Edit counter update

Finished version 2.0 — see User:Flcelloguy/Tool. I'll write more when I have some more time (i.e. tomorrow...) Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:57, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Hmm... the semicolon got lost in translation; it was there when I first copied it to Wikipedia (check out the history...). Thanks for catching it! Did your .txt file have a "*" in front of every line? That may be the problem — when I copied and pasted the contributions, the bullet point got turned into an asteric; the StringTokenizer would have counted that. Without that, the Tokenizer would have been trying to collect data on the word before. Let me know how it works out. Thanks again! Flcelloguy (A note?) 02:33, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for all your help, and good luck on your exams! Flcelloguy (A note?) 02:42, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Our new friend dot

I asked our new friend  (talk · contribs)politely to change his username. Could you (if you do agree; I did have to go and find the special dot character; this of course is the inherent problem). Tell him to change his username (possibly with template:usernameblock. I don't want to give the impression I'm bullying him and taking unilateral action or for that matter respond to his reply which was a bit trollish. I'm just a lowly admin. Tell him it's nothing personal. — Dunc| 21:28, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Done. Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 21:56, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

The three articles that are nominees for translation of the week have already been translated, seem to be machine translated or very poorly translated. Should we re-translate the articles or try to clean up the grammar? — J3ff 22:44, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Hello, lad. I noticed you talking about this somewhere, so I'm assuming that you understand how it works. Would you be so kind as to enlighten me? It looks like it's a way to keep track of the edits of newcomers, but I can't tell who gets on the list and who doesn't, when you get off it, whether or not IPs are on it, along with some other things—and there doesn't seem to be a help page on it (maybe I'll create one?). *sigh* Anyway, any info would be appreciated. Thanks, and take it easy, Blackcap (talk) 01:23, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

O.K., well, thanks anyway. I'll go ahead and ask at the Pump when I've a minute. Take care, Blackcap (talk) 01:35, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

My failed RFA :)

Dear Titoxd,

I would like to thank you for supporting me on my RfA. Even though it failed with a with the final tally of 55/22/6, I want to thank you anyways. I don't want to be one a admin anymore until I reach 10,000 edits now that it's over with. Thanks --Jaranda wat's sup 03:35, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

User Subpages

Hey Tito, I was wondering if you could tell me how to create a user sub page? I'd like to use it to practice certain tasks before forging straight into them. Thanks. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 04:49, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks again Tito I was useing the subpage to practice the procedure of closing keep AfD's. Thanks it helped a bunch. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 05:18, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Take an other look lol. That has been addressed for the most part. :-D KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 05:28, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
LMAO I repeat just practice lol. Did you read the disclaimer. THIS IS JUST PRACTICE.... Let's just pretend that they are real user's and not sockpuppets. I've updated the reasons for D and K make more sense? I made an other one check back soon. At least it's funny right? KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 06:13, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
P.S. Good thing I practiced first I would have made some mistakes huh lol :-P KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 06:18, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Practice Tito :-D. I'm teaching myself here and you know the DP is rather confusing if you don't know what your doing. :-D how about some positve criticism lol. I know your getting at least a chuckle out of this. KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 06:26, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Go ahead and recheck please. Was that what you wanted with the redirect? KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 06:28, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Yes sir:Thanks again Tito I was useing the subpage to practice the procedure of closing keep AfD's. Thanks it helped a bunch. I have no delete powers :-D KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 06:33, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
LOL I made that last one just so you'd get a laugh to be honest with you. I think with a little practice and study of policy I could handle keep debates to start. That last one was just for kicks. lol.KnowledgeOfSelf | talk 06:35, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Tool help

Hey, thanks alot! I wasnt sure if I had done it yet, so, now I know. Thanks again for going out of your way to let me know Banes 06:52, 9 December 2005 (UTC)

Great work, Titoxd! I haven't taken a close look at the code (just like you, I'm still extremely busy right now) or run it yet, but great work in breaking up into classes and creating a Contribs class. From a brief glance, you're parsing from the "View source" of the person's contribs page. However, when I tried saving the page, it didn't let me save as a .txt, and instead had to save as a "HTML file". Can BufferedReader read from anything other than .txt? Hmm... excellent job on everything, especially on breaking up into methods and classes and saving everything (timestamp, etc)! This is a great start. There's many advantages into the using the source code for the page instead of copying & pasting — with copying and pasting, I was having some problem with changing the whole article text/namespace into one token (i.e. replace the appropriate spaces with underscores), but that's not a problem with the source code. I'll test it out soon, but again, great job, and many thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 01:10, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

A thank you from Ann

Hi, Titoxd. I just want to thank you for voting to support me in my RfA. I know I'm very late thanking you, but I've been a bit caught up with college work. I hope I'll live up to the expectations of those who voted for me. Please let me know if you ever have a problem with any admin action that I carry out. Thanks again. Cheers. A small request

Sir, I see you have reverted my edit of the Brian Larsen article. Please reconsider. I realize the revised version may not have been very neutral, but the subject matter really doesn't merit an article of such length. Mr. Larsen has often used false identities on the Internet to agree with himself and to brag about his "accomplishments", true or not.

