Little Inferno

[edit]

Hey there. Sorry I haven't helped very much on the Little Inferno article yet, though, to your credit, part of the reason I haven't is because a lot of it already looks pretty good as it is. I tend to specialize in getting articles from "unreadable mess" to "around B class", so, as far as doing what I typically do, you're doing great. (Though, if you aspire to bring it to GA class, it might be good to get another set of eyes, since I don't usually take it that far. Anyways, just thought I'd throw that out there. It's on my watchlist so I'll still help keep and eye and help if/when I can too. Sergecross73 msg me 19:44, 7 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No offence, but why did you revert my picture on the Mii page? If you didn't want a QR code picture or it violated a fair use rule, well, ok, but if not, why did you undo my post?Darrman1 (talk) 17:13, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Dispute resolution discussion

[edit]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard regarding a content dispute in which you may have been involved. Content disputes can hold up article development, therefore we are requesting your participation to help find a resolution. The thread is "Talk:Wasteland 2#Game_Camera_View".

Guide for participants

If you wish to open a DR/N filing, click the "Request dispute resolution" button below this guide or go to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/request for an easy to follow, step by step request form.

What this noticeboard is:
  • It is an early step to resolve content disputes after talk page discussions have stalled. If it's something we can't help you with, or is too complex to resolve here, our volunteers will point you in the right direction.
What this noticeboard is not:
  • It is not a place to deal with the behavior of other editors. We deal with disputes about article content, not disputes about user conduct.
  • It is not a place to discuss disputes that are already under discussion at other dispute resolution forums.
  • It is not a substitute for the talk pages: the dispute must have been discussed extensively on a talk page (not just through edit summaries) before resorting to DRN.
  • It is not a court with judges or arbitrators that issue binding decisions: we focus on resolving disputes through consensus, compromise, and explanation of policy.
Things to remember:
  • Discussions should be civil, calm, concise, neutral, and objective. Comment only about the article's content, not the other editors. Participants who go off-topic or become uncivil may be asked to leave the discussion.
  • Let the other editors know about the discussion by posting {{subst:drn-notice}} on their user talk page.
  • Sign and date your posts with four tildes "~~~~".
  • If you ever need any help, ask one of our volunteers, who will help you as best as they can. You may also wish to read through the FAQ page located here and on the DR/N talkpage.

Please take a moment to review the simple guide and join the discussion. Thank you! EarwigBot operator / talk 19:08, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know, I really shouldn't waste so much time on arguing with her - consensus almost always moves against her far before I stop arguing with her. I don't have any plans on arguing it any further unless something new develops. Sergecross73 msg me 03:21, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Farewell

[edit]

I am sending this message to the users who I have closely collaborated with. I will be taking a temporary Wikibreak for at least 5-7 days to let off some steam and get myself reenergized. Some of the stress has got to me, so I think it's best if I should take a couple of days off. I also have final exams coming up as well, so I have more important things to worry about. I, however, will be here to contribute to some articles that I have worked on. Until then, farewell. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Super Mario All-Stars, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Audio CD (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Not a forum

[edit]

You reverted my edit saying "Not a forum." The question I asked was about a sentence in the article itself. "Not a forum" means no general talk about the article's subject independent of the article. Georgia guy (talk) 17:06, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The sentence I was discussing was in the article, and I was merely asking about when the sentence was going to need to be updated. Thus, the question relates to the article itself. Georgia guy (talk) 17:41, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The sentence will need improvement when there's official info on the answer to the question. Georgia guy (talk) 18:03, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You mean, the talk pages are not only not forums for general opinions, but also not for premature thoughts on what the articles should say soon?? Georgia guy (talk) 18:28, 5 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am not saying this, because of who you are. Its just that only Admins and Moderators should jump into PMs. I appreciate the help, but I have had experiences with people who get quite irate over it. So, it might not be a good idea to do it with other people.

TheUnknownNinjaNN2(Talk,Always willing to discuss this subject) 04:17, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Uh, there's no Wikipedia policy that states that "only Admin should jump into conversations". Also, these aren't "PMs" - I assume that stands for "Private Message". These comments are all quite public, and people are free to jump in as they please. Why did you revert my talk to Soap.

[edit]

He was already helping me before. We talked about on the Irc page about a week ago. I don't mind you saying that it cant go on main pages, but did you even wait to see if Soaps reaction was? He was already helping, so its not an advert, and considering the fact that you did not label my post about jumping into conversations FORUM, that means that the only issue is a simple miscommunication.

TheUnknownNinjaNN2(Talk,Always willing to discuss this subject) 04:59, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter, it does not belong on Wikipedia as long as it is not related to building/improving a Wikipedia article. Thomas was right to remove it. As I said before, exchange email addresses or meet up at a messageboard or something. Sergecross73 msg me 11:49, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I see. So, it isn't spam (at least it looks that way), and I already pointed out that conversations like that aren't forum (cause I had one like that with Thomas above and he didn't remove it), so it must be soap. Now, I read soap and I really just don't get what they mean at all. Do you mind summarizing it?

Also, if I am wrong about soap (and right about the other two) then I suppose a bit of "subject prejudice*" is the cause, and while that may sound bad, I don't mind (as long as you tell me so I don't annoy you)

  • Subject Prejudice-calling a subject spam, trolling, etc. becuase you do not personally like the subject.

A week or so ago I moved some of the criticism down into the reception section and immediately started a discussion about it on the talk page. So far only one other user has joined the discussion. "Jake Gantt"

[edit]

Hey Thomas. So, looking at the Mario Kart 8 history, I noticed you made this edit. First, thanks for that. Secondly, can you let me know if you come across another variation of this "Jake Gantt" name? I forget his original name, but it was some sort of name with "Jake Gannt" in it; I warned him many times about adding hoax release dates and hoax game articles, and every time he refused to stop, leading me to indef block him. (Its typically the only thing he does.)

Anyways, he continue to make alt accounts that contain his name, and continue to do make up information in articles related to Mario, Nintendo, and some Blues Cluse/Winx Club nonsense. Since I know you at least contribute to those first two, let me know if you see him again, and I'll block him for block evasion/vandalism. Thanks! Wii Visual Editor Break

[edit]

Hey, yeah I know about the Wii page break. I was actually reverting it when I got an edit collision because you were doing it at the same time.

What happened was that I used the Visual Editor to add info about the Wii Mini US release date, and included a reference, which caused the bottom section of the page to die! Totally unexpected. Why did you revert my edit

[edit]

I added a link to an article about Xbox One to the Wikipedia page and it was dumped. Not a problem but would you mind referencing it then? It does apply to the subject matter. http://g4tv.ca/technews/JP/JP_20131106_xbox_one.shtml — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pow2112 (talkcontribs) 21:15, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As he mentioned in his edit summary, references are only used to back up information in the article. Its not the way to just randomly dump links into the articles. If it really needs to be in the article, it should probably be added as an external link, though I'm not entirely sure its necessary there either. There's a million Xbox One preview type articles out there. Not sure this one stands out as far as needing to be the one put in the article... Sergecross73 msg me 21:20, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to let you know that the Giygas isn't really an alien, but it's a ghost boss in Earthbound series and it has the traps from Midknight's stage in Eternal Champions: Challenge from the Dark Side. Sonic Adventure articles

[edit]

Hi, Sergecross has posted on my talk that we should work on Sonic-related articles since we have the time. Also, I don't know if you are aware of this, but I had to take a two-month semi-retirement from August to October due to being subjected to personal abuse by disruptive editors such as Fladrif (who has a history of disruptive behavior since 2008, but that has already been dealt with) and Bambifan101, as well as issues in real life. However, I decided that I will no longer let past issues get to me anymore for good.

Anyway, the articles I've been thinking about editing are Sonic Adventure 2 and the first three Sonic the Hedgehog games. Care to join forces? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 04:46, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am well aware of the circumstances surrounding your semi-retirement. As for the Sonic articles, sure. Mind you I have not played a single Sonic game, so I have little context on the subject. However, that should come as a great help in writing the articles for someone who is completely unfamiliar with Sonic. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 17:45, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow, I hadn't realized that. I had assumed you had, since we've worked on some in the past (like Sonic R), and just the general overlap between Nintendo fans (a big area of work for you) and Sonic fans. But anyways, yeah, that's great if you want to help, it'll be good to get the perspective from someone who doesn't play them. Sergecross73 msg me 17:50, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

True, glitches aren't important to gameplay, but they're still significant in the community, so they deserve some mention. I'm working on finding references for them. Supernerd11 :D Firemind ^_^ Pokedex 18:43, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) "Significant to the community" usually isn't the measure we go by at Wikipedia, that can be hard to measure. Generally, something like this would be included if reliable sources report on it. Like if IGN or GameSpot did an article on it. And if it was to be included, it would just be a small, short mention, as to not put too much emphasis on a small detail. Also keep in mind that Wikipedia is not a gameguide - we're not a "how to" guide. Sergecross73 msg me 19:26, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
By "significant to the community", I mean it's achieved enough fame to have a fairly large following, like the Weighted Companion Cube or Geddan, when it wasn't meant to. I didn't mean "put every glitch" like it seems like (gotta work on being more specific), but just the notable glitches, Easter eggs, etc that show up. Also, if you wanna follow it, this conversation is continuing in Talk:Pokémon Yellow. Supernerd11 :D Firemind ^_^ Pokedex 01:54, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm mostly feeling frustrated over the Marcus Lindblom and EarthBound articles and towards Czar at the moment. I really don't think the articles are GA quality (at least not yet) and I don't think he'll listen much to the concerns I have about them nor will he easily welcome any new edits/changes into them. I'm still annoyed over this revert so to prevent myself from doing/saying something stupid I'm taking a break. But thank you, I highly appreciate the concern. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 16:14, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm puzzled that Czar would attempt to create those articles after all his efforts to merge Tezero's spinoff articles. I'm trying to stay out of those discussions though, I'm already embroiled in a few policy-enforcing debates as it is... Sergecross73 msg me 17:08, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to chime in and say that I think that EarthBound fandom definitely warrants its own article, as it really is its own thing (kind of like a cult version of Star Trek fandom and Star Wars fandom. Honestly, I could reasonably see EarthBound fandom be a spark for other similar fandom articles being made. Team Fortress 2 has a ton of fan-made content and fandom (such as cosplaying), Pokemon definitely has enough content to make a fandom article, etc.

As for development and fan translation, that's more debatable, but I still feel that they justify themselves. The development article spans decades, and ideally, Mother 3 should focus on the GBA version - discussing the N64 version's development in the article to a significant extent could prove disruptive. The fan translation has a bit weaker a rationale to it, but it definitely received non-trivial coverage wherein the subject of the coverage was the translation as much, if not more, than the game being translated. - New Age Retro Hippie (talk) (contributions) 03:12, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

RE4 ain't survival horror! its an action shooter everyone knows that!

[edit]

Dude stop bloody reverting my edits! RE5&6 aren't classified as "Survival horror"so why should RE4 be classified as such? its the game which changed RE series from survival horror to Action..

@RockmanXXX: There is existing consensus that RE4 is classified as "Horror survival", and you are editing against consensus. As at least one other editor has already stated, you need to bring it up on the talk page and discuss with other editors instead of trying to force it into the article. It's how Wikipedia works. Even so, if "everyone knows that" then you should have no problem presenting reliable sources that back up that claim. Right now, it doesn't look like you have sources. "RE5 and RE6 aren't survivial horror so RE4 isn't either" is a conjecture and doesn't hold up. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 15:41, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly just very curious why you think that what I suggested is in Donkey Kong 2 is so impossible. Why are you so sure that it ended at the 102nd level when we never get an asterisk denoting end of the game and we never really find the treasure. This is honestly not meant to be a spam message I have looked for that 103rd level for 20 years. I remain convinced it is there so I honestly would like to know how and why you are so certain it isn't there. Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

[edit]

