate governance..." Are you are working for or on behalf of the company? You should check out the conflict of interest guidelines - those with close links to a subject should avoid editing articles about them. Best, – Toon(talk) 12:24, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Toon, Thank you for the info, I do work for the association, is there a particular way I should flag that in the edit page or something, and I can rewrite in encyclopedic style, I included in my original submission in April a list of third party well major news sources that wrote about a contribution to the accountancy profession in terms of research published by FEI, etc., so I am using a variety of 3rd party sources for notability/reliability etc. What is the next step I should do to proceed in reposting? Thank you for your help. Regards, Eorenstein (talk) 21:28, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A good start is to declare any conflict of interest on your user page, so that it can't be suggested that you are hiding anything. I still strongly recommend that you don't write about a company you work for (a pet peeve of mine, I must admit), but you need to find sources which actually cover the company in-depth; mentions here and there can be used to back up facts, but not to demonstrate notability. As I'm not convinced that the article could meet our guidelines and my concerns about conflict of interest, I'm not willing to restore the article. However, you can request a review from uninvolved editors and admins at Wikipedia:Deletion review. If they decide that my decision was incorrect, then the deletion will be overturned. I hope this helps, – Toon(talk) 22:28, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Eorenstein, what Toon is saying is: Because of our conflict of interest guidelines, you cannot make any major contributions and/or edits to that particular article (you can edit absolutely everything else just as long as you're not directly related to it). The best route for you would be to visit articles for creation. There you can submit the article for consideration for another, unbiased, user to peruse over and detect its notability. I hope this clears up any missing details. Thanks and regards, ScarianCall me Pat! 22:31, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent advice, probably the ideal route, cheers Pat. – Toon(talk) 22:37, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Haha. Thanks. Its archived now. If you have some time, we could use more blocking admins. If you need any help, with anything, just drop by my talk. :) Synergy 23:01, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm always happy to help if you've cases in need of admin attention - I'll probably need some walking through the etiquette mind you, as I was quite bamboozled by it all, frankly! Thanks for the help with this case, I appreciate it. – Toon(talk) 23:08, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
When you have free time, just go to this section. You can read over the cases and give an opinion on each if you'd like. Some will have a CU result like with your case, and some will not. Whats most important is that if you've blocked users, leave a message on the case saying you've done so. If its a relatively small case where user x is user y, and you've blocked both (or larger ones with nothing else left to do), you can add {{SPIclose}} to the page and a clerk or CU (most often its just the clerks) will come by and archive it. Most non cu cases are closed per either non action (an admin reviewed and sees no reason to block) or blocks based on the duck clause. I can also generate easy reports to compare the users, showing diffs. You're welcome for the help, and I also appreciate the assistance. Best. Synergy 23:24, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of KForge page

Hi, I see you deleted the KForge page with log:

"deleted "KForge" ‎ (G12: Blatant copyright infringement: http://www.kforgeproject.com/about CC-BY not compatible with GFDL.)"

However, looking on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyright_FAQ#Can_I_add_something_to_Wikipedia_that_I_got_from_somewhere_else.3F I read the following:

"Only GFDL, CC-BY (or any other text which allows use for any purpose with only attribution), or public domain text can be freely copied onto Wikipedia."

I am therefore a bit confused as the log says CC-By not compatible with GFDL while this section of FAQ clearly indicates it is. Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi, thanks for your message. It does appear that there is a contradiction here, but in correspondance, the Wikimedia Foundation's legal counsel has indicated his belief that the two licenses aren't actually compatible. Copyrights are confusing, especially in licenses which haven't been legally tested and when addressed by thousands of volunteers! Sorry about the confusion, I've started a discussion to have the FAQs changed to reflect the concerns. Best, – Toon(talk) 19:15, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hangon

So you assume that the hangon tag is not valid for longer than approximately 7 minutes, barely enough time to add references and citations and bring the article just "up to scratch"? Or do you just have a 'deleted post count' to maintain? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Meniro (talkcontribs) 21:14, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your last edit summary was: Notability issues addressed in relation to ShopWatch and Moissanite - references also added to article in regards - this indicates that you have addressed the concerns to the best of your abilities. In my opinion, even after this, the article meets the criteron for speedy deletion. You are free to appeal at deletion review if you feel my decision was incorrect. – Toon(talk) 21:19, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History of Everton F.C.

