The article Article you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. - I have made some additional comments and have asked for a second opinion as I have done a lot of edits myself. Good luck, I hope this passes.--Ishtar456 (talk) 22:45, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
- The "on hold" notice probably wasn't the right one, but they did not have one for a second opinion. It is the first time I have asked for one, so I just found out what happens is that it appears on the nomination page as if it has not yet been reviewed, but who ever picks it up will go to the discussion that we have had. Take care, --Ishtar456 (talk) 22:57, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 March newsletter
We are over half way through the second round of this year's WikiCup and things are going well! Grapple X (submissions), of Pool B, is our highest overall scorer thanks to his prolific writings on television and film. In second place is Pool H's Cwmhiraeth (submissions), thanks primarily to work on biological articles, especially in marine biology and herpetology. Third place goes to Pool E's Casliber (submissions), who also writes primarily on biology (including ornithology and botany) and has already submitted two featured articles this round. Of the 63 contestants remaining, 15 (just under a quarter) have over 100 points this round. However, 25 are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly. 32 contestants, the top two from each pool and the 16 next-highest scorers, will advance to round 3.
Congratulations to Matthewedwards (submissions), whose impressive File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg became the competition's first featured picture. Also, congratulations to 12george1 (submissions), who claimed good topic points, our first contestant this year to do so, for his work on Wikipedia:Featured topics/1982 Atlantic hurricane season. This leaves featured topics and featured portals as the only sources of points not yet utilised. However, as recent statistics from Miyagawa (submissions) show, no source has yet been utilised this competition to the same extent it has been previously!
It has been observed that the backlogs at good article candidates are building up again. While the points for good article reviews will be remaining constant, any help that can be offered keeping the backlog down would be appreciated. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Invitation to the April Wikification Drive
Hi there! I thought you might be interested in WikiProject Wikify's April Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. We'll be trying to reduce the backlog size by over 1,300 articles and we need your help! Hard-working participants in the drive will receive awards for their contributions, including a brand new one for the single largest wikified article! All you have to do is put an asterisk next to the largest article you've wikified, and coordinators will check its wordcount after the drive ends. If you have a spare moment, please join and wikify an article or tell your friends. Thanks! Note: The drive started April 1, and you can sign up anytime! |

Disambiguation link notification for April 6
Hi. When you recently edited Fyodor Dostoyevsky, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Vladimir Solovyov (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Good evening GreatOrangePumkin,
Thank you very much for your amazingly fast response to my citing problem earlier this evening.
I would have replied earlier, but initially had mistakenly read your posting together with your (very attractive) signature as the first part of David's reply to me. He had not left a line break. It was only on going back to it just now that I realised my misunderstanding.

On adding Category:Russian monarchists to various biographies
GOP, if you're going to infer that certain individuals were "clearly monarchist[s]" [3], please be so kind as to provide a source. Since WP:BURDEN says that the burden of evidence is on whoever adds or restores material, the burden of providing actual sources would be yours. A source that is a paper copy of Wikipedia articles, for instance a source of this type found by Google-mining for "[name]" and "monarchist", like this [4], is not a satisfactory source. Your own opinions on the matter without published sources back them would fall into the category of original research. Zloyvolsheb (talk) 20:38, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Personally I don't see how that adds anything being a category anyway, so there's that too. It should probably be in a (sourced) list. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 21:39, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Again, if you have found a reliable source, good job. Now it's your job to add it into the text of the article. Then you re-add the category. Zloyvolsheb (talk) 21:45, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry but no, this is ridiculous. Common sense always trumps bureucracy. It is completely incorrect to remove a category just because you think that there should be a source in the article indicating that this is true. What you did is incorrect, since it was correct that they were monarchists. GoPTCN 21:51, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- All categories need to be sourced. WP:CAT Span (talk) 22:02, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Uhm, no. There are many articles which do not cite the categories, as if someone add content to an article, which supports the category, and it does not fit anywhere or it is off-topic, there is no need to cite a category. This is why we have search engines. Regards.--GoPTCN 09:37, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

P.S.: As the first step in dispute resolution, I have started a discussion on this at the NOR noticeboard: Wikipedia:No original research/Noticeboard#Addition of unsourced Category:Russian monarchists to biographies. Zloyvolsheb (talk) 22:25, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Good for you. Now get off of my talk page and do not annoy me with your silliness. Regards.--GoPTCN 09:37, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- The editor with whom you are having a dispute has taken a good step in WP:DR. You may wish to respond to him there, even if only to make it clear how wrong that other editor might be. Otherwise an admin is likely to see an edit-war and block both of you, or worse, an uncontested complaint about repeatedly inserting poorly cited controversial information and come down harder on you than him. - something in my prefs. isn't set up yet - I don't have the "cite" link available in my editing toolbar ... let me know what information you want there and I'll fix it. The first ref that's showing an error is because you have a named ref cited .. but there is no ref by that name in the list. 2eschew surplusage (talk) 11:30, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- GOP - I have to run out for a bit, but I will check back to make sure this gets fixed for you. Leave me the information you want put into the references: 31 and 37. You don't have to format them. Then the other ones (like #2) we'll get to after we get the red "ERROR" stuff fixed. I'll check, but we may need a bibliography section that explain those paper/journals/books etc. Either leave any info here and I'll check back .. or my talk. ttyl 2eschew surplusage (talk) 11:54, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia Stories Project
Hi!
My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.
I'd very much like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project.
Thank you for your time,
Victor Grigas

DYK for These Arms of Mine (Otis Redding song)
On 29 April 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article These Arms of Mine (Otis Redding song), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that "These Arms of Mine" was Otis Redding's first hit single? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |
