Pronunciation respelling key

[edit]

I reverted your edit to Worcestershire sauce. Please consult Help:Pronunciation respelling key for conventions. "uh" is used only for the STRUT vowel /ʌ/. "uhr" is not used as its own unit, though "urr" is used for the vowel–consonant sequence /ʌr/ as in hurry. The guide specifies "ə" for the COMMA vowel, and "ər" for the LETTER vowel. Some major accents of the English language, such as General American, often treat the STRUT /ʌ/ and COMMA /ə/ vowels as the same, and the NURSE /ɜːr/ and LETTER /ər/ vowels as the same, but other major accents, such as Received Pronunciation and Australian English, do not treat these pairs as the same. - Gilgamesh (talk) 09:00, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I have also noticed some improper respellings at Hebrides and vexillology, and I have fixed them in accordance with Help:Pronunciation respelling key. I invite you to check the page thoroughly before adding any new respellings, and if you have added any others, please fix them accordingly or let me know if you need any help. Thanks. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 15:09, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Toast for Teddy! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Duly noted. Could you please link me to the edit in question? Toast for Teddy (talk) 22:56, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox

[edit]

Hi There! I noticed your series of edits at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Interests and your plea for help. I did track your userbox down and have placed it on another page at Wikipedia:Userboxes/Television/Shows/Other_shows#Cartoons. Hope that is of assistance? - Ahunt (talk) 22:45, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Spy × Family's map

[edit]

Thank you for the map you added. I think it is really great. But I have one problem, although we know that the (manga) map is basically 99% West-East Germany, but there are some small details that are changed (like "Berlint" is not divided by some "Berlint Wall", the yellow spot on the real world's map) and some details are not confirmed in the manga (like lines on the real world's map). I want to ask you first, since you are the one who added the map, lest my edit offended you or disregard your work: is it ok if I replace your map with the manga and anime maps? - Theodorethebear (talk) 09:13, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The map I want to use is this one. I hope this is better to illustrate the plot. - Theodorethebear (talk) 13:57, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I only added it because I happened to find it on the Spy × Family Commons page and it seemed to fit. I've yet to actually watch the show, but if you think your image is a better fit, then by all means. - Toast for Teddy (talk) 18:30, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Images

[edit]

Except with very good reason, do not use px (e.g. |thumb|300px), which forces a fixed image width measured in pixels.In most cases upright=scaling_factor should be used, thereby respecting the user's base preference (which may have been selected for that user's particular devices)......see WP:IMAGESIZE

Images make Wikipedia more informative, accessible, and professional.

In general, when working with images:
DO:
Review the image style guide and use policy.
Give context with captions and alt text.
Try to find at least one image for each article.
Find free images, or create and upload your own.
Clean up images: crop, color-correct, etc.
Use the best file format for each image.
Use objects for scale where helpful.
Place images in the section to which they are related
DON'T:
Don't upload non-free images.
Don't use images in place of tables or charts.
Don't use images or galleries excessively.
Don't add images that are not relevant.
Don't flip faces, text, or works of art.
Don't set fixed image sizes.
Don't sandwich text between two images.
Don't refer to images by their placement.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Dragon, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chen Rong. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:01, 9 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pointless changes to white-space and capitalization

[edit]

Please do not make edits that consist of adding or removing white spaces that don't change the way the page looks to the reader, such as changing == Overview == to ==Overview== like you did here at Trans woman (and every other section header in the article). Same thing where you changed {{See also|...}} to {{see also|...}} These are not an improvement to the article, and altering the way spaces or capitalization are used in an article to your own preference when the previous version was already valid is a violation of MOS:VAR, so please don't do it. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 10:50, 3 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon

When adding links to material on external sites, as you did to Gamergate (harassment campaign), please ensure that the external site is not violating the creator's copyright. Linking to websites that display copyrighted works is acceptable as long as the website's operator has created or licensed the work. Knowingly directing others to a site that violates copyright may be considered contributory infringement. This is particularly relevant when linking to sites such as YouTube or Sci-Hub, where due care should be taken to avoid linking to material that violates its creator's copyright. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you believe the linked site is not violating copyright with respect to the material, then you should do one of the following:

  • If the linked site is the copyright holder, leave a message explaining the details on the article Talk page;
  • If a note on the linked site credibly claims permission to host the material, or a note on the copyright holder's site grants such permission, leave a note on the article Talk page with a link to where we can find that note;
  • If you are the copyright holder or the external site administrator, adjust the linked site to indicate permission as above and leave a note on the article Talk page;

If the material is available on a different site that satisfies one of the above conditions, link to that site instead. Sideswipe9th (talk) 22:13, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sideswipe9th See Talk:Gamergate (harassment campaign)#PDF of Jeong's The Internet of Garbage is not a WP:COPYVIO. — Toast for Teddy (talk) 22:36, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey. Sorry about this. Obviously feel free to ignore the warning. Curse you Google for not displaying the one link that would have prevented this! Sideswipe9th (talk) 22:56, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I tried to add an Open access icon Open access icon after the link via |url-access=free, but apparently that doesn't work. Maybe that would've helped avoid all this? — Toast for Teddy (talk) 23:05, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Mmm, not sure. We ordinarily only have the free or open access indicator on DOI or JSTOR IDs, because those IDs bring you through to the work. It's more typical for a URL to be locked behind a registration or subscription because we're linking to a source like the NYTimes than directly to an ebook. Linking to the Verge's "cover page" (for lack of a better term) where they released it as a PDF/ePub/mobi download might have worked, though you might have eventually got a {{verification failed}} if someone tried doing a quick search for the quotation on it because the bulk of the content on that page is an excerpt from chapter 3. The hidden note should help though. Sideswipe9th (talk) 23:11, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