Hi. Blocked User:Waterspaces is now having a go at History of Everton F.C., though under various IP adresses (starting 79....). Following your work to protect Everton F.C. I think it'd be helpful if you could do something similar to this article. Cheers! Dancarney (talk) 10:30, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. History of Liverpool F.C. has the same problem too. Dancarney (talk) 10:33, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see Rodhullandemu has now blocked both of the IP addresses currently being used - it looks like he has used one continuously (which is blocked for a month) and has taken up another recently (blocked for 31 hours). Hopefully its a case of work/home IPs, not a dynamic one. As long as he keeps to those IPs, I think we can manage the situation with blocks, rather than semi-protection, so that no well-meaning anons are caught. I've watchlisted the two articles; if you see that he's come back under yet another IP, it might be worth reconsidering semi protection. Hopefully this'll sort it out, though. Best, – Toon(talk) 13:12, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User:Mynameisthemasterofallofthefives

What did he do to deserve a block? It says abusing multiple accounts but I do not see any vandalism in his contrubutions. It looked like he was just trying to help and has givin up vandalism. --Abce2 (talk) 20:37, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I blocked the account because checkuser evidence (here) showed that this was but the latest incarnation of Pickbothmanlol (talk · contribs), who is blocked indefinitely for abusively using sockpuppets. Long-term vandals often create many accounts over long periods of time (called sleepers), and make legitimate edits with them, in order to reach autoconfirmed status, which allows them to edit semi-protected pages, among other things. When one of their accounts gets blocked, they can move to another (block evasion), or simply use both accounts to manipulate consensus and other disruption. I hope this answers your question. Best, – Toon(talk) 21:34, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Protection of Talk:Pokémon

Hi, I noticed you recently protected the talk page of the Pokémon article, citing excessive vandalism as the reason. However, I disagree with your action, because vandalism can be easily reverted, and protecting the talk page of a article disallows anonymous and new users from participating in constructive discussion. Also, WP:SEMI states that both an article and its respective talk page should not be protected at the same time. I would like to ask you to please reverse your protection of the talk page. Thanks, Artichoker[talk] 01:56, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it was a common sense protect; there have been few constructive additions to that talk page in a while. ScarianCall me Pat! 03:08, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As Scarian states, there had been few useful conribs to the page from anons for a long time. It'll be automatically unprotected in under two days time now. Best, – Toon(talk) 07:35, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree; the page was fallow from April 18 until April 23, whereupon one IP repeatedly vandalized it (and has since stopped) and another, the following day, vandalized it but once. The third instance was a registered account, whose only edit thus far was to vandalize the talk page. I do not think, given the current history on the talk page, that a semi of more than 12 hours' length was reasonable, especially since the page had been fallow for one hour before you protted. -Jeremy (v^_^v Cardmaker) 09:29, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that'll depend on what the checkuser comes up with... if those IPs are only used on WP by this guy, then it'll probably be a week, increasing to a month etc. depending on if they come back after that. If there are other IP users from that range who edit, then the most we can really hope for is a week at a time, if that. I am being presumptuous here, as I've not much experience with rangeblocks. Hopefully, if all his edits are constantly getting reverted and his IPs blocked then he'll just give up — but then I don't really have a clue what motivates these people! And no worries, the point of me having the tools is to help clean up stuff like this. – Toon(talk) 20:17, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback requested

There is a conversation about copyright concerns with a particular article at Talk:Stacey Castor where I would appreciate additional feedback. Specifically, the contributor questions the degree to which we can duplicate verbatim text from copyright sources. There are also concerns about close paraphrasing. Be warned: the talk page is long, but you don't have to read it all to get context. :) There are some quote boxes that might make good reading for comparison & contrasting purposes, but it would probably be quite possible to provide feedback just on reading Talk:Stacey Castor#Another break. That make sense? – Toon(talk) 15:50, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it does, and thanks, I did not know that already. Unless I've had to use it, I'll probably never learn it. :) I've added documentation and changed it a bit to bring it more in line with other attribution templates. I've also proposed removing its self-header. I don't see any other attribution template that has one of those. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 16:52, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is a little annoying, plus the title itself wouldn't be used as an ordinary header. It can be useful sometimes, perhaps make it an optional parameter, with a header=yes? I'm pretty clueless about coding such things; I had a play around with the archive box template in an attempt to get a background colour option and failed miserably. – Toon(talk) 16:59, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For now, I've just removed it. It's not transcluded in many articles, so I'm just running through them to clean up any messes it made. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:35, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That explains why you're popping up all over my watchlist! It's easy enough to type a header; there's no real reason to have it as an extra function. – Toon(talk) 13:24, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