At the very least, the supposed connections between him and Fleetwood Mac should be looked into, to prevent Fleetwood Mac fans from wondering.

Please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.246.82.175 (talkcontribs) 02:48, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

Since I'm not completely familiar with the subject (I just saw the blanking in recent changes), I marked it so someone has a look at it. It almost looks like a copyvio/vanity page to me. Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 02:47, 10 December 2005 (UTC)

WikiProject Numismatics

Dear WikiProject Numismatics member:

You may have noticed the edits made by user:mom2jandk, and you may have also noticed that I have reverted most of them. I would like to leave this note as an explanation.

mom2jandk is a new user and a clearly enthusiastic member of WikiProject:Numismatics. However, he/she has made several changes (specifically to the categorization scheme) that I reverted for various reasons. Among them, he/she:

  • Created several other categories that either do not fit or fit awkwardly into the categorization scheme.
  • Nominated several categories for deletion, including United States Mint, United States Mint engravers, and others.
    • On the deletion vote for Cat:United States Mint, he seems to be confused as to the purpose of the category; it is, as I said, for articles relating to the government agency known as the United States Mint. There are mints in the United States that are not part of the United States Mint (i.e. the Franklin Mint) and his confusion over this fact seems to be the impetus for the nomination.
    • You might also notice that he nominated cat:Directors of the United States Mint; his explanation is that he broadened the category to "United States Mint officers" so that a Superintendent could be included. The "superintendent of the Mint" to which he referred was Roswell K. Colcord, who was superintendent of the Carson City Mint; there is no such office as "superintendent" for the entire United States Mint (or, if there is, it is distinct from Director of the Mint.)

After reading this fairly lengthy message, you might get the impression that I am attacking either mom2jandk or his/her edits; this is not the case. I have a great deal of admiration for him/her as a new user who is not afraid to jump in and try to improve Wikipedia and the Numismatics project. I hope he/she continues to contribute, and I believe he/she has a great deal to offer. This message is quite long because I wanted to explain the specifics of the categories (many of which, incidentally, were created by me.)

Note that I placed merge tags on most of mom2jandk's categories.

It goes without saying that, if there are any categories that should be altered and/or deleted, by all means make such changes, regardless of whether I or anyone else created them; neither I nor my edits are perfect.

Apologies for using he/she; I assume mom2jandk's user name reflects her role as a mother but I wasn't completely certain.

Thank you all and I look forward to continued work with you in the future. Paul 06:04, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Hurricane Katrina death count

We reverted almost simultaneously, but you un-reverted yourself so it didn't show as an edit conflict. Why did you un-revert? --AySz88^-^ 04:01, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

http://robertlindsay.blogspot.com/2005/12/katrina-death-toll-inches-up-to-1383.html shows 1383...but that's a blog post, so I'm not certain about the reliability. However, he seems to cite lots of sources. --AySz88^-^ 04:05, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
The two sources seem to match: your example explicitly doesn't include 2 from Ohio, 1 from Kentucky, and 57 "evacuees" that are in the blog article. I guess I'll go update the article. --AySz88^-^ 04:26, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm in the middle of changing it, but what exactly is an "official state total"? If it needs to be a quote from a government official, I don't think I have a source. --AySz88^-^ 04:45, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Okay, at least one of them is a loop from Wikipedia itself. The Ohio number is cited as from [1] which got *their* table from Wikipedia (even the colors look the same). I guess I shouldn't use that number, at least, then.
Seeing as there was one USA today article that copied Wikipedia infoboxes, I'm concerned the rest of the numbers might be feedback from Wikipedia too. Also, the official counts don't seem to count indirect deaths, and there's no distinction in either article. I don't know if I want to touch the table. :p
I saved what I did, but reverted it to the original version until we can figure this out.... --AySz88^-^ 05:06, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Re: About several things

I'm going to take the liberty to respond to you in numbers. :-)
1. No, not yet; just like you, I'm also extremely busy at the moment. I'll probably get some free time (hopefully) over the weekend, if not sooner, to take a look at it. It sounds wonderful - I haven't done GUIs in a while and was thinking of relying on JOptionPane, but GUIs is probably a better idea. I'll look at it soon. In the meantime, Kate's Tool is back up, giving us some time. My vision of our tool is not just to be a backup to Kate's Tool, but to be also be a statistics tool that offers options Kate's Tool does not (yet) have (i.e. minor edits, edit summary, and I'm also thinking we could code average edits per day and other statistics; that won't be too hard because we're parsing the time and date already). Thanks a lot for all your great work; it's greatly appreciated!
2. OK, I'll have a look and respond there.
3. Check out the talk pages; I'll make an "announcement" with all the pertinent info there.

