Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, Threelinestudio. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:
- avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
- instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
- when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 16:57, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Threelinestudio: You can edit any articles, no need to avoid anything, just be careful (no marketing copy, buzzwords and other stuff); one may need to propose changes if they're controversial or contentious. If you receive compensation for such contributions, please see: WP:Paid-contribution disclosure. What you will need to do however, is mosey over to WP:CHU/S and request a user name change, as those pertaining to companies or products are not permitted per username policy; some guidance can be found within this template: {{uw-coi-username}}. You've some time to request username change — about 10 days or so after this notification — before a block is likely. Please consider doing so to avoid that. If you need anything else just {{ping}} me here, or reach out on my talk page. Welcome to the bureaucracy... err... Wikipedia! -- dsprc [talk] 22:20, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing.
If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
at the bottom of your talk page, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. —SpacemanSpiff 16:34, 19 July 2016 (UTC)Threelinestudio (block log • active blocks • global blocks • autoblocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))

- Here are a few key questions:
- Do you understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a business directory?
- Do you understand conflict of interest?
- Do you understand that to be considered for an encyclopedia article, the subject must be notable?
You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the three important principles above. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:15, 23 July 2016 (UTC) I understand the three points which you raised. As I said before, I am new to Wikipedia and was unaware of any conflict of interest. All I was trying to do was update a website address that no longer exists with one that is current. That is all. I would like once again to apply for "Unblock" and be considered kindly under a new username.