Apologies for my edit on this page. I didn't realise the games setting was made specific as I have not completed all the endings (and didn't realise the player was ever told). I had done some Google'ing before hand to see if it was based in the US, but nothing came up. Then after your edit I searched the specific location you gave to find you are correct. However this is a major spoiler point I was very dissapointed to find out not through playing. I relaise its partly my fault for prematurely editing but was wondering if maybe next time you could be a little less specific for the sake of spoilers when editing video game material? Maybe just say "it's spoiler related, but it does take place in the US" or just "this is spoiler related". I was also wondering if perhaps this raises a bigger point overall if something like this which is spoiler related should even be included in the category section in the first place and would like to hear your thoughts? I see you specifically edit video game material, could this be brought up in any specific area on Wikipedia related to video game editing? Thanks for your time and look forward to hearing from you. Helper201 (talk) 02:43, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Helper201: I am sorry that you were spoiled. I am operating on under the guideline WP:SPOILER. Basically it means that spoiler warnings in articles (and by extension, their edit histories) are unnecessary and it's up to the responsibility of the reader (and other editors) to avoid being spoiled. It also means that categories should not be excluded simply because it spoils something-- after all Wikipedia seeks to be comprehensive. I will not assume that other editors of the articles I work on are interested in avoiding spoilers, so I will not be modifying my edit summaries to be less "spoilery." As for your other question about discussing spoilers in general, you're welcome to bring it up at WP:VG, but I do believe that other editors will cite the same guideline. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 08:41, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Weigh in on Battletoads: The Official Battlebook

[edit]

Hi Thomas

We have a lengthy discussion going concerning whether a mention of the official guide to the Battletoads games can be inserted in the Battletoads (video game) article. As the book’s author, I shouldn’t be the one to do it. Most recently, I was asked for secondary references to the book, which I provided as links (in boldface) in the Talk discussion. I’ve asked one other editor for an opinion as to whether the references are sufficient, but haven’t heard back. Would you mind reading the relevant Battletoads Talk discussion (it’s at the end as “Some Proposed Changes”) and give your opinion? I’d really appreciate it. Hello Thomas! I'm conducting a feature for the video games newsletter similar to that of a survey. I'm going to ask users their opinions on a specific matter and highlight unique and common answers to determine consensus on a subject. Your input would be very valuable, alongside others, to help answer this question.

The question is: How do you determine what makes a video game character notable enough for their own page? Do you follow pre-existing guidelines or have your own opinions on the matter?

I saw your edits to the gameplay, thank you for that. While you're at it, I would greatly appreciate a copyedit/shortening of the plot section, because I have not played the game and I believe I might misinterpret something. I have development and reception covered. Panini🥪 16:20, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Panini!: Sure thing, I can do that. I can also go over the Gameplay section once or twice, review the references, and ensure that it's up to date. One suggestion I do have, is that we could potentially move the image in the Plot section to Gameplay, replacing the image that's there. Both images show the battle screen, but the Plot one has more "going on" and shows the audience feature. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 17:32, 1 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Super Mario Galaxy

[edit]

Your input would be of value on the talk page for Super Mario Galaxy, where I have raised a discussion regarding the inclusion of "U R MR GAY" with reliable sources. As you have made significant contributions to the article, your perspective seems relevant. Waxworker (talk) 16:49, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

"Super Mario USA(Japan)/Super Mario Bros.2(West)" listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has identified a potential problem with the redirect Super Mario USA(Japan)/Super Mario Bros.2(West) and has thus listed it for discussion. This discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 October 10#Super Mario USA(Japan)/Super Mario Bros.2(West) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. How was this edit of mine considered unconstructive. I wanted to just sort out the voice from the games before chronologically listing the others by date rather than language. Maxbmogs (talk) 19:22, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You claim "I wanted to just sort out the voice from the games" but put Marc Graue and Bob Sorenson under others. You've picked Bardakoff to be a sort of front-runner with Martinet, but Bardakoff has roles in the single digits and hasn't voiced Luigi in 20 years. My point is that your sorting is arbitrary and having separate lists for English and Japanese actors is more readable. It's the format that video game characters already use, and you haven't given a good reason why this sorting is better. --ThomasO1989 (talk) 20:24, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

IP blocked in the past?

[edit]

Is this one of the IP/users you've reported to me in the past? The completely irrelevant edit summaries at Nintendo related articles seems vaguely familiar... Sergecross73 msg me 18:12, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Without a doubt. I had suspected them to be a sock for a long time but the additional edits to Times Square Ball seals it. ThomasO1989 (talk) 18:29, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