Thanks once again! Flcelloguy (A note?) 21:44, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Motion graphs and derivatives, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

How cool is this? Good work! That reminds me: that image that you have gracing our main page — if you were to add and to the shaded area, we could put those limits on the definite integrals instead and generalise it a little. :) -Splashtalk 21:14, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi, sorry. Got distracted. You mean because of editing a protected image? Hmmmm. Probably not, since admins edit the protected main page stuff all the time; there's sort of a convention that it's ok, I think. Great new pic! -Splashtalk 22:17, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Vandals who create user names

Hey Tito, if an anon 70.81.202.97 like this gets to a test 4 and then makes a user name to avoid that test 4 should he be blocked anyway? Pyrics is making the same vandalism edits as the anon IP. How in the world did you notice activity on that most-out-of-the way corner of the world? I use a somewhat clumsy translude/copy-paste/delete in order to get AfD results for analysis. I was wondering if you'd archive the Numismatics talk page when you get a chance. You mentioned before that it's easy, and I think the length is way out of hand (I know I have trouble finding stuff). YAYYY! Oh, and good luck with your Admin Gen election! I look foreward to working with you. I can only hope they impliment this soon (it shouldn't take too much coding, I imagine), so the sooner the better :). -Mysekurity(have you seen this?) 02:30, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
P.S. Happy Birthday!

Please do not use rollback to revert something that is not vandalism (in fact, the reversion to a redirect is close to vandalism, as no merging was done). --SPUI (talk) 02:45, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

So, if the merge is not done, how is redirecting anyway the solution? --SPUI (talk) 02:48, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Re: Sockpuppets?

This is too much of a coincidence... :) Titoxd(?!? - did you read this?) 02:18, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

I had the same thing happen with FreplySpang last week. This is getting spooky... :) Owen× 03:28, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

re: Bugzilla

As far as making it so it doesn't show your every email..I don't know. Kizzle and I used it months ago to try and get anon ip's from being able to edit pages like GWBush and were unsuccessful...but I like semi-protect a lot better anyway. I get a few emails a month as I only contributed a few comments there months ago and I haven't been back since. Maybe it has a preferences link?--MONGO 04:31, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Oh I see...no problem, post there in a minute...my understanding is that we are only waiting for the developers to implement it right? Also, to hide my email, I just filled out some lengthy log in thing, but can't remember how I did it. I am correct that this has passed and it is up to the developers, correct?--MONGO 04:38, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks...this is great news...I had dropped out of the conversation and saw that it appeared to have passed but wasn't positive all the details. I'll post a comment now.--MONGO 04:45, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

I had to dig up my old PW...any idea when this will be fully implemented by the developers?--MONGO 05:07, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I left a message on Bugzilla...hopefully we can implement this at GWBush and put a virtual end to the nonsense there.--MONGO 09:17, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Thank you!

Thanks for voting on my RfA! The final result was (36/1/2), so I'm now an administrator! COME MR. OPERATOR MAN, TALLY ME A VOICE NOW! DAYLIGHT COME AND ME WANT FIGHT VANDALS! ...yeah, that was pretty stupid. Mo0[talk] 06:22, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Happy Birthday!

Unless I'm much mistaken, I'm the first Birthday wellwisher. Have a great day Tito, and good luck in the elections - looks like we're heading for a tie... :) --Celestianpower háblame 17:41, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Looks like I was mistaken. Sorry! --Celestianpower háblame 17:41, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
Happy Birthday. FireFox 20:41, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

My RfA

Thanks for voting on my RfA! The final result was (36/1/1), so I'm now an administrator! See you on IRCShanel 20:40, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Mcfly85 (again)

I have a couple of questions on what happens now.

1) Should the IP addresses used by Mcfly85 that vandalized be counted as sockpuppets and be blocked?

2) Can I place vandal tags on the Mcfly85 sockpuppets user pages like the Willy on Wheels sockpuppets?

Sig

You think maybe it's time to change our sigs? Or do we still want to create awareness? Remember—NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER! We must push until this becomes a reality! (Oh, and word to getting on the 100 list) -Mysekurity(have you seen this?) 22:03, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

I want you to see the comment under the "comments" section I left at My RFA. It partially involves you. — Moe ε 22:34, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
